Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets/Live at the Roundhouse
Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets/Live at the Roundhouse ....2 CD + DVD $29.99
September release. "Live at the Roundhouse" is unlike any other concert film connected with Pink Floyd. It's the nearest thing you can get to a time machine, transporting you back to the very earliest days of the band. Nick Mason, the only band member to have played on all of Pink Floyd's studio albums, returns to the group's earliest records, joined in the line-up by Gary Kemp, Guy Pratt, Lee Harris and Dom Beken. Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets took the drummer back to clubs for the first time in 1967, then to theatres, across the UK, North America and Europe, playing only music his old band had recorded before The Dark Side of the Moon. Captured from the band's celebrated shows at London's Roundhouse, where Pink Floyd played some of their most revered early shows in the 1960s, the film features a uniquely thrilling setlist including songs hailing from Syd Barrett's time with the band. Only four songs from this eclectic roster have ever previously appeared on official live releases by Pink Floyd or its members. Everything else is being experienced for the first time since their original live performances.

King Crimson/The Elements Tour Box 2020 ....2 CD Box Set $24.99
This 2-CD history of King Crimson features many extracts and tracks appearing on CD for the first time, including many of the current line-up. Packaged in a digi-pack style book case with 24-page booklet, this set contains introductory notes by Robert Fripp & sleeve notes by Sid Smith. While this 7th release in the Tour Box series is in spirit with the earlier releases, this is also a very different tour box to its companions, and one which, as it has to stand along and represent a tour that should have been (and will occur in 2021), it also stands slightly apart. What themes and stories should a tour box created for a postponed tour tell? As with previous tour boxes, the 2020 Elements box covers the full spectrum of Crimsoning, this one with music and line-ups from 1969-2019. Disc one represents a mostly live/mostly new-to-CD selection of material including 4 tracks taken from the 2019 tour. Disc two, in keeping with the theme of Sid's notes, discussed below, presents pieces played occasionally by the current line-up - Exiles and Sheltering Sky, pieces from the studio - both King Crimson and Robert Fripp that were never completed, or were developed in different ways, material that never made it to a studio recording - The Errors, Dr. Diamond, Trees (extract), Guts on my Side, etc, all combine to present a convincing musical counter-history to the band. The main sleeve notes by KC historian Sid Smith present a series of highly plausible "what if?" scenarios. Starting from 1969 his 2000 word essay traces a counterfactual history of the band had various tours not been canceled or postponed, had various members not quit or joined, following the routes and pathways a band called King Crimson could have followed had things turned out slightly different along the way.

Brian Eno & John Cale/Wrong Way Up [30th Anniversary
Edition] ....CD $16.99
Brian Eno & John Cale/Wrong Way Up [30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition] ....CD $19.99
30th anniversary reissue of the historic coming together of two icons of leftfield music. Having both started their careers as creative forces in seminal bands (Eno's unique synthesizer treatments in Roxy Music and Cale's viola and bass contributions to the Velvet Underground), they've appeared as guest musicians on each other's records as far back as 1974, the year in which they also made a historic live album with Nico and Kevin Ayers at the Rainbow Theatre in London. They remained friends, and the year prior to Wrong Way Up, Eno produced Cale's Words for the Dying album. This paved the way for the pair to write and record an album together, notably the first time Eno had delivered a collection of song-based recordings since Before and After Science in 1977. The resulting album is a triumph for both artists, containing the singles 'Spinning Away' and 'Been there Done That.' Both CD versions include two bonus tracks and booklet containing a 1990 interview with Eno about the making of the album. Deluxe edition is a limited edition run in a casebound package.
Brian Eno & Jah Wobble/Spinner [25th Anniversary Edition]
Brian Eno & Jah Wobble/Spinner [25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition] ....CD $19.99
25th anniversary reissue of this unique coming together of Brian Eno and ex-Public Image Limited bass player Jah Wobble, also featuring Jaki Liebezeit from Can on drums. Starting life as the soundtrack to Derek Jarman's Glitterbug, Eno passed stereo mixes of the film cues to Wobble who embellished and built upon them to construct the Spinner tracks. The resulting fusion combines icy ambience with a kind of psychogeographical funk. Contains two bonus tracks plus booklet with sleeve notes from both artists. The Deluxe Edition includes a limited casebound package, two bonus tracks and booklet containing a 1990 interview with Eno about the making of the album.
Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe/Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe ....import CD $14.99
Politics aside, this album is basically Yes, but without Chris Squire. The music is incredibly complex and the lyrics as spacey as any Yes album ever. Tony Levin fills in on bass, playing his Chapman Stick and electric upright bass with Bill Bruford on full electronic-drums and sounding very much King Crimson-esque. Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman, both melodic as ever with Jon Anderson in a fine voice here and obviously having the most fun of all. Highlights; "Fist of Fire," a steady rock groove with exceptional keyboard work from Rick Wakeman, "Brother of Mine," a very catchy ten minute tune in three parts, the Carribean/Latin flavored "Teakbois," and the stadium-rocker "Order of the Universe." The magic of '70s prog-rock complete with a Roger Dean cover!

It was recorded in December 2019 in London on a short and highly anticipated tour, directly after the release of their studio album "Third Degree." Teaming the talents of such heavyweights as guitarist Steve Morse (Deep Purple, Dixie Dregs), drummer Mike Portnoy (Transatlantic, Winery Dogs, ex-Dream Theater), keyboardist/singer Neal Morse (solo artist, Transatlantic, ex-Spock's Beard), bass wizard Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai), with new pop singer/songwriter Casey McPherson, the band quickly established itself as one of rock's most melodic enigmas.

In terms of playing and performance, there should be no doubt that Steve Hackett is an incredible guitarist, both on stage and off. The combination of Hackett's solo and Genesis material works wonderfully. He is backed by an extremely talented group, many of whom have honed their skills with Hackett for a few years. Drummer Gary O'Toole handles the vocals on the Genesis tracks "Blood on the Rooftops," "Firth of Fifth" and "Broadway Melody" and keyboardist Roger King continues his role as Steve Hackett's right hand man. Trapeze/Trapeze [Deluxe Edition] ....import 2 CD Set $22.99
Trapeze would record three albums for Threshold. Produced by The Moody Blues' John Lodge at Morgan Studios and Decca Studios in London, their debut LP was released in May 1970, featuring the single 'Send Me No More Letters,' plus 'Suicide,' 'Nancy Gray' and 'Another Day.' Their debut veers closer to the late '60s psychedelic rock and progressive pop of their Moody Blues mentors than the the blues and soul infused hard rock that Trapeze are better known for. This newly remastered, expanded version of their debut now features both the UK and US single versions of their hit single, 'Send Me No More Letters.' Four unreleased demos follow, including an early version of 'Seafull' that would appear on the following "Medusa" LP. Also previously unreleased are three BBC Session tracks, of 'Another Day,' and two different sessions for 'Send No More Letters.' This expanded collection finishes with three unreleased live tracks from July 1969 recorded at Wolverhampton's LaFayette Club for the "Colour Me Pop" show. In a short set of covers made up of Steppenwolf's 'Magic Carpet Ride,' Fairport Convention's 'Meet on the Ledge' (written by Richard Thompson) and finishing with The Nazz's classic nugget, 'Open My Eyes' (written by Todd Rundgren), these live session tracks give a unique insight into Trapeze's career prior to becoming Threshold recording artists. As well as plenty of rare memorabilia and artwork, including many international single covers, the artwork is augmented by an extended essay from esteemed music journalist Malcolm Dome based on interviews with Glenn Hughes & John Jones.
Trapeze/Medusa [Deluxe Edition] ....import 3 CD Set $29.99
This classic has been expanded with two bonus discs, packed with extras. It kicks off with a stereo edit and then a mono edit of the 'Black Cloud' single, followed by radio session versions of 'Makes You Wanna Cry' and 'Medusa.' Disc Two finishes with an unreleased live show from the United States in March 1971, where the band had a growing following, thanks in part to the opportunity to tour America with mentors, The Moody Blues. Formed from two bands from the midlands - Finders Keepers, featuring Mel Galley (guitar/vocals), Dave Holland (drums) and Glenn Hughes (bass/vocals), plus the Montanas' John Jones (vocals/trumpet) and Terry Rowley (keyboards/guitar/flute) - Trapeze were discovered by The Moody Blues, and snapped up for their own label, Threshold Records. Trapeze would record three albums for Threshold. As per their self-titled debut, "Medusa" was produced by The Moody Blues' John Lodge at Morgan Studios in London, and released in November 1970, a mere six months after their first LP. For their second record, Trapeze had scaled down to the power trio of Mel Galley, Dave Holland and Glenn Hughes, finally finding their definitive sound, with a mixture of blues, soul and hard rock, wrapped around seven, classic original songs. Kicking off with the Mel Galley / Tom Galley penned 'Black Cloud,' the track was also issued as a single, and soon became a live favourite too. Mel Galley and his brother Tom Galley would co-write four of the album's tracks, with the band sharing writing credits on 'Your Love Is Alright' and Glenn Hughes bringing 'Seafull' and the title track, 'Medusa.' Disc Three features a second complete unreleased show from 1971, featuring all but two tracks from the "Medusa" LP. As well as a reproduction of a rare, original concert poster from the band's archives, not seen in almost 50 years, the set includes liner notes based on interviews with Glenn Hughes, John Jones, Trapeze's original manager Tony Perry, Trapeze's photographer David Rohl and Mel Galley's brother and Trapeze co-writer, Tom Galley.
Trapeze/You Are the Music: We're Just the Band [Deluxe Edition] ....import 3 CD Set $29.99
This 3CD deluxe edition has been expanded with the mono version of the 'Coast to Coast' single, plus the non-album tracks 'Good Love' and 'Dat's It.' Four tracks were aired for the 1973 Radio 1 In Concert series, taken from an "off-air" recording. One of Trapeze's major strongholds was Texas, so it's no surprise that this collection is completed with a track recorded in Dallas in 1972, plus a whole show from Houston the same year. Recorded at Decca Studios and Island Studios in London, their third album was produced by Neil Slaven, with it's release preceded by the 'Coast to Coast' single. The album includes a number of notable guests, including B. J. Cole on steel guitar for 'Keepin' Time' and 'Coast to Coast,' plus Rod Argent on electric piano for 'Coast to Coast' and piano on 'Feelin' So Much Better Now.' Glenn Hughes would leave Trapeze to join Deep Purple in 1973, leaving Mel Galley and Dave Holland to soldier on for the remainder of the 1970s, periodically reforming this classic three-piece line-up. As well as a reproducing rare and original memorabilia from the band's archives, the collection includes extensive liner notes by Malcolm Dome based on interviews with Glenn Hughes, manager Tony Perry, producer Neil Slaven, Tom Galley and Rod Argent.

Scope/Scope ....import CD $18.99
Scope/Scope II ....import CD $18.99
The predecessor band of Scope was called Strange Power and was founded around 1969 in Zwolle, Holland. Rik Elings, Henk Zomer (drums) and bassist Erik Raayman had founded the fusion project and had already released a 7" single that was added to the first Scope CD as a bonus. With the entry of guitarist Rens Nieuwland in 1972, Strange Power became Scope. Subsequently, the Dutch jazz rock foursome made a name for itself in both Holland and Germany. A talent scout from WEA / Atlantic became aware of the band and hired them for his label. In 1973 the band entered the Hamburg studio Maschen to record their debut album "Scope" under the direction of Jochen Petersen. The result was an exciting, varied fusion / jazz rock album, which contained a lot of improvisations and perfectly reflected the craftsmanship of the four musicians. The press was thrilled and Scope went back on the streets to present the new album live. In 1974 Erik Raayman left the band, but the band continued with a surprising plan. Multi-instrumentalist Rik Elings left his place behind the keyboards with Rob Franken and took over the four-string. A wise decision, because Rob Franken was one of the best and most famous jazz pianists in Holland. With this line-up, they returned to Studio Maschen in September 1974 to record the follow-up album "Scope II" for WEA. Like the debut, the album is a unique funk / fusion delicacy record, and Scope has become a real insider tip of the international jazz rock scene. Despite (or because of) the major deal, large record sales did not happen. After numerous changes in the line-up it came to an end in 1976. The further history of the involved musicians can be wonderfully read in the booklets for "Scope" and "Scope II."

Mastered from the original master tapes and strictly limited to 2,500 numbered copies: Mobile Fidelity Hybrid SACD brings beautiful vocals and brilliant melodies into clear view. Harry Nilsson was many things in life - revered songwriter, razor-sharp wit, gifted singer, studio pioneer, daring poet, cult icon, creative maverick, fearless interpreter, larger-than-life inspiration, man of mystery and intrigue. All these hallmark facets come together in a resplendent symphony on Nilsson Schmilsson, a go-to standout in the beloved artist's vaunted canon and most commercially successful release. For the first time in decades, it features audiophile sonics that bring the record's brilliant melodicism, sophisticated soulfulness, subtle shading, and sure-handed production into full view. The Brooklyn native's three-and-a-half octave range and beautiful phrasing come across with captivating depth, crystalline purity, and an emotional scope that stretches from tenderness to melodrama to sarcasm and beyond. Appealing as Nilsson's bizarre quirks remain, given how they stamp his music with personality and charm, his tremendous singing - of which Bud Scoppa memorably wrote possessed 'a slight sawtooth buzz to add resonance when required' - takes center stage. Ditto the eclectic arrangements that lend an organic cohesiveness the four-time Grammy-nominated record, named by Pitchfork as one of the Top 100 Albums of the 1970s. Produced by Richard Perry, known for his work with Barbra Streisand, Nilsson Schmilsson walks a tightrope between streamlined accessibility and mischievous, whimsical individualism. Providing a prime example of it's architect's breadth, a surfeit of exceptionally played organs, mellotrons, horns, strings, guitars, piano, and more paint daring soundscapes that on this reissue teem with color, texture, and detail. Reference-level spatiality and separation contribute to full, three-dimensional imaging and the ability to identify distinctive instruments (and their tones) in the mix.

Donovan/Donovan Rising ....CD $15.99
Rising is the third live album, and twentieth album overall, from British singer-songwriter Donovan released on Permanent Records in 1990. The live versions of Donovan's hits guaranteed that Rising would receive a release in both the United States and United Kingdom. Rising was retitled The Classics Live in the United States, 25 Years in Concert in Europe and Atlantis in the UK for marketing reasons. Since the release of Rising, there have been many reissues of the songs from the album under many different titles. Rising was supposedly recorded sporadically from 1982 through 1986 at various live concerts during different world tours. However, after careful research the songs on the album came from are revealed as a U.S. tour in 1971 and from the Cambridge Folk Festival of 1981. The setlists from these shows features a mixture of Donovan's international hits from the 1960s and relatively more obscure tracks from his later albums. Like most of Donovan's live performances, there is sparse instrumentation accompanying Donovan's vocals, including flute, acoustic guitar, bass. Rising features two traditional songs ("Young But Growing" and "Stealing") and one original song ("Love Will Find a Way") that were not released on any previous Donovan album.

Pineapple Thief/Versions of the Truth [Deluxe Limited Edition] ....import 2 CD + DVD + Blu-Ray $61.99
This deluxe edition of 'Versions of the Truth' is presented in a hardback book with 4 discs - the original album on CD plus a second CD of bonus music, and is topped off with a DVD and Blu-ray (all region) featuring the album and bonus material in a 24/96 DTS-HD MA 5.1 surround sound mix and 24/96 hi-res stereo audio plus the music video for 'Demons.' Also includes a 48-page book featuring lyrics, photos from the writing of the album & recent touring, drum notations from Gavin Harrison and handwritten lyrics. Over the last half-decade, The Pineapple Thief - led by musical polymath Bruce Soord and bolstered by the involvement of master drummer Gavin Harrison - has rapidly ascended to the upper echelons of Europe's alternative rock scene.'Versions of the Truth' - out in September through Kscope - is the latest instalment in the band's deserved (and welcome) rise to success. 'Versions of the Truth' represents a conceptual progression from 'Dissolution' (a contemplation on our 'post truth' world) and lyrically tackles similar themes, but from a more personal perspective. Reflecting on how there can be more than one 'version of the truth,' the album's songs revolve around the impact the media can have on our lives and the people we love. Recording began at Bourne Place (London) and Soord Studios (Yeovil) after the band had completed it's 2019 US tour with engineering handled by Bruce Soord and Gavin Harrison. The album has been mastered by Steve Kitch.
Ray Russell/Fluid Architecture ....CD $16.99
Ray Russell: guitars and featuring Eric Baldwin: found sounds, sequential creativity, George Baldwin: bass, Chapman Stick, Chris Biscoe: tenor clarinet & soprano saxophone, Mo Foster: bass, Nic France: drums, Simon Phillips: drums, Ralph Salmins: drums, Jim Watson: keyboards. As part of an exploratory group of British 'jazz and beyond' musicians in the late 1960's, Ray Russell released a number of acclaimed and ultimately influential experimental albums; Dragon Hill, Rites & Rituals, Live at the I.C.A. and Secret Asylum. Based on the dates of these releases, he can claim to be, along with Sonny Sharrock, one of the earliest 'free' guitarists and his early work has been cited by today's noted experimentalists like Thurston Moore and Jim O'Rourke. Since then, Russell has enjoyed a freelance career composing award-winning TV soundtracks and working with artists ranging from Phil Collins to Gil Evans to Tina Turner to Andrew Lloyd Webber, but he remains a dedicated sonic explorer as well. "His lines are not so much melodic variation, or even Coltrane-like walls of sound. Instead it is like a Pollock painting mounted with guitar pickups, the sound of explosions. Russell makes it sound as if the guitar is not enough... " - Jim O'Rourke. ".. guitarists in particular should analyze carefully... excellent fretwork in the middle of a triangle whose corners are occupied by Jeff Beck, Phil Miller and Yo' Miles!" - Touching Extremes.".. the album is essentially an explosive, spellbinding, and well-rounded musical event, where many of the hard-edged works encompass eloquent plot developments and tuneful theme-building maneuvers." - All About Jazz
I.P.A./Bashing Mushrooms ....CD $16.99
From Cuneiform Records, I.P.A. is Atle Nymo tenor saxophone, Magnus Broo trumpet, Mattias Ståhl vibraphone, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten bass, Håkon Mjåset Johansen drums. After a dozen years as one of Europe's most acclaimed jazz ensembles, I.P.A. is still discovering mesmerizing new sonic territory. Originally born out of a deep dive into the music of pioneering trumpeter/composer Don Cherry, the group has firmly established it's own sound and identity, and Bashing Mushrooms reveals a striking new side of the quintet. A sumptuous aural feast marked by extended, circuitous melodies and spacious, finely etched textures, it is the group's fifth album. While the title might suggest psychedelic journeys, Bashing Mushrooms is a work of riveting clarity, with all of the thoughtful interaction and knife-edge balance between improvisation and composition that has long distinguished the group."... the album is essentially an explosive, spellbinding, and well-rounded musical event, where many of the hard-edged works encompass eloquent plot developments and tuneful theme-building maneuvers." - All About Jazz
Lee Abraham/Harmony - Synchronicity ....import CD $20.99
Galahad guitarist and solo artist Lee Abraham will release his latest solo album, entitled "Harmony/Synchronicity," September 2020 through F2 / Festival Music. Lee is joined as ever by musical partner Gerald Mulligan (Credo) on drums and a host of familiar vocalists. Lee handles all guitars, keys, pianos and bass guitars and all production duties. Artwork design has been undertaken by Robin Armstrong (Cosmograf).
Miles Davis/The Complete Concert 1964 ....import 2 CD Set $20.99
This recording is one of the best jazz recordings of all time and also some of Miles's best trumpet work. He exhibits great tone, range, technique and improvisation. Miles is so intense on this whole recording, nailing passage after passage. As Miles mentioned in his book, they completely tore the roof off of the place. A great supporting group as well, George Coleman on tenor saxophone, Herbie Hancock on piano, Ron Carter on bass and Tony Williams on drums. The interplay between Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and the uncanny Tony Williams is just breath-taking and hints very clearly at the new directions in which they and Miles would take the small jazz ensemble for the next several years.
Herbie Hancock/Head Hunters [Quadraphonic SACD/ Multi-Channel] ....Japanese import SACD $49.99

Freddie Hubbard/Red Clay ....CD $14.99
This is the sequential classic of Freddie Hubbard's catalog. Bandmates on this musical journey are Herbie Hancock on Fender Rhodes, Ron Carter on electric & acoustic bass, Lenny White on drums & Joe Henderson on tenor sax & alto flute. 'Red Clay' is accessible, grooving and one of the first fusions of R&B & funk with post-bop. "Red Clay" sprung from his memories of his childhood in Indianapolis, noting that many of the neighborhood's residents had come from the deep South, and he wanted the tune to evoke images of that southern red clay. This album definitely falls into line with the other great fusion of that period; Miles Davis's 'Bitches Brew.'
Chick Corea/Plays ....2 CD Set $19.99
The latest addition to Chick Corea's remarkable discography, Plays is a captivating, intimate double album. Showcasing his charming rapport with enthusiastic audiences in these spirited renditions, he's in good company throughout, engaging with a list of icons that represent a wide swath of musical history, from the classical repertoire of Mozart and Chopin to jazz influences like Bill Evans and modern pop sensibility of Stevie Wonder. Several pieces are reprisals or spontaneously improvised.

Soundwalk Collective with Patti Smith/Peradam ....CD $14.99
2020 release. The sounds of Himalayan winds, sacred mantras and water rippling in the holy river Ganges, invite us to Peradam, the transcendent album by Soundwalk Collective with Patti Smith. After albums devoted to Antonin Artaud (The Peyote Dance) and Arthur Rimbaud (Mummer Love), Peradam takes as its entry point Rene Daumal's early 1940s novel Mount Analogue: a Novel of Symbolically Authentic Non-Euclidean Adventures in Mountain Climbing, in which the French writer, critic and poet mapped a metaphysical journey to "the ultimate symbolic mountain" in search of meaning. In it, Daumal introduced the idea of the "peradam," a rare, crystalline stone harboring profound truths that is only visible to seekers on a true spiritual path. Featuring guests including Anoushka Shankar, Tenzin Choegal and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Peradam is the "the final stone" in The Perfect Vision triptych. Collectively they evoke and explore the sainted spaces of thought and creativity opened by the three French writers and poets.
Simon Collins/Becoming Human ....CD $14.99
Simon Collins (son of Phil) returns with his fourth solo album, "Becoming Human," an album where he takes the musical inspiration of his previous band Sound of Contact and creates a strong and exciting mixture of rock, pop, prog, electronica, and dare we say, a hint of industrial. Simon has managed to master the sound of prog that the fans love so much, but keep it original sounding as well.
The Progressive Souls Collective/Sonic Birth ....CD $15.99
The debut album "Sonic Birth" by The Progressive Souls Collective (TPSC) is special in many ways: Florian Zepf (guitar) and the driving force at TPSC could convince his international prog music colleagues Aquiles Priester (ex-Angra & Tony MacAlpine), Conner Green (Haken), Kevin Moore (ex-Dream Theater, O.S.I., Chroma Key) as well as Luis Conte (Phil Collins) to work together on the album. As a very special guest, keyboard maestro Derek Sherinian (Sons of Apollo, Ex-Dream Theater, etc.) contributed all keyboard parts. The collaboration of the different characters resulted in "Sonic Birth," an extraordinary prog-metal album, which meets even the highest demands.
Thor & Friends/3 ....CD $14.99
Polymath percussionist Thor Harris inaugurated Thor & Friends in the autumn of 2015 after five years of touring as the percussionist of iconic avant-rock ensemble Swans. The project is intended as a vehicle for experimentation with the conceptual vocabulary of American minimalism collaborating with a rotating cast of Austin-based musicians. The ensemble has three core members, Thor Harris, Peggy Ghorbani and Sarah "Goat" Gautier - with it's line-up expanding and contracting with the flux of compositional and improvisational contexts. Thor & Friends draws on classic Minimalist composers, including Terry Riley and Steve Reich, but also amalgamate such diverse influences as Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, Moondog and The Necks around a polyrhythmic core of mallet-struck instruments, primarily marimba, xylophone and vibraphone. Circling these core motifs are shifting streams of everything from processed pedal steel and analog synthesizer to violin, viola, stand-up bass, clarinet, duduk and oboe. Thor & Friends, '3' is the band's third LP. Initially put out as part of Joyful Noise Recordings, 2019 Artist in Residence, it is now being released far and wide through Joyful Noise. Thor writes, "This record was made over several years and in many locations. Only by the grace of the brilliant Jeremy Barnes was it all sewn together into this fantastic tapestry of sound you are lucky to now behold." Musicians who played on this record include, Jennifer Wasner, Tuvan throat singing is Soriah, Jeremy Barnes and Heather Trost of A Hawk and a Hacksaw, John Dieterich from Deerhoof, Thierry Amar and Tim Herzog from Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Adam Torres, Michael Gira, Jarboe, Stine Janvin Motland, John Congleton and many others.
Thor & Friends/4 ....CD $14.99
Thor & Friends, '4' is the band's fourth LP. Initially put out as part of Joyful Noise Recordings, 2019 Artist in Residence, it is now being released far and wide through Joyful Noise. Thor writes, "Thor & Friends is a collective of musicians. Some players are classically trained, others are punk musicians with no reading skills, just spirit and will. Through friendship and musical collaboration, this album brings together Craig Ross, Alan and Mimi from Low, Bill Callahan, and Jolie Holland; strings from the likes of Mollie Fischer, Travis Weller, Lindsey Verrill, Andrea Calderon, and Nino Soberin; and even more instrumentation from Jeff Johnston on saw, Christopher Cundy, Andrea Belfi, and Adam Harding."
Rick Wakeman/Red Planet ....import CD $17.99
2020 release. Rick Wakeman, best known as keyboard player in progressive rock band Yes, releases The Red Planet - a serious return to "Wakeman Prog." Harking back to Wakeman's critically acclaimed 1973 debut The Six Wives of Henry VIII, The Red Planet features eight newly composed pieces based around a central subject matter. Rick's blown the dust off his favorite analog keyboards and along with his latest keys has used the same formula he devised when making his debut album and the equally legendary Criminal Record. Upon being asked about the expectations of his prog fans, that they are hoping he will have shoved the "Prog Fader" up to 11, he replied, "That could be a problem... as it's already at 14!!!"

Jon Anderson/1000 Hands [Chapter One] ....CD $15.99
1000 Hands: Chapter One is the fifteenth studio album by English singer-songwriter and musician Jon Anderson. The album originates from sessions for a project to have been called Uzlot (a northern English pronunciation of "us lot") that Anderson had been recording in Big Bear, California, with Brian Chatton in around 1990. Chatton wrote most of the music, played keyboards and also sang. Anderson asked his then Yes bandmates Chris Squire and Alan White to play on the project too. At the time, Yes were preparing for a tour and Anderson put the master tapes in his garage and, as he has recounted, gave them very little thought for many years. In 2016, producer Michael Franklin contacted Anderson about using the tapes and finishing an album. Further recordings followed at Solar Studios in Orlando, Florida. Along with some newly written material, the final result is 1000 Hands. As the album title suggests, the album was created with a number of guest performers, including Steve Howe, Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain, Vanilla Fudge drummer Carmine Appice, Rick Derringer, the Tower of Power horn section, violinists Jean-Luc Ponty, Jerry Goodman and Robby Steinhardt of Kansas, Chick Corea, Larry Coryell, Stuart Hamm, Billy Cobham and many more!
Steve Howe/Love Is ....CD $14.99
To any rock music fan of the last 50 years, Steve Howe needs no introduction. Best known as the guitarist for progressive rock band Yes, he has enjoyed a prolific recording and performing career spanning five decades. In addition to his solo work, Steve has released more than 50 albums with bands such as Yes and Asia and guest appeared with the likes of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Lou Reed and Queen. Love Is is Howe's 17th solo record, comprising ten songs: five with current Yes singer, Jon Davison, singing harmonies and playing bass guitar and five instrumental tracks rotating through the running order. The instrumentals keep a highly progressive rock guitar style to the fore, with songs that explore stories of lives lived and lives only just beginning. 'Love Is a River' is the central track, with several textural shifts, featuring a theme played on 12 string and steel guitars. Steve's son, Dylan, features on drums. Many years in the making, Love Is offers a consistently strong and polished listening experience, forging the very best from the writing and playing throughout.

Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Steve Morse and Don Airey continue to extend the scope of hard rock on Whoosh!, which sees Deep Purple joining forces with legendary producer Bob Ezrin for the third time. "Deep Purple is putting the Deep back into Purple," was the half-joking motto in the studio after the first songs made it clear that Ezrin and Purple were on their way to creating an album pushing the boundaries of time, while voicing their resentment about the current state of the world.
Kraftwerk/Soest Live ....import CD $18.99
One of the most influential bands in the last five decades, Kraftwerk virtually established the blueprint, the source code even, for electronic music. Founded by classically trained musicians Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider-Esleban in Dusseldorf in 1970, the band has informed and inspired a diverse range of genres and artists including David Bowie, Bjork, Afrika Bambaataa, and Joy Division. This early live performance, in Soest, Germany in Winter 1970, broadcast on WDR-TV displays the band in superb form. Arguably, the future of electronic music, trance, techno, ambient - started right here.
Japan/From the Budokan Tokyo FM 1982 ....import double CD $18.99
Two CDs. Japan was an English new wave band formed in London in 1974 by David Sylvian (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Steve Jansen (drums), Richard Barbieri (keyboards) and Mick Karn (bass guitar). They started out as a glam rock-inspired band but developed their sound to incorporate electronic music and art rock influences, eventually becoming an influence on the 1980s New Romantic scene in the UK, although the band themselves were not a part of it. This set was recorded at The Budokan, Tokyo in December 1982 and was their fifth from last show on that tour. The band had become friends with Yellow Magic Orchestra who joined them on some of the performances here - "Bamboo Music" is a duet featuring Akiko Yano, and "Taking Islands in Africa" features Yukihiro Takahashi. Ryuichi Sakamoto also plays on those tracks.

Charles Hayward/Crossfade Estate ....CD $19.99
Crossfade Estate was a special, distinct project. It was made in November 2005. Recorded in 10 hours. Edited, mixed and collaged over 18 months. It was a development of Charles Hayward's long term relationship with The Albany in Deptford, London. They asked him to push their recently installed digital recording suite and see what he could make. The approach was a step further from the series Accidents+Emergencies which Hayward had curated in the late 1990's. It was a pulling together of different musics and strategies and the resultant material. Hayward thought of it like a soap opera, with characters reappearing in different combinations and in different scenarios, the market square, the living room, the mechanics' garage. But instead of people, themes and riffs and rhythms so that the music was constantly at the crossroads, at intersection points of its own devising. Charles Hayward, Ashleigh Marsh, Nick Doyne-Ditmas, Sean O'Hagan, Rob Mills, Orphy Robinson, Chris Cornetto, Sharon Gal, Simon King are playing on the album. Previously unreleased and now made available for the very first time!

Anekdoten/A Time of Day ....import CD $14.99
A Time of Day is the 2017 fifth album from the Swedish progressive rock band Anekdoten. Recorded at Rommaro studio in the Swedish archipelago in the November 2006, the band was aiming for more complex and richer song writing than before. Most of the songs were demoed and arranged well before the recording session which used vintage organs and synths to expand the sounds. The late Gunnar Bergsten, famous for playing on Bo Hansson's 'Lord of the Rings' album, played flute on '30 Pieces,' musically considered one the highlights in Anekdoten's career. The band had to mix the album in a studio they were not used to and were never happy with the overall sound. Main man Nicklas Barker says, "We have re-mastered it twice (in 2007 and 2012), but still not with the result we wanted. With this mastering by Hans Fredriksson in January 2020 we finally feel that the greatness of this album revealed." This CD re-issue contains 5 bonus tracks of demos recorded more-or-less live in the spring of 2006 at Anekdoten's studio Sisu Sound. 'In for a Ride,' 'King Oblivion' and 'Stardust and Sand' were lost for many years but found on a hard drive by Nicklas while cleaning out a closet in 2019, then he restored and mixed them in November 2019. The demos for 'Prince of the Ocean' and '30 Pieces' were previously released on the Kscope compilation 'Chapters.' Nicklas believes some of the demos outclass the studio versions.

Michael Landau/Liquid Quartet Live ....CD $16.99

The album was recorded live at the world-famous Baked Potato Jazz Club in Los Angeles in November last year with his Liquid Quartet line-up of drummer Abe Laboriel Jr (Paul McCartney), bassist Jimmy Johnson (Alan Holdsworth) and on guitar and vocals, David Frazee (Burning Water). The intimacy oozes through the record, from the soft chitter-chatter, to the whoops, cheers, and "yeah" delights of the crowd. It's almost as if you are transported to one of the tightly packed tables in the front of the stage, soft lighting above your head watching the quartet perform in front of the back wall that's adorned with gig posters. The setlist features outings of some brand new songs (Well Let's Just See, Can't Walk Away from It Now) as well as some inspired renditions from his back catalogue; from his previous studio album 'Rock Bottom,' and from Renegade Creation, the band he formed with Robben Ford, as well as two instrumentals to finish the night.
Mountain/Avalanche ....import CD $14.99
CD reissue. Avalanche is somewhat of an underrated gem. Leslie West's mean guitar tone prevails throughout the majority of the album, leading off with a cover of "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," while adding a loose remake of "Satisfaction." And the free-wheelin' "You Better Believe It" serves as a proto stoner guitar workout, as the big man commands with a furious six string assault of distortion and fuzz, and cowbell fills augment the nearly-six-minute jamming cut. "Sister Justice" rolls behind a cool riff and a full-on '70s groove. With guitarist David Perry, Corky Laing on the drums and Felix Pappalardi on keys and bass guitar this is definitely the most consistent and hardest rocking Mountain album in their discography.
Grateful Dead/Road Trips Vol. 3 No. 1: Oakland 12-28-1979 ....2 CD Set $40.99
Ah, those year-end Bay Area concert runs by the Dead. Seldom was the band quite as consistently brilliant as they were during these celebratory stands, playing in familiar environs in front of audiences full of old friends. The group's archivists already dipped into this particular set of performances with Dick's Picks Vol. 5, which captured the December 26 show; this 2-CD set transports us two days later for another superior date which again demonstrates the astonishing degree to which keyboardist Brent Mydland had integrated himself into the band by the end of 1979. Special mention should also be made of the sound, too, taken from the original soundboard concert reels recorded by Betty Cantor-Jackson and remastered in HDCD by Jeffrey Norman; the booklet features Jay Blakesberg photos from the Oakland Auditorium shows and an essay by long-time Dead scribe Steve Silberman. As for the music, any set that includes 'High Time' promises exactly that; 'It's All Over Now' drops a series of 'Phil Bombs' right before it. Set two unleashes a medley that goes from revelatory to rockin' in one time-suspending, hour-plus journey that starts with 'Terrapin Station' and winds up with 'Good Lovin.'' The 'Casey Jones'/'One More Saturday Night' encore brings the night to a dizzying close, sending the crowd out in the streets for a party that was no doubt just getting started. First time available at regular music retail!

Today when not writing and recording in his home studio, he performs with several bands. His latest group, Blue Coupe, is a superstar combo which features his brother Albert Bouchard, also a founding member of BOC, and Dennis Dunaway, a founder of the Alice Cooper Group and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Strange Legends features Mickey Curry (Bryan Adams, Hall and Oates, Alice Cooper) on drums, with stand out tracks like "Forget About Love," "She's a Legend" and the cover of The Kinks 1964 hit "All Day and All of the Night."
Erik Wollo & Michael Stearns/Convergence ....CD $15.99

Known for passionate soundtrack work on director Ron Fricke's Chronos, Baraka & Samsara, Stearns collaborates on his first indie-label-released non-film-score since 2001. Together, these guitarists/synthesists weave a haunting and shadowy world filled with longing melodies and alluring glimmering sonic textures. Convergence ranges from slowly-evolving contemplative and reflective tracks to hypnotically pulsing rhythmic movements. The album is a subtle interplay between these two pioneering artists' mystical and emotional sonic styles, developing an inner resonance of expressive reveries that venture into dark mystical terrain as the album progresses.
Jon Hassell/Seeing through Sound (Pentimento Volume Two) ....CD $16.99

A companion piece to 2018's Listening To Pictures, this second volume in the pentimento series presents eight new tracks by the music visionary, continuing his lifelong exploration of the possibilities of recombination and musical gene-splicing. Unicorn/Slow Dancing - The Recordings 1974-1979 [Remastered & Expanded] ....import 4 CD Box Set $45.99
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of a new four CD clamshell boxed set that gathers together three albums and an additional disc of previously unreleased archive material by the legendary British band Unicorn: "Slow Dancing - The Recordings 1974 - 1979." Unicorn recorded their first album in 1971 for the Transatlantic label, but by 1973 they began an association with David Gilmour of Pink Floyd who was taken with the band's musical approach and American West Coast musical influences, vocal harmonies and very English lyrics. Gilmour was to produce their next album, Blue Pine Trees. Featuring a line-up of Kenny Baker (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Pete Perryer (Drums, lead vocals) Pat Martin (bass, vocals) and Kevin Smith (lead guitar, mandolin) , "Blue Pine Trees" was released on the Charisma label in 1974 and was produced by David Gilmour, who also featured on Pedal Steel Guitar and guitar on several tracks. In 1976 the band signed with EMI's Harvest label and recorded their next album Too Many Crooks. David Gilmour produced the album once again and also featured as a musician on several tracks. The album included the song No Way Out of Here which Gilmour would cover on his first solo album in 1978. One More Tomorrow, was the band's final album and was released in 1977. Although Unicorn would continue until 1979, the band didn't record another new album. "Slow Dancing - The Recordings 1974 - 1979" gathers together the albums Blue Pine Trees, Too Many Crooks and One More Tomorrow, all with additional bonus tracks and features an additional CD with 19 previously unreleased studio and live archive recordings, selected by Unicorn's Pat Martin. The set also features an illustrated booklet and essay and is a fine tribute to one of Britain's most unique bands.
Randy California & Spirit/The Euro-American Years [Remastered] ....import 6CD Box Set $45.99
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of an expanded 6 CD clamshell boxed set of "The Euro American Years" by Randy California and Spirit. The set that gathers together studio and live recordings made between 1979 and 1983 by the Randy California Band and additional live recordings by Spirit. In mid-1979 the trio incarnation of Spirit broke up and Randy formed a new solo band and embarked on a European tour supporting Ian Gillan. After recording a series of demos, further studio sessions produced the recordings which would form his solo album Euro-American, released in 1982 (and included in this set). The original boxed set of The Euro American Years was compiled by Spirit archivist Mick Skidmore and was issued in 2006. The original concept for this box (which sold out very quickly in its first pressing, only to be consistently bootlegged in various countries via downloads and separate CDR discs for which the artists received no compensation) was to pull together the vast amount of music that Randy released during 1979-1983 period (although some tracks were recorded earlier and were shelved due to lack of a record deal). Due to demand from fans, Mick Skidmore has recovered from the archives an additional two CDs worth of previously unreleased material, namely a live concert by Spirit recorded in Greensboro, North Carolina in April 1981 before a wildly exuberant audience, along with The Randy California Band's entire set at Reading Festival in 1982 and a part of the band's set at Glastonbury Festival from the same year. This new edition of The Euro American Years was compiled and mastered by Mick Skidmore and features a booklet with a new essay and photographs from the period.
Wizzard/Introducing Eddy & The Falcons ....import CD $18.99
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a new expanded re-mastered edition of the 1974 album Introducing Eddy and the Falcons by Wizzard. After earning success as a performer and songwriter with The Move and The Electric Light Orchestra, Roy Wood formed Wizzard in 1972. The band stacked up a series of classic hit singles and released the album Wizzard Brew for EMI's Harvest label before departing for Warner Bros in 1974. Wood and his band embarked on the recording of their second album, a loose concept base around a fictitious British Rock band of the early 1960s, Eddy and the Falcons. The resulting album was a triumphant pastiche and was a top twenty hit upon it's release. Unavailable on CD for many years, this welcome Esoteric Recordings reissue has been newly re-mastered and includes five bonus tracks drawn from singles all issued in 1974, including the top ten hit 'Are You Ready to Rock.' The release also restores the original artwork and features a new essay and a replica poster included with the original 1974 LP release.
Roy Wood & Wizzard/Main Street [Expanded & Remastered Edition] ....import CD $18.99
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a new re-mastered edition of the legendary, mysteriously shelved album Main Street by Roy Wood & Wizzard. The supremely talented Roy Wood recorded the material for what should have been his third solo album in the Spring of 1976. The album was originally intended to have been released under the title Wizzo and was to have showcased a different musical side to Roy Wood and his band, with the material taking on a more jazz-rock influence. The resulting album was a magnificent work and showcased the multi-faceted talent of Wood. A single, 'Indiana Rainbow' was released by Jet Records in 1976 but failed to gain airplay or commercial traction and so the release of the album was shelved. Roy Wood later reflected; "The album was probably a last attempt to retain some sort of sanity, trying to grow up, and not carry on indefinitely being just another pop group." In 1999 the master tapes were re-discovered and Main Street finally saw the light of day for the first time on CD. However, the title was deleted within a few years and has remained unavailable for nearly two decades. This welcome Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly re-mastered and includes the bonus track 'Human Cannonball' which was recorded during the album sessions. The release also restores the original artwork and features a new essay.

Various Artists/Peephole in My Brain - The British Progressive Pop Sounds of 1971 ....import 3 CD Set $28.99
Marc Bolan invented glam rock, David Bowie wore a dress on the front cover of his latest album, The Kinks provided the soundtrack for a film about a penis transplant, DJ Tony Blackburn chose a single by The Edgar Broughton Band as his Record of the Week, and Jonathan King was backed on Top of the Pops by Fairport Convention. Peephole in My Brain documents the progressive-pop sounds of the year as the underground rock scene crossed over to the mainstream. Our 71 tracks from '71 include major hits for the likes of Curved Air, Atomic Rooster and John Kongos as well as a selection of key album cuts from Procol Harum, ELP, Magna Carta, Barclay James Harvest, Cressida, Help Yourself, Legend and many others. We also include tracks that were first issued in 1971 but which would only make a mark later on: Status Quo would have to wait a while for 'Mean Girl' to hit the charts and Terry Dactyl & The Dinosaurs would find success twelve months later when 'Sea Side Shuffle' was reissued. We disinter bona fide classic 45s from Kevin Ayers, Medicine Head, Wishful Thinking and The Move along with the song that Bowie wrote for his old friend Dana Gillespie, a clutch of righteously obscure but fascinating singles, a handful of essential singer / songwriter cuts and a raft of unissued-at-the-time nuggets from bands who existed outside of the major label pop bubble. Featuring a 40-page booklet crammed with rare illustrations and the stories behind the songs, Peephole in My Brain is an essential addition to Grapefruit's acclaimed year-by-year series of late sixties / early seventies British rock and pop.

In 1975 they released their second album 'Clannad Two' which was produced by Donal Lunny of Planxty and Bothy Band fame. By this time the group's reputation was spreading throughout Europe where standing ovations were commonplace. They came to the attention of the Tara Music label who recorded their next album 'Crann Ull' which in addition to featuring Maire's harp playing also featured a fuller band sound which was a feature of their live shows at the time. In 1981 they recorded their second album with Tara 'Fuaim' (meaning Sound). For this album they were joined by their sister Enya on keyboards and vocals. Rose City Band/Summerlong ....CD $15.99
2020 release. It is impossible to talk about modern psychedelic music without mentioning Ripley Johnson. As bandleader of Wooden Shjips and half of Moon Duo, Johnson has continually charted new cosmic paths that expand on the language of the genre. With Rose City Band, Johnson's songwriting and beautiful guitar lines take center stage. While his vocal treatment would be recognizable to any Wooden Shjips fan, the sparseness of the instrumentation lays bare the beauty of his writing. Shimmering guitar lines are free to shine, buoyed by driving rhythms. New to the mix are arrangements and instruments drawn directly from classic country, resulting in songs with more than a hint of twang. Buoyant and joyous, Summerlong is a captivating listen that leaves the listener yearning for more. The record is an ode to freedom, born of a musician stepping out of all routines and whose own liberation is communicated so completely in his music. Summerlong is a record that, taken in it's entirety, is an emphatic statement on the songwriting power of Ripley Johnson. Johnson's joy in every aspect of this album is delightfully infectious.
Various Artists/West Meets East: Indian Music & Its Influence on the West ....import 3 CD Set $26.99
In the fifties, the influence of Indian music on the West manifested itself in the work of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Eric Dolphy and Ornette Coleman: pioneer jazz musicians of a golden generation who were fascinated by its form and how it worked as a model of improvisation, the skill that lay at the heart of their own art. A decade later, It took the Beatles to catapult Indian music to the forefront of public awareness and make the sound of the sitar a common feature of popular culture in the West. Their engagement with the ancient classical music of the subcontinent started an avalanche of similar experiments in the rock and pop world, engendering what Ravi Shankar called 'the Sitar Explosion.' For a while, the sitar or some other element from Indian music was increasingly heard in the background of general texture of recordings by many famous British groups: the Rolling Stones, Traffic, Kinks, Yardbirds, to name but a few, while musicians working in the domestic folk-rock field such as Pentangle, the Incredible String Band, and the guitarist Davy Graham also picked up on it. In the United States, aspects of Indian music would be absorbed both by such psychedelic bands as The Byrds, The Doors, Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane and by composers of new music, the minimalists: Terry Riley, La Monte Young, Steve Reich and Philip Glass. But Western fascination with Orientalism was not entirely new; it's piquancy is evident in the works of such impressionists as Claude Debussy, Benjamin Britten and Maurice Ravel, a composer considered to be the father of Exotica, whose sound world is at the heart of the works of Exotica's most formidable icons, Les Baxter and Martin Denny. This presentation comprises key recordings by major Western jazz, exotica and classical artists under the spell of Indian music and culture, combined with the long, perfumed recordings by Ravi Shankar and his Indian contemporaries which most influenced them.

Anekdoten/From Within ....CD $14.99
The third album from the Swedish progressive rock band Anekdoten, recorded and mixed on analogue tape at the famous Atlantis Grammofon (formerly Metronome Studio) in Stockholm, home to many classic ABBA albums. Predecessor 'Nucleus' was a heavy album, with only a little relief from it's stridency. In comparison, 'From Within' is an album of light and shade.'From Within' will be released in a digipack with 8-page booklet and was remastered in 2020 by Hans Fredriksson.
Anekdoten/Nucleus ....CD $14.99
The 1995 second album from the Swedish progressive rock band Anekdoten, following 1993's debut 'Vemod' (a classic in the underground scene, blending the progressive attack and symphonic darkness of King Crimson with the sensibility and beauty of Nordic songwriting). Nothing about the perhaps naive 'Vemod' could have prepared the listener for the shocking verification that came with 'Nucleus.' Over those two years, the quartet's artistic voices had been brought to perfection, resulting in an album that simply cannot be compared to any other record. It's sheer power, originality, excessive cravings, mayhem, complexity, elegy, intelligent chord-and time-changes, variety and weird tonality mark the first point in history where Anekdoten present themselves as a unique entity. 'Nucleus' is like a musical painting of The Beauty and the Beast. The mixture of brutal, dissonant riffs and fragile, extraordinary melody-lines is a work of genius. State-of-the-art rock does not get any better than this.'Nucleus' will be released in a digipak with 8-page booklet and was remastered in 2020 by Hans Fredriksson

The ensemble was to be known as The Blue Angel Orchestra (a reference to the epic track on Cousins' first solo album). Following a few days rehearsal in Teddington, the album was recorded and mixed in just a week at Chris Tsangarides' studio in Kent, with most tracks recorded live, giving the album a fine spontaneity. The finished album was widely praised upon its release by both Strawbs fans and critics. Unavailable for some years, The Boy in the Sailor Suit has been newly re-mastered and expanded to include three bonus tracks featuring live performances of songs from the album, recorded in the USA in 2008 and in the UK in 2009. This release features the original artwork and booklet liner notes by Dave Cousins.

create Something with a Pulse, a tribute to Mark to help defray his medical expenses.

Miles Davis/The Lost Septet ....2 CD Set $18.99
Two CD set. The company that brought you the #1 jazz album 'Miles Davis: The Lost Quintet' is delighted to release this follow up album; the second in an amazing trilogy. "If you are going to change your music, you gotta change your band," Miles Davis said. And he never stood still. The incredible seven-piece band, The Lost Septet, never recorded in the studio but we are lucky that they did a European tour in October / November 1971. This double album captures one of the best performances on that tour, only previously broadcast on radio, at the Wiener Konzerthaus, in Vienna on 5th November. The line-up for this incredible show features: Miles Davis - trumpet, Gary Bartz - soprano & alto sax, Keith Jarrett - electric piano, organ, Michael Henderson - electric bass, Ndugu Leon Chancler - drums, Charles Don Alias - percussion, James Mtume Foreman - percussion. Miles Davis' last recording in the studio was the Jack Johnston album although he was still going through more changes in music, slowly moving on to more of a rock sound than jazz (his friendship with Jimi Hendrix was a big infuence). "We were as intense as any rock band and just as loud," remembers Gary Bartz. Miles showcased music on this tour from various albums such as In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew also Jack Johnston and also Live Evil. The Lost Septet were informed by this increasingly rock background and Miles himself was playing with a wah-wah pedal, which made him sound more like a guitar. In the older days, Miles Davis played in the middle register, but now with The Lost Septet he produced more high notes, and his playing style and that of the band would reflect that new style delivery. Unmissable.
Dennis DeYoung/26 East Vol. 1 ....CD $14.99
Brand new studio album from former Styx frontman, Dennise DeYoung. Features a guest appearance from Julian Lennon on the track 'To The Good Old Days.' Styx founding member Dennis DeYoung is back with a new original solo album, "26 East, Vol. 1." "26 East" was the address where DeYoung grew up in Roseland, IL on the far south side of Chicago. This is where the band was formed in his basement in 1962. Across the street lived the Panozzo twins, John and Chuck, who along with DeYoung would go on to form the nucleus of Styx. The cover artwork features three locomotives traveling through space, representing the original members leaving Chicago on their journey to the stars. "This was supposed to be my final album but there were so many songs written that Serafino Perugino, CEO of Frontiers, suggested dividing it into two albums rather than one," DeYoung states. "This is Volume 1, which sounds pretentious to me, but the marketing folks wanted you to know there are going to be two of them, so hey kids, there are two of them; this is Volume 1." DeYoung describes 'East Of Midnight' as a song about how late night radio changed our lives as the music transported us to a world bigger than the one we knew." The process that brought forth the album beginning in the first place started when Jim Peterik, a fellow Chicagoan and nearby neighbor, sent a song to Dennis. "If not for Jim Peterik's encouragement, talent and prodding I would not have recorded this music," says DeYoung. "He once told me the world needed my music; to which I replied 'have the world text me for verification.' We collaborated from the get go, happily and seamlessly and at this time we have written 9 songs together of which five will be on Volume 1. Just two Chicago guys doing what they do best, making music and having a laugh." In support of the release of "26 East," DeYoung will tour heavily throughout 2020.
The Dream Syndicate/The Universe Inside ....CD $12.99
When one thinks of The Dream Syndicate, it's not just the wild abandon with which singer/guitarist Steve Wynn, drummer Dennis Duck, bassist Mark Walton, and lead guitarist Jason Victor perform - it's the carefully constructed songwriting of Wynn that comes to mind. By now every rock critic in the country has predetermined who he or she feels Wynn reminds them of and what they think of that style of songs. This time, don't! Which brings us to The Universe Inside. Every article or review ever written will claim "this is new and different" - well, it is! Just look at the song lengths: 20:27, 7:36, 8:56, 9:55 and 10:53. Ok, sure - the Syndicate have occasionally committed a long song to vinyl, "John Coltrane Stereo Blues" was 9 minutes with live versions over the ten-minute mark. For the first time, every song is a group songwriting effort. What seeps in are Dennis Duck's knowledge of European avant-garde music, Jason Victor's passion for '70s prog, Mark Walton's experience in Southern-fried music collectives and Wynn's love of vintage electric jazz. The dazzling display of album cover artwork alone should clue you into the changes. But don't take our word for it. Dive in!
Nick D'Virgilio/Invisible ....import CD $18.99
Coming almost two decades after his debut solo offering, Invisible is the second solo album by drummer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Nick D'Virgilio (Big Big Train/Spock's Beard/Genesis etc). A concept album about 'finding meaning,' the recording process was split between the legendary Abbey Road Studios (including full string and brass sections) and Sweetwater Studios in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Invisible boasts star turns from luminaries such as guitarists Paul Gilbert, Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick) and Carl Verheyen (Supertramp), bassists Tony Levin and Jonas Reingold, plus keyboard players Jordan Rudess and Jem Godfrey. NDV describes his new record as, "A collection of songs that make up the story of a man who is unhappy with where his life has ended up. He finally decides to take the scary step of leaving everything behind so he can go and find the meaning of his life." He continues: "Throughout my career I have been in many different places. Over time the word 'invisible' kept coming to mind and it got me thinking of people that truly have the hardest jobs in the world, or no job at all. The outliers. The ones we all take for granted. The ones we will never know but if they were not there then our lives would not be the nearly the same. Over time I amassed lyric and song ideas with the idea of writing a concept record on the subject." Keen to establish that "this is not your typical drummer record," NDV states that "Invisible is a rock album with various musical flavours thrown in because the songs were formed with the story in mind. A classical prelude that uses various themes from the whole piece sets the stage. From there comes a mellow ballad outlining the story and then it is on to the adventures of the central character. The main thing making this record did for me was to reaffirm my strong belief that we are all here for something. We all have a purpose."
Judy Dyble/Weavings of a Silver Magic ....import CD $20.99
The original female voice of Fairport Convention and subsequently part of Giles, Giles and Fripp and Trader Horne, Dyble retired from the music business in 1973. However, following a handful of live festival appearances, she returned to recording with a double A-side single in March 2008, followed by her solo debut album, Talking with Strangers, in August 2009. Featuring, among others Robert Fripp, Ian McDonald, Julianne Regan, Simon Nicol and Jacqui McShee alongside co-writer Alistair Murphy on acoustic guitar and piano, bassist Mark Fletcher and guitarist Jeremy Salmon, the latter three comprising the core of her band of the last ten years, 'The Perfect Strangers,' appearing on her three solo albums (but not Summer Dancing, a 2017 electronica collaboration with Andy Lewis). They again join her here now on Weavings of a Silver Magic, her second live album, recorded at St. Barnabas Church in Cambridge in September 2016 and featuring the Ad Hoc Strings quintet, keyboards and cajon. Save for one number, the material's all drawn from 2013's Flow and Change and Earth is Sleeping, her most recent, from 2018. Weavings of a Silver Magic ends with the aforementioned exception, a six-minute arrangement on 'I Talk to the Wind,' the dreamy song, and an evocation of early Fairport, she recorded both as a demo with Giles, Giles and Fripp, which eventually surfaced on the 2002 reissue of their 1968 Brondesbury Tapes, and, in a more uptempo version with King Crimson on the 1976 compilation A Young Person's Guide to King Crimson. Pure magic throughout- silver, gold and platinum.

Foghat/Boogie Motel ....import CD $14.99
Foghat is synonymous with the '70s. The blues rockin' and boogie band from England built their reputation in the states throughout the dazed and confused decade as a no-frills, hard workin' group. Foghat was never going to appeal to the critics, as the group, like Grand Funk Railroad, was a people's band. This mega-voltage record has an Overture entitled "Somebody's Been Sleeping in My Bed" that sets the tone and is the albums first hit-single. "Third Time Lucky" was the follow-up hit-single. "Paradise Alley" brings out the acoustic guitars and the lonesome slide guitar. Foghat's boogie can be fast or slow, but it will move you either way.
Edgar Froese/Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure ....import Book $64.99
Edgar Froese, composer, musician, artist and notable pioneer in the area of electronic music, looks back over many years of music history and the band that had a major influence on his life: Tangerine Dream. The will to unconditionally revolutionize sound itself correlated inescapably with the awakening of the new, leaving the stench of the1950s behind and creating a completely new consciousness for the post-war generation. Told totally in the style of the spirit of the '60s, the reader becomes magically immersed in an unsettling but fascinating universe, marked among other things, encounters and collaborations with the greats from the worlds of art, film and music - names like Salvador Dalí, Jimi Hendrix, Andy Warhol, David Bowie, Michael Mann, Oliver Stone, Ridley Scott, Jim Rakete - to name but a few. Concert tours as the first band from the West ever to journey through the former GDR and Poland during the dark days of the Iron Curtain are spiked with countless entertaining anecdotes. In the 1980's, young and ambitious Hollywood directors found Tangerine Dream to be the perfect scoring partners for their new movies. Edgars Froese's autobiography "Force Majeure" is an authentic compendium of contemporary history; the book contains many unpublished photographs, as well as the thoughts and ideas of fellow musicians, friends and fans, all rounding off this unique and new literary composition.
Peter Gabriel/Rated PG ....CD $14.99
Originally compiled for a limited edition picture disc LP release for RSD 2019, Rated
PG is a collection of Peter Gabriel songs that have been used in films. Including
the beautiful That'll Do, Everybird and more. Having always loved the combination of
film and music (aged 17 he gave up a place at film school to pursue a career in music),
Peter Gabriel's first opportunity to really marry these twin interests came when he was
asked to create the music for Alan Parker's film Birdy in 1985. Further film work,
including his music for Martin Scorsese's The Last Temptation of Christ (that became the
album Passion) and the soundtrack to Philip Noyce's film Rabbit-Proof Fence (released as
the album 'Long Walk Home'), has continued to feed that interest. Rated PG is an
opportunity to bring together in one place a selection of PG songs used in movies.

And a second side that delivers the mighty 'Cherry Red,' McPhee's take on The Beatles' 'A Day In the Life,' a sideswipe at junk food and a glorious interpretation of John Lee Hooker's 'Groundhogs Blues.' 'Both musically and lyrically, 'Split' speaks for a lost time, a nomad time when ideals took to the hoof and musicians stayed on the road rather than confront the fact that the '60s 'war' had been lost.' Julian Cope 'Supercharged, fractured and raging.' MOJO. Remastered and packaged with out-takes from the original sessions that spawned this spontaneous monster.

Neil Innes/How Sweet to Be an Idiot ....import CD $19.99
Digitally remastered and expanded edition. Neil Innes' sad and sudden death in December 2019 robbed the world of one of Britain's most original and unique musical and comic talents. Innes made his name in the 1960s with the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band before diversifying in the 1970s into TV, solo and other projects - including the famous and much-loved Beatles pastiche The Rutles. How Sweet to Be an Idiot was Neil's debut solo album, first issued on United Artists in 1973, it's title and cover design reflecting Neil's eccentric sense of humor. The album has never been reissued on CD in it's original format and sleeve - until now! Cherry Red were working with Neil on this project prior to his tragic death. The package boasts 10 bonus tracks, some of them previously unissued, including the different single arrangement of the album's title track and various A- and B-sides (including single mixes of the Bonzos' 'Slush' and 'Music from Rawlinson's End' from their album Let's Make Up and Be Friendly).
July/The Complete Recordings ....import 6 CD Box Set $44.99
Released by the Major Minor label in 1968, the self-titled July album has long been acknowledged by genre enthusiasts as one of the classic UK psychedelic one-shots, mixing the ambition and experimentation of "Sgt. Pepper" with a lo-fi charm and endearing garage band artlessness and one of the earliest appearances on record of Jon Field and Tony Duhig who went on to create Jade Warrior. It is also one of the most hotly-pursued artefacts of the British psychedelic era. Our definitive 6-CD overview of the band's activities includes newly-remastered versions of the album in both mono and stereo formats as well as the various single issues, including a completely different recording of album nugget 'The Way.' Disc Three contains "The Second of July," a collection of pre-album demos that appeared in the mid-Nineties to capitalise on the band's growing reputation as original copies of their LP began to sell for increasingly large sums of money. The remainder of the boxed set consists of more recent July recordings following their triumphant return to live work a few years ago. Disc Four is the aborted album "Temporal Anomaly," which was recorded circa 2010 but which gains a first-ever release, while Disc 5 is the appropriately-titled "Resurrection," which received a limited release in 2013. Disc Six comprises the latest July magnum opus, "The Wight Album," which has been pieced together over the last few years by Tom Newman and Peter Cook at Tom's recording studio on the Isle of Wight. Now finally completed, "The Wight Album" - described by Tom as "the greatest July album" - brings the July story bang up to date. Housed in a clamshell box, and with a 40-page booklet containing a 7000 word essay on the band featuring new quotes and some priceless period photos, The Complete Recordings is an epic look at the studio activities of one of the biggest cults to emerge from the original British psychedelic scene.

They have earned much acclaim for their powerful live concerts and now this established classic rock band bring you their second album - State of Dystopia. A State of Dystopia is defined as an imagined state or society in which there is great suffering or injustice. Typically, one that is totalitarian or post-apocalyptic. The album is an eclectic mix of original tracks laced with the themes of life and love, war, peace and hope. The band's trademark guitar sound and melodic harmonies is present, along with a powerful rhythm section, tempered with tides of keyboards and one of the greatest voices in rock today. Strawbs/Burning for You [Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....import CD $18.99
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a newly re-mastered and expanded edition of the classic 1977 album Burning for You by the Strawbs. Recorded at Relight Studios in the Netherlands in March 1977, the album was the band's second for the recently established Oyster Records (formed by Deep Purple member Roger Glover). For the recording sessions the line-up of Dave Cousins (vocals, acoustic guitars), Dave Lambert (vocals, electric guitars), Chas Cronk (bass, guitars, vocals) and Rod Coombes (drums) was augmented by Robert Kirby (mellotron, electric piano, synthesiser & acoustic guitar) and John Mealing (keyboards). The initial recording sessions were supervised by Jeffrey Lesser who had previously worked with the band on the Deep Cuts album the previous year. Burning for You featured many fine compositions written mainly by Dave Cousins and Chas Cronk, spawning a hit single in Back in the Old Routine and also featured the Dave Lambert song Heartbreaker. This Esoteric Recordings expanded edition has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and features four bonus tracks, including an early version of the song Joey and Me (later to feature on the band's 1978 album Deadlines), two out-takes from the album sessions and the song Heartbreaker (a different composition from the song featured on Burning for You), from the 1977 Intergalactic Touring Band concept album project. The release restores the original artwork and includes a new essay by Dave Cousins, making this the definitive edition of Burning for You.
Strawbs/Heartbreak Hill [Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....import CD $18.99
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a newly re-mastered and expanded edition of the classic "lost" Strawbs album Heartbreak Hill. Recorded in 1978 at Ringo Starr's Startling Studios, the album was recorded at a time of change for the band. Seeking to rethink their approach (following the release of the album Deadlines), the sessions would feature a line-up of Dave Cousins (vocals, guitar), Chas Cronk (bass, vocals), Andy Richards (keyboards), Tony Fernandez (drums) and Jo Partridge (guitars, mandolin, vocals). Recording sessions began with Dave Lambert in the ranks, but his departure after the recording of the song "Something for Nothing" led to the recruitment of Jo Partridge. The album would also see the guest appearance of Miller Anderson on guitar and vocals on the song 'We Can Make It Together.' Despite the fraught nature of the beginning of the recordings, the finished work was a fine progressive rock album. Alas, upon completion, Strawbs found themselves without management or a record deal and Heartbreak Hill would remain unreleased in any form until 1995 when a CD was prepared from a 7 ½ ips copy tape. The discovery of the original master tapes in 2006 saw a new re-release of the album. Now, Heartbreak Hill has been newly re-mastered and features four bonus tracks, including two David Cousins home demos from 1978 and live recordings of 'Heartbreak Hill' and 'Starting Over' from The Strawbs 40th anniversary celebration in September 2009 performed by the line-up who recorded the original album. The release includes a new essay by Dave Cousins, making this the definitive edition of Heartbreak Hill.
Tangerine Dream with Roedelius & Frick/Klangtraube [Edgar Froese Memorial Day 2019] ....import CD $23.99
For the 4th Edgar Froese Memorial Day (EFMD) on 26th January 2019 at the Ballhaus Rixdorf in Berlin, Bianca Froese-Acquaye invited Hans Joachim Roedelius to perform at the event. Roedelius is an electro pioneer and co-founder of the legendary Berlin Zodiak Free Arts Lab (Zodiak Club), the birth place of many Krautrock and electronic bands, including Edgar Froese and Tangerine Dream. Hans-Joachim's soulful piano playing blends in fantastically with the rhythmic beats and sounds of Paul Frick, member of the Berlin based Techno ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick, who already appeared several times as guest musician at live concerts with Tangerine Dream, and the distinctive synth sounds of Thorsten Quaeschning, long-time member and musical director of Tangerine Dream. Hoshiko Yamane, also a member of Tangerine Dream since 2011, completes the session with her extraordinary violin play by adding her special timbre we all know so well from her TD sessions. The Klangtraube is a very unique, almost meditative piece of music that invites the listener to dream. In view of this current time of the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, this piece of music reflects the spirit of the Zeitgeist very well. A piece of music for dreaming and reflection, a sound journey into another dimension, wide and intangible, like the hearts and minds that will be opened, the Klangtraube is a dignified and extraordinary session of four exceptional musicians in memory of Edgar Froese.
Various Artists/Miniatures One + Two ....import double CD $22.99
Repressing. Two CD release containing both volumes of Morgan Fisher's groundbreaking releases: The first volume released in 1980, followed 20 years later by Volume Two. In '80, overwhelmed with concepts for potential releases, Fisher decided to see how many of these ideas he might be able to squeeze onto just one album. Rather than performing everything himself, he invited 50 musicians he admired to send in tracks of up to one minute in length. They responded with unanimous enthusiasm, and Miniatures was born out of Morgan's precise editing and sequencing of these tracks, providing a unique snapshot of the cutting-edge music of the period and achieving legendary status amongst those who cherish such creativity and individuality in the process. Featuring artists as diverse as the Residents, Robert Fripp, XTC's Andy Partridge, Pete Seeger, Robert Wyatt and the Pretenders' Martin Chambers, as well as cover artwork contributed by Ralph Steadman, 113 tracks. Cherry Red.
Various Artists/Teil 1 Kraut!: Die Innovativen Jahre Des Krautrock 1968-1979 ....import 2 CD Set $36.99
Progressive Rock from Germany! Never before has there been a comparable compilation! Towards the end of the 1960s, German bands began their first attempts to emancipate themselves stylistically from their US and British role models. Progrock and psychedelia from our country were initially smiled at internationally and disparagingly called 'Krautrock' by cult DeeJay John Peel, among others. Unorthodox formations could not be pigeonholed, and so a scene with a wide musical range was created. With the release of the first of a total of four issues, Bear Family marks another milestone on the way to a comprehensive documentation of the history of popular music in Germany from the early 1960s to the mid-1980s. With 'Kraut! Die innovativen Jahre des Krautrock 1968-1979' we will release a double CD every three months in 2020 with a booklet of about 100 pages and biographies of each band, an exquisite selection of the exciting and influential bands of those days, some of which caused a sensation far beyond Germany.

The album is made up of twelve Neil Young songs, of which seven are previously unreleased - "Separate Ways," "Try," "Mexico," "Kansas," We Don't Smoke It No More," "Vacancy" and "Florida" (a spoken word narration). Also included are the first recordings of "Love Is a Rose," "Homegrown," "White Line, "Little Wing," and "Star of Bethlehem" - different versions of which would all later appear on other Neil Young albums.
