Strawbs/Settlement ....import CD $18.99
Strawbs/Settlement [180 Gram Vinyl] ....import Vinyl LP $34.99
Esoteric Antenna is delighted to announce the release of the new studio album by the legendary band Strawbs. Settlement is the latest album recorded by Strawbs, more than 50 years on from the band's first major label release. The album comes at a time of political and social upheaval, which the lyrics and melodies of the songs reflect. Undeterred by the fact that 'business as usual' was not possible because of the global Covid-19 pandemic - working remote from one another, from their own home studios - Settlement is a remarkable achievement. David Cousins, leader of Strawbs says: "Settlement is something extraordinary. I can't think of another band who can go from metal grunge to the lilt of an Irish ghost story - or from a song in 6/8 time to singing in 4/4 over a 5/4 backbeat - in half an hour. The lyrics reflect the times we have been living through and I'm immensely proud of what we've achieved." Settlement is produced by Blue Weaver who played with Strawbs and Bee Gees in their 1970s heydays. The recording was coordinated from Blue's studio in Germany, where he now lives. Strawbs are David Cousins, Dave Lambert, Chas Cronk, Tony Fernandez and Dave Bainbridge. Special guests on the album are John Ford, another former member of Strawbs, who lives in New York, Cathryn Craig, with her lovely voice and unmistakable Southern lilt, who lives in Northern Ireland, and bass player Schalk Joubert, with whom David Cousins performed in South Africa at the beginning of the year. "There comes a time when every Settlement is due!"
John Renbourn Group/A Maid in Bremen [Live at Roemer, Bremen Feb. 14th 1978] ....import CD $22.99
In 1967 the British guitarist and songwriter John Renbourn together with his friend Bert Jansch founded the British folk rock band Pentangle. Like Jansch, Renbourn was considered an outstanding representative of the British "Folk Baroque" and fingerpicking playing technique. Since 1968 Renbourn successfully recorded several albums with Pentangle for the well-known UK folk/folk rock label Transatlantic. After the release of the album "Solomon's Seal" in 1973, the band members went separate ways. From then on Bert Jansch and John Renbourn realized solo plans. Albums like "The Lady and the Unicorn" and "The Hermit" by John Renbourn are still considered milestones today of British folk rock. In 1977 John founded the John Renbourn Group, recorded two studio albums and a live album with them and was busy touring again around the world. A 1978 live-recording by Radio Bremen from the Roemer in Bremen/Germany also bears witness to these live activities. Again with John on stage: the former Pentangle singer Jaqui McShee. Multi-instrumentalist Tony Roberts, the well-known Indian tabla player Keshav Sathe (among others: John Mayer, Julie Felix) and the American cellist Sandy Spencer (member of the French based prog folk rock band Mormos, later also with the well-known Trevor Watts String Ensemble) completed the line-up of the John Renbourn Group in Bremen that night. Jacqui McShee, who also wrote the liner notes for the booklet to this album, still remembers the Bremen concert: "To my knowledge this is the only recording of Sandy with the group, she left soon afterwards to return to America." And goes on: "I have been chatting to Tony recently (we laughed a lot) and of course we both miss John and Kesh, but we have these wonderful recordings and the albums that we made and we have a sense of pride in the music we played together."

Guru Guru/Live in Essen 1970 ....import CD $17.99
Stunning quality, rare live performance recordings of krautrock pioneers Guru Guru, from one of their earliest ever live concerts on Sunday October the 25th 1970. Three long slabs of prime classic psychedelic prog, two from the 'UFO' album and one off 'Hinten,' show the band at their apex, defining a sound that had never been heard before. Sourced from tapes recorded directly from the sound desk at the show, the recording quality is phenomenal for something of this vintage era. The original line-up of Mani Neumeier - drums & vocals, Ax Genrich - guitar and Uli Trepte - bass & vocals, are present and on full power. Guru Guru stood for space, psychedelic experience and electric magic. It stood for energy, imagination and freedom. Turn on, tune in, take off!
Be Bop Deluxe/Drastic Plastic [Expanded & Remastered
Edition] ....import 2 CD Set $20.99
Be Bop Deluxe/Drastic Plastic [Deluxe Edition] ....import 4 CD + 2 DVD Box Set $85.99
Esoteric Recordings is proud to announce the release of a new re-mastered and expanded
2 CD edition and new re-mastered six-disc deluxe expanded boxed set limited edition
(comprising 4 CDs and two NTSTC - Region Free DVDs) of "Drastic Plastic" the
classic1978 album by Be Bop Deluxe. "Drastic Plastic" would be the final Be Bop
Deluxe album and was recorded in the summer of 1978 in the South of France at The Villa
Saint Georges, Juan-les-Pins, utilising the Rolling Stones mobile studio, with final
sessions taking place at The Manor Studio and Abbey Road Studios. The record saw Bill
Nelson (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Charles Tumahai (bass, vocals), Andy Clark
(keyboards) and Simon Fox (drums) venture into new musical styles, with the album being
ground-breaking in its move to more "art rock" and "new wave"
influences. In many ways it can be seen as the signpost to where Bill Nelson would head
with his Red Noise project with a desire to continue to progress as an artist by pushing
musical boundaries. Co-produced by Bill Nelson and John Leckie, "Drastic
Plastic" was another hit album in both the UK and the USA and featured such classic
material as 'Electrical Language,' 'Panic in the World,' 'New Mysteries,' 'Islands of the
Dead' and 'Surreal Estate.' The recording sessions produced many more tracks which would
appear as singles (such as 'Japan') and others that were originally planned for release as
an EP set ('Autosexual,' 'Lovers are Mortal,' 'Speed of the Wind,' 'Quest for the Harvest
of the Stars,' 'Face in the Rain'), all of which eventually appeared on the retrospective
compilation The Best of & the Rest Of... later in 1978. The expanded two CD reissue
has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and features an additional 25
tracks, drawn from stunning stereo mixes from the original multi-track tapes by award
winning engineer Stephen W. Tayler and non-album singles and additional tracks recorded
for an intended EP. This set also includes a lavishly illustrated booklet with many
previously unseen photographs and an essay of recollections by Bill Nelson.
The expanded deluxe reissue has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and features an additional 88 tracks, (43 of which are previously unreleased), drawn from stunning new 5. 1 surround sound & stereo mixes from the original multi-track tapes by award winning engineer Stephen W. Tayler, previously unreleased out-takes from the album sessions, a BBC Radio John Peel Show session from January 1978, along with a CD of Bill Nelson's previously unreleased demos for the album, "A Feeling of Playing." Also included is an additional DVD featuring Be Bop Deluxe in the South of France, (a collection of Bill Nelson's 8mm home movies shot whilst recording "Drastic Plastic") and the band's Sight & Sound In Concert performance for BBC TV from 1978. Another highlight of this limited-edition boxed set is the lavishly illustrated 68-page book with many previously unseen photographs and an essay of recollections by Bill Nelson. Additionally, the set includes postcards and a replica poster. The two CD re-mastered and expanded edition and special deluxe limited edition of "Drastic Plastic" are a fitting tributes to the creative vision of Bill Nelson and the musicianship of Be Bop Deluxe.

The Mastelottos/A Romantic's Guide to King Crimson ....CD $18.99
Valentine's Day 2021 delivers an unexpected and welcome surprise with the release of "A Romantic's Guide to King Crimson," the new 12-track album of reinvented King Crimson material by the husband and wife duo Deborah and Pat Mastelotto. The collection, which spans the band's entire history, revisits classics including "Matte Kudasai," "Heartbeat," "Moonchild," "Elephant Talk," "Peace," "Exiles," and "Sleepless." "It's always been a joke in the King Crimson camp that there's never a line for the women's restrooms during intermissions," said Deborah. "King Crimson plays loud and it's often intense and raucous. But it can also be haunting and melodic, with some of the most beautiful lyrics ever. We wanted to help uncover that sweetness and introduce the songs to a different type of audience with 'A Romantic's Guide to King Crimson.'"
Barock Project/The Boxset 2006 - 2019 ....import 6 CD Box Set $119.99
The new Barock Project - The Boxset contains the band's studio record history. This 6 CD set includes the albums Misteriose Voci and Rebus in completely remixed and remastered editions; Coffee in Neukolln, Skyline and Detachment in remastered editions and Seven Seas, plus 5 bonus tracks and the detailed history of each record. "The Barock Project idea generates from a desire to deliver the finest structure of classical music (mainly baroque) with a rock-style and a little bit of jazz harmony, supported by a pop framework with the intention to revamp the appeal of '70s progressive-rock. The project founder, pianist and composer Luca Zabbini, states that his passion for the music of famous keyboardist Keith Emerson (ELP) has fuelled his desire to compose and play a full range of styles, from classical to rock and jazz." - Prog Archives
Missing Persons/Spring Session M [2021 Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....CD $15.99
Formed in 1980 by the core trio of Dale and Terry Bozzio along with Warren Cuccurullo (all Frank Zappa alumni), Missing Persons perfectly fit into the New Wave movement. With her quirky singing style and colorful homemade attire, Dale Bozzio created a unique image that was both ear and eye candy. Husband Terry brought powerhouse drumming to their sound that added immediate credibility. Future Duran Duran guitarist Warren brought a rocking guitar sound that could either provide a melodic accompaniment or blistering solo, all with a distinctive sound that was very much his own. Released in late 1982, the full length debut album Spring Session M (an anagram for the band's name) became an instant hit, eventually achieving Gold status. Now including additional members Patrick O'Hearn (another Zappa alumnus) and Chuck Wild on bass and keyboards, the music videos for the hit singles Words and Destination Unknown were put into heavy rotation on MTV. Two additional chart singles, Windows and Walking in L.A., were also released. Rubellan Remasters is proud to reissue the full catalog of the original Missing Persons. Dynamically remastered from original master tapes from the Universal Music tape archive, Spring Session M not only includes the original 12 album tracks, but has been expanded to include the additional songs from the debut EP, including one of their signature tunes Mental Hopscotch.
Missing Persons/Rhyme & Reason [2021 Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....CD $15.99
The 1984 sophomore album by Missing Persons, Rhyme & Reason, saw the band taking a more experimental approach. The prevailing sound of the album was Terry Bozzio's electronic drums and percussion. The album cover, with it's sophisticated black and white Helmut Newton photos showing a generally make-up free band, could be somewhat misleading because the music video for the first single, Give, showed Missing Persons as colorful and distinctive as ever. The pure pop Right Now was released as the second single and playful music video, while third single Surrender Your Heart took a more melodic approach with acoustic guitars complimenting the keyboard washes. The experimental All Fall Down and Racing Against Time added further layers to another strong album, while the albumn closes with what is arguably the best track, If Only For the Moment. Rhyme & Reason showed a band daring to try new things while succeeding to retain their identity. In addition to the original ten album tracks, this newly remastered from original tapes edition also includes an album outtake and two exceptional 12" single remixes.
Missing Persons/Color in Your Life [2021 Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....CD $15.99
The third and final album from the original incarnation of Missing Persons appeared in 1986. Color in Your Life was given a big name producer in Bernard Edwards (from Chic) and a budget with the intention of advancing Missing Persons beyond their semi-cult status. Despite the big production sound, the album was still undeniably Missing Persons. Dale Bozzio's voice sounded strong and confident, Terry Bozzio's drumming was just as impressive as ever, Warren Cuccurullo's guitars were still given a spotlight despite the increased focus on the rhythm section, and Patrick O'Hearn's basslines remained intricate and detailed. The single I Can't Think about Dancin' looked straight to the club scene with a booming beat and groovy bassline. No Secrets and Face to Face maintained the high energy hooks fans had come to expect from Missing Persons, while Boy I Say to You continued the experimental side. Soon after the album's release, the band and the Bozzio's went their separate ways with each individual member going on to further success individually. Dynamically remastered from original tapes, this new edition includes the nine original album tracks along with a couple of album outtake and various remixes of I Can't Think About Dancin.'
Richard Barbieri/Under a Spell ....CD $16.99
The man whose illustrious career began in the late '70s with synth-pop visionaries Japan and more recently as a member of influential art-rock band Porcupine Tree follows up 2017's Planets + Persona with new album Under a Spell. 2017's Planets + Persona was adventurous and bold, showcasing Barbieri's endlessly inventive song writing and mastery of electronic music. Under a Spell picks up where that left off, journeying further into the expansive terrain he had sonically mapped out. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, everything changed. "I wrote and recorded it in my studio at home, with all this strangeness going on outside," says Barbieri. "It became something completely different: this weird, self-contained dream-state album." On Under a Spell, Barbieri was intent on capturing the atmospheres and moods that his disconnected brain was conjuring rather than slaving over arrangements and melodies. Songs such as 'Flare,' 'Serpentine,' 'Sleep Will Find You' and its companion piece-of-sorts 'Darkness Will Find You' are sharply defined despite their dream-inspired genesis. The album's title perfectly encapsulates the haunting, evocative world Barbieri has created. Songs such as the skittering, billowing 'Clockwork' and 'Sketch 6's dub-inspired soundscape hang suspended in that strange half-world between sleep and waking - a subconscious reflection of the surreal state the planet has found itself in over recent months. There are voices but no vocals, collaborators include Marillion frontman Steve Hogarth and Swedish singer Lisen Rylander Love (who co-wrote 'A Star Light'). Barbieri's willingness to constantly redefine his own musical boundaries are never more evident than on the brilliant, hypnotic Under a Spell - the latest milestone on this utterly unique journey.
Japan/Quiet Life ....CD $14.99
Japan/Quiet Life [Deluxe Edition] ....3 CD + LP Box Set $67.99
That Japan's breakthrough record Quiet Life was released in both 1979 and 1980 is uniquely fitting for a band who were about to step out of the glam rock, post punk shadows of the late '70s and deliver an as yet genre-less record that would come to define the '80s. Japan included David Sylvian, Richard Barbieri, Mick Karn and Steve Jansen. Quiet Life was the third, final and most successful release on the Hansa Records label. A forerunner for the alternative/new wave sound of the new decade, the album would become one of the great classic British albums. The record is now the subject of a major new reissue featuring a brand new half-speed remaster of the original album, alt mixes, b-sides, singles, rarities and live material - including the sought after 'lost' Live at Budokan show from March 1980 previously only available as the 4 track EP 'Live in Japan.' The release features newly restored original album artwork, exclusive new liner notes with foreword by original producer, John Punter, rare and unseen photography and memorabilia.
Various Artists/Oh! You Pretty Things: Glam Queens & Street Urchins 1970-1976 ....import 3 CD Set $39.99
In the teenage wastelands of grey early seventies Britain, where the musical landscape was dominated by introspective singer-songwriters and dour rock bands, the emergence of the outrageous, androgynous, peacock-plumaged Glam Rock scene provided a vital spark in the dark. Sadly the genre was quickly hijacked by the backroom hustlers of the British music industry and their mutton-dressed-as-glam pop idol marionettes. However, Oh! You Pretty Things ignores such lightweight fripperies to concentrate on the real deal. We focus on the twin central strands of Glam Rock: the cerebral and the visceral, with the artier, experimental element of the scene joined by the Ladbroke Grove street rockers and the Steve Marriott-channelling chirpy Cockney geezer street urchins, many of whom had been to drama school and knew how to strike a pose. We examine the trash-aesthetic fault line that joined the seedy, no-longer-swinging London of the early seventies with New York's sleazy demi-monde and the incorrigible hucksters of Hollywood. The latter were led by Kim Fowley, ably assisted by LA scenester Rodney Bingenheimer, who opened Rodney's English Disco (allegedly at Bowie's suggestion), where the underage groupies, teenage runaways and glitter queens of Sunset Strip hung out with visiting British rock royalty and the likes of Alice Cooper and a wasted Iggy Pop. Incorporating huge British bands (Roxy Music, Slade, Sweet etc) and the leading US acts on the scene (New York Dolls, Jobriath, Lou Reed, Iggy & The Stooges), our four-hour anthology of prettiest stars, prima ballerinas and real cool traders covers all bases. Some acts were defined purely by glam, others (ELO, Strawbs, Thin Lizzy) merely paid the neighbourhood a fleeting visit, while the likes of Despair and England's Glory would only find their niche after the more streetwise element of glam mutated into punk. Big hits, inexplicable misses, seminal glam texts, cult classics, key album tracks, alternative versions and even a clutch of previously unreleased but essential recordings: Oh! You Pretty Things - housed in a clamshell box that contains a 40-page booklet of amazing photos and incredible stories - assembles all these and more to act as the definitive primer of a relatively short-lived but glorious musical and pop-cultural phenomenon.
Fernando Perdomo/TRGTR [The Music of Todd Rundgren] ....import CD $18.99
TRGTR is the new album by critically acclaimed guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Fernando Perdomo of Dave Kerzner Band, The New Empire, and Jakob Dylan's Echo in the Canyon band. TRGTR is the first all instrumental tribute album to the music of Todd Rundgren. This is Fernando's second all instrumental tribute album following 2019's critically acclaimed "The Crimson Guitar" tribute to King Crimson. The 16 songs represent every era of Todd's 50 plus year career from The Nazz to a song off his forthcoming album "Space Force." Fernando Perdomo's remix of Todd's Collide-A-Scope won Todd's remix contest and his remix was released by Todd on his 2015 "Global Nation" Single. Perdomo plays all the instruments on the record except for Nick Bertling and Eddie Zyne who play drums on one track each. The record is not only a tribute to Todd's guitar playing and song writing... many steps were taken to recreate Todd's production techniques and signature sounds.
Lyle Workman/Uncommon Measures ....CD $12.99
Bursting at the seams with soaring arrangements and virtuosic performances, Lyle Workman's 'Uncommon Measures' showcases not only Workman's unparalleled musicianship, but also his profound empathy and expansive emotional vocabulary. The songs here are living, breathing entities, constantly growing and evolving in ways both subtle and drastic, and the production is similarly unpredictable, veering from larger-than-life bombast to whispered intimacy and back, sometimes within the very same track. The result is a record as extraordinary as it is unexpected, a captivating, transportive song cycle that manages to scale the dizzying heights of joy and sadness, love and friendship, self-discovery and celebration, all without a single word. "Lyle Workman is a completely accomplished and inspired guitarist, musician and composer," says Steve Vai. "He has a wicked command of the instrument and is perhaps one of three players I know of that can wield exotic orchestral compositions with either a screaming or whispering guitar. 'Uncommon Measures' is the masterful evidence of this." Guest stars include Vinnie Colaiuta, Toss Panos, Charlie Bisharat and many more including a 63 piece orchestra recorded at Abbey Road Studio One.
Blackmore's Night/Nature's Light ....CD $14.99
Blackmore's Night/Nature's Light [Deluxe Edition] ....2 CD Set $19.99
"Our music is an escape from the stress and pressure of modern times. Journey back through time with us, to a simpler, magical time where music enters your heart and soul," say Candice Night and Ritchie Blackmore. The ten new tracks make for a remarkable new record - one that could only have been written by Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night. Once again, the duo is able to mix the tradition of British Folk music and love for the Renaissance sound with their style, inspired by myths and legends of ancient times. Escapism reaching towards an ideal beauty found in different time, as understood perfectly by the audience that renews its love for Blackmore´s Night since its formation. While the album is rooted in a traditional approach, fans of Ritchie Blackmore's unique style will once again not be disappointed. Heartfelt ballads such as a brand-new version of 'Wish You Were Here' set the scene for magical tales on 'Four Winds' and 'The Twisted Oak.' For the two instrumental tracks - 'Darker Shade Of Black' and 'Der letzte Musketier' - Ritchie shows that his unmistakable Fender Stratocaster guitar sound is still magic as it always was! The Deluxe Edition is a 2 CD media book with a second CD of nine Blackmore's Night classics.

Don Airey & Friends/Live in Hamburg ....2 CD Set $17.99
Don Airey is the keyboard player of Deep Purple. With the iconic British band, he succeeded in doing what would have been impossible for any other keyboard player, substituting the legendary founding member Jon Lord, accidentally one of his idols. Don's career has been incredible. His contribution has marked the history of hard rock. From his works with Ozzy Osbourne on the first albums, through Michael Schenker Group, three great album with Rainbow (together with Roger Glover and of course Ritchie Blackmore), until playing on many albums from Gary Moore, including the hit "Still Got the Blues" for which Airey wrote and arranged all the orchestral parts. This concert has been recorded in Hamburg, during the club tour of his solo album "One of a Kind," the first released on earMUSIC. The show is a selection of Don's favourite songs from his unique career. A "Hard Rock songbook," played live in a superb way by a band including Carl Sentance (the current singer from Nazareth) and the guitar rising star Simon McBride.
Peter Green/Whatcha Gonna Do? ....import CD $17.99
'Whatcha Gonna Do?' is Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green's fourth solo album, the third in his middle period of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Considering this period of Peter Green's solo career, this is one of the best albums. All the tracks on the album were written by Green's brother Mike. "Gotta See Her Tonight" is bitterness itself, to a rock-reggae beat. "Lost My Love" is a subtly dynamic slow blues, with two superb solos that refer to Albert King. And then there's "Last Train to San Antone" with an architectural guitar solo. Green's guitar leads had gotten very elliptical but still has a nice pace and attack. There's an excellent rhythm section, particularly Fairport Convention drummer Dave Mattacks and a nice production job by Peter Vernon-Kell.

Constantly taking the simple, 'guitar trio' line-up into new territories, their music is a masterclass of musical interplay and focused forward mommentum. "[Their releases] perfectly encapsulate the rare chemistry that these players have found together, and the musical conflagrations that can emerge when artists find likeminded souls with whom to collaborate." - DownBeat. "Three top avant jazzers with decades of experience among them create a distinctive band identity... contributing equally sans grandstanding... " - AllMusic
Toe Fat/Bad Side of the Moon: An Anthology 1970-1972 ....import 2 CD Set $23.99
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of Bad Side of the Moon, a new re-mastered two CD anthology featuring the recordings of the cult rock band Toe Fat. Formed in 1969 by former Rebel Rouser Cliff Bennett joined with former Gods keyboard player and guitarist Ken Hensley to form a new band that would take on board harder rock and progressive influences. Hensley drafted in fellow Gods members Lee Kerslake on drums and bassist John Glascock to form this new group, Toe Fat. The band signed to EMI's Parlophone label in late 1969 and their self-titled debut album was recorded at Abbey Road studios and was issued in May 1970 adorned in an infamous sleeve design by Hipgnosis and also featuring an early composition from Elton John/Bernie Taupin with 'Bad Side of the Moon.' In the USA Toe Fat appeared on Motown's rock imprint Rare Earth Records. The album was greeted with considerable critical praise, although commercial success failed to match the reaction from the UK music press. Hensley departed the band soon after to form Uriah Heep to be replaced by guitarist Alan Kendall. Kerslake also departed and formed The National Head Band before joining Uriah Heep in 1971. He was replaced by Brian Glascock. Toe Fat 2 was issued on the Regal Zonophone label in November 1970 and featured an uncredited Peter Green on guitar on the track 'There'll Be Changes.' Once more the album sleeve design was by Hipgnosis and the record was greeted with praise but failed to chart. The band toured the USA and recorded a final single, issued on the Chapter 1 label in 1972 before disbanding. Over the decades the music of Toe Fat has earned cult status and their records are now highly collectable. This two CD collection features both albums by the band and also adds the very rare single 'Brand New Band' b/w 'Can't Live Without You' as bonus tracks. It also features an essay with an exclusive interview with Cliff Bennett.
Saga/Symmetry ....CD $14.99
After going on tour in spring 2020, Saga went straight into its home studios. The result: an album full of acoustic originals. "Symmetry" offers a unique listening experience by bundling complex and delicate arrangements with familiar melodies and sounds. It gives the listener the possibility to explore and discover Saga classics like "Wind Him Up," "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" and "Tired World" once more and in a completely new way. Saga managed to create more than just new versions of their songs; they created a sonic world full of little details that invites the listeners to dive deeper into the complex musical phenomenon that is Saga. Ian Crichton states about the album: "After opening for 'ourselves' on our 2017 European tour acoustically, the decision to record an acoustic record was born. This is different Saga, everyone! We invited, from Ontario, Canada, Shane Cook on fiddle, and Stefany Seki, Beth Silver on cello to accompany us on our offside interpretation of music we've played for years. [We] had a lot of fun doing so!
Lee Kerslake/Eleventeen ....import CD $20.99
With a career that goes back to the 1960s, Lee Kerslake's first step into the rock limelight was with The Gods, recording "Genesis" in 1968 and "To Samuel a Son" in 1969. Joining Toe Fat for their self-titled debut in 1970, via 1970's "Orgasm" by Head Machine, so far Lee had shared his musical journey with multi-instrumentalist and song writer Ken Hensley. This musical connection and friendship would be further cemented in 1972 when Lee joined Ken in Uriah Heep for the classic "Demons & Wizards" LP, remaining behind Heep's drum kit for the best part of 30 plus years. Lee also found time to make cameos drumming for Ken Hensley and David Byron solo records along the way, and most notably as a founder member of Ozzy Osbourne's solo band, drumming on the multi-platinum "Blizzard of Ozz" in 1980 and "Diary of a Madman in 1981. He also appeared with super group Living Loud, a band featuring bassist Bob Daisley, guitarist Steve Morse, singer Jimmy Barnes and keyboard player Don Airey. Standing down from drumming full-time for Uriah Heep in 2007 due to ill-health, Lee commenced his debut solo album in 2015 with Jake Libretto, completing the album in 2019. According to Lee's notes from the album, "WOW, I have to say now the album is finished there is a great sense of achievement. It's been a little over three years to record and finish it, it took so long because I could only manage two days a week and sometimes nothing for a period of time as the chemotherapy without my permission kept me away. Never mind it's done and I am very proud of the songs. "Eleventeen" is a collection of eight songs, seven of them written or co-written by Lee, and starts with Celia Sienna. Lee offers notes and insights for each track, and Take Nothing for Granted "is based around my wife and then some," evidently with tongue firmly in cheek. Where Do We Go From Here, which according to Lee, "It's all to late to realize... where do we go from here? I've had too many argumentative girls in my life!!!" You May Be By Yourself (But You're Never Alone), "This song was written when Bob Daisley gave such a loving look to squish his daughter it moved me all those years ago. " Port and a Brandy, according to Mick Box's dedication on the album, "The song 'Port and a Brandy' made me smile as we have shared many of them together over the years. " Next up is a heartfelt rendition of Carole King's timeless You've Got a Friend, which Lee dedicates to, "all of my friends past and present who I have loved through music." "Eleventeen" concludes with the instrumental Mom, which Lee wrote for, "all the mums in the world who we should never take for granted." Lee sadly passed away in September 2020 at the age of 73. Leaving the last word to his friend and long-time Uriah Heep bandmate: "It fills me with great pride that he achieved this as his last final musical legacy."

Hawkwind/Solstice at Stonehenge 1984 [Deluxe Boxset Includes Colored Vinyl Double LP, 2CD's, DVD, Bag, Posters & Book] ....import 2 LPs + 2 CDs + DVD Box Set $85.99
Hawkwind have always been associated with music festivals, most notably the free festivals where Dave Brock has said that the band is not shackled to appease an audience by giving them what they expect and have paid to see. With that obligation removed, the band can relax and experiment more than usual and gigs become even more fun. When we think of Hawkwind and festivals the word Stonehenge leaps to the fore. The band always loved being there, enjoying the whole event as well as the freedom of how and when they played. The most important one of these was Stonehenge 1984 which proved to be the last festival before the authorities moved in the following year to block the festival from being set up and Hawkwind ended up playing a few miles away instead. Happily, the 1984 festival was recorded and filmed and the Hawkwind Solstice Eve and Solstice Morning were both preserved. Hawkwind played an interesting and varied main set in the evening, featuring a blend of old and new Hawkwind songs, along with numbers from Inner City Unit and Bob Calvert's Lucky Leif and the Starfighters album. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere, there was a considerably extended version of Ghost Dance, lasting around ten minutes. The sunrise set was special too, with a long, laid-back, jam at dawn, in fitting with the occasion. A lovely and relaxing start to the day and the kind of jam they couldn't really play to a paying audience. It's good to have the memories of this significant festival gathered together in three formats. Enjoy this special set, which commemorates a special event, not only in the history of Hawkwind, but of the saga of Stonehenge festivals.

Anneke Van Giersbergen/The Darkest Skies Are the Brightest ....CD $14.99
The Darkest Skies Are the Brightest is Anneke van Giersbergen's 23rd career album. It was created in a time of personal crisis, with just an acoustic guitar and basic recording gear, in a small house near the woods just outside of Anneke's hometown, and it grew into something much bigger. Lyrically, and musically, the award-winning Dutch artist lays her soul bare with the most evocative record of her career - captivating song-stories told with acoustic guitars, strings, horns, percussion, and Anneke's hypnotic vocal harmonies, combined with surprising departures into swampier, foot-stomping grooves.

Handed Dream] ....import CD $22.99
Ryuichi Sakamoto with Adrian Belew/Hidari Ude No Yume [Left Handed Dream] ....import Vinyl LP $41.99
Wewantsounds present the reissue of Ryuichi Sakamoto's third solo album Hidari Ude No Yume (Left Handed Dream), originally released in 1981 on the Alfa label. Save for a small-scale Dutch vinyl release in 1981, it is the first time the album's original Japanese edition is released outside of Japan (the European release on Epic Records included significantly different tracks and mixes). Hidari Ude No Yume was recorded at the legendary Alfa Studio "A" in Tokyo during the Summer of 1981. it came after B-2 Unit in 1980 and his debut album Thousand Knives Of... in 1978, the very year Sakamoto was invited by Haruomi Hosono to join Yellow Magic Orchestra alongside Yukihiro Takahashi. In 1981, Sakamoto decided to record an album rooted in pop, following the more experimental B-2 Unit and his landmark electro debut. Sakamoto invited British producer Robin Scott to co-produce. They entered the Alfa studio in July 1981 with his fellow YMO musicians Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi, keyboard programmer extraordinaire Hideki Matsutake who'd been on Sakamoto's first two albums and became YMO's unofficial fourth member, violinist Kaoru Sato, saxophonist Satoshi Nakamura, and American guitarist Adrian Belew (David Bowie, The Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club and later King Crimson). Together, they created a fascinating mix of pop, ambient and electronic music with elements of avant-garde and traditional Japanese music, the whole firmly rooted in a solid groove. From the funk of "Relache" to the new wave feel of "Venezia" and the ambient minimalism of "Slat Dance," the album is remarkably consistent while displaying a wealth of global influences. The album was released in Japan in 1981 and Epic Records picked it up for Europe a year later but decided to release it in a significantly altered version. The sequencing was completely reshuffled and two tracks, "Saru No Ie" and "Living in the Dark" were completely dropped while three others, "Relache," "Tell 'em To Me," "Venezia" were heavily remodeled with English lyrics and different names. Last but not least, a new English-sung track, "The Arrangement," was added, making the album nine tracks instead of ten for the Japanese edition. Newly remastered from the original tapes by renowned engineer Bernie Grundman. Comes with original artwork featuring cover shot by famous photographer Masayoshi Sukita. Four-page insert with new introduction by journalist Anton Spice.

Famed for his rock roots with Genesis, and through his extensive solo catalogue, Hackett demonstrates the exquisite beauty of the nylon guitar at times venturing into the exotic ethnic and often supported by dazzling orchestral arrangements. "A lot of acoustic ideas had been forming over the years, and it felt like the perfect time to create this album," notes Hackett, "a time to contemplate the places we've visited around the Mediterranean with the kind of music which evolved from the world of imagination. Because we can't really travel substantially at the moment, I hope that the album will take people on that journey. Whether you sit down and listen to it or drift off to it with a glass of wine..."

"The Albums" features newly remastered versions of "Air Conditioning," "Second Album," "Phantasmagoria" and "Air Cut," along with bonus tracks 'It Happened Today' (single version), 'What Happens When You Blow Yourself Up' and 'Sarah's Concern,' all originally issued as singles. Originally issued on the Warner Bros. Label in November 1970, "Air Conditioning" showcased the highly innovative talents of Sonja Kristina (vocals), ex-Royal College of Music student Darryl Way (violin), former Royal Academy of Music student Francis Monkman (electric guitar, piano, mellotron, VCS3 synthesiser), Rob Martin (bass) and Florian Pilkington-Miksa (drums). Taking their name from the album "A Rainbow in Curved Air" by American composer Terry Riley, Curved Air's debut album perfectly demonstrated the band's innovative musical approach, blending classical, electronic and folk music influences in their work and featuring Sonja Kristina's sublime vocals. Featuring such classic tracks as 'It Happened Today,' 'Propositions,' 'Vivaldi' and 'Situations,' "Air Conditioning" was a Top Ten hit in the UK and firmly established Curved Air as one of Britain's foremost progressive bands. "Second Album," released in 1971, featured a line-up of Sonja Kristina (vocals, acoustic guitar), Darryl Way (violin, piano), Francis Monkman (guitar, keyboards, VCS3), Florian Pilkington-Miksa (drums) and new member Ian Eyre (bass). The album included the classic hit single 'Back Street Luv' along with such classic tracks as 'Young Mother,' 'Jumbo,' 'Puppets,' 'Everdance' and 'Piece of Mind' and was an acclaimed hit album in the UK and Europe. The 1972 album "Phantasmagoria" saw another change of line-up, with Mike Wedgwood replacing Ian Eyre and featured such classic tracks as 'Marie Antoinette,' the album title track and 'Melinda (More or Less).' Curved Air's final album for Warner Bros. was the 1973 release, "Air Cut," which saw the departure of Darryl Way, Francis Monkman and Florian Pilkington-Miksa. Eddie Jobson joined on violin and keyboards, whilst Kirby Gregory was recruited on guitar and Jim Russell on drums. Perhaps one of Curved Air's most progressive albums, "Air Cut" featured some outstanding compositions such as 'The Purple Speed Queen' and the ten-minute epic 'Metamorphosis.' "The Albums 1970 - 1973" has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and is a fine collection of music by one Britain's foremost pioneering progressive rock bands of the 1970s.

Edgar Broughton Band/Speak Down the Wires - The Recordings 1975-1982 ....import 4CD Box Set $45.99
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of Speak Down the Wires, a re-mastered four-disc clamshell box set of the four albums issued by the Edgar Broughton Band / The Broughtons between 1975 and 1982: "Bandages," "Live Hits Harder!," "Parlez Vous English" and "Superchip: The Final Silicon Solution." From the release of their debut album for EMI's Harvest label in 1969, "Wasa Wasa," the Edgar Broughton Band were trail blazers for the counterculture and rock music with a social conscience and could even be seen as godfathers and influencers of the later Punk movement. Hailing from Warwick and featuring Edgar Broughton (guitars, vocals), Steve Broughton (drums, vocals) and Arthur Grant (bass, vocals), their hard hitting approach over a series of albums for the Harvest label earned them many loyal fans and several hit singles (including their anthem 'Out Demons Out!'). In 1973 the band departed Harvest and would record a further four albums, all released on independent labels between 1975 and 1982. "Bandages" was the first of these records and was born of a time when the band was bedevilled with management problems. Recorded in the summer of 1975 in Oslo, the band was joined by new member John Thomas on guitar and was later mixed by the band and Mike Oldfield at his home studio, "Bandages" was a fine record and featured Mike guesting on the tracks 'Speak Down the Wires,' 'The Whale' and 'Fruhling Flowers.' Despite the acclaim for "Bandages," by 1976 the band had decided to take a break and embarked on a "farewell" European tour with the addition of another guitarist to the band, Terry Cottam. Several UK shows were recorded by the RAK Mobile studio and the highlights were eventually released in 1979 as the "Live Hits Harder!" album. By the time of this release the band had already entered the studio with a new line-up featuring Edgar and Steve Broughton, Arthur Grant joined by Pete Tolson (guitars), Richard de Bastion (keyboards, backing vocals) and Tom Norden (guitars, backing vocals) to record the excellent album "Parlez Vous English." This record was produced by the band assisted by John Leckie and Simon Heyworth and saw the band shorten their name to The Broughtons. "Parlez Vous English" took on new wave and art rock influences and, with highlights such as 'All I Want to Be' (also a single), 'Anthem,' 'Revelations One' and 'April in England,' was arguably the most polished of all the albums recorded by the band. Following a promotional tour in 1980, the Edgar Broughton Band took the step of forming their own label for their next release in 1982, the conceptual album "Superchip: The Final Silicon Solution." The record saw the band revert to a trio and adopt the use of keyboards more extensively and the album's dystopian message is perhaps more pertinent today than when it was first issued. Speak Down the Wires - The Recordings 1975 - 1982 is a fine collection of music and tells an often overlooked chapter of the later musical legacy of one of Britain's most genuine bands.

Transatlantic/The Absolute Universe [Deluxe Edition] ....import 5 vinyl LPs + 3 CDs + Blu-Ray $99.99
Transatlantic - the Prog Supergroup of Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Roine Stolt & Pete Trewavas are pleased to announce their fifth studio album 'The Absolute Universe,' set for release in February. Representing the band's first new music since 2014's 'Kaleidoscope,' with 'The Absolute Universe' the band have done something unique and created two versions of the record: 'The Absolute Universe: The Breath of Life (Abridged Version)' & 'The Absolute Universe: Forevermore (Extended Version).' As Mike Portnoy explains: "We've got two versions of this album. There is a two CD presentation, which is 90 minutes long, and a single one - that's 60 minutes. However, the single CD is NOT merely an edited version of the double CD. They each contain alternate versions and even in some cases, new recordings. We wrote fresh lyrics and have different people singing on the single CD version tracks as compared to those on the double CD. Some of the song titles have also been changed, while others might remain the same, but compositionally what you'll hear has been altered. You must appreciate that what we have done is unique. We revamped the songs to make the two versions different." Pete Trewavas adds: "We did write some new music for the single CD, what's more, there are also differences in the instruments used on some of the tracks across the two records."

Byzantium/Halfway Dreaming - Anthology 1969-75 ....import 5 CD Box Set $45.99
Evolving from the line-up that had recorded the highly-regarded Ora LP in 1969, Byzantium recorded two early seventies albums - 'Byzantium' and 'Seasons Changing,' both featuring future Ian Dury music director Chaz Jankel - for the A&M label. After leaving A&M, the band self-financed the 1974 'Live/Studio' album in an effort to attract new representation before splitting the following year. Although they received relatively little attention from the music industry at the time, Byzantium's progressive rock-based combination of musical eclecticism, strong harmonies and timeless song writing have belatedly attracted an audience, with collectors now paying significant sums to acquire original vinyl pressings of their recordings. Assembled with the help and approval of the band, Halfway Dreaming: Anthology 1969-75 is the first-ever Byzantium compilation. It includes all three albums that were released at the time, together with a further set of 1974/75-era live material, various studio out-takes and, as a considerable bonus, an extended version of the Ora album. Housed in a stylish clamshell box, this essential 5-CD package features a lavish 32-page booklet containing a new 4000 word essay on the band and numerous previously unpublished photos. It's the definitive document of a band who fell through the cracks at the time but have subsequently come to be regarded by many as an integral part of the early seventies British underground scene.
Conrad Schnitzler/Paracon (The Paragon Session Outtakes 1978-1979) ....import CD $18.99
These entirely instrumental recordings were created in the late 1970s at Peter Baumann's Paragon Studio. This stellar period gave rise to the finest works: the Con, Consequenz and Con 3 albums, featuring such wonderful pieces as Fata Morgana, Coca and Auf dem schwarzen Kanal. These recently discovered pieces take the aforementioned albums a stage further. Sounds complement each other as they are reprised, whilst continuing to exist in their own cosmos. As you listen, you feel as if you have been transported back into the studio itself while the sessions are happening. Wolfgang Seidel, co-author of these pieces, has opened up his archive of recordings to the Bureau B label. He and Conrad Schnitzler spent many years together experimenting with sound, capturing the results on the two Consequenz albums, amongst others. Schnitzler is electronica in its purest sense. He succeeds in rendering the unconscious audible. This goes far beyond "music to listen to," it is music which works on different levels, music to move you.

Black Sabbath/VOL 4 [Super Deluxe Edition] ....4 CD Box Set $57.99
Black Sabbath unleashed the group's fourth album in two years in 1972 with Vol 4. Stacked with classic tracks like "Supernaut," "Changes," and "Snowblind," the record harnessed the group's surging popularity to reach the Top 10 on the Albums Chart in the U.K. and the Top 20 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S., on its path to being certified platinum by the RIAA. The innovators of heavy metal revisit Vol 4 on a new collection that includes a newly remastered version of the original album along with a trove of 20 unreleased studio and live recordings and comes with extensive booklets featuring liner notes with quotes from the era from all four band members, rare photos, and a poster with previously unpublished early artwork of the album using the working title Snowblind. Bolstered by a fresh remastering, Vol 4's ambitious arrangements and complex grooves have never sounded more inspired and menacing. Originally released in September 1972, the album marked two major changes for the members of Sabbath: Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. While their previous albums - Black Sabbath, Paranoid, and Master of Reality - were produced by Rodger Bain and recorded in England, they instead chose to produce Vol 4 themselves and record it at the Record Plant in Los Angeles. The generous addition of bonus material on VOL 4: Super Deluxe Edition begins with six previously unreleased studio outtakes from the original sessions for the album. Each one has been newly mixed by Steven Wilson using the analog multi-tracks. Highlights include outtakes for "Supernaut" and "Changes," as well an instrumental version of "Under the Sun." The set also features 11 additional studio recordings (also newly mixed by Wilson from the analog multi-tracks) that spotlight alternative takes, false starts and snippets of studio dialogue. These tracks transport listeners into the studio with the band and offer some insight into the making of the album. Along with several alternative takes for "Wheels of Confusion," these recordings also include outtakes for "The Straightener" and "Snowblind." The collection concludes with a searing collection of live performances that re-create a typical setlist from Black Sabbath's tour for Vol 4. Recorded in March 1973 at various stops along the band's U.K. tour. The recordings were originally slated for a live album that was ultimately shelved. Although some of these performances have been previously available in various states, the release marks the first time that a full 1973 live Sabbath show has been recreated. The live audio has been newly mixed by Richard Digby Smith using the original 16-track analog tapes to achieve a level of fidelity not heard on any previous incarnations.

Snowy White & The White Flames/Something on Me ....CD $15.99
Snowy White is one of a handful of classic blues-orientated British electric guitar players - musicians whose sound, technique and style has echoed the originality of the blues with the excitement of contemporary rock. He has developed his own style of 'English' blues, a combination of clear, clean blues phrases and harder-edged riffs that are a recognisable feature of his very personal songs. In the Autumn of 1976 he was invited to tour America and Europe with Pink Floyd as their first augmenting musician, a gig which took up most of his time throughout 1977. In 1979, Peter Green decided to head for the studio once more and invited Snowy and his band along to jam. The result was the album entitled 'In the Skies,' now something of a collector's item. He was then asked by Pink Floyd to go to America to rehearse their new show entitled 'The Wall,' and, at the same time, the rock band Thin Lizzy invited him to become a full-time member. Snowy stayed with the band for nearly three years of touring, recording 'Chinatown' and 'Renegade' with them in 1982, before leaving to pursue his solo career. Snowy's first solo album was entitled 'White Flames.' This album included the timeless 'Bird of Paradise,' written by Snowy, which became a hit single around the world. Every year from 1999 to 2014 Snowy toured the world with Roger Waters, including the 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' and massive 'The Wall' tour. In between tours, he founded the Snowy White Blues Project, recording the albums 'In Our Time of Living' and 'In Our Time... Live.' Snowy's most recent album, 'The Situation' came out in 2018. His latest offering, 'Something on Me,' features Thomas White on drums, Rowan Bassett on bass and appearances by various The White Flames members.

Norma Tanega/Walkin' My Cat Named Dog [Remastered Expanded Version] ....CD $18.99
Now, here's a cult classic album long overdue for a proper CD reissue! Norma Tanega was discovered while singing to Catskill summer campers by producer Herb Bernstein, who brought her to Four Seasons songwriter Bob Crewe. Crewe signed her to his New Voice label, and success was instantaneous: the title song to Walkin' My Cat Named Dog went to #22 on the charts. But, despite the album's folk-pop trappings, Norma Tanega was not an artist destined to stay at the top of the charts for long; her voice was unconventional, and her songs were too idiosyncratic, not sticking to typical song structure or even meter (for example, 'No Stranger Am I' is set to a 5/4 time signature). In fact, Tanega's songs were so unusual that she had to hire session musicians to play them on the North American tour she took to support the album instead of her erstwhile back-up band The Outsiders! Upon returning, she then embarked on a British tour that was to change her life forever; there she met Dusty Springfield, and the two embarked on an artistic and romantic relationship that prompted Tanega to move to London for five years. After the pair broke up, Tanega wound up moving to California and shifted to playing percussion in more experimental settings, following the wayward muse that makes Walkin' My Cat Named Dog such an entrancing and unique listening experience to this day (in fact, the FX show What We Do in the Shadows uses 'You're Dead' for its theme song!) The previous CD release of this album came out in the late '90s and suffered from indifferent sound and packaging, not even showing the original album cover. Our Expanded and Remastered Edition adds two non-LP sides ('Bread' and 'Run, on the Run') to present Norma's complete New Voice recordings, all beautifully remastered (from hi-res digital files) by Mike Milchner of SonicVision and annotated by Richie Unterberger with added photos. A long-overdue digital tribute to the late, great Norma Tanega!

The Amorphous Androgynous & Peter Hammill/We Persuade Ourselves We Are Immortal ....import CD $19.99
The Amorphous Androgynous return with symphonic 40 minute progtronic space rock concept album We Persuade Ourselves We Are Immortal in 5 epic parts. Featuring Peter Hammill on vocals alongside a host of musicians including Paul Weller (piano and guitar), Ray Fenwick (lead guitar), Brian Hopper on sax, and many others including the 50 piece Chesterfield Philharmonic Choir and a 25 piece sumptuously recorded live orchestral string section. Opening with the 13 minute epic space prog rock of title track We Persuade Ourselves We Are Immortal (written with Peter Hammill and Paul Weller) the themes of mortality and immortality are then musically and conceptually catapulted to the far flung corners of the AA sonic multiverse over 40+ minutes utilizing choir, moog, a live orchestral string section, harp and vintage synth all fed against a backdrop of classic rock and psych samplerdelia of the Amorphous Androgynous. Space Odyssey like dystopian choirs and moog of Hymortality crash full force into the Led Zep Bonham-like drums of the Immortality Break while Synthony on a Theme of Mortality lives up to its name as an almost Vangelis Bladerunner-esque vintage synthony of some of the themes of the original track utilizing the classic '70s Yamaha CS80 synth before triumphantly soaring to lift off adrift a Pink Floyd-like female wailing aria against classic vintage guitar rock. Psych Recap is all backwards voices and guitars over pounding Tomorrow Never Knows-era Beatles bass and drums with dislocated Peter Hammill psychedelic vocals before the whole cosmic trip cascades finally into the harp daydream reverie and minimoog space landings, choir and french romantic strings of Physically I'm Here, Mentally Far, Far Away.

Albert Bouchard/Re Imaginos ....CD $16.99
For fans of Blue Oyster Cult, Blue Coupe, and Classic Rock! Albert Bouchard is best known as one of the founding members of Blue Oyster Cult. The original band sold millions of albums for Columbia Records with such classic songs as "Don't Fear the Reaper" and the #1 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart "Burning for You." As a songwriter, he wrote many BOC songs including the very popular "Astronomy" which was covered by Metallica on their 1998's release Garage Inc and the live staple "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll," which he also sang lead vocals. Today when not writing and recording in his home studio, he performs with several bands. His latest group, Blue Coupe, is a superstar combo which features his brother Joe Bouchard, also a founding member of BOC, and Dennis Dunaway, a founder of the Alice Cooper Group and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Re Imaginos sees Albert revisiting the 1988 Blue Oyster Cult album Imaginos, which was originally intended as his solo album. The album weaves scripts and poems by the late Sandy Pearlman, a concept album about an alien conspiracy that is brought to fruition during the late 19th and early 20th century through the actions of Imaginos, an agent of evil.

Cotatcha Orchestra/Bigbandova Elektronika ....CD $15.99
Fresh from Big Round Records comes the Cotatcha Orchestra's Bigbandova Elektronika/Bigband Electonics. As it's name suggests, this unprecedented album pairs original big band music with electronic music, concocting a sound-and perhaps even a brand new genre-that listeners have never heard before. Cotatcha Orchestra was the brainchild of trumpeter Jiri Kotaca. His founding mission was simple: play unusual and original big band music. From this seed grew the sound we hear today, a fascinating mix of jazz, Czech music, and electronic music. Rather than reaching for cheap novelty, however, Kotaca saw big band and electronic music as a natural combination. The latter element strengthens the band's music, expands their emotive range, and carries them into the modern era. The names and themes of the compositions are not run-of-the-mill, either; Sardanapalm, for example, combines the name of the last Assyrian king with the explosive agent napalm, positing a thoughtful yet apolitical observation of the west's involvement with the Middle East. The music is at once familiar and profoundly ethereal, combining muted jazz trumpet with an array of electronic sounds. Billy's Pilgrimage is a musical interpretation of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five, focusing on the main character, Billy. Piano and rhythmic elements, along with the airy, jazz-steeped voice of guest soloist Lenka Dusilova, form an interpretive soundtrack for Billy's story. And, of course, there's Very Old Lady Driving a Ferrari-a lighthearted musical imagining of an elderly speed-lover taking a summer drive in a sports car. Electric piano, drums, electronics, and an interjecting horn section put the listener firmly in the driver's seat for this exhilarating ride.

Culpeper's Orchard/Mountain Music - The Polydor Recordings 1970-1973 [Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....import 2 CD Set $23.99
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of a new re-mastered 2 CD set by legendary cult Danish progressive rock band Culpeper's Orchard, "Mountain Music - The Polydor Recordings 1971 - 1973." The band formed in Copenhagen in 1970 with an original line-up of Cy Nicklin (vocals, guitar), Niels Henriksen (lead guitar, piano), Michael Friis (bass, organ, flute) and Rodger Barker (drums, percussion). Englishman Nicklin had been living in Denmark since 1963 and had also recorded with Sandy Denny and the Strawbs whilst that act had been based in Copenhagen. In 1968 he had been a founder member of another legendary Danish band, Day of Phoenix, but had departed to form his own band with Danes Henriksen and Friis and English drummer Rodger Barker. Culpeper's Orchard signed to Polydor Records in Denmark and issued their self-titled debut album in March 1971. The album was a fine example of psychedelic, progressive rock, drawing on a myriad of diverse influences from rock, folk and the US West Coast bands of the time. The album gained a release throughout much of Europe and has subsequently earned it's place as a legendary psychedelic progressive album with original vinyl copies changing hands for three figure sums. Following this successful debut, the band recorded the album "Second Sight" in 1972, with drummer Ken Gudman (formerly with The Savage Rose) replacing Rodger Barker. The album was an equally fine work and took in more US West Coast acoustic influences as well as retaining a rock edge. Culpeper's Orchard performed regularly in Scandinavia on bills with many major artists, but the band's line-up would change once more by the time of their third and final album for Polydor, "Going for a Song," recorded in the autumn of 1972. Neils Henricksen departed and was replaced by Neils Vangkilde on guitar. Nils Tuxen was also recruited on pedal steel guitar and British drummer Tom McEwan replaced Ken Gudman. The album took in more influences from artists such as Crosby, Stills and Nash and earned critical praise but wasn't the wider breakthrough the band had hoped for. It would be the band's final album for Polydor records. A hiatus followed live performances the following year (which included an appearance at the Ragnarock Festival in Norway alongside acts such as the Pretty Things and Mungo Jerry). The band would record a final album in a different stylistic vein three years later, but their albums for Polydor, and in particular their debut, are those for which Culpeper's Orchard are most fondly remembered. This collection has been newly remastered and includes the band's three albums issued by Polydor along with four rare bonus tracks including two recorded at the 1973 Ragnarock festival. "Mountain Music - The Polydor Recordings" features an illustrated booklet with a new essay and exclusive new interviews with Cy Nicklin, Michael Friis, Tom McEwan and Neils Vangkilde.

"Our family got together and decided we would spread some joy with music in these trying times," shares John. "We recreated Cosmos Factory and it became Fogerty's Factory... my sons, daughter Kelsy, Julie and we even got Bob Fogerty to shoot the cover photo, a total family affair!"
Galahad Electric Company/When the Battle Is Over ....import CD $19.99
Avalon Records is proud to present an unexpected 2020 album by Galahad off shoot project the Galahad Electric Company. During these strange Covid times in which we have found ourselves over the last few months it appears that Dean Baker and Stu Nicholson have tapped in to a rich vein of creativity resulting in a substantial collection of new music and songs. Therefore, the time seemed right to re-activate the Galahad Electric Company for the first time in over 20 years resulting in When the Battle Is Over. Most of the album was written between the middle of May and the end of June 2020 and is split in to two distinct sections, the first part being Suite 2020 a self-explanatory and somewhat ironic title which consists of five linked tracks. The second half of the album consist of five separate tracks, somewhat diverse in nature. Also, due to more constraints than normal as far as the recording process was concerned a certain amount of experimentation was involved with some of the songs, a few of which were ad-libbed and written in an almost stream of consciousness manner! The end result is an eclectic mixture of music and songs, examples of which are an adaptation of a poem by the famous 19th Century Dorset dialect poet and friend of Thomas Hardy, William Barnes and even Stu's cat Sammy Gorgeous contributes 'meows' to 'Mysterioso.' There are also nods to dance, folk, ambient, krautrock and even opera and gospel influences, all scattered throughout.

Peter Green/Kolors ....import CD $15.99
Peter Green's songs with Fleetwood Mac, such as "Albatross," "Black Magic Woman," "Oh Well," "The Green Manalishi" and "Man of the World," appeared on the singles charts, and several have been adapted by a variety of musicians. Many rock guitarists have cited Peter Green as an influence, including Gary Moore, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Andy Powell of Wishbone Ash, Noel Gallagher and Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood. 'Kolors' includes fourteen original tunes from the pen of Mike and Peter Green, as well as the traditional "Same Old Blues." There's low down blues like "Liquor and You," "Bad Bad Feeling" and more funky stuff as "Black Woman" and "What Am I Doing Here" with Green's slippery, understated licks creeping up everywhere.
Gryphon/Get Out of My Father's Car! ....import CD $22.99
2020's Get Out of My Father's Car! is the seventh studio album from the legendary Gryphon. Original members Graeme Taylor, Brian Gulland and Dave Oberle are joined by virtuoso Andy Findon on clarinets, saxes and flutes, plus two new members, Rob Levy on bass guitar and Clare Taylor on violin and keyboards. All three new members have contributed compositions to Get Out of My Father's Car and the range of styles on the album is unprecedented in the history of this most eccentric of bands. It is almost impossible to pigeonhole Gryphon, recently reformed nearly 40 years after a very successful spell throughout the 1970s, which included extensive touring in the States and Europe with Yes, Steeleye Span and Mahavishnu Orchestra. They even appeared on BBC Radios 1, 2, 3 and 4, all in the same week! Gryphon stunned their faithful following four decades later in 2018 when they released their sixth studio album, ReInvention, to huge acclaim. Anyone who thought this was an isolated flash of brilliance now has another think coming as we announce a further brand-new release which proves to be every bit as unfathomably innovative and exciting. Continuing to display fine humour, it defies repetition in favour of seemingly constant streams of reinvention, perhaps even surpassing its predecessor in its richness.

Harmonia/Complete Works ....5 CD Box Set $44.99
Groenland present the definitive Harmonia box set collecting their groundbreaking debut, 'Musik von Harmonia' (1974), along with 'Deluxe' (1975), 'Live 1974,' their Harmonia & Eno '76 album 'Tracks and Traces,' and the previously unreleased 'Documents 1975' a collection of early live performances. The short-lived syzygy, extant from 1973 to 1976 and revolving three members - Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius of Cluster with Neu!'s Michael Rother - were responsible for a gentle but pivotal phase shift in German experimental music, and also on a wider scale within the world of new pop, rock and electronic music, thanks to the praise of David Bowie and Brian Eno - the latter of whom would join them for 'Tracks and Traces' as Harmonia & Eno '76. Their history remains one of the most storied of electronic music; a group of imaginative, innovative German composers seeking to make a new music guided by nature and the stars, accompanied by one of the greatest producers of their generation, Conny Plank, and all at an idyllic location in the countryside of Forst, Lower Saxony, next to the Weser River. From these lush conditions they vibed out, working with an arsenal of "mobile" recording gear (depicted in the accompanying booklet) to realize some of the most beautiful and influential records of the '70s, from the shimmering ambience of 'Musik Von...' thru the "pop" tone of 'Deluxe,' along the motorik trajectories of their 'Documents 1975' recordings, and back to space music with Eno in '76.

Iron Butterfly/Unconscious Power - An Anthology 1967-1971 [Remastered] ....import 7 CD Box Set $59.99
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of Unconcious Power - An Anthology 1967 - 1971, a newly remastered 7 CD boxed set featuring all of the albums and singles recorded by the legendary American acid / progressive rock band Iron Butterfly recorded for Atlantic's Atco label between 1967 and 1971 and additional recordings made at the Fillmore East in New York City in April 1968. Iron Butterfly first came together in San Diego, California in 1966 with a line-up of Doug Ingle (vocals, organ), Danny Weis (guitar), Greg Willis (bass), Jack Pinney (drums) and Darryl DeLoach (vocals). After performing in the San Diego area the band relocated to Los Angeles in search of a recording contract, with Willis soon departing to be replaced by Jerry Penrod on bass. Jack Pinney also departed and was eventually replaced by Ron Bushy. The band's psychedelic and acid rock style was honed during regular appearances at LA venues such as the Whisky a Go Go and the Galaxy Club, which saw Iron Butterfly develop a loyal following and led to the band signing with Atlantic's Atco label in 1967. In October that year the band recorded their debut album, Heavy, but the group would endure further line-up changes prior to its release as Jerry Penrod, Danny Weis and Darryl DeLoach departed soon after recording sessions were completed. Faced with the possibility of the album remaining unreleased, Ingle and Bushy recruited 17 year old guitarist Erik Brann and bassist Lee Dorman to the band. Heavy was released in January 1968, entering the US Billboard charts and eventually earning gold disc status. The album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, issued in June 1968, would break the band into star status. Dominated by the side long title track featuring the instrumental dexterity of the new line-up, it was a masterpiece of acid rock and reached a height of number 4 in the US charts and went on to sell a million copies. An edited version of the title track was issued as a single and reached the US top thirty. The band's third album, Ball, was released in January 1969 and was even more successful, reaching number 3 in the US and spawning the hit singles Soul Experience and In the Time of Our Lives. The band undertook a punishing touring schedule and a series on concerts were recorded in May 1969, finally to be issued as Live in April 1970. Erik Brann departed the band in December 1969 and was replaced by guitarist and vocalist Mike Pinera and additional guitarist Larry Reinhardt. This line-up would record the album Metamorphosis in May 1970 which saw the band take a heavier direction. The dominant track on the record was the excellent thirteen minute Butterfly Bleu which saw one of the earliest uses of a "talk box" on a guitar solo. Following a tour with Yes in early 1971, Doug Ingle announced his departure from the band. After releasing a final single, Silly Sally in April 1971, Iron Butterfly disbanded. Although they would reform in the mid-1970s and continue to perform and record sporadically afterwards, their recorded work for Atco Records remains their main legacy. Unconcious Power - An Anthology 1967 - 1971 features all of the albums issued on Atco, all newly re-mastered from the original master tapes, and additionally includes the rare mono mixes of the albums Heavy and Live, (the only true separate mono mixes of their albums), both previously unreleased on CD, along with two CDs of recordings made at the Fillmore East in New York City on the 26th and 27th April 1968. It also includes all of the band's US non-album singles and single edits and a lavishly illustrated booklet with a new essay featuring interviews with Ron Bushy and Mike Pinera and a poster.

|Dan Lacksman/Dan Lacksman ....CD $15.99||The Electronic System/Vol. II ....CD $15.99||The Electronic System/Tchip Tchip (Vol. 3) ....CD $15.99|
|Lacksman already had an album (Flamenco Moog) and a minor European hit ("Coconut") under his belt when he recorded 1973's Dan Lacksman, which is a true outlier in his catalog in that it features him on guitar (!) and voice (!!) along with his usual keyboard wizardry. As such, it's probably his most accessible record for those approaching his music from a strictly rock background. An early version of "Skylab" hints at the grand version to come on Tchip Tchip; some of the album sounds like a Belgian version of Steely Dan, and at times you might even hear a little early Eno/Robert Wyatt/Kevin Ayers prog punctuated by a couple of drinking songs. Overall, it's a progressive pop singersongwriter album and a bit of a trailblazer at that...which explains why original copies go for a mint.||While the first album Dan Lacksman recorded in 1973 was an atypical singer-songwriter foray, the second album from that year - credited to his pseudonym Electronic System - featured the full flowering of his synthesizer mastery. His hit recording "Coconut" had enabled him to buy a modular synthesizer, which offered a vastly expanded tonal palette - if you had the patience to re-wire for each sound you wanted to achieve. Which was the perfect set-up for a studio engineer like Lacksman...the result is an album full of sonic surprises, with each track presenting multiple, unique synthesizer tones and attacks, even on such nakedly commercial moves as his cover of Ritchie Valens' "La Bamba." An analog synth tour de force!||Pretty much all of Lacksman's '70s releases command a devout collector following, but none of them can measure up to the one he recorded in 1974 under the name Electronic System, Tchip Tchip (Vol. 3). While much of side one Tchip Tchip presents the composer's signature blend of synthesizer kitsch and boundary-breaking creativity, ranging from the oom-pah sound of the title track to the wacky "Spider," almost all of side two is devoted to the 14-minute "Sky Lab," which sounds like it came right off an Air record recorded 25 years later, with maybe a little Dark Side-era Pink Floyd thrown in. A true marvel, this track is why original copies of Tchip Tchip are downright unaffordable...it's not to be missed.|

Looking-Glass Lantern/World of Great Invention ....import CD $20.99
By the end of the Victorian era the world had become interconnected by technologies in a way that would have been unimaginable in the previous century. This album takes a musical look at the question "what did the Victorians do for us?" The eight songs consider a selection of inventions and new developments, and the changes these brought about in the day-to-day lives of ordinary people. There are songs about the affordable daily newspaper; the postage stamp; the bicycle; the department store; portrait photography; the demise of the tea clippers due to the advent of steamships; the industrialization of farming; and indoor domestic lighting. The album - the fourth from the Looking-Glass Lantern solo project - comes with a beautifully produced twenty-page booklet, the front cover of which symbolizes a world overrun with machinery. Dr Graham Dunnington holds a PhD in the history of the piano and music business in the Victorian era. Combined with a longstanding love of progressive rock, the outcome is the Looking-Glass Lantern project. Since it's inception, Looking-Glass Lantern has been steadily growing in popularity, with over 45,000 plays on internet radio and more than 3,000 followers on Twitter.
Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets/Live at the Roundhouse
Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets/Live at the Roundhouse ....2 CD + DVD $29.99
September release. "Live at the Roundhouse" is unlike any other concert film connected with Pink Floyd. It's the nearest thing you can get to a time machine, transporting you back to the very earliest days of the band. Nick Mason, the only band member to have played on all of Pink Floyd's studio albums, returns to the group's earliest records, joined in the line-up by Gary Kemp, Guy Pratt, Lee Harris and Dom Beken. Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets took the drummer back to clubs for the first time in 1967, then to theatres, across the UK, North America and Europe, playing only music his old band had recorded before The Dark Side of the Moon. Captured from the band's celebrated shows at London's Roundhouse, where Pink Floyd played some of their most revered early shows in the 1960s, the film features a uniquely thrilling setlist including songs hailing from Syd Barrett's time with the band. Only four songs from this eclectic roster have ever previously appeared on official live releases by Pink Floyd or its members. Everything else is being experienced for the first time since their original live performances.
Paul McCartney/McCartney III ....CD $15.99
Paul McCartney/McCartney III (180 Gram Vinyl, Gatefold LP Jacket) ....Vinyl LP $34.99
Paul McCartney/McCartney III (Colored Vinyl, White, Poster) ....Vinyl LP $34.99
Fifty years following the release of his self-titled first solo album McCartney, featuring Paul playing every instrument and writing and recording every song, Paul McCartney will release McCartney III. Paul hadn't planned to release an album in 2020, but in the isolation of "Rockdown," he soon found himself fleshing out some existing musical sketches and creating even more new ones. Before long an eclectic collection of spontaneous songs would become McCartney III: a stripped back, self-produced and, quite literally, solo work marking the opening of a new decade, in the tradition of 1970's McCartney and 1980's McCartney II. Recorded earlier this year in Sussex, McCartney III is mostly built from live takes of Paul on vocals and guitar or piano, overdubbing his bass playing, drumming, etc. Atop that foundation. McCartney III spans a vast and intimate range of modes and moods, from soul searching to wistful, from playful to raucous and all points between - captured with some of the same gear from Paul's Rude Studio used as far back as 1971 Wings sessions. And Paul's array of vintage instruments he played on the new album have an even more storied history, including Bill Black of Elvis Presley's original trio's double bass alongside Paul's own iconic Hofner violin bass, and a mellotron from Abbey Road Studios used on Beatles recordings, to name but a few. Just as McCartney's 1970 release marked Paul's return to basics in the wake of the biggest band break-up in musical history, and the 1980 avant-garde masterpiece McCartney II rose from the ashes of Wings, McCartney III finds Paul back on his own, turning unexpected circumstances into a personal snapshot of a timeless artist at a unique point in history.
Steve Miller Blues Band/Live from the Fillmore West 1968 ....import CD $15.99
The multi-talented and now venerable rock and roll Elder Statesman Steve Miller has steered an engrossing path through rock music, in a career that goes right back to his pre-teens in the 1950s to the present day. His career has been earmarked by moments where he has struck commercial high water marks with international hit singles such as 'The Joker,' 'Rock 'n' Me,' 'Take the Money and Run,' and 'Abracadabra,' but he has also released music that has excited positive critical appraisal - albums such as his 1968, London-recorded Children of the Future, through albums such as the second effort, Sailor, both examples of where he blended his blues-rock roots with elements of psychedelia. His third album, Brave New World, featured one of his first songs which created a character that defined him at that point - 'Space Cowboy,' a sobriquet he would later make reference to in his hit single, The Joker. However, he also moved with the times, and although primarily a cultured lead guitarist, his music has, at various times, incorporated the extended use of synthesisers, as well as taken advantage of studio and production innovations, rarely to the detriment of his overall likeable qualities. At heart, though, the blues has always been at the core of his music. This gritty live recording takes us back to the San Francisco of late 1968, when the bloom of the Summer of Love had long since wilted, but the restless churn and change of contemporary rock and roll was in full effect.

Latimer's guitar work can also be heard on the bonus track, 'Masquerade Solo.'

Pinder Brothers/Melancholy Sea ....CD $15.99
The Pinder Brothers' new 'Melancholy Sea' makes waves with sing-a-long melodies and crafty alt-rock rrrangements. Sons of Moody Blues founding member Mike Pinder carry on the tradition, as their own SoCal followers continue to burgeon. The Pinder Brothers may not be the first pair of siblings to proffer an intrinsic fusion of vocal harmonies, but add to the mix crafty sing-a-long melodies and enough of a rock edge to engage the masses. That is the musical mantra of these brothers in arms' third full-length release "Melancholy Sea." Of course, the many current fans of Matthew and Michael Lee are already aware of one other essential factor. Let's call it pedigree. Their dad Mike Pinder was a founding member of the legendary Moody Blues, who not only fulfilled the enduring band's mellotron duties, but also contributed harmony vocals. The Pinder Brothers mesh the harmonies of Crosby, Stills and Nash alongside the songwriting style of Simon & Garfunkel, and ultimately add their own modern spin. Listeners will hear all of this and more in "Melancholy Sea," which the pair wrote, played and arranged. The project's masterfully penned lyrics create a sonic tapestry that dazzles the ear....much like the colors of a seashell inspire the eye. The brothers' voices harmonize beautifully, accompanied by arrangements that deftly ease from a bed of crunchy electric guitars into warm overdriven tones that layer as naturally as sheets and a blanket. It could be said that The Pinder Brothers have '60s Brit-rock heritage in their DNA, with a healthy dose of California style thrown in. Hailing from Northern California, Matt and Michael Pinder grew up playing music and performing together whenever possible. How could they not, with the sounds of the lost chord echoing softly in their ears. Thankfully, Mike Pinder's innate talent has been passed on to his sons - who are now creating their own legacy.

Pink Floyd/Delicate Sound of Thunder [Deluxe Edition] ....2 CD + DVD + Blu-Ray Box Set $85.99
Pink Floyd/Delicate Sound Of Thunder [180 Gram Vinyl, With Booklet, Download Insert] ....3 Vinyl LP Set $72.99
The first break out package from the Pink Floyd 'The Later Years' set, Delicate Sound of Thunder, has been remixed, restored and re-edited on DVD and Blu-Ray. Alongside the full concert film (restored and re-edited from the original 35mm film and enhanced with 5.1 surround sound), included in The Later Years box set, the DVD and Blu-Ray features a 24-page photo booklet. In 1987, Pink Floyd made a triumphant resurgence. The legendary British band, formed in 1967, had suffered the loss of two co-founders: keyboardist / vocalist Richard Wright, who left after sessions for The Wall in 1979, and bass player and lyricist Roger Waters, who had left to go solo in 1985, soon after the 1983 album The Final Cut. The gauntlet was thus laid down for guitarist/singer David Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason, who proceeded to create the multi-platinum A Momentary Lapse of Reason album, a global chart smash, which also saw the return of Richard Wright to the fold. Originally released in September 1987, A Momentary Lapse of Reason was quickly embraced by fans worldwide, who flocked to attend the live tour dates, which started within days of the album's release. The tour played to more than 4.25 million fans over more than two years, and, as a celebration of the enduring talent and global appeal of Pink Floyd, was unsurpassed at the time. Filmed at Long Island's Nassau Coliseum in August 1988 and directed by Wayne Isham, the 2020 release of the Grammy Award nominated Delicate Sound of Thunder is sourced directly from over 100 cans of original 35mm negatives, painstakingly restored and transferred to 4K, and completely re-edited by Benny Trickett from the restored and upgraded footage, under the creative direction of Aubrey Powell/Hipgnosis. Similarly, the sound was completely remixed from the original multitrack tapes by longtime Pink Floyd engineer Andy Jackson with Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, assisted by Damon Iddins. Pink Floyd's stellar supporting cast for the live dates included: Jon Carin (Keyboards, Vocals), Tim Renwick (Guitars, Vocals), Guy Pratt (Bass, Vocals), Gary Wallis (Percussion), Scott Page (Saxophones, Guitar), Margret Taylor (Backing Vocals), Rachel Fury (Backing Vocals) and Durga McBroom (Backing Vocals). The setlist carefully balances the then-new material and Pink Floyd classics, including songs from The Dark Side of the Moon ("Time," "On The Run," "The Great Gig in the Sky" and "Us and Them"), the anthemic title track of Wish You Were Here, The Wall's "Comfortably Numb" and a cathartic "Run Like Hell." As a record of the creative power of David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright at their incendiary best, Pink Floyd's Delicate Sound of Thunder is an engrossing and uplifting event, to be enjoyed by any rock music fan. 2-CD includes 8 tracks more than its original release. Blu-ray: Stereo PCM 96/24 / DVD: Stereo PCM 48/16. Deluxe Box includes 2-CD (23 Songs), Blu-ray (21 songs inc. 5 Bonus Tracks), DVD (21 songs inc. 5 Bonus Tracks), 40-Page Booklet, Double Sided Poster, 5 Postcards.

Rhinoceros/The Elektra Albums 1968-1970 [Remastered Edition] ....import 3 CD Set $29.99
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of a newly re-mastered 3 CD set featuring all the albums recorded by Rhinoceros for Elektra Records between 1968 and 1970. The concept of Rhinoceros was a suggestion of celebrated producer Paul A. Rothchild (The Doors, Love, Butterfield Blues Band etc.). Because of his recent success with The Doors, Rothchild was given the freedom by Elektra founder Jac Holzman to suggest projects he felt had merit. With fellow producer Frazier Mohawk (who had been involved with Buffalo Springfield), he decided to assemble a new band from scratch, selecting some of the finest musicians in the Los Angeles area. Following a series of auditions, Rhinoceros came together to rehearse and record their debut album with a line-up of vocalist John Finley (ex-Jon & Lee & the Checkmates), guitarist Danny Weis (a founder member of Iron Butterfly), keyboard player Michael Fonfara (ex-Electric Flag), guitarist Danny Hastings (briefly involved with Buffalo Springfield), keyboard player & vocalist Alan Gerber, bassist Jerry Penrod and drummer Billy Mundi (once with The Mothers of Invention). Despite the manner in which they came together, Rhinoceros proved to be a fine band, absorbing rock, blues and soul influences and their self-titled debut album (produced by Paul Rothchild) appeared in 1968 to good reviews. The band began to tour the USA and attracted a steady growing following. In 1969 the band recorded the album Satin Chickens, another fine example of groove-based rock with psychedelic and soul influences. By this time Jerry Penrod had departed nto be replaced by Peter Hodgson. The album gained enough traction for the band to be asked to perform at the legendary Woodstock Festival in August 1969, only for their management to reject the offer to appear without the band's knowledge. When the impact of this decision was realized morale with the band suffered and they underwent further line-up changes for their third and final album Better Times Are Coming (issued in 1970). This re-mastered 3 CD set gathers together for the first time the three albums Rhinoceros recorded for Elektra Records and features an illustrated booklet with exclusive new interviews with John Finley and Danny Weis and serves as a fine tribute to an unfairly overlooked band, who were a part of the American rock scene of the late 1960s.

Suzzy Roche and her daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche shed some light on our troubled times on their third collaboration, I Can Still Hear You. Each of their albums together have documented a specific time and this one, according to Suzzy, 'probably is the darkest, but at the same time, it's the most fanciful too. This time, there seemed an extra urgency about it.'

Scope/Scope ....import CD $18.99
Scope/Scope II ....import CD $18.99
The predecessor band of Scope was called Strange Power and was founded around 1969 in Zwolle, Holland. Rik Elings, Henk Zomer (drums) and bassist Erik Raayman had founded the fusion project and had already released a 7" single that was added to the first Scope CD as a bonus. With the entry of guitarist Rens Nieuwland in 1972, Strange Power became Scope. Subsequently, the Dutch jazz rock foursome made a name for itself in both Holland and Germany. A talent scout from WEA / Atlantic became aware of the band and hired them for his label. In 1973 the band entered the Hamburg studio Maschen to record their debut album "Scope" under the direction of Jochen Petersen. The result was an exciting, varied fusion / jazz rock album, which contained a lot of improvisations and perfectly reflected the craftsmanship of the four musicians. The press was thrilled and Scope went back on the streets to present the new album live. In 1974 Erik Raayman left the band, but the band continued with a surprising plan. Multi-instrumentalist Rik Elings left his place behind the keyboards with Rob Franken and took over the four-string. A wise decision, because Rob Franken was one of the best and most famous jazz pianists in Holland. With this line-up, they returned to Studio Maschen in September 1974 to record the follow-up album "Scope II" for WEA. Like the debut, the album is a unique funk / fusion delicacy record, and Scope has become a real insider tip of the international jazz rock scene. Despite (or because of) the major deal, large record sales did not happen. After numerous changes in the line-up it came to an end in 1976. The further history of the involved musicians can be wonderfully read in the booklets for "Scope" and "Scope II."

Al Stewart/24 Carrots [40th Anniversary Edition] ....import 3 CD Set $28.99
Esoteric Recordings is proud to announce the release of a newly re-mastered and expanded 3 CD 40th Anniversary edition of the classic album 24 Carrots by Al Stewart. Released in 1980, the album came on the heels of a series of highly successful albums Year of the Cat and Time Passages, which saw the legendary folk-rock musician reach a wider audience and, after adopting a more rock orientated approach, gain top ten success in the USA where he had relocated. For the album 24 Carrots he worked with the musicians in the band Shot in the Dark featuring his musical collaborator Peter White (keyboards, guitar), Adam Yurman (electric guitar), Robin Lamble (bass, guitar), Krysia Kristianne (backing vocals), Brian Savage (saxophone, flute), Robin Marlette (keyboards) and various drummers including Steve Chapman and Jeff Porcaro. It also featured a guest appearance by Robin Williamson (Incredible String Band). Sessions for the album began at Davlen studios in Los Angeles in August 1979 where Al worked with Shot in the Dark on a series of demos of some compositions that would make up the album, and others which would remain consigned to the vaults. When completed in May 1980 the album would feature classic tracks such as 'Running Man,' 'Merlin's Time,' 'Murmansk Run - Ellis Island' and the US top thirty hit single 'Midnight Rocks.' Upon its release in August 1980, 24 Carrots would be another American Top Forty hit and would also be a success in other European countries. This 40th anniversary edition of 24 Carrots has been newly expanded from the original first-generation master tapes and includes two rare single mixes previously unreleased on CD and two additional CDs featuring the August 1979 Davlen studios demo sessions (including an early studio version of The World Goes to Riyadh) and a CD of live recordings made at Hammersmith Odeon in London in December 1980 on the 24 Carrots tour. The release also includes an illustrated booklet with an exclusive new interview with Al Stewart. This 40th anniversary edition serves as a fine tribute to a fine album and a consummate songwriter and performer.

Sun Ra/Egypt 1971 ....4 CD Set $29.99
Like countless others, the young Alabamian prodigy Herman Blount (later reborn as Sun Ra) had been awed and beguiled by the archaeological discoveries of the early 20th Century around the Nile delta that, once again, thrust ancient Egyptian history and culture into the popular consciousness of the day. Music was Blount's first and abiding passion but, as a young man, he was also a voracious reader, spending hours in the Magic City's libraries, poring over tomes documenting world history, Egyptology, poetry and numerous other subjects.
Sun Ra/Fireside Chat with Lucifer ....CD $15.99
Digitally remastered edition. An F-bomb saturated hip-hop call and response club cut... from Sun Ra?! While the most renown track in this omniversal opus is the atomic expletive-filled repartee Nuclear War, there is so much more to this dark mysterious journey through the mind of Sun Ra. The sprawling, suite-like 20-minute title track sustains a lyrical edge in spite of an open framework and textures, which encourage sonorities to surface and emerge from the band as if there was no human intention behind them. In opposition to 'Nuclear War,' Ra's organ playing here was built less on bombast and sonic terror than it is on whispers, stutters, shivers, and swells. Fireside Chat offers a wide stylistic array, as was the artist's intent, reflecting his eclectic, seemingly irreconcilable approach to compositional extremes. With Sun Ra you get everything... except predictability. First ever reissue of this iconic album!

Tangerine Dream/Sessions III ....import CD $20.99
In their imperial years of the 1970s, Tangerine Dream's live concerts were an electronic exploration, improvised and different every night, with little or no relationship to their smash hit albums, which were similarly esoteric. As the 1980s dawned, their recorded work contained more recognizable themes and they scored some of the biggest films of the decade (Risky Business, Firestarter, Near Dark, Thief, Sorcerer).
Tangerine Dream/The Sessions VI ....import CD $17.99
The Sessions VI EP contains a long instant live composition from the current Tangerine Dream line-up Thorsten Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss, Hoshiko Yamane and new TD member Paul Frick. This live session was recorded at the RBB Sendesaal in Berlin (November 3, 2018) during the Elektro Beats Festival organized by Radio Eins. Tangerine Dream are very much enjoying their new respectively revived concept of performing a so-called real time composition session at the end of their concerts. We hope that you will enjoy this spontaneous and exceptional live track - inspired by the location and a great festival audience as well.
Trees/Trees ....4 CD Set $47.99
It's now over fifty years since Trees' formation and, although 'acid folk' has now become a sub-category in the lexicon of record dealers and music critics, and although founder member David Costa feels the original noughties reissue helped consolidate a gathering wave of curiosity, they themselves remain in the shadows. Earth's new Trees collection brings together both albums adding shiny alternate mixes of key tracks along with a selection of radio sessions and demos, all sounding brighter and cleaner than ever before. Trees first album, 'The Garden of Jane Delawney' (1970) snuggles nicely into contemporary nu-folkies' idea of the genre, and shares some of the pastoral-whimsy that characterised The Incredible String Band or Donovan, offset by some stunning interpretations of traditional material and Bias' own songs, which were somehow part of the tradition Trees had adopted. Readings of 'Lady Margaret,' 'Glasgerion' and the old standard 'She Moved thro' the Fair,' and the extended fade of the group's own 'Road,' presage the explosive instrumental duelling that would come to characterize the follow-up album, 'On the Shore.' There's a definite shift between the records, the second being darker and more ambivalent. Here Trees don't tell you what to think. You're left to formulate your own response to this odd, opaque music. The 'Streets of Derry' session version leans into the brain vibrating drone-groove they somehow found at the traditional tune's centre. 'Polly on the Shore,' another traditional tune, is one of the definitive moments of English folk-rock.
Various Artists/Cafe Exil: New Adventures in European Music 1972-1980 ....import CD $17.99
When David Bowie and Iggy Pop relocated from LA to continental Europe, taking trains to Berlin, Paris and Warsaw, they would have come across new music that was very different to the burgeoning disco scene they left behind. "Cafe Exil" - named after one of Bowie's favourite Berlin haunts - imagines the soundtrack that would have informed "Low," "Heroes" and "Lodger." It's an awesome mix of electronica, Krautrock and experimental treats. There are key tracks from members of Can and Tangerine Dream, fascinating obscurities by German act Streetmark and Italian library maestro Piero Umiliani, the Herzog-soundtracking Popul Vuh, and highly collectible avant-strangeness by Annette Peacock. Czech-born Jan Hammer's beautiful, light, atmospheric groove is among myriad surprises. Also Rubba, Focus, Amon Duul II, Steve Hillage, Faust, Michael Rother, Toni Esposito, Brian Eno, Soft Machine, Cortex and Cluster. "Cafe Exil" has been put together by Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley and Jason Wood, author of multiple books on cinema and programmer at Home in Manchester. It fits in with other recent Ace compilations such as "English Weather" and "76 In The Shade" - it creates a mood, a time and a place. You're right there, sat next to Bowie, drinking his Pernod and black, in a darkly lit Berlin bar.

Various Artists/Teil 1 Kraut!: Die Innovativen Jahre Des Krautrock 1968-1979 ....import 2 CD Set $36.99
Progressive Rock from Germany! Never before has there been a comparable compilation! Towards the end of the 1960s, German bands began their first attempts to emancipate themselves stylistically from their US and British role models. Progrock and psychedelia from our country were initially smiled at internationally and disparagingly called 'Krautrock' by cult DeeJay John Peel, among others. Unorthodox formations could not be pigeonholed, and so a scene with a wide musical range was created. With the release of the first of a total of four issues, Bear Family marks another milestone on the way to a comprehensive documentation of the history of popular music in Germany from the early 1960s to the mid-1980s. With 'Kraut! Die innovativen Jahre des Krautrock 1968-1979' we will release a double CD every three months in 2020 with a booklet of about 100 pages and biographies of each band, an exquisite selection of the exciting and influential bands of those days, some of which caused a sensation far beyond Germany.
