King Crimson/The Elements Tour Box 2021 ....2 CD Box Set $24.99
This on-going tour box series continues the opportunity to present King Crimson's music in slightly unexpected ways and, hopefully, to shed some new light on the band and it's music along the way. For this 2021 compilation, and perhaps appropriately for a band that has sported a three drummer line-up seated at the front of the stage since 2014, disc one features tracks which showcase KC's rich history of drummers and percussionists, while Sid Smith's liner notes also focus on the drummers. Disc two takes a slightly more song based detour through all eras of Crim history ending, as concerts have since 2014, with Starless. Both discs feature plenty of historic material and lots of live material by the current band and both also feature a sneak exclusive track/edit from the forthcoming, much anticipated, Robert Fripp "Exposures" multi-disc boxed set.

Paul McCartney/McCartney III Imagined ....CD $15.99
Hailed upon it's release last year as "vital and comfortable taking new chances" (Rolling Stone) and "cheery, resilient, forever looking forward" (The New Yorker), Paul McCartney's McCartney III, which topped album charts around the world, is now literally moving into the future in the form of McCartney III Imagined. Personally curated by Paul, McCartney III Imagined features an A-List assortment of friends, fans and brand new acquaintances, each covering and/or reimagining their favorite McCartney III moments in their own signature styles. The result is a kaleidoscopic reinterpretation of an album Rolling Stone accurately tagged "an inspiration to us all"-one that serves as an extension of the instantly beloved McCartney III while standing on it's own as a brilliant and adventurous milestone in the McCartney discography.
Steve Howe/Homebrew 7 ....import CD $19.99
Yes guitarist Steve Howe has announced he is to release the seventh edition of his Homebrew album series on via HoweSound. Homebrew 7 marks the 25th anniversary of the guitar legend's first album in his Homebrew collection. The Homebrew series typically features recordings from Steve Howe's home archive of demos and tracks, originally recorded for one of his many solo or group projects with Yes, Asia, ABWH or GTR. Homebrew 7 differs slightly as none of the tracks have previously been released in any form and there are no plans for any to be rerecorded in the future. "Many are things I've enjoyed saving until the right moment," says Howe, "and the Homebrew series allows this. Some tracks have matured with my nurturing but others have been recently rediscovered." This collection includes tracks from the late seventies through to 2016 in Howe's extensive range of playing styles. Each of the 21 tracks is dated and accompanied by Howe's background notes and details on instrumentation. Most of the tracks are Howe's solo recordings with occasional contributions from Dylan Howe and Virgil Howe on drums with Phil Spalding on bass guitar (Half Way). The booklet includes the lyrics for the four vocal tracks and is also illustrated by some of Howe's delightfully atmospheric photography.
Sky/The Complete Studio Albums 1979 - 1987 ....import 7 CD + DVD Box Set $39.99
2021 Esoteric repress. UK eight disc (seven CDs + NTSC/Region 0 DVD) set. The Studio Albums 1979 - 1987 is a clamshell box set that gathers together all seven studio albums released by the legendary classical rock band Sky over a nine year period. Formed in 1979, Sky brought together the worlds of rock and classical music in a highly successful and inspiring way. Featuring the gifted talents of guitarist John Williams, percussionist Tristan Fry, legendary bass player Herbie Flowers, former Curved Air keyboard player Francis Monkman and guitarist Kevin Peek, Sky recorded their debut album at Abbey Road studios in the early months of 1979. The band's self-titled debut reached the UK top ten in May 1979 and went on to achieve platinum status in the UK and was also a major hit in Europe and Australia. Also, a huge live attraction, Sky released their second album in April 1980. Sky 2 was a fine achievement, featuring the hit single 'Toccata,' and topped the UK album charts upon it's release. For the band's third album, Steve Gray replaced Francis Monkman on keyboards, but the band continued their run of success as Sky 3 reached the UK Top Ten upon it's release in March 1981. The albums Sky 4 and Cadmium continued the run of best-selling albums, following which John Williams departed the band in December 1983. In March 1985, the album The Great Balloon Race was recorded in Australia and the UK, becoming another hit album. In 1987, they recorded their final album, which saw Sky arrange pieces composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart featured the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields conducted by Sir Neville Marriner and earned the group their highest ever US chart placing upon release. DVD contains Sky - Live In Nottingham 1990, a performance recorded for Central Television on the 24th June 1990.
Trifecta/Fragments ....CD $16.99
We are delighted to be able to announce that Trifecta have joined the Kscope family. Trifecta features three of the contemporary music scene's most lauded and revered musicians - bassist and songwriter Nick Beggs, keyboardist extraordinaire Adam Holzman and completing the line-up, Craig Blundell - one of the world's most celebrated drummers. Having performed together as part of Steven Wilson's band, the three would jam together after soundchecks, forming what they referred to as "jazz club" and from these sessions the fledgling ideas for Trifecta were nurtured, Nick Beggs comments "so after the last tour with Steven finished, we had a handful of tracks ready to work on and as we moved through our various separate projects we agreed to work on Trifecta." Asked what fans of the musicians can expect from Trifecta he states "Fission! It's like Fusion but less efficient and more dangerous..., however, on hearing the record, my wife said, this is the worst thing she ever heard." We can't wait for you to hear it and see what you think! The record primarily operates in a jazz rock territory, and is wholly instrumental except for the first single, Pavlov's Dog Killed Schrodinger's Cat, the lyrics of which, Beggs states, "Are written from the perspective of a layman trying to understand quantum mechanics...and failing!"
Miles Davis/Live Under the Sky '87 ....import CD $28.99
At the time of this performance Miles Davis was on his final lap but he was still utterly unique. Stalking the stage in futuristic Issey Miyake couture, his red lacquered trumpet poised for action. Kenny Garrett's searing alto sax and Foley's lead bass share solo duties but the rhythm section take the honours here. Miles was renowned for his determination to keep moving forwards and in this band Ricky 'Sugarfoot' Wellman's go-go beat and Darryl 'The Munch' Jones' high energy playing drive the music forwards relentlessly. No other band has ever sounded like this. In 1987 Miles was still playing funk and rock the be-bop way. Performed on 25th July, 1987 at Yomiuri Land Open Theatre East, Tokyo, Japan and broadcast by NHK-FM.
Chick Corea/Live Under the Sky... '79 ....import CD $27.99
Two years after the demise of Return to Forever, virtuoso fusioneers Chick Corea and Al Di Meola are joined on stage by legendary drummer Tony Williams and fretless bass wunderkind Bunny Brunel. The set, mainly of Corea compositions, also features All Blues, a tributes to his former employer Miles Davis. The band is tight, the solos are state-of-the-art and the Live Under the Sky crowd are very enthusiastic. Performed at the Den-en Coliseum, Tokyo on the 27th of July 1979 and originally broadcast by NHK-FM.
Oregon/1974 ....2 CD Set $22.99
1st Time Ever available! Oregon, formed in 1970, comprised Ralph Towner (classical and 12-string guitars), Paul McCandless (oboe and English horn), Glen Moore (double bass) and Collin Walcott (sitar and tabla). The band's music has always been almost totally acoustic. 'Acoustic instruments sound more expressive to me,' Towner explained to Jazzwise magazine (UK) in September 1997. He further explained his guitar style: 'With classical guitar [you're] using all the fingers of your right hand to pluck which means you can be sounding anything from two to five notes in exact unison, rather than a strum.' As well as their core instruments, Towner has played trumpet, synths and piano with the band, McCandless bass clarinet and flute, Moore flute and violin and Walcott clarinet and dulcimer, to name but some. "At one time we were carrying eighty instruments on the road!" McCandless has said. The combining of instruments from disparate musical traditions and the musicians' range of influences meant that 'jazz' was always an inadequate label for the band. 'Live in Bremen 1974' documents Oregon at their mesmerizing best. The interplay between the four players is stunning and on each piece mood and texture are ever-changing, yet always following an aesthetic logic that seems irrefutable. 'Live in Bremen 1974,' however, is a reminder of a band that made music that had never been heard before, that had never been imagined before. One track is titled 'Brujo,' Spanish for 'sorcerer.' Truly, Towner, McCandless, Moore and Walcott were musical sorcerers whose playing retains it's power to enchant not only the band's original fans but even, surely, anyone lucky enough to be hearing the band for the very first time.
Sun Ra/Lanquidity ....2 CD Set $18.99
Strut present the definitive edition of Sun Ra's classic Lanquidity album from 1978 with brand new 4LP box set and 2CD editions. Recorded overnight at Bob Bank's Blank Tapes on 17th July 1978 after the Arkestra had appeared on Saturday Night Live, the album is unique in the Ra catalogue. "Most critics felt that it was more of a fusion-inspired record," explains Michael Ray. "As the name suggests, the album is liquid and languid." Bob Blank continues, "Musically, it was very ad hoc and freeform. There were horn charts but most tracks came out of improvised jams. Sun Ra just did his thing."
Marillion/With Friends at St. David's ....Blu-Ray
Marillion/With Friends at St. David's ....2 CD Set $17.99
Marillion/With Friends at St. David's ....DVD $18.99
It all started with the release of "With Friends from the Orchestra" in 2019, when Marillion teamed up with "In Praise of Folly," a string quartet accompanied by French horn and flute, to record a stunning album full of re-arranged Marillion treasures. That same year, Marillion took these very special versions on tour and even added a few more songs like "Gaza" and "Zeparated Out" to the setlist, presenting them in a whole new light. "With Friends at St David's" is not only a visually and sonically remarkable live album, but also a dedication to crossing musical boundaries and making "friends" outside of one genre and musical universe. The DVD and Blu-ray of this release offer even more, as they come with the previously unreleased documentary "Making Friends," which shows Marillion in the studio during the making of "With Friends from the Orchestra."
Big Big Train/Common Ground ....import CD $24.99
The new studio album from the award winning Big Big Train is the follow up to 2019's acclaimed Grand Tour album and 2020's Empire live Blu-ray/2CD set. The nine tracks include the beautiful title track and first single Common Ground, dazzling instrumental Apollo, Zeitgeist capturing The Strangest Times and stunning 15 minute epic Atlantic Cable. In addition to Big Big Train songwriters and core members David Longdon (lead vocals), Gregory Spawton (bass), Rikard Sjoblom (guitars, keyboards, vocals) and Nick D'Virgilio (drums, vocals), the album also features Carly Bryant (keyboards, vocals) and Dave Foster (guitars) plus a guest appearance from violinist Aidan O'Rourke of highly rated Scottish folk pioneers Lau. The album was recorded during 2020 at Peter Gabriel's Real World studios as well as in other studios in the UK, the USA and Sweden. Common Ground will be supported by tours of North America and the UK in early 2022.
Alan Parsons/The Time Machine ....import CD $15.99
Sounding like a combination of the Alan Parsons Project of the '70s with a dash of Pink Floyd, "The Time Machine" is an aural experience sure to please fans of Parsons, New Age and Electronica. The album opens with the instrumental "The Time Machine (Part 1)," written by Cockney Rebel drummer/composer Stuart Elliott (later Al Stewart and Kate Bush a.o.), which resembles the way the Project's album used to open. There's the mellow song "Out of the Blue," with lead vocals by Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet. "Ignorance Is Bliss" is one of the most beautiful songs with vocals from former Zombies lead-singer Colin Blunstone. Alan Parsons again uses the concept album formula successful with "Time Machine."
The Art of Noise/Noise in the City: Live in Tokyo 1986 ....import CD $22.99
'Noise in the City' is a new live album by the British sample pioneers The Art of Noise. Released 35 years after the band first played in Japan, the album contains a complete concert from Tokyo's Nihon Seinenkan recorded in August 1986. Highlights include 'Peter Gunn,' 'Legs,' 'Paranoimia,' and the first-ever release of 1986 live renditions of 'Eye of a Needle' and 'In the Mood.' On stage are Anne Dudley and JJ Jeczalik with Dave Bronze on bass, Simon Moreton on percussion, Paul Robinson on drums, and The Noisettes (Katie Humble, Pepe Lemer, and Linda Taylor) on vocals. This CD was made possible when Anne Dudley, JJ Jeczalik, and Gary Langan returned to Tokyo for live dates in 2017. They found that the 1986 concert had been recorded for FM radio broadcast and music journalist Ian Peel (who wrote the liner notes and had joined the band on the 2017 tour), tracked down the original multitrack master tapes to a vault in London. The recordings were mixed this year by Gary Langan, and the rest is history. This live album beautifully represents The Art of Noise's mid-Eighties Visible Silence tour, while also perfectly documenting one of their first concerts in Tokyo. This is the first time 'Noise in the City' is released on CD.
Third Ear Band/Mosaics: Albums 1969-1972 ....import 3 CD Set $41.99
Third Ear Band was one of the earliest signings to EMI's Progressive imprint, Harvest Records. The band was formed in 1968 around a nucleus of Glen Sweeney (percussion), Paul Minns (oboe), Richard Coff (violin, viola) and Mel Davis (cello). Third Ear Band were unique in their exploration of exotic baroque music fused with experimental rock. Signing to Blackhill Enterprises in 1969, the quartet opened for many of the legendary Hyde Park free concerts by Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and Blind Faith. Their debut album, "Alchemy," released in July 1969, was championed by legendary DJ John Peel and is regarded as one of the most striking and original works of the era with its unique gothic improvisational music. The band's self-titled second album was released in June 1970 and saw Ursula Smith replace Mel Davis on cello. 'Third Ear Band' gained good reviews in the underground music press, but the group was always fluid with their line-ups and Ursula Smith and Richard Coff departed the band in September 1970 to be replaced by Ben Cartland and Paul Buckmaster. Cartland soon departed and Denim Bridges was recruited on electric guitar along with former High Tide member Simon House on violin and VCS 3 synthesizer. This line-up of the group were approached by film director Roman Polanski to write and record the soundtrack to his gritty film adaption of Shakespeare's "Macbeth." The darkly evocative and eerie music of Third Ear Band fitted perfectly with Roman Polanski's cinematic vision of the acclaimed Shakespearian drama which starred Jon Finch, Francesca Annis and Martin Shaw. In March 1972 the soundtrack album Music from Macbeth was released on Harvest, but it would be the band's final album. Mosaics - The Albums 1969-1972 gathers together the three Third Ear Band albums released by Harvest in a clamshell box and is the ideal introduction to the band and their uniquely haunting and evocative music.
Colin Scot/Colin Scot [Remastered Expanded Edition] ....import CD $21.99
2021 Esoteric repress. Colin Scot (real name Colin Thistlewaite) was an innovative song-writer who began his career playing the London folk clubs. He came to the attention of United Artists records in 1970 and recorded his only album for the label in early 1971 at Trident studios with producer John Anthony which many years later was rightly described by Record Collector magazine as "a genuine lost classic." It is perhaps widely known from featuring an impressive cast of guest musicians who participated in the recording sessions, all of whom appreciated Scot's talent as a musician. Featuring Robert Fripp, Rick Wakeman, Jon Anderson, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Davey Johnstone, Linda Hoyle and members of Van der Graaf Generator, Lindisfarne and Rare Bird, 'Colin Scot' contained some fine and beautiful music such as the exquisite "Take Me Away," "Do the Dance Now, Davey" and "The Boatman" along with the magnificent "Nite People." Although a fine debut, in one of the great injustices of fate the album did not achieve the commercial success it most certainly deserved. Scot departed United Artists in 1972. He signed to Warner Bros. in 1973 and recorded a further two albums, but commercial success still eluded him and Scot concentrated on performing in folk clubs in the UK and Europe, settling in Amsterdam. He sadly passed away in 1999. This new Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and features four bonus tracks including three alternate takes and a song omitted from the final completed album.
Various Artists/Taking Some Time On: Underground Sounds Of 1970 ....import 4 CD Set $45.99
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the next release in their series of compilations celebrating the so-called "underground" rock music - "Taking Some Time On - Underground Sounds of 1970," is a 4 CD clamshell boxed set which gathers together over five hours of music from 1970, the first year of a new decade that would see progressive music in all it's forms become a dominating force with the album-buying public. The innocence of psychedelia and the optimism expressed by such vast expressions of the hippy ideal as the Woodstock Festival in New York State and the Hyde Park Free Festivals of 1969 in London were shattered by the violence of the Altamont Festival in California at the end of the year. As 1970 dawned, a more cynical tone began to appear in the counter-culture which was also reflected in some of the music by "progressive" artists as some music got heavier or more anarchic. Jazz, blues, hard rock, folk and classical music influences melded together to form a diversity of music among so-called Underground artists, championed by "underground" figures of the day such as John Peel on his BBC Radio One show Top Gear. These artists retained a common audience who anticipated their albums eagerly, resulting in the "progressive" imprints of major record labels such as EMI's Harvest, Decca's Deram and Philips Records' Vertigo imprints and the independent Island Records enjoying healthy sales with some artists enjoying success in the UK singles charts. Universities and colleges were regular venues on burgeoning live music circuit in the UK for these artists, most of whom earned loyal followings through regular concert performances both in Britain and in Europe. 1970 was also a year of major rock festivals in Britain, all of whom featured "progressive" album focussed artists. Free concerts in London's Hyde Park and events such as Plumpton Festival, The Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music and the infamous Isle of Wight Festival of 1970 (gate-crashed by underground agitators protesting against the entrance fee being charged by the organisers) all showcased some of the best music of the time. Featuring: Yes, ELP, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, Van der Graaf Generator, Caravan, Egg, McDonald & Giles, Kevin Ayers, Hawkwind, Wishbone Ash, Procol Harum, Curved Air, Patto, Al Stewart, Atomic Rooster, Rare Bird, Traffic and so many, many more!
Circus/Circus ....import CD $20.99
Eponymous album by one of the first progressive rock releases on the Transatlantic label, until that time primarily known as a leading folk and folk rock imprint. Circus featured saxophonist and flautist Mel Collins (who shorly after joined King Crimson for Wake of Poseidon, Lizard and Islands and more recently has rejoined the band) along with Ian Jeff (guitar, vocals), Kirk Riddle (bass) and Chris Burrows (drums). An excellent jazz influenced progressive work, the album featured a notable cover of Lennon & McCartney's 'Norwegian Wood' and is now a highly desirable collector's item among progressive rock aficionados.
Vanilla Fudge/Then and Now ....2 CD Set $24.99
Two Compact Disc Set - the best of the studio recordings and live with Orchestra. Vanilla Fudge, tightly bound by shared professional and personal experiences and, like most teenagers and young adults in '67, enticed by experimental drugs and 'free love,' had transformed their sound. Some club owners complained that their slow, moody, stop-start, whisper-then-scream arrangements of songs like 'Ticket to Ride,' 'People Get Ready' and 'Eleanor Rigby' were emptying dancefloors. With the patronage of George Francis 'Shadow' Morton, an extremely talented but somewhat unhinged producer-about-town, the group known as Mark Stein and the Pigeons, who'd impressed Morton with their showmanship and instrumental expertise, was transformed into Vanilla Fudge and signed to Atlantic's ATCO subsidiary. Disc one highlights the 'best of' Vanilla Fudge, the ferocity of sound; disc two ups the ante when the Fudge meets Orchestra!

On July 16th, 2011 Deep Purple performed on the closing night of Switzerland's Montreux Jazz Festival, re-imagining classics from their catalogue backed by a symphony orchestra, the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt conducted by Stephen Bentley-Klein. Filmed on the closing night of the Montreux Festival on 16th July 2011, this 10th Anniversary release of the original concert, features Deep Purple playing their classic hits with the accompaniment of a full contemporary orchestra conducted by Stephen "BK" Bentley-Klein. The orchestrated arrangements give an added depth and range to the familiar songs and the band, who are clearly enjoying the experience. This is one of the band's finest performances. With a career stretching back into the late sixties and global album sales in excess of 100 million, Deep Purple need no introduction. Line-up:Ian Gillan (vocals); Ian Paice (drums); Roger Glover (bass); Steve Morse (guitar); Don Airey (keyboards) Features many Deep Purple classics including "Highway Star," "Strange Kind of Woman," "Lazy," "Perfect Strangers," "Hush," "Woman From Tokyo," "Black Night" and of course "Smoke On The Water" with its story of recording in Montreux.

Grateful Dead/Road Trips Vol. 2 No. 2 Carousel 2-14-68 ....2 CD Set $41.99
Happy Valentine's Day! Now would you like to have your mind blown? That's what happened to anyone who attended this 1968 concert at the Carousel Ballroom, which has long been considered to be one of the greatest early Dead shows (and is reputed to be one of Phil Lesh's favorite performances). Indeed, there's a reason why this show was the first one to be presented complete in the Road Trips series. Substantial portions of it were lifted for the Anthem of the Sun album, and the second set, which was broadcast over local radio, became a must-have in any self-respecting Dead Head tape collection thanks to its astonishing 'Born Cross-Eyed/Spanish Jam/Alligator' sequence. But this Trip offers much more; set one features two fine Pigpen showcases in 'Good Morning Little School Girl' and 'Turn on Your Love Light,' and the addition of early '68 bonus material from the Dead's pacific northwest tour means that you get not one but two early excursions into 'Dark Star.' Not to mention that the show is mixed down and mastered from the original 8-track tapes by Jeffrey Norman and the packaging features Mouse's original poster art for the show along with liner notes by Blair Jackson. About as indispensable as it gets'and it never has been available at music retail before!
The Brothers/March 10 2020 Madison Square Garden ....4
CD Set $34.99
The Brothers/March 10 2020 Madison Square Garden ....Blu-Ray $26.99
The Brothers/March 10 2020 Madison Square Garden ....DVD $26.99
On March 11th, 2020, hours before the United States came to a grinding halt due to the pandemic, The Brothers gathered at Madison Square Garden to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Allman Brothers Band. The concert would prove to be the last public outing for many attendees - as well as the musicians onstage - for over a year. This only added to the mysticism of the event that closed the book on half a century of musical tradition. Featuring performances by original ABB drummer Jaimoe alongside extended Allman family members Duane Trucks, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Oteil Burbridge, and Marc Quinones, The Brothers also sees special appearances by original pre-ABB project Second Coming keyboardist Reese Wynans as well as Chuck Leavell, who played with the band from 1972 to 1976.
Tony McPhee's Blues Band/Split Part II: Live at Bremen 1982 ....import CD $18.99
Live concert of the Groundhogs founder and guitarist Tony McPhee from 1982 at Germany with Mick Kirton and Steve Towner. With the Groundhogs, Tony McPhee wrote British blues rock history from the 1960s onwards. Along with Neil Young, he is one of the founding fathers of grunge rock. Still today records like "Thank Christ For The Bomb," "Hogwash" or "Split" belong in every well kept collection. Julian Cope, the British "Krautrock" expert and former frontman of The Teardrop Explodes, once said: "The way Tony McPhee and the Groundhogs developed the blues was as revolutionary as the works of MC5, the Stooges or that of the Krautrock movement." When Tony McPhee was not on tour or recording with the Groundhogs, he was on the road with his Tony McPhee's Blues Band, featuring Tony McPhee (guitars, vocals), Steve Towner (bass) and Mick Kirton (drums), indulging his very special form of psychedelic heavy blues. Recordings of Tony McPhee's Blues Band are very rare, with the line-up of McPhee, Towner and Kirton there is only one single from 1983 existing. So we are all the more pleased that the first official long-player of this enthusiastic trio will now be available with this live album, "Split II - Live in Bremen" from 1982. Incidentally, Tony McPhee came to the blues through John Lee Hooker, with whom he toured in 1964. Tony McPhee remembers: "He (Hooker) said that sometimes he played eleven bars, sometimes thirteen, sometimes twelve and a half. And I realized he did it on purpose. Mr. Big/Lean into It [30th Anniversary Edition]
Mr. Big/Lean into It [30th Anniversary Edition MQA-CD] ....2 CD Set $17.99
First released in 1991, Lean into It, is the second studio album by the American rock supergroup, consisting of Paul Gilbert, Eric Martin, Billy Sheehan and Pat Torpey, Mr. Big. This is the band's breakthrough album - Lean into It peaked at number 15 on the Billboard 200 charts, while the single 'To Be with You' became the band's first and only song to hit number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The follow-up single, 'Just Take My Heart.' was a Top-20 hit, peaking at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. The million-selling album also contains the popular tracks 'Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy.''Alive and Kickin' and 'Green Tinted Sixties Man.' Lean Into It shows that Mr. Big could also strip away all the flash and 7-minute solos and simply create well-written songs with rhythm, groove and good melodies, making the band one of the iconic new wave of progressive 'musician's bands' who could play mind-blowing complicated riffs on their instruments at lightning speeds. This is one of the ever-green albums of 80's style hair band rock that transcends the years and 2021 is the 30th anniversary of the release. evoXS is remastering the album using hi-resolution digital transfers from the original analogue master tapes and will be manufactured as a MQA-CD and hybrid SACD. The hybrid SACD plays on both SACD and regular CD players. The SACD has a multi-track mix in 5.1 sound which provides the ultimate sound quality experience. MQA is an award-winning technology that delivers the sound of the studio. MQA-CD plays on all CD players. When a conventional CD player is connected to an MQA-enabled device, the CD will reveal the original master quality. The MQA-CD version includes 2 discs - disc 1 contains the remastered tracks from the original album and disc 2 contains unreleased and hard to find bonus tracks, along with minus bass and minus guitar tracks, especially made for musicians to jam with.
OSI/Free ....2 CD Set $16.99
Free is the second studio album by American progressive rock band OSI originally released by InsideOut Music in 2006. Guitarist Jim Matheos and keyboardist and vocalist Kevin Moore (the original keyboardist for Dream Theater) decided to work on a follow-up to Office of Strategic Influence after the two found they both had holes in their schedules. Drummer Mike Portnoy returned as a session musician rather than a full band member. Joey Vera replaced Sean Malone on bass guitar. Free was met with generally positive critical reception. Critics noted that the album was different from its predecessor, focusing more on Moore's keyboards than Matheos' guitars. Portnoy's drumming received praise.

Gleb Kolyadin/Gleb Kolyadin [Expanded] ....import CD $18.99
Following the success of two highly-praised albums with Iamthemorning, Russian virtuoso pianist Gleb Kolyadin affirmed his musical authority with his debut, self-titled album on Kscope in February 2018. The record features a staggering who's who of performers, including: the unmistakable voice and lyrics of Steve Hogarth (Marillion) alongside Mick Moss (Antimatter); Gavin Harrison (King Crimson / Porcupine Tree) on drums; Nick Beggs (Steven Wilson / Trifecta) on bass; Theo Travis (Robert Fripp / Porcupine Tree / Steven Wilson) on flute and saxophone; and Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) on additional keys. Gleb Kolyadin is an emotive exploration of self-identity; a story of two parts with interweaving leitmotifs. The album's central concept weaves through an elaborate tonal and thematic structure, built around the extraordinary rhythm section of Gavin Harrison and Nick Beggs, which is accented at it's focal points by guest appearances from Steve Hogarth, Jordan Rudess, Mick Moss and Theo Travis. This new expanded CD edition of Gleb Kolyadin features two bonus tracks, May 26th & July 8th. Recorded on both dates respectively, the tracks are taken from Gleb's vast musical diary ('Poloniumcubes') of drafts and sketches that go on to form the basis of both solo and iamthemorning material. The two previously unreleased tracks were selected specifically as an organic ending and post script to the main story of the debut album. The album, presented here in digipack packaging complete with an 8-page booklet, is a collaborative piece with each musician recording their own parts separately, starting with Gleb recording himself on grand piano in Moscow winter/spring 2017 at the famed Mosfilm studio. The album was mixed and engineered by Vlad Avy, who also previously worked on the two Iamthemorning records.
The Woods Band/The Woods Band [Remastered Edition] ....import CD $21.99
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a newly re-mastered edition of the 1971 self-titled album by The Woods Band. The Woods Band comprised Terry Woods (vocals, mandola, concertina, electric, acoustic & bass guitar), Gay Woods (vocals, concertina, autoharp, dulcimer, bodhran), Ed Deane (electric, acoustic & bass guitars, keyboards) and Pat Nash (drums and vocals). Husband and wife Terry and Gay Woods had been members of the first line-up of Steeleye Span (also featuring ex-Fairport Convention member Ashley Hutchings, Tim Hart and Maddy Prior). The Woods' departed that group shortly after the release of their debut album to form their own band. After working with various musicians (including briefly the former King Crimson members Mike Giles and Ian McDonald), The Woods Band finally settled on a stable line-up when Ed Deane and Pat Nash joined the fold. In 1971 the Woods Band signed to the newly established Greenwich Gramophone Company (a "progressive" imprint of song writer Les Reed's Chapter 1 Records) and recorded their only album at Morgan Studios in September that year. Produced by former Colosseum bassist Tony Reeves, The Woods Band featured both traditional and original material and utilized both traditional and electric instrumentation and took on more of a rock influence than the early Steeleye Span. Upon it's release, the album was well received and The Woods Band undertook a series of concerts with their fellow label mates Samurai and Open Road and began to develop a cult following. However, Greenwich Gramophone ceased operations in 1972 and this left the band without a recording contract and the Woods Band ended, leaving Terry and Gay Woods to continue recording and working as a duo. Terry Woods was later a member of The Pogues. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly re-mastered and features an illustrated booklet with a new essay.

Hector Zazou/Geographies ....CD $14.99
The Made to Measure reactivation campaign continues with the reissue of this very special album by legendary French composer & producer Hector Zazou, who is known for many groundbreaking albums and collaborations, including Zazou Bikaye. Yet this orchestral suite originally released in 1985 showcases some of Zazou's most exquisite compositional work, fusing a chamber ensemble, some classical and pop vocals, unorthodox production, and an ironical, affectionate take on early 20th century classics (think Satie et al). With evocative song titles such as Cine Citta & Sidi Bel Abbes, and even a catchy folk-like tune (Vera C.), this album is a playful voyage in time and space.
Faust/Faust IV ....import CD $17.99
Faust IV is the fourth studio album by the German krautrock group Faust, released in 1973. The album is included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, where it is referred to as a "krautrock classic." This was the last album by the first incarnation of the band. The album was recorded at the Manor Studio in England. As the sessions took too long to complete, producer Uwe Nettelbeck opted to complete the album with material that was recorded at previous sessions in Wumme in Bremen, Germany. These additions include "Krautrock" (previously aired on the John Peel show) and "It's a Bit of a Pain" (previously released as the b-side of the "So Far" single in Germany).
K. Leimer/Mitteltoner72 ....CD $16.99
Mitteltoner72, K. Leimer's homage to the German Kosmische period, is an expanded, remixed and newly mastered edition of the Origin Peoples LP released in 2018. '72 includes all the music produced but not originally released for the LP. "Leimer's love of kosmische is evident from the start, as "Dunne Luft" condenses the earmarks of that sound into it's four minutes. There's the solar flares of guitar that arise early on in the track, fuzzy and luminous, serving less as a lead instrument and more as a sonic texture. It sounds like a sly homage to the arcing six-string stylings of Neu! and Harmonia member Michael Rother, but rather than simply pay tribute, Leimer let's pinging synths bustle underneath and processes and loops live drums to keep the track's momentum going. The flickering rhythms bring to mind the blurry highways evoked on Autobahn while the ghostly melodies of the piece bear the evocative beauty of Popol Vuh. Rather than serve as mere pastiche, Mitteltoner encapsulates Leimer's unique talents: drawing on a vintage sound now over forty years old and entering into middle age, while also finding a way to push it forward." -Pitchfork

Peter Hammill/In Translation ....import CD 16.99
For the first time ever, Peter has recorded a collection of cover versions. The songs come from a variety of musical worlds: Classical, American Songbook, Italian Pop and Tango. In all but three cases Peter has also translated the songs, from Italian, French and German. As strange a project as this might seem, there's an overall sense of cohesiveness to it and it's absolutely of this time. Two songs have lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein; the music for one is by Jerome Kern, the other by Richard Rodgers. Leiber and Stoller provided lyrics for "I Who Have Nothing," originally an Italian tune. Three Italian songs are at the core of the album, written (and originally performed) by Fabrizio de Andre, Luigi Tenco and Piero Ciampi. The two tango pieces were composed by Astor Piazzolla. Finally, there are two classical songs, respectively by Faure and Mahler. In Peter's own words... "This collection seems to fit together as a group, not least because most of these songs are to do with measures of dislocation, of loss, of some kind of imagined or anticipated future which didn't arrive. I was unfamiliar with several of these songs before I began this project. One discovery led on to another in some kind of paper trail. The back stories to the songs are interesting and some of the writers and singers had a spectacularly dramatic time of things. I doff my hat to these sometimes complicated lives. My approach has always been to make cultural rather than strictly linguistic translations, so that the spirit of the song rather than its precise narrative is rendered. I hope I've addressed the material, the writers, the original performers, with due and proper respect. Inevitably though there's spin here: mine all mine. Finally, these recordings were made, of course, in the time of Covid and lockdown. But also in the knowledge that Brexit - in all its horror - was fast approaching. So these performances of, for the most part, European songs were my last as a European singer, with all the rights and privileges that has brought me for so many years."
Gentle Giant/Free Hand [5.1 & 2.0 Steven Wilson Mix] ....CD
+ Blu-Ray $21.99
Gentle Giant/Free Hand [Steven Wilson Mix] ....CD $15.99
Free Hand was Gentle Giant's seventh album originally released in July 1975. This album was the most commercially successful of the band's career reaching the top 40 albums in Billboard Magazine. It stands as the culmination of the band's maturity, following the successes of In a Glass House and The Power & the Glory. Having toured Europe & North America non-stop in the years prior to this release with artists like Jethro Tull, Yes, Zappa etc, the band had gone from strength to strength. By the time Freehand was released Gentle Giant had become a major headliner in its own right. All the members were multi-instrumentalists. The band were never afraid of surprising an audience with a 4 part recorder ensemble followed by a vibraphone solo all the while rocking the audience and thoroughly enjoying themselves onstage at the same time. Gentle Giant albums featured many songs with both literary subjects as well as social and personal commentary on life as rock musicians. Free Hand has more than most. The title of the album and first track were so named as the band had just changed record labels and management and felt unshackled by prior contractual obligations. Putting these issues behind them upon it's first release, Gentle Giant embarked on an extensive tour of North America and Europe, plus a short tour of the UK, to promote the album. The incredible range of Gentle Giant's music is evident hroughout this album. From the intricate vocal fretwork of On Reflection and the delicate medieval flavor of Talybont the Celtic-tinged rock of Time to Kill and the jagged rhythms of Just the Same all those diverse elements which made the band so strikingly original are skillfully blended and perfectly executed. Award winning producer and musician Steven Wilson has added his delicate touch in remixing Free Hand in Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound. His tonal range and painstaking attention to sound quality make Free Hand sound as fresh today as it did on first release. A fitting tribute to the compositional skills and expertise of five dedicated musicians. Steven Wilson's remixed version of Freehand will be released in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 surround sound accompanied by custom animated visuals for each track on Blu-ray. In addition, the original flat mix, original 1975 quad mix and an instrumental mix will all be included in a Digipack CD.

Rick Wakeman/Yes Solos 1971-2003 ....CD $17.99
"I personally don't know of a musician that doesn't enjoy doing solos. It is an opportunity to show, (and show off), what you feel within the music and also perhaps to show how you think and play contributes to the overall sound of the band, but the greatest thing about a solo is that it is truly a one-off - solos can never be repeated. They are a musically feeling of that particular moment in time." - Rick Wakeman
Greenslade/Temple Songs: Albums 1973-1975 ....import 4 CD Set $49.99
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of Temple Songs - The Albums 1973 - 1975, a four-disc clamshell box set of the four albums released by the legendary band Greenslade between 1973 and 1975 - Greenslade, Bedside Manners Are Extra, Spyglass Guest and Time and Tide. One of the most interesting and musically able bands of the 1970s, Greenslade formed in 1972 and featured a line-up comprising former Colosseum members Dave Greenslade (keyboards) and Tony Reeves (bass) along with Dave Lawson (keyboards, vocals) and Andrew McCulloch (drums, percussion). The band came together following the demise of Colosseum and were distinguished by having two keyboard players. Greenslade's unique musical style set them aside from their progressive rock contemporaries of the era and the quartet of albums they issued between 1973 and 1975 were all of an excellent standard. The band's self-titled debut album was released in early 1973 and was an impressive musical statement featuring such material as "Feathered Friends," "Drowning Man," "Melange" and "Sundance." This album was followed at the end of the same year by Bedside Manners Are Extra, one of their finest works featuring the classic title track along with the excellent Pilgrim's Progress, Sunkissed You're Not and Time to Dream. 1974's Spyglass Guest saw Greenslade make an impression on the UK album charts and was another fine album with highlights such as Spirit of the Dance, Joie de Vivre, Melancholic Race and the band's interpretation of the Jack Bruce and Pete Brown classic Theme for an Imaginary Western. Greenslade's final album of the 1970s was Time and Tide, issued in May 1975. This album saw the departure of Tony Reeves who was replaced by Martin Briley on bass and guitar. Despite receiving critical acclaim for their live appearances and recorded work, the band split in 1976. Temple Songs - The Albums 1973 - 1975 is a fine collection of music by a truly original band.

His music exploration has ventured through prog, jazz-rock, fusion and beyond.
Bill Bruford's Earthworks/Dig? ....import CD $20.99
With Earthworks second album, Dig?, Bill Bruford began to be accepted on a broader level as a jazz drummer even though his roots in the style go right back to his formative years. Bruford had found players who were clearly familiar with the jazz tradition even as they pursued paths to break it down and reconstruct it in new and unusual ways. Earthworks' second and best release features young Turks Ballamy and Bates and a new bassist, Tim Harries, who replaces Mick Hutton. Tunes are by everybody and Tony Hatch (the latter a mutant arrangement of Downtown by Bates which will not be entering the top 40). This edition has two bonus tracks in addition - Emotional Shirt and Pigalle - culled from the band's live appearances. This album has been out of print for some time. This re-release is on Bruford's own Summerfold Records and was overseen personally by him.
John McLaughlin/Liberation Time ....CD $16.99
With his newest album, Liberation Time, McLaughlin draws from one of humanity's most fraught, uncertain epochs to produce music that gracefully reflects the uncertainty, vulnerability, and slowly awakening joy of our times. A direct response to the mandated restrictions imposed by the spread of Covid-19, the album is - unusually for McLaughlin's recent projects - not the work of one fixed ensemble. With physical proximity no longer a prerequisite, McLaughlin drew upon decades of experience as a bandleader to select musicians best suited to each composition. 'As the Spirit Sings' introduces the album by contrasting churning rhythmic tension (stoked by drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and bassist Sam Burgess) with McLaughlin's soaring guitar figures - all underpinned by Gary Husband's subtle, supportive piano. The knotty post-bop figures of 'Right Here, Right Now, Right On' mark one of the most jazz-inflected performances McLaughlin has laid down in some time, featuring Nicolas Viccaro (drums), Jerome Regard (bass), Julian Siegel (tenor saxophone), and Oz Ezzeldin (piano). The sense of brotherhood that bonds McLaughlin's current 4th Dimension ensemble (McLaughlin, Husband, bassist Etienne Mbappe, and drummer Ranjit Barot) is on full display during 'Lockdown Blues,' a playful refraction examination of blues tropes first released last summer to benefit the Jazz Foundation of America. With vaccination campaigns now in full effect and a more promising tomorrow coming into view, Liberation Time's title track can be felt as visceral anticipation - a rousing glimpse into an unbound future rich with possibilities. And while much of Liberation Blues revels in the sort of spontaneous interplay that has been denied by Covid restrictions, some of the album's most touching moments feature McLaughlin alone at the piano - an instrument he has not recorded on since his 1973 collaboration with Carlos Santana, Love Devotion Surrender. Liberation Time is a product of its times, and yet it looks both forwards and backwards - at once drawing upon memories of better days yet reaching for a new dawn. Looking back at the album's transcontinental sessions, McLaughlin concludes, 'The wonderful thing about music is that you put the headphones on and you are all in the same room.'
John McLaughlin & Paco de Lucia/Paco & John Live at Montreux 1987 [Ear + Eye Series] ....import 2 CD + DVD Set $33.99
On July 15th, 1987, two guitar maestros shared the stage at the Montreux Jazz Festival for an evening of breathtaking flamenco music. The show opens with a solo piece from John McLaughlin, followed by a solo piece from Paco de Lucia, before the two virtuosos join forces in a series of duets for the rest of the evening. The repertoire is drawn from their solo albums, from albums by The Guitar Trio and from covers of music written by friends such as Chick Corea and Egberto Gismonti. This is a superb concert for any lover of great flamenco guitar playing or indeed for anyone who loves to see great musicians performing at their very best.
Stephan Thelen/Fractal Guitar 2 ....CD $18.99
The leader of the marvelous Swiss avant-prog/jazz/something-or-other quartet Sonar, guitarist and composer Stephan Thelen also has a thriving solo career that goes back for years. His latest solo album 'Fractal Guitar 2' continues the work begun by its predecessors 'Fractal Guitar,' layering Thelen's minimalist melodies and challenging time signatures with a multitude of guest guitarists from the experimental sphere. The tracks often have as many as five extra string-slingers alongside Thelen himself, including David Torn, Henry Kaiser, Markus Reuter, Jon Durant, Bill Walker, Barry Cleveland, Stefan Huth and Chris Muir on touch guitar, 12-string, various processed, filtered and textural guitars, e-bow and, as well, plain old riffing and soloing. That's not to mention the keyboards and percussion on top of the rhythm section and Thelen's own multi-instrumental contributions. Stephan Thelen might be doing something that cannot be properly labelled, he might be the precursor of the new subgenre: "fractal music."
Mahogany Frog/In the Electric Universe ....CD $18.99
Mahogany Frog is an instrumental electronic rock band from Winnipeg. The group is comprised of Graham Epp (guitar, keyboards, electronics, trumpet), Jesse Warkentin (guitar, keyboards, electronics), Scott Ellenberger (bass, keyboards, electronics, trumpet) and Andy Rudolph (drums, keyboards, electronics). The music draws influence from '60s psychedelia, '70s progressive, fusion, jazz, '50s exotica, electronica, and ambient & experimentalism. Utilizing extensive analogue and digital keyboards, feedback-ridden guitars, fuzz-bass and electronics, the group creates dynamic, multi-layered songs that explore tone, mood and composition. Mahogany Frog's unorthodox sounds and complex arrangements can challenge the ear, yet their haunting progressions and playful melodies are immediately approachable. Onstage the band performs furiously and at massive volumes, often connecting multiple songs together with interludes consisting of textured ambience. Six years in the making, In the Electric Universe illustrates a foray into forms of sonic searching previously unexamined by the group. Building from approaches in orchestration captured on their 2012 effort Senna, the group aims to create infinitely morphing waves of sound that transcend conventional perceptions of instrumentation, while simultaneously offering melodic and rhythmic closure. Utilizing the gradual unfolding of themes, extensive repetition, textural layering and crunchy, downbeat-heavy grooves, the tunes invoke a listening experience that is trance-like and hypnotic. The extensive employment of synthesized arpeggiators, often detached from the rhythm and irresolute in tempo, generate warm and disorienting backdrops to otherwise approachable structures. Tape loops and tape delay are used experimentally, highlighting decay and fragmentation. The compositions serve as foundations for melodic layering, tonal examination and deconstruction, resulting in a dynamic and colorful collection of music rich in expression, playfulness and resolve.
Renaldo & The Loaf/Hardly Gurning While the World Is Turning ....import CD $19.99
Renaldo and the Loaf is an English musical duo active since the late 1970s, consisting of a pathologist (David Janssen or Ted the Loaf) and an architect (Brian Poole or Renaldo Malpractice). In the '80s they recorded for The Residents' label, Ralph Records and even recorded an album, Title in Limbo, in collaboration with The Residents and guitarist Snakefinger. By their own assertion, they achieved their unique sound in part by striving to get unnatural synthesizer-like sounds using only what instruments they had available (acoustic ones). To that end they routinely used muffled and de-tuned instruments, and, often to striking effect, tape loops and manipulation. In 2018 they played their first ever live show at Klang 25 in Vienna, documented on the album Long Time Coming. In 2016 the group recorded a brand new album entitled Gurdy Hurding. When it was released on vinyl in 2019, it came with a fourth side of a new piece, Hardly Gurning While the World Is Turning. This has never been available on CD - until now. Here's what the band says: Hardly Gurning itself is part remix, part new recording, part re-imagining...to complement this we decided to ask some of our friends if they might create a remix re-imagination of the Gurdy Hurding tracks. In a strange way, the lockdowns of 2020 have benefitted this project as, in most cases, it afforded our contributors some time to work on it, which otherwise they may not have able to. We've certainly been excited by what has emerged - almost the whole of Gurdy Hurding has been revisited.
Samurai of Prog/The White Snake and Other Grimms Tales II ....import CD $23.99
The Samurai of Prog have been working hard again - producing three albums within seven months, with all-new original material. The White Snake is a follow-up to The Samurai of Prog's well-received "The Lady and The Lion" (part 1 of songs inspired by The Brothers Grimm fairy tales). All the main elements of The Samurai of Prog are naturally present (virtuosic violin, powerful picked bass, varied keyboard sounds, dynamic drums), but The White Snake is in no way a repetition of the first Grimm album. From the opening notes, you can tell this album takes a new journey, propelled by many talented friends: Marco Grieco, Marcel Singor (Kayak), Alessandro Di Benedetti (Mad Crayon), Mimmo Ferri, Rafael Pacha, Marco Vincini, Elisa Montaldo, Luca Scherani, Marcella Arganese, Stefano Galifi, Alessio Calandriello, Daniel Faldt, Alessandro Corvaglia, Camilla Rinaldi, Carmine Capasso, and of special note Oliviero Lacagnina (Latte e Miele), who composed the 5-part title suite.
The Samurai of Prog/The Lady and the Lion and Other Grimm Tales I ....import CD $22.99
The Samurai of Prog are having a prolific Run. A few short months after 2020's "Beyond the Wardrobe" album, the core trio of Marco Bernard, Kimmo Porsti and Steve Unruh are joined - as is their way - by a cast of contributing artists and writers, this time crafting an album inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. The Samurai have become known in progressive rock circles for their symphonic prog creations, which feature lush and varied keyboard sounds, powerful picked bass guitar, dynamic drums, virtuosic violin and flute, and always mixed and mastered for audiophiles. This is a great addition fo TSoP's ever growing catalog of lovingly crafted new symphonic prog, rooted in the classics, but looking forward.
The Frost/Milliontown ....CD $16.99
2021 re-issue. This 2021 reissue features the remixed & remastered audio included on 2020's "13 Winters" collection.
London Philharmonic Orchestra/Symphonic Music of Yes ....import CD $17.99
Released in 1993, this album pitches the weight of the London Philharmonic Orchestra on a selection of Yes classics, with the involvement of Yes alumni Jon Anderson, Steve Howe and Bill Bruford, under the auspices of arranger David Palmer. Palmer had previously worked with Jethro Tull, and had released a succession of symphonic tributes for the RCA label featuring the music of Jethro Tull, Genesis, and Pink Floyd. Adding still further to the progressive rock credibility of this release is the presence of recording engineer Alan Parsons, by then a recording artist in his own right, but who as a sound engineer had engineered the Pink Floyd classic Dark Side of the Moon. And the cover art is provided by no less than Roger Dean whose vistas of imaginary, alien landscapes featured on many of the classic Yes albums.
Hoelderlin/Live at Rockpalast 2005 ....import CD + DVD $21.99
They were one of the leading representatives of "Krautrock," this independent rock music, primarily of West German bands, at the end of the '60s, beginning of the '70s. Hoelderlin began their career in 1972 with the release of their album "Hoelderlins Traum" on the Pilz label of the journalist and "Krautrock" pioneer Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser. The Wuppertal musicians mixed folk with progressive rock and psychedelic elements and used classical instruments such as viola, cello and flute. The group's initially German lyrics were written mainly by guitarist Christian von Grumbkow and bassist Peter Kaseberg, influenced by the works of the poet and namesake Friedrich Hoelderlin. This changed, however, when the band signed with Intercord in 1975, their records were henceforth released via the Stuttgart record company's "progressive" label Spiegelei and Conny Plank sat behind the controls at the studio mixing desk. After their sixth studio album, "Fata Morgana," Hoelderlin split up in 1981. It took almost a quarter of a century for the band to reunite and celebrate their comeback in December 2005 with a furious concert at the WDR "Rockpalast" in Bonn's Harmonie. Hoelderlin's Hans Baar remembers: "While there was still a certain tension on stage during the sound check, the audience welcomed us in the evening with the greatest warmth and approval. They had actually come to a Hoelderlin concert again after almost 25 years. Hard to believe!"
Karthago/Live at Rockpalast 2004 ....import CD + DVD $19.99
In the 1970s, the Berlin based rock group Karthago achieved great successes and belonged to the elite of the German rock scene. Even abroad, guitarist and singer Joey Albrecht and his fellow players had many fans. The commercial success also reflected in reader polls of music magazines such as "POP," "Musikexpress" or "Sounds," where the band landed top scores at that time. Foreign music magazines, like "Sounds UK" or "New Musical Express," expressed similar views, calling Karthago "...the best German rock band of the '70s" (NME). In 1978, Karthago split up for the first time. In 2003, the band reunited with the three original members Joey Abrecht, Ingo Bischof and Tommy Goldschmidt together with the Uruguayan Rolo Rodriguez (dr) and his son Chris (b). Now at last, the complete Karthago concert at the WDR "KRAUTrockpalast" from December 21st, 2004, comprising 13 pieces can be enjoyed again - both acoustically and visually. Just like good wine, the musicians of Karthago have become more mature over time, because "by now we had put aside certain profile neuroses and got along with each other much better. We worked much more professionally than back then. Now it was all about the project, certain things were necessary and they had to be done. You never stop learning, and at the moment itself you just can't tell at which point you are" (Joey Albrecht, 2004).

"Joni's the greatest living singer-songwriter, and 'For Free' is one of her simplest," Crosby said in a statement. It's one of my favourite songs because I love what it says about the spirit of music and what compels you to play."

Giancarlo Erra/Departure Tapes ....import CD + DVD $22.99
UK based Italian composer, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist Giancarlo Erra started his career in 2005 with one man studio project Nosound. In 2008 Erra signed with Kscope and released a string of albums under the Nosound banner before recording the first album under his own name Ends I-VII in 2019. He now returns with a new album Departure Tapes, reflecting what has been a difficult year with the loss of his father to cancer. In Giancarlo's own words "The end result is the most experimental (and darkest at times) material I ever wrote, without compromise or set plan. It contains all the elements of my music in a very unconscious free flow way. It's the first album I wrote without knowing I was writing it, intrinsically linked to one of the hardest and yet more healing parts of my life." Departure Tapes is an album of contemplative recordings, written while travelling between the UK and Italy. The majority of these tracks have been recorded live by Erra, so for the most part they are totally unique and hold a sincerity which cannot be replicated. Max Richter, Olafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm and the more electronic / ambient recordings of Brian Eno may offer a reference point by which to enter Erra's world, but the depth within these recordings is truly original. This edition of Departure Tapes is presented as a CD/DVD (NTSC 0) in a digipack.
3.2/Third Impression ....CD $14.99
Robert Berry returns with a second 3.2 album, "Third Impression." The project is a continuation of the band 3, which Berry was in with Carl Palmer and the late great Keith Emerson. In October 2015, conversations about a new "3" album started between Robert Berry and Frontiers President, Serafino Perugino as Robert had been speaking to Keith Emerson about releasing the long delayed "3" follow up album. Along with renewed fan interest in the band and those conversations, Berry had sparked revived enthusiasm from Keith Emerson for pursuing the project. The exchange of musical ideas and song collaborations ultimately paved the groundwork for 3.2's first album, "The Rules Have Changed." Everything was set. Song ideas, studio time, record contract... and then, that dark day. Emerson's untimely death made the album an uncertainty. Robert was left with Keith Emerson's final musical ideas for the project. From old cassette tapes, keyboard parts written over the phone, to long discussions about style, the framework of the album was set and ready to be produced. After several months of grieving and contemplation about what to do with these co-written songs and musical fragments from Emerson, Robert decided to resume work on the material that was created and craft a record that would ultimately be a fitting tribute to Keith Emerson's musical legacy and at the same time re-energize and update the musical style started with '3' some 30 years ago. The final result was 3.2, a reboot of the original "3" project. The debut album released in 2018 is a record that deserves to be heard by each and every fan of the great Keith Emerson and includes some exquisite musical parts. And the follow up, Third Impression, is no lesser than it's predecessor, mixing epic songs with more melodic and AOR moments. It's final track, the nine minute 'Never,' is one more Emerson/Berry original with Keith's trademark style all over it.
Jon Anderson/Animation [Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....import CD $20.99
Digitally remastered and expanded edition of the 1982 solo album by Jon Anderson, Animation. The album was recorded throughout 1981 during Jon's first hiatus from Yes, with whom he had become an internationally known vocalist and songwriter and followed on from his acclaimed albums Olias of Sunhillow and Song of Seven. Working with co-producer Neil Kernon and a host of talented musicians such as David Scancious, Clem Clempson, Simon Phillips, Stefano Cerri, Chris Rainbow, Jack Bruce and Dave Lawson, Anderson created an album that absorbed the latest electronic instrument technology whilst retaining an ambitious and progressive edge. Animation was a UK top fifty hit upon it's release by Polydor Records in June 1982 and spawned two UK singles, of which the non-album track 'Spider' acted, strangely, as a B-side to both releases. Animation has since become a favourite album among aficionados of Jon Anderson's work. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly remastered from the original Polydor Records master tapes and is expanded to include the single B-side track 'Spider' and also a demo from the early 1980s of the lengthy piece 'The Spell.' This reissue restores the original album artwork in a digipack and the booklet features a new essay with an exclusive interview with Jon Anderson.

Roger Chapman/Life in the Pond ....CD $15.99
A studio album by Roger Chapman is always an event. Since '66, when the British singer-songwriter emerged as the voice of his generation with the seminal Family band, through every twist of his four-decade solo career, Chappo's output has defied music industry protocol, challenged genre, and held up a mirror to the times. "I've never stopped writing," he reflects, "and with Life in the Pond, I felt the need to hear what I'd put down in music." Released in 2021 on Ruf Records and Chappo Music, Life in the Pond draws a line under a period in which the 79-year-old had been absent from the studio but privately prolific. Twelve years since 2009's acclaimed rarities collection Hide Go Seek, "A true lionheart still roars," enthused The Mirror, Life in the Pond reconnects the veteran with faces from his past - including ex-Family multi-instrumentalist John 'Poli' Palmer as co-writer and producer - while taking the pulse of modern life. "Mostly it's anger at politicians that's kept me fired up," says Chapman of the lyrics. "But I'm also influenced by daily happenings, world news, people, acquaintances. It's all in the lyrics." As for the music, Life in the Pond joins the dots between Chapman's founding influences. "It's about nostalgia for the different musical styles that influenced my life. American rock from the '50s to now. British R'n'B from the '60s, like Georgie Fame, The Stones, Zoot Money. Folk, blues, Motown, Stax, Blue Note jazz, Classical, Americana, and Country. A whole mess of influences..." That eclectic roll call won't surprise anyone who has followed Chappo through his fascinating career. Born in the Midlands city of Leicester, he told the Rock Legacy site that "I wasn't interested in the English version of rock 'n' roll. All my heroes were American, like Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, and Gene Vincent - that was the real stuff."

Miles Davis/Merci, Miles! Live at Vienne ....2 CD Set $24.99
By 1991, the world's most celebrated trumpeter could look back on five decades of musical evolution - his own, and that of the world around him. Miles Davis had found ways of marrying jazz with classical ideas, then later R&B, rock and funk, producing hybrid offspring that shaped the course of popular music and had come to define his legend. In 1985, he'd left Columbia after thirty years to sign to Warner Bros. Records, a label riding high with best-selling artists like Madonna, Van Halen and Prince, with whom he had a mutual admiration and friendship. Miles Davis's lifelong love for France is well-documented, and in July 1991, he became a Knight of their Legion of Honour. Davis received the award from French culture minister Jack Lang, who described him as: "The Picasso of Jazz." A few days before, he played this electrifying set at the Vienne Jazz Festival with the Miles Davis Group. He passed away two months later in September 1991. Miles Davis' performance at Jazz a Vienne on July 1, 1991 became one of his final live performances before he passed away on September 28, 1991, and this previously unreleased set includes two songs written by Prince, "Penetration" and "Jailbait."

Global Village Trucking Company/Smiling Revolution: Remastered Anthology ....import 2 CD Set $23.99
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of a new re-mastered 2 disc anthology by Global Village Trucking Company, "Smiling Revolution." Between March 1972 and their final performance at The Nottingham Boat Club in August 1975, the Global Village Trucking Company played 390 gigs. In that time, they gained many friends, fans and admirers. A Global Village gig was always a special occasion, full of unexpected moments and often passages of true inspiration. They were constantly pushing and stretching the boundaries, with a huge appetite for improvisation that often took them to giddy musical heights. It was for good reason that they were frequently referred to as Britain's answer to the Grateful Dead. And amongst this there was also a lot of damn fine playing, a repertoire of outstanding songs, a charismatic frontman, and an ability to take the audience with them to wherever they chose to go that night. They never lost sight of giving people a good time, and very few people left a show without a smile on their face. In that three and a half year period the key line up of the band was singer, chief songwriter and rhythm guitarist Jon Owen, James Lascelles on keyboards, drummer Simon Stewart, Michael Medora on lead guitar, and John McKenzie on bass. Aside from being stalwarts of the UK gig circuit and festival scene, Global Village Trucking Company recorded a series of sessions for the legendary DJ John Peel. Their communal life at Beehive Cottage in the Norfolk countryside attracted the interest of the BBC, who made a documentary on the band, By Way of a Change. The group made their first appearance on record in January 1974 on the album Greasy Truckers Live at Dingwall's Dance Hall, a live double album at an event staged by the alternative music and events promoters which also featured Henry Cow, Camel and Gong. Following this Global Village Trucking Company recorded their only album at Rockfield Studios intended for release on a new label to be established by Dave Robinson (later founder of Stiff Records). The proposed record company failed to materialize and by the summer of 1975 the band had called it a day and an arrangement was made with Virgin Records to release the album posthumously on Virgin's Caroline label. Forty years on, Smiling Revolution has been compiled by the band and gathers together the band's legendary album as originally intended, their tracks from the Greasy Truckers release, John Peel session tracks and other previously unreleased delights, all superbly remastered by acclaimed producer Robin Millar. It also features lavishly illustrated booklets and an absorbing essay detailing the story of this unique group. The band's star shone briefly, but it shone bright. They touched the lives of many. Those who enjoyed them back then will relish the opportunity to relive that now. And for those discovering the music for the first time - welcome to the world of the Global Village Trucking Company!

Famed for his rock roots with Genesis, and through his extensive solo catalogue, Hackett demonstrates the exquisite beauty of the nylon guitar at times venturing into the exotic ethnic and often supported by dazzling orchestral arrangements. "A lot of acoustic ideas had been forming over the years, and it felt like the perfect time to create this album," notes Hackett, "a time to contemplate the places we've visited around the Mediterranean with the kind of music which evolved from the world of imagination. Because we can't really travel substantially at the moment, I hope that the album will take people on that journey. Whether you sit down and listen to it or drift off to it with a glass of wine..."

Jean-Michel Jarre/Amazonia ....import CD $24.99
Jean-Michel Jarre has composed and recorded a 52 minute musical score for 'Amazonia,' a new project by award winning photographer and filmmaker Sebastiao Salgado, for the Philharmonic Paris. The exhibition launches on April 7th and will later travel to South America, Roma and London. 'Amazonia' is an immersive exhibition focussing on the Brazilian Amazon, featuring more than 200 photographs and other media by Salgado. He travelled the region for six years, capturing the forest, the rivers, the mountains and the people who live there, and most of the work will be seen publicly for the first time. At the heart of the exhibit is an invitation to see, hear and think about the future of biodiversity and the place of humans in the living world. JMJs accompanying sound-creation is a symphonic world which will engulf visitors to the exhibit in the sounds of the forest. Using a blend of electronic and orchestral instruments with other real-life natural sounds, the score has also been recorded in binaural audio, for a truly immersive experience. "I wanted to avoid the ethnomusicological approach, or creating background music. So I conceived a sort of toolbox containing musical elements - orchestral and electronic - intended to recreate or evoke the timbre of natural sounds, to which I added sounds from the environment, and finally ethnic sources (voices, songs, and instruments) from the sound archives of the Ethnography Museum of Geneva (MEG). I approached the Amazon with respect, in a poetic and impressionistic way. I chose the vocal and sound elements in their evocative dimension, rather than trying to be faithful to a particular ethnic group. It seemed interesting to me to fantasize the forest. It carries with it a powerful imagination; for both Westerners and Amerindians. This music also evokes a form of nomadism, as if sounds appear and disappear during a migration. It was necessary to go back to the principles of orchestration of the sounds of nature, to work from sounds which follow one another randomly, but which can compose a harmony or a dissonance. And as in any symphony, the work has moments of clarity or tension." The CD & VINYL come with an access code to download the Binaural Sound and 5.1. Sound.

Steve Lukather & Edgar Winter/Live at North Sea Festival 2000 ....CD + DVD $18.99
When these two extraordinary musicians, Steve Lukather and Edgar Winter, came together on stage at the North Sea Festival 2000, they had already achieved legendary careers in their own right. Steve Lukather started as a studio musician before becoming a founding member of rock band Toto. His guitar style and influence can be heard on numerous albums of notable artists such as Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and Chicago. Having been influenced by Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton, Steve developed a guitar style, which paid tribute to both rock and jazz styles, playing with such perfection and intensity that you can still spot his influence among a thousand other guitarists. Edgar Winter is the younger brother of Johnny Winter. Having debuted at the Woodstock-Festival, he also fusioned rock, blues and jazz since his first great successes in 1970. Working with musicians such as Rick Derringer, David Lee Roth and Ringo Starr, he was equally well prepared to team up with Steve Lukather. Together with Phil Soussan (bass) and Gary Ferguson (drums) the concert at the North Sea Jazz Festival was not only a firework of improvisation, but an intense demonstration of the perfection and skills of Lukather and Winter.

Featuring original Mahavishnu drummer Billy Cobham, plus saxophonist Bill Evans and bassist Jonas Hellborg, this high-energy electric album is regarded as one of his best efforts and has been his most sought after album for CD reissue.
Man/Anachronism Tango ....import CD $18.99
With a population of approximately three million people, Wales is not necessarily one of the most populous countries on earth. Wales is not even the most populous country in the UK. Nevertheless, Wales has a diverse and successful music scene and has produced a number of internationally acclaimed stars over the past decades, such as Tiger Tom Jones, Bonnie Tyler, John Cale, Shakin' Stevens or bands like Manic Street Preachers, Feeder; Stereophonics, Racing Cars and Man, only to name but a few. Man from Merthyr Tydfil are probably the most senior band from Wales at the moment. Founded in 1968 from the members of the rockgroup The Bystanders, Man developed a very independently mixture of progressive and psychedelic rock, blues and elements of US Westcoast rock. Live, Man is known for their excessive jams in the spirit of US colleagues like the Grateful Dead or the Allman Brothers. After a series of very successful LPs, Man split up in 1977 due to differences of opinions about their musical focus. During their farewell tour through the USA, Europe and North Africa, the album All's Well that Ends Well was recorded. In 1983, Man reunited with Deke Leonard, Martin Ace, Jeff Jones and ex-Gentle Giant drummer John Weathers. The album Friday 13th was released in the same year. Another reformation took place in 1992 with Ace, Jones, Leonard and Weathers and the release of the album Twang Dynasty. Since then Man have been touring regularly and releasing new albums as well. Further personnel changes bring on the second generation of musicians to Man in the coming years. So in 2021 bassist Martin Ace and his son Josh are the driving forces of the band. Now Anachronism Tango will be released, a new Man album recorded by Martin and Josh Ace, James Beck (slide guitar, vocals), Rene Robrahn (drums) and veteran keyboardist Malcolm Morley. The high and established Man quality level is also maintained on this album.

Rightly regarded as legends of progressive rock, the band have continued to evolve and have been keen to embrace the possibilities of the internet, using innovative ways to interact with listeners resulting in an incredibly loyal legion of fans around the world. One early example of this type of forward-thinking online fan-engagement was seen in 1999's Marillion.Com, which was one of these first internet based promotions whereby the band asked for fans to send them passport pictures of themselves, resulting in 732 pictures being used to make up the artwork for the slipcase for the record. With the majority of the album featuring mixing from Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree and the band taking care of the remaining songs, this was the band's last album of the '90s, but just the beginning of a more direct relationship with fans which has since developed and grown.
Marillion/Radiation ....import CD $18.99
Marillion formed in 1979 and have since sold over 15 million albums worldwide. Rightly regarded as legends of progressive rock, the band have continued to evolve and have been keen to embrace the possibilities of the internet, using innovative ways to interact with listeners resulting in an incredibly loyal legion of fans around the world. Radiation was the band's tenth studio album and debuted in the top 40 in the UK when it was originally released in 1998. The album saw the band abandon the acoustic approach of This Strange Engine and instead revisit a heavier sound previously found on Afraid of Sunlight. This change in sound as well as the experimentation with different instrument tones and vocal effects and samples led to a more pop sound than that previously heard from the group. The album was subsequently remixed and remastered by Michael Hunter in 2013 and issued alongside the original version. Kscope are now pleased to present a reissue of this highly regarded album on CD. The CD edition will include both the original 1998 version and the 2013 mixes.

Missing Persons/Spring Session M [2021 Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....CD $15.99
Formed in 1980 by the core trio of Dale and Terry Bozzio along with Warren Cuccurullo (all Frank Zappa alumni), Missing Persons perfectly fit into the New Wave movement. With her quirky singing style and colorful homemade attire, Dale Bozzio created a unique image that was both ear and eye candy. Husband Terry brought powerhouse drumming to their sound that added immediate credibility. Future Duran Duran guitarist Warren brought a rocking guitar sound that could either provide a melodic accompaniment or blistering solo, all with a distinctive sound that was very much his own. Released in late 1982, the full length debut album Spring Session M (an anagram for the band's name) became an instant hit, eventually achieving Gold status. Now including additional members Patrick O'Hearn (another Zappa alumnus) and Chuck Wild on bass and keyboards, the music videos for the hit singles Words and Destination Unknown were put into heavy rotation on MTV. Two additional chart singles, Windows and Walking in L.A., were also released. Rubellan Remasters is proud to reissue the full catalog of the original Missing Persons. Dynamically remastered from original master tapes from the Universal Music tape archive, Spring Session M not only includes the original 12 album tracks, but has been expanded to include the additional songs from the debut EP, including one of their signature tunes Mental Hopscotch.

Eagerly awaited re-press - digitally remastered edition of this acclaimed album by Pierre Moerlen's Gong. By the late 1970s, percussionist Pierre Moerlen had taken over the leadership of Gong and had steered the band away from psychedelic space rock and took the band into a jazz rock direction, one in which the band excelled. After recording several albums with Virgin, with the band now featured Hansford Rowe on bass, Ross Record on guitar, Benoit Moerlen on vibes and Francois Causse on percussion. Moerlen signed with Arista Records in 1978 and recorded this excellent album partially in Mike Oldfield's studio. This edition has been remastered from the original analogue master tapes and fully restores the original album artwork.
Open Road/Windy Daze [Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....import 2 CD Set $24.99
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a newly re-mastered and expanded edition of the classic and highly regarded album Windy Daze by Open Road. The band was formed by drummer John Carr and bassist / guitarist Mike Thomson in 1970. Both Carr and Thomson had been part of Donovan's band for his 1970 album Open Road (Donovan's first album to be recorded after he had split with producer Mickie Most). Upon the completion of sessions Donovan undertook some live concerts with his new band, which he named Open Road. After performing some concerts in Europe, Donovan and Open Road performed at the legendary 1970 Isle of Wight festival before Donovan parted company with his band. Carr and Thomson began to perform as Open Road recruiting Simon Lanzon on keyboards and guitarist Barry Husband. Open Road were the first progressive group to sign with the newly formed Greenwich Gramophone label (a subsidiary of Chapter 1 Records) and they entered Olympic Studios in April 1971 to begin work on their only album - Windy Daze. Produced by Tony Reeves (bassist with Colosseum and later Greenslade), the album was completed at Morgan Studios in London and was a fine record which fused both folk and progressive influences and received critical praise. A follow up single, Swamp Fever b/w Lost and Found was released in February 1972, and Open Road entered Olympic Studios to record a second album with engineer Vic Smith (later better known as producer Vic Coppersmith Heaven). Entitled The Open Road, the album was designated a catalogue number by Greenwich Gramphone but for reasons now unclear failed to gain a release and the group disbanded. Original LP copies of Windy Daze remain hugely sought after by collectors of the progressive genre. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly re-mastered from recently discovered first generation original master tapes and has been expanded to a two-disc set include the band's 1972 single and their unreleased second album. The release also features an illustrated booklet with a new essay.
Alan Parsons/On Air ....import CD $14.99
This concept album as the name suggests, is an album dedicated to the skies and learning how to master the art of flying. It stands up to anything Alan Parsons did earlier under the 'Project' moniker. It has a nice laid-back sound with lots of interesting layers. Great to listen to on a good set of speakers or headphones."On Air" was the second album by Alan Parsons (without the "Project"). It is a somewhat underrated concept album on the theme of flight and the history of aviation, from the hot air balloons on the cover picture through to space travel. 10CCs Eric Stewart takes lead vocals for the soft ballad "Blown by the Wind," and the two "Blue Blue Sky" tracks which bookend the album.
Patto/And That's Jazz (Live 1971-1973) ....import CD + DVD $19.99

The Patto's virtuosity and eclecticism are in full swing as they perform an inspired set which includes most of their (then current) third album, Roll 'Em Smoke 'Em, to an enthusiastic but intimate crowd. Includes a never released Halsall composition "I'm Baroque" about their foreshortened tour of Australia supporting Joe Cocker. The previously unreleased footage includes the 'Pop Deux' broadcast from French TV and the full session for German TV's 'Beat Club' with blistering performances of "San Antone" and "The Man" - a song featured in the film Observe and Report. For a band whose legacy only continues to grow, historical recordings such as these are valuable treasures that surpasses any sonic limitations.
Patto/Give It All Away: Albums 1970-1973 ....import 4 CD Set $49.99
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of Give It All Away - The Albums 1970 -1973, a re-mastered four-disc clamshell box set of the four albums recorded by the legendary band Patto between 1970 and 1973; Patto, Hold Your Fire, Roll 'Em, Smoke 'Em, Put Another Line Out and Monkey's Bum. One of the truly great bands of the early 1970s, Patto featured a line-up comprising Mike Patto (vocals), Ollie Halsall (guitar, vibes, keyboards, vocals), Clive Griffiths (bass) and John Halsey (drums). The band arose from the ashes of the group Timebox and were graced by the presence of the stunning guitar playing of Ollie Halsall and a highly original and unique musical style that set them aside from their progressive rock contemporaries of the era. This, the band's self-titled debut album, was released in 1970 under a licensing agreement with Vertigo Records and featured classic tracks such as 'The Man,' 'San Antone' and 'Government Man.' Their 1971 follow up, Hold Your Fire was perhaps their most fully realized and acclaimed work thanks to outstanding compositions such as 'You, You Point Your Finger,' 'Hold Your Fire' and 'Air Raid Shelter.' Departing Vertigo in 1972, Patto recorded the album Roll 'Em, Smoke 'Em, Put Another Line Out. Alas, despite receiving critical acclaim for their live appearances and recorded work, the release failed to make any sales impact. The band entered the studio in the spring of 1973 to record their final work, Monkey's Bum. Sadly, the album failed to gain an official release upon completion and was consigned to the vaults. A rough mix of the album was bootlegged several times over the ensuing years before Monkey's Bum finally received an official release in 2017. Give It All Away - The Albums 1970 -1973 is a fine collection of music, by an unfairly overlooked band, and this esteemed legacy - from one of Britain's most genuine and original bands - will go some way to rectify their status in rock history.
Annette Peacock/X-Dreams ....CD $17.99
Arriving in 1978, X-Dreams is an infatuating and resolutely feminine free-form exploration of the politics and dynamics of sex. Assembling a crew of 22 musicians (including Mick Ronson on guitar and Bill Bruford on drums), Peacock delivers impassioned vocal performances alongside an improvisational jazz-rock fusion masterpiece of musicianship, almost all of which was recorded in one take.
Pinder Brothers/Melancholy Sea ....CD $15.99
The Pinder Brothers' new 'Melancholy Sea' makes waves with sing-a-long melodies and crafty alt-rock rrrangements. Sons of Moody Blues founding member Mike Pinder carry on the tradition, as their own SoCal followers continue to burgeon. The Pinder Brothers may not be the first pair of siblings to proffer an intrinsic fusion of vocal harmonies, but add to the mix crafty sing-a-long melodies and enough of a rock edge to engage the masses. That is the musical mantra of these brothers in arms' third full-length release "Melancholy Sea." Of course, the many current fans of Matthew and Michael Lee are already aware of one other essential factor. Let's call it pedigree. Their dad Mike Pinder was a founding member of the legendary Moody Blues, who not only fulfilled the enduring band's mellotron duties, but also contributed harmony vocals. The Pinder Brothers mesh the harmonies of Crosby, Stills and Nash alongside the songwriting style of Simon & Garfunkel, and ultimately add their own modern spin. Listeners will hear all of this and more in "Melancholy Sea," which the pair wrote, played and arranged. The project's masterfully penned lyrics create a sonic tapestry that dazzles the ear....much like the colors of a seashell inspire the eye. The brothers' voices harmonize beautifully, accompanied by arrangements that deftly ease from a bed of crunchy electric guitars into warm overdriven tones that layer as naturally as sheets and a blanket. It could be said that The Pinder Brothers have '60s Brit-rock heritage in their DNA, with a healthy dose of California style thrown in. Hailing from Northern California, Matt and Michael Pinder grew up playing music and performing together whenever possible. How could they not, with the sounds of the lost chord echoing softly in their ears. Thankfully, Mike Pinder's innate talent has been passed on to his sons - who are now creating their own legacy.

Boxed set comprised of 3 digisleeved packages each containing 2 CDs. Over seven hours of audio - restored and remastered, 50-page booklet with liner notes by Richard Morton Jack featuring archive memorabilia and photos. Drawn from Saturday Club, Beat Room, Top Gear and Sounds of the '70s, plus more recently the Mark Lamarr and Marc Riley shows. BBC broadcast material from 1964-2018 curated by Colin Harper. Features a recent interview by Chris Welch with founder member and guitarist Dick Taylor. In the golden age of the British R&B revival, few groups created as much excitement and controversy as The Pretty Things. They came up alongside the Rolling Stones in the early 1960s, but were deemed by critics and fans as wilder and bluesier than even Mick Jagger and company. When long-haired Phil May sang and shook his maracas with manic intensity, audiences and record buyers knew they were in for a wild ride. But The Pretty Things took their music seriously and developed into one of the more innovative rock bands of the '70s, much admired by groups and artists from Led Zeppelin to David Bowie. As well as recording hit singles and albums, the Pretties were also heard live in action on BBC radio shows that captured their dynamic performances with remarkable clarity and presence. We are fortunate that this audio heritage has been carefully preserved and has now been digitally restored for future generations to enjoy. Repertoire is proud to present this comprehensive 6 CD collection that provides over seven hours of non-stop R&B, original songs and new concepts.

Return to Forever/Returns: Live [Ear + Eye Series] ....2 CD + Blu-Ray Set $32.99
Return to Forever were at the forefront of jazz/rock fusion in the seventies like their contemporaries Weather Report and Mahavishnu Orchestra. They were formed by the great Chick Corea. Return to Forever hit their commercial and artistic peak with a string of albums in the mid-seventies, featuring the line-up of Chick Corea on keyboards, Stanley Clarke on bass, Al Di Meola on guitar and Lenny White on drums. In 2008 this classic line-up reunited for their first tour in 25 years and proved that their musicianship and the chemistry within the band were as strong as ever. Soft Machine/Paris 1970 ....2 CD Set $24.99
Soft Machine, live from the Theatre de la Musique, Paris on March 2nd, 1970. Despite their gradual dissolution in the late '70s, Soft Machine's stock has never been higher thanks to a steady stream of archival recordings that continue to surface and throw light on the importance of varying line-ups. The quintet version of the band, captured at the Theatre de la Musique, Paris on March 2nd, 1970 for France's Pop Deux TV show features that short lived and often lamented line-up of Lyn Dobson and Elton Dean on their respective reeds accompanying the obligatory Hopper, Ratledge, and Wyatt. The Paris date in March caught Dobson near the end of his tenure which came two weeks later. Suffice to say, the historical value of this recording is undoubted while rooted in the five-man line-up that was joyous, but sadly all too brief. London Calling bends your ear with a rare, captivating performance from our beloved Softs, live in Paris, 1970. Covering their first two albums and songs exclusive to performances from this period. Includes the entire Pop Deux TV broadcast. Visually interesting, but moreover, stunning to hear. Personnel: Mike Ratledge- Lowrey organ, Hohner pianet; Robert Wyatt - drums, vocals; Hugh Hopper - bass; Elton Dean - alto sax, Saxello; Lyn Dobson- soprano sax, flute, voice, harmonica. Includes full color, eight-page booklet with background liners and rare images. Digitally remastered for greatly enhanced sound quality.
Soft Works/Abracadabra in Osaka ....2 CD Set $28.99
Elton Dean: saxello, alto sax, Fender Rhodes
Allan Holdsworth: guitar
Hugh Hopper: bass guitar
John Marshall: drums
The idea of Soft Works first arose in 2000 as an initiate of Leonardo Pavkovic, to revive and reconnect some of the great musicians who had played in Soft Machine. Soft Works, with the above line up, was the first solid iteration of this idea, although the band wasn't long lived and recorded one studio album and played only 11 concerts. Eventually, with some lineup shifts, the band became Soft Machine Legacy and now are known simply as Soft Machine. This is a great live documentation of four extraordinary and legendary players touching on their legacy, but generally performing new music, from their studio album. Dedicated to the loving memory of Elton Dean, Hugh Hopper and Allan Holdsworth. With love, John Marshall and Leonardo Pavkovic. Recorded live in Osaka, August 11, 2003. 28 page booklet.

Strawbs/Settlement ....import CD $18.99
Strawbs/Settlement [180 Gram Vinyl] ....import Vinyl LP $34.99
Esoteric Antenna is delighted to announce the release of the new studio album by the legendary band Strawbs. Settlement is the latest album recorded by Strawbs, more than 50 years on from the band's first major label release. The album comes at a time of political and social upheaval, which the lyrics and melodies of the songs reflect. Undeterred by the fact that 'business as usual' was not possible because of the global Covid-19 pandemic - working remote from one another, from their own home studios - Settlement is a remarkable achievement. David Cousins, leader of Strawbs says: "Settlement is something extraordinary. I can't think of another band who can go from metal grunge to the lilt of an Irish ghost story - or from a song in 6/8 time to singing in 4/4 over a 5/4 backbeat - in half an hour. The lyrics reflect the times we have been living through and I'm immensely proud of what we've achieved." Settlement is produced by Blue Weaver who played with Strawbs and Bee Gees in their 1970s heydays. The recording was coordinated from Blue's studio in Germany, where he now lives. Strawbs are David Cousins, Dave Lambert, Chas Cronk, Tony Fernandez and Dave Bainbridge. Special guests on the album are John Ford, another former member of Strawbs, who lives in New York, Cathryn Craig, with her lovely voice and unmistakable Southern lilt, who lives in Northern Ireland, and bass player Schalk Joubert, with whom David Cousins performed in South Africa at the beginning of the year. "There comes a time when every Settlement is due!"
