Jon Anderson/Animation [Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....import CD $20.99
Digitally remastered and expanded edition of the 1982 solo album by Jon Anderson, Animation. The album was recorded throughout 1981 during Jon's first hiatus from Yes, with whom he had become an internationally known vocalist and songwriter and followed on from his acclaimed albums Olias of Sunhillow and Song of Seven. Working with co-producer Neil Kernon and a host of talented musicians such as David Scancious, Clem Clempson, Simon Phillips, Stefano Cerri, Chris Rainbow, Jack Bruce and Dave Lawson, Anderson created an album that absorbed the latest electronic instrument technology whilst retaining an ambitious and progressive edge. Animation was a UK top fifty hit upon it's release by Polydor Records in June 1982 and spawned two UK singles, of which the non-album track 'Spider' acted, strangely, as a B-side to both releases. Animation has since become a favourite album among aficionados of Jon Anderson's work. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly remastered from the original Polydor Records master tapes and is expanded to include the single B-side track 'Spider' and also a demo from the early 1980s of the lengthy piece 'The Spell.' This reissue restores the original album artwork in a digipack and the booklet features a new essay with an exclusive interview with Jon Anderson.

Rare Bird/Beautiful Scarlet: Recordings 1969-1975 ....import 6 CD Set $59.99
Digitally remastered six CD set featuring all of the albums and singles released by legendary band Rare Bird on both the Charisma and Polydor labels between 1969 and 1975. Formed in 1969 with a line up featuring Graham Field (organ), Dave Kaffinetti (keyboards), Steve Gould (vocals, bass) and Mark Ashton (drums), Rare Bird had the distinction of being the first act to be released on Tony Stratton Smith's gloriously eclectic label Charisma records (also the home of Genesis, The Nice and Van Der Graaf Generator to name but a few) and for their excellent self-titled debut album released in late 1969 and their 1970 international hit single Sympathy. Despite selling a million copies worldwide, neither their debut album or the excellent follow up As Your Mind Flies By (issued in 1970) enjoyed the sales of their debut single. This lack of commercial success saw the departure of Graham Field and Mark Ashton, leaving Gould and Kaffinetti to form a new line-up in 1971 adding Andy "Ced" Curtis (lead guitar), Fred Kelly (drums) and Paul Karas (bass, vocals) to the band, with Steve Gould undertaking the role of second guitarist in addition to that of vocalist. Signing to Polydor Records in late 1971, Rare Bird recorded the excellent album Epic Forest the following year. The album was lavishly packaged with early copies featuring a poster and a bonus 7-inch EP with three additional tracks. In 1973 the band changed line-ups once more with departure of Paul Karas. He was replaced by Nic Potter (previously with Van Der Graaf Generator) and the band recorded the fine album Somebody's Watching the same year. The album featured guest John Wetton on bass for the track "Dollars." Despite the excellence of the band's work, commercial success still eluded them. In 1974 Andy Rae replaced Nic Potter on bass and Rare Bird recorded their final album, Born Again. The release of the album led to touring activity, including a memorable spot opening for label mates Barclay James Harvest at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in June 1974. However, the following year Rare Bird disbanded. This new anthology features newly re-mastered versions of all of Rare Bird's albums and singles, with Epic Forest being re-mastered from recently discovered first generation master tapes for the first time. The set also features an additional previously unreleased CD of the band's entire live set recorded by Polydor Records at the Theatre Royal, London in June 1974. Also included is an illustrated booklet featuring exclusive interviews with Steve Gould and Mark Ashton and a facsimile of the rare poster given with initial copies of Epic Forest.

RPWL/God Has Failed - Live & Personal ....CD $14.99
RPWL/God Has Failed - Live & Personal ....DVD $17.99
RPWL/God Has Failed - Live & Personal ....Blu-Ray $17.99
November 2020 was supposed to bring a large-scale, multi-week anniversary tour to mark the 20th year since the release of their debut album "God Has Failed," but of course things turned out differently. So what do you do when you have a perfectly rehearsed band, but the opportunity to perform is pulled out from under your feet? Right, you film a live studio session of the entire album. Basically, it can be cautiously said that RPWL live out the concept of their 2012 album "Beyond Man and Time." In a way, all artists are currently sitting in Plato's cave, only kind of seeing a reflection of the real world, whatever that may and will look like. "God Has Failed" represents the band's early days before they began to give themselves overarching concepts for their releases every now and then, starting in 2005. No expense was spared on the package. Furthermore, this special 'concert' will be released as a Blu-ray and DVD. The original line-up takes to memory lane and revels sympathetically in the reminiscences that this production naturally brings.
Ozric Tentacles/Vitamin Enhanced ....6 CD Set $85.99
Limited remastered six CD set from psychedelic experimentalists Ozric Tentacles. Born at Stonehenge Festival in 1983 the band gained an initial fanbase through a string of self-released cassettes. These simple artefacts with photocopied inserts and rainbow, spray painted labels sold in vast quantities at festivals, at the infamous Club Dog and through their mail order to fund and support their journey through the '80s. These six albums on cassette became so treasured that in 1993 they were remastered and packaged together as a limited edition six CD box set called Vitamin Enhanced, released on the band's own Dovetail Records label. It is time to celebrate Ozric Tentacles with a new deluxe book edition of Vitamin Enhanced. The set contains all 6 of the cassette albums on CD, having been beautifully and painstakingly remastered by Ed Wynne and also features a 48-page book with the original Richard Allen liner notes and a new foreword by Ed Wynne.

Baro Prog-Jets/Utopie ....import CD $27.99
Alberto Molesini, aka Baro (with Baro Prog-Jets), is back. Bassist, singer and multi-instrumentalist from Verona who shared his journey with La Sintesi, Elam/Baxnug from Milan, Hydra and Marygold. His musical story in progressive rock area is now 40+ years old, however his first two works - so-called prog-jets - dating back to the '80s were published for the first time only in 2019. Now the story is about to be enriched by a new chapter, a concept named "Utopie," which tells of forms of coexistence born of violence or deception that do not keep their promises. It should be better approached, therefore, as a unitary musical journey visually set in the fantasy artworks of Kellepics, an escape aboard Susannp4's cute balloons, artists met in the virtual city of Pixabay. After the first song, written long ago for La Sintesi with Italian lyrics (Nicola Rotta), everything becomes decidedly prog with three suites around 15 minutes each, in which the listener may enjoy an accurate songwriting and the ability to ease complex passages and architectures of considerable complexity. Prog rock that can be defined as classic, full of references especially to Yes and King Crimson that the artist has made his own and personally reworked. The first draft dates back to 2004 but, as for the previous works, the construction site has been kept open for several years, evolving in the sounds and arrangements up to the final version.
Tasavallan Presidentti/Changing Times and Movements - Live in Finland And Sweden 1970-1971 ....import 2 CD Set $29.99
Tasavallan Presidentti were, together with Wigwam, the pioneers of the Finnish progressive rock movement. Svart Records have an ongoing archive project with the band, the first fruit of which was the Live in Lambertland record in 2019, now sold out. Next in the series is the live compilation Changing Times and Movements. Whereas Live in Lambertland was a full live set with the band's latter day vocalist Eero Raittinen, the forthcoming double album is a documentary of Tasavallan Presidentti's early years with the English-born vocalist Frank Robson at the helm. The record consists of three live recordings from 1970 and 1971. The earliest shows date from the first ever Ruisrock festival in Turku, Finland 1970 and the Skeppsholmen Festival in Stockholm, Sweden the same summer. The album finishes with a live appearance at the Poppop Festival in Lappeenranta, Finland in 1971. These previously unheard archival finds present a showcase of the formidable presence that Tasavallan Presidentti had on stage in the early days in their career. Changing Times and Movements includes, in addition to live renditions of material from the band's first two studio albums, six tracks the band never recorded. Whirlwind Nightmare, The Old Woman and Gigolo were eventually recorded by the Finnish rock singer Kirka in the Finnish language, but this is the first time they're presented as Tasavallan Presidentti originals, in English. Going Back was a Frank Robson song which was abandoned when Robson left the band. Impressions of India ended up on Jukka Tolonen's first solo album, and Ain't Ya Coming Home is a Blodwyn Pig cover which the band often played live around the time.
Ian Carr/Belladonna ....CD $13.99
Official half-speed mastered re-issue of British trumpeter and bandleader Ian Carr's iconic jazz-fusion-rock hybrid 'Belladonna' from 1972. Originally released on the Vertigo label, complete with collectable 'swirl' record centre design, this sought-after jazz-rock-fusion rarity features some of the cream of the UK jazz musicians of the '70s. Comprised from groups such as Nucleus, Brian Auger's band, Soft Machine, Stan Tracy group, the players included Brian Smith (tenor and soprano saxophones, alto and bamboo flutes), legendary guitarist Allan Holdsworth, Dave MacRae (Fender electric piano), and bassist Roy Babbington, to name but a few. Seen as a benchmark point in Ian Carr's career, 'Belladonna' is awash with atmospheric excursions and ethereal qualities, as well as a darker fusion aesthetic and prog-rock sensibility from Holdsworth's exceptional guitar playing. The moody, yet funky, vibe of the album has echoes of Miles Davis' electronic era a la 'In a Silent Way.' The album is best enjoyed played in it's entirety. There are ebbs and flows with certain tracks shining along the way. Standouts include the beautiful down-tempo track 'Summer Rain,' which has a soundtrack / library style brilliance and emotional electric piano soloing. Though recorded in the '70s, the track has a timeless sound, a melancholic funk so often used in hip-hop and beat tape productions to this day. 'Mayday's Shaft-like long extended intro builds the drama until the percussive release when the drums drop at over three minutes in. To give a record of such quality the treatment it deserves, we have once again been lucky to enlist the service of mastering and lacquer cutting engineering don Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, to cut a brand-new half-speed master and let the music speak for itself.
Chester Thompson/Powerhouse ....CD $15.99
With long-standing stints in Tower of Power and Santana, Chester Thompson just might be the most decorated and distinguished keyboardist in all of rock and R&B, let alone of the Bay Area musical scene. It's little wonder that this 1971 album, then, is one of the rarest and most coveted albums on the highly collectible Black Jazz Records label. It's Thompson's debut record, cut a couple of years before he joined Tower of Power, with a smokin' band featuring fellow Black Jazz recording artist Rudolph Johnson on sax along with ace drummer Raymond Pounds (Pharoah Sanders, Stevie Wonder, Pointer Sisters) and trombonist Al Hall (Johnny Hammond, Freddie Hubbard, Eddie Harris). And, yes, Powerhouse comes by its title honestly. It's jazz, all right, but injected with a jolt of electricity courtesy of Thompson's Hammond B-3, and with just four tunes spread out over two sides, it's pretty much a nonstop groove. Newly remastered, and with liner notes featuring quotes from fellow Tower of Power member Dave Garibaldi and Bay Area keyboardist Todd Cochran, a.k.a. Bayet, that testify as to Chester Thompson's greatness, this is another long-lost triumph from the Black Jazz label.

Paul Simon/Still Crazy After All These Years ....SACD $39.99
'Exorcising personal demons and reflecting on midlife circumstance, Paul Simon frames Still Crazy After All These Years as a post-divorce statement yet retains cutting humor and lighthearted cynicism that make every song universally appealing. A succession of brooding vocals, jazz-laden arrangements, contagious hooks, and an appearance by the famed Muscle Shoals rhythm section further conspire to make the record a lasting template for mature pop music that offers meaningful contemplation of relationships, transitions, disillusionment, and responsibility. A chart-topping statement that coincided with Simon's ascent as a superstar solo artist, it now sounds more immediate, cunning, and refined courtesy of painstaking restoration. Mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity's numbered hybrid SACD enhances the music for generations to come. Featuring sublime sonics, it strips away remaining film and limitations to provide a clear, transparent, ultra-dynamic view of a record that won Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The expanse and depth of the soundstage, fullness of detail, reach of the omnipresent electric piano, and natural rise and decay of individual notes will leave you breathless. The newfound immediacy, presence, texture, and dark-black backgrounds showcase the scope and craft of Simon's alluring melodies - as well as the intentional conflict between the tense lyrical content and the deceivingly pleasant aura. Still Crazy After All These Years resonates with a decided nasty streak and delves into adult romance with rapier wit.

The Lyrics of Syd Barrett ....Hardcover Book $22.99
Despite just a three-year tenure with the band, co-founder Syd Barrett's influence on Pink Floyd was profound and long-lasting. If his guitar gave the early Pink Floyd a distinctive hallucinatory sound, his often obscure and surreal lyrics were perhaps even more intoxicating. The complete lyrics of Syd Barrett - 52 songs written for Pink Floyd and during his subsequent solo career - are presented together for the first time, along with rare photos and artwork, to form this beautifully illustrated book. Compiled in collaboration with the Syd Barrett estate, and featuring a foreword from former Pink Floyd manager Peter Jenner and a comprehensive introduction by biographer Rob Chapman, The Lyrics of Syd Barrett delves deep into one of rock'n'roll's most imaginative and searing minds.
Sagan/Anti-Ark ....CD $16.99
Sagan is Blevin Blectum (Blectum from Blechdom), Jay Lesser (live touring member of Matmos) and Wobbly (collaborator with Negativland, Thurston Moore Group, Dieter Moebius & Tim Story, Fred Frith, Huun-Huur-Tu, etc), three solo artists from the San Francisco Bay Area's legendarily weird electronic music scene, coming together in shared love of Space. Fifteen years in the making, their second album Anti-Ark arrives - a recursive love letter to the early decades of space travel and the High Frontier, when the lines between hard scientific research and emotional wanderlust melted away to reveal an optimistic vision for mankind's shared future. Explosively kinetic, searingly romantic, the album draws on the trio's formative influences: the electronic space music which Carl Sagan's 1980 TV program Cosmos brought to a global audience. Sagan channels the Cosmos sound universe into new compositions, performed live and then folded in on themselves through countless edits into a molecular quilt. The album's micro-bursts of ambient, meditative and kosmiche are woven into new and denser signals-flying by as if picked up by some satellite hurtling through every civilized universe, moving faster than known physics allows. Any given ten second stretch of Anti-Ark contains a greater density of sound design than might be typically deployed over the course of entire tracks-an attempted inventory not of the objects within the ecosystem, but of the relationships between them. Set against today's closing windows of opportunity, each sound here contains it's own melody and serves as a note within a larger one, a stream of that information which needs to be sung before it can be known.
Steve Von Till/A Deep Voiceless Wilderness ....CD $17.99
Steve Von Till has made a life's work out of seeking the elemental. With a solo discography that stretches back more than two decades, he has toiled in a shadow realm, peeling back layers of reality in a never-ending search for true meaning and raw emotion. A Deep Voiceless Wilderness strips back the veil even further. An achingly beautiful ambient work with neo-classical leanings, the album is a hallucinatory and elegant rumination on our disconnect from the natural world, each other, and ultimately ourselves. For some listeners, the album may recall the work of modern composers like Johann Johannsson, Brian Eno or Gavin Bryars. For Von Till it's about surrendering to the spirit of place and to the original intent behind his 2020 solo album, No Wilderness Deep Enough. That album marked a significant first for Von Till: it was his first solo record without a guitar in hand. Instead, Von Till intoned powerful and thought-provoking lyrics over piano, cello, mellotron and analog synthesizers. A Deep Voiceless Wilderness is that same album without Von Till's words. "This is how I originally heard this piece of music," he says. "Without the voice as an anchor or earthbound narrative, these pieces have a broader wingspan. They become something else entirely and unfold in a more expansive way. The depth of the synths, juxtaposed with the strings and French horn, have space to develop and allow the listener to imagine their own story."
Durutti Column/Sex and Death ....2 CD Set $20.99
Two CDs. Deluxe digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1995 album from the legendary Manchester band. The writing and recording of Sex and Death closed an uncertain period for Vini Reilly and the group following the collapse of Factory Records in 1992. Stand-out tracks include 'Anthony,' dedicated to Wilson. Guest musicians include viola player John Metcalfe, vocalist Ruth-Ann Boyle (later to form hitmakers Olive with Tim Kellett), programmer Martin Jackson (Magazine, Swing Out Sister) and bassist Peter Hook, then on furlough from New Order post-Republic.

3.2/Third Impression ....CD $14.99
Robert Berry returns with a second 3.2 album, "Third Impression." The project is a continuation of the band 3, which Berry was in with Carl Palmer and the late great Keith Emerson. In October 2015, conversations about a new "3" album started between Robert Berry and Frontiers President, Serafino Perugino as Robert had been speaking to Keith Emerson about releasing the long delayed "3" follow up album. Along with renewed fan interest in the band and those conversations, Berry had sparked revived enthusiasm from Keith Emerson for pursuing the project. The exchange of musical ideas and song collaborations ultimately paved the groundwork for 3.2's first album, "The Rules Have Changed." Everything was set. Song ideas, studio time, record contract... and then, that dark day. Emerson's untimely death made the album an uncertainty. Robert was left with Keith Emerson's final musical ideas for the project. From old cassette tapes, keyboard parts written over the phone, to long discussions about style, the framework of the album was set and ready to be produced. After several months of grieving and contemplation about what to do with these co-written songs and musical fragments from Emerson, Robert decided to resume work on the material that was created and craft a record that would ultimately be a fitting tribute to Keith Emerson's musical legacy and at the same time re-energize and update the musical style started with '3' some 30 years ago. The final result was 3.2, a reboot of the original "3" project. The debut album released in 2018 is a record that deserves to be heard by each and every fan of the great Keith Emerson and includes some exquisite musical parts. And the follow up, Third Impression, is no lesser than it's predecessor, mixing epic songs with more melodic and AOR moments. It's final track, the nine minute 'Never,' is one more Emerson/Berry original with Keith's trademark style all over it.
Patto/And That's Jazz (Live 1971-1973) ....import CD + DVD $19.99

The Patto's virtuosity and eclecticism are in full swing as they perform an inspired set which includes most of their (then current) third album, Roll 'Em Smoke 'Em, to an enthusiastic but intimate crowd. Includes a never released Halsall composition "I'm Baroque" about their foreshortened tour of Australia supporting Joe Cocker. The previously unreleased footage includes the 'Pop Deux' broadcast from French TV and the full session for German TV's 'Beat Club' with blistering performances of "San Antone" and "The Man" - a song featured in the film Observe and Report. For a band whose legacy only continues to grow, historical recordings such as these are valuable treasures that surpasses any sonic limitations.
Ollie Halsall/Lovers Leaping ....CD $11.99
Welcome remaster and repackage of British guitarist Ollie Halsall's collection of one man band demos recorded in 1979. It's important to note this is not a 'guitar album' but it is more about Ollie the singer/songwriter, with results that are deeply revealing. These are 3-minute pop masterpieces which owe far more to Lennon & McCartney than to John Cale or Kevin Ayers and the rest of Ollie's more indulgent associations. The original demos fall in such a perfect sequence it is hard to imagine them not being intended as a complete album, which is how they remain presented here. Completing the package is Ollie's self-portrait on the cover. Limited pressing. 8 page booklet with essay by Barry Monks and rare, unseen photographs.
Jean-Michel Jarre/Amazonia ....import CD $24.99
Jean-Michel Jarre has composed and recorded a 52 minute musical score for 'Amazonia,' a new project by award winning photographer and filmmaker Sebastiao Salgado, for the Philharmonic Paris. The exhibition launches on April 7th and will later travel to South America, Roma and London. 'Amazonia' is an immersive exhibition focussing on the Brazilian Amazon, featuring more than 200 photographs and other media by Salgado. He travelled the region for six years, capturing the forest, the rivers, the mountains and the people who live there, and most of the work will be seen publicly for the first time. At the heart of the exhibit is an invitation to see, hear and think about the future of biodiversity and the place of humans in the living world. JMJs accompanying sound-creation is a symphonic world which will engulf visitors to the exhibit in the sounds of the forest. Using a blend of electronic and orchestral instruments with other real-life natural sounds, the score has also been recorded in binaural audio, for a truly immersive experience. "I wanted to avoid the ethnomusicological approach, or creating background music. So I conceived a sort of toolbox containing musical elements - orchestral and electronic - intended to recreate or evoke the timbre of natural sounds, to which I added sounds from the environment, and finally ethnic sources (voices, songs, and instruments) from the sound archives of the Ethnography Museum of Geneva (MEG). I approached the Amazon with respect, in a poetic and impressionistic way. I chose the vocal and sound elements in their evocative dimension, rather than trying to be faithful to a particular ethnic group. It seemed interesting to me to fantasize the forest. It carries with it a powerful imagination; for both Westerners and Amerindians. This music also evokes a form of nomadism, as if sounds appear and disappear during a migration. It was necessary to go back to the principles of orchestration of the sounds of nature, to work from sounds which follow one another randomly, but which can compose a harmony or a dissonance. And as in any symphony, the work has moments of clarity or tension." The CD & VINYL come with an access code to download the Binaural Sound and 5.1. Sound.
Pierre Moerlen's Gong/Downwind ....import CD $21.99
Eagerly awaited re-press - digitally remastered edition of this acclaimed album by Pierre Moerlen's Gong. By the late 1970s, percussionist Pierre Moerlen had taken over the leadership of Gong and had steered the band away from psychedelic space rock and took the band into a jazz rock direction, one in which the band excelled. After recording several albums with Virgin, with the band now featured Hansford Rowe on bass, Ross Record on guitar, Benoit Moerlen on vibes and Francois Causse on percussion. Moerlen signed with Arista Records in 1978 and recorded this excellent album partially in Mike Oldfield's studio. Oldfield guested on the superb lengthy title track with fellow guest Steve Winwood, whilst Mick Taylor appeared on the track 'What You Know.' This edition has been remastered from the original analogue master tapes and fully restores the original album artwork.

John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band [Super Deluxe Edition] ....6 CD + 2 Blu-Ray + Hardbound Book Box Set $129.99

John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band - The Ultimate Collection, an immersive, deep listening
experience and in-depth exploration of what John described as "the best thing I've
ever done." The Ultimate Collection puts listeners in the center of the studio and
explores the album's 1970 recording sessions at EMI Studios 2 & 3, Abbey Road along
with Lennon's post-Beatles singles, "Give Peace a Chance," "Cold
Turkey" and "Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)" from inception to the final
master through scores of unreleased and rare demos, rehearsals, outtakes, jams and studio
conversations, revealing how these beloved songs came to be. Everything in this expansive
box set has been newly mixed from scratch from brand new 192kHz/24bit hi-res transfers. In
addition to the various new mixes, the set boasts 87 never-before-heard recordings.
From the haunting, funereal bells and emotional wails of opening track "Mother,"
it was immediate - John Lennon's first solo studio album was unlike anything he had made
before. Recorded in 1970, shortly after the demise of The Beatles, John Lennon/Plastic Ono
Band saw John stripping away the artifice and ornamentation for a visceral artistic
exorcism that was confessional, raw, painfully honest, and revelatory. Inspired by the
primal scream psychotherapy he and wife Yoko Ono had been practicing with Dr. Arthur
Janov, John, joined by the minimalist Plastic Ono Band - Ringo Starr on drums and Klaus
Voorman on bass, and producer Phil Spector - confronted his demons, professed his love for
his wife, railed against false idols and declared the dream was over on his most personal
album. Today it stands as the towering achievement of his solo career - the moment the
biggest rock star in the world bared his soul for all to hear - as real as it was
revolutionary. This historical, remixed and remastered collection features 159
tracks across six CDs and two Blu-ray audio discs for more than 11 engrossing hours of
music and includes two postcards ("Who Are The Plastic Ono Band?" and "You
Are The Plastic Ono Band") a "War Is Over!" poster and a comprehensive
132-page hardback book with lyrics, rare photos, tape box images, memorabilia and
extensive notes. Designed and edited by Simon Hilton, the Compilation Producer and
Production Manager of the Ultimate Collection series, the book tells the story behind each
of the songs and the making of the album in John & Yoko's words and the words of those
who worked alongside them, through archival and brand new interviews.
The single CD edition includes John Lennon's classic debut solo album plus three singles, featuring John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Klaus Voormann, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston & Phil Spector. Completely remixed from the original multi-tracks at Abbey Road Studios by engineer Paul Hicks, overseen by producer Yoko Ono Lennon. Miles Davis & Various Artists/Directions in Music 1969-1973 ....import CD $16.99
UK collection. In 1970, Miles Davis released Bitches Brew, which crystalized the trumpeter and bandleader's experiments in rhythm, electronics and musical structure which he had been building on over the previous three years. The album has since become one of the most influential in musical history and was joined over the next couple of years by "Jack Johnson" and "On the Corner" in defining the future of music. Miles was the master bandleader and his LPs at the time declared that these were his 'Directions in Music,' but he forged them with the help of a hand-picked group of musicians who proved themselves good enough to share his space on stage and in the studio. These players would all become central to jazz's continued relevance and many would go on to record best-selling jazz records of their own. This compilation looks at the records that they made around the time they played with Miles and how they fed into or were fed by their time in his group. So we have Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul with versions of tracks they cut with Miles. Herbie Hancock's journey into the electronic instruments that Miles convinced him to play, and Keith Jarrett's firm rejection of them. Lonnie Liston Smith borrows the Indian percussion from "On the Corner" for his take on electronic funk. Chick Corea, John McLaughlin and Gary Bartz all show their distinctive talents that were allowed to shine in Miles' band. As a bonus, we have Miles' musicians alongside Betty Davis (his wife at the time) on a take of Cream's 'Politician Man' and Miles' 1970 group live at The Cellar Door on Joe Zawinul's 'Directions.'

Bob Drake/Planets & Animals ....CD $16.99
A pandemic is just an opportunity for some people to spend even more time in the studio. Bob has his public, amounting to a minor cult, and his new CD - exquisitely recorded (in a previous life he was an L.A. studio engineer for the great and the good) is a compact suite of short, dense, twisty, jaw-dropping - and highly unusual - songs; a bit of a whirlwind for the uninitiated, but still surprisingly accessible. It's his 10th release for ReR, each exploring some new aspect of songwriting, arrangement or production. This time he's added a small menagerie of newly invented instruments, to augment his already extensive acoustic and electronic instrumentarium - and the band of Bob that plays them has seldom been larger or tighter. Beautifully packaged with impressive fold-out artwork by the incomparable Joe Mruk. Bob Drake has played a lot of instruments with - and has engineered - all manner of bands, from the early 1970s. From 1978-1989 he played an important role in Denver's underground music scene, and was a founding member of both Thinking Plague and Hail. In the early 1990s, when he was living in Los Angeles, he wound up engineering sessions with just about everybody from Ice Cube to Shirley MacLaine and it was there that he met David Kerman and became part of 5UU's. It was also around this time that he began to write and record his own solo albums. Since 1994 he has lived in his home studio in Southern France, where he has played on and recorded and/or mixed hundreds of albums by artists from around the world. He is still a regular member of the Peter Blegvad Quintet, The Science Group and Vril. And, wearing a different hat, he is also well known for his definitive re-masterings of classic albums by Art Bears, Henry Cow, ZNR, Cassiber and others.

Bruce had never streamed a live show before and most of the songs had never been performed solo before (some had never been performed at all). "I played my first show, diving headfirst into the unknown and I soon learned how many people had enjoyed it and that resulted in another three sessions over the following weeks, playing songs from the 20 years I had been writing with The Pineapple Thief and more recently my solo work. " Over the last half-decade, The Pineapple Thief, led by Bruce Soord and bolstered by the involvement of master drummer Gavin Harrison, has rapidly ascended to the upper echelons of Europe's alternative rock scene. September 2020 saw the release of the band's universally acclaimed 'Versions of the Truth.' The album was due to be followed, almost immediately, by an extensive tour, which due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation was postponed. Bruce Soord, not wanting to disappoint fans, announced a solo acoustic live streamed performance of songs taken from The Pineapple Thief's extensive catalogue. Due to the success of the initial performance, one session turned into four across the summer. Bruce Soord explains, "Back in the spring of 2020 I decided to perform a live acoustic show from my attic studio. I figured I could set up something with a bit more production than just a face peering down a mobile phone. I created a little haven of guitars, pedals, loopers, microphones and webcams and mixed them all together ready to send out to the world. " This four CD set also features three bonus tracks 'A Loneliness,' 'Barely Breathing' alongside an additional performance of 'White Mist' taken from a 'best of 'session that streamed in December.

Oberon/A Midsummer's Night Dream [Deluxe Edition] ....import 2 CD Set $24.99
Recorded by students at the start of their summer holidays, Oberon's self-financed, 99-copies-only 1971 album "A Midsummer's Night Dream" is one of the rarest, most expensive artefacts to emerge from the primordial soup of the early seventies British underground scene. More importantly, it also boasts a reputation as one of the most vital, with one commentator suggesting that "at least one of the few copies pressed should be preserved in the British Museum." Having featured tracks from the album on our heavily-praised three CD British underground folk collections Dust on the Nettles and Sumer Is Icumen In, the Grapefruit label now celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the making of "A Midsummer's Night Dream" by issuing the album in its entirety. With a second disc comprising a live show recorded roughly three months before the album, this remastered two CD digipak edition - featuring rare photos and a new essay on the band - is the definitive release of a fascinating dropped stitch in the fabric of the early seventies underground folk cosmology.

The meditative, ambient minimalism of Steve Roach's classic 1983-86 Quiet Music series is re-released in it's entirety with a meticulously remastered 35th anniversary 3CD edition. The luscious quality and subtle tonal beauty reveal the essence-of-tone of the multi-track master. Originally published on cassette and later in a truncated 2CD edition, Projekt now presents this landmark album as Roach envisioned it. Created in respect for silence, Quiet Music originates from the same era as Roach's classic 1984 release Structures from Silence. This series finds the gentle electronics of synthesizers mixing with flute, electric piano and natural sounds flowing like breath, enveloping the listener in a sustained, delicate, translucent atmosphere. Harold Budd, Los Angeles, 1986: "I think Steve Roach's Quiet Music is his best album. It's not that it's simply pretty (which it is), but there's an odd edge lurking in the background that moves it miles away from 'New Age' torpor. This is a lovely album from a composer working at the top of his skills." Today, these pieces stand as a cornerstone in body-work, yoga, and healing therapies. The soothing, introspective nature of Quiet Music flows at a time-suspending pace, gently evolving and using space to expand and explore the essence of silence. The space between the notes and the breathing quality brings the listener to a deeper awareness of the present moment. A timeless masterpiece.
Philip Glass/Itaipu: The Canyon ....import CD $15.99
Itaipu is a place between Brazil and Paraguay and hosts a large hydro-electric dam. This album is a work of massive proportions much like the creation of the Itaipu dam. On this work Glass makes good use of a heavy brass section combined with a large chorus and is around 40 minutes in length, spread over 4 movements. The extensive choral work is written in the language of the Giuranni Indians. Glass often chooses obscure languages for the effect of distance. This is a powerful pair of compositions and it is a good coupling on this recording. On the opener "Itaipu" and the closing track "The Canyon" the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and chorus with Robert Shaw do a truly grand job of performance. It's a superb Glass work and a real classic of the '90s.
John Zorn/Chaos Magick ....CD $18.99
Nothing is true, everything is permitted. Chaos Magick is a contemporary magical practice based on the ideas of Austin Osman Spare. Remarkably inclusive, it embraces and has influenced the work of William Burroughs, Robert Anton Wilson, Aleister Crowley and many others. Inspired by these magical practices, Zorn enlists the three members of his most powerful 21st century ensemble Simulacrum with special guest Brian Marsella on electric piano into this eclectic new quartet Chaos Magick. A fast moving, improvisational and intensely focused ensemble that draws upon classical, jazz, funk, improvisation, metal and more. This music is even crazier than Electric Masada, a must for all fans of the outer realms!
Solar Fields/Reflective Frequencies ....2 CD Set $18.99
Spacey scenarios, ambient textures and selected beats which haven't aged a single day still make Reflective Frequencies just as groundbreaking, dreamy and ispiring as in 2001, that you can now enjoy in a double digi CD and triple trifold LP.
Dwiki Dharmawan/Hari Ketiga ....2 CD Set $24.99
The foundation of this massive work is a series of improvisations at La Casa Murada on May 17, 2017 involving Dharmawan (piano, electric piano, synthesizer, harmonium), Boris Salvoldelli (vocals and effects), Markus Reuter (Touch Guitar and electronics), and Asaf Sirkis (drums). These improvisations, some of which were quite lengthy, were then edited into backing tracks (in a manner somewhat like what Teo Macero used on Bitches Brew and other Miles Davis albums) by Pavkovic, and then Salvoldelli added more layers of vocals in collaboration with writer Alessandro Ducoli, who helped develop a cosmic storyline involving the destiny of the planet Earth and all its inhabitants. Dharmawan contributed some field recordings from Indonesia for another layer of sound. The result is a double CD set two and a half hours in length full of music that has been astonishing listeners since parts of it started sneaking out a couple of months ago. This is a stunning example of what can happen when musicians are encouraged to reach beyond their comfort zones, to do things they might never have tried in more structured situations.
Steve Cropper/Fire It Up ....CD $16.99
The term "Guitar Hero" is bandied about loosely these days. Seems like all you have to do is look good holding the thing and you qualify. But if you ask the actual guitar heroes - like Brian May, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton - who THEIR guitar heroes are, Steve Cropper is definitely on the shortlist. If all he had done were the records with Otis Redding that would be enough, but shortly thereafter he was leaving his fingerprints on records by Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Johnny Taylor, Albert King, and virtually anybody worthy who came within earshot of Memphis. And to top it all off, how can we forget Booker T and the MGs and The Blues Brothers! He was a guitarist's guitarist, and a songwriter's songwriter. Fire It Up is Steve Cropper's first album of new Soul/R&B material in 10 years. The album was produced by Steve and Jon Tiven, and will be released worldwide via Mascot Label Group/Provogue.

"Freak Out!" is the debut studio album from rock band The Mothers of Invention and has often been cited as one of rock music's first concept albums. In 1999 it was honoured with the Grammy Hall of Fame award and in 2003 was ranked among the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. "We're Only in It for the Money" is the third concept, studio album by The Mothers of Invention. Released in March 1968 by Verve Records, it encompasses rock, experimental and psychedelic rock music. The album artwork is a parody of The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". It is a direct negative of the Beatles cover and features Jimi Hendrix and a wax sculpture of Sonny Liston. The artwork that features Zappa and the band is now available as 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles printed on high quality board. "One Size Fits All" was released in 1975 and is the tenth and last studio album by Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention. It features three guest artists and one of Zappa's most complex tracks "Inca Roads." The artwork was created by previous and long-time Frank Zappa artist, Cal Schenkel and features a maroon sofa, which is a conceptual continuity clue archiving back to a then undocumented live suite. Soft Works/Abracadabra in Osaka ....2 CD Set $28.99
Elton Dean: saxello, alto sax, Fender Rhodes
Allan Holdsworth: guitar
Hugh Hopper: bass guitar
John Marshall: drums
The idea of Soft Works first arose in 2000 as an initiate of Leonardo Pavkovic, to revive and reconnect some of the great musicians who had played in Soft Machine. Soft Works, with the above line up, was the first solid iteration of this idea, although the band wasn't long lived and recorded one studio album and played only 11 concerts. Eventually, with some lineup shifts, the band became Soft Machine Legacy and now are known simply as Soft Machine. This is a great live documentation of four extraordinary and legendary players touching on their legacy, but generally performing new music, from their studio album. Dedicated to the loving memory of Elton Dean, Hugh Hopper and Allan Holdsworth. With love, John Marshall and Leonardo Pavkovic. Recorded live in Osaka, August 11, 2003. 28 page booklet.

Strawbs/Settlement [180 Gram Vinyl] ....import Vinyl LP $34.99
Esoteric Antenna is delighted to announce the release of the new studio album by the legendary band Strawbs. Settlement is the latest album recorded by Strawbs, more than 50 years on from the band's first major label release. The album comes at a time of political and social upheaval, which the lyrics and melodies of the songs reflect. Undeterred by the fact that 'business as usual' was not possible because of the global Covid-19 pandemic - working remote from one another, from their own home studios - Settlement is a remarkable achievement. David Cousins, leader of Strawbs says: "Settlement is something extraordinary. I can't think of another band who can go from metal grunge to the lilt of an Irish ghost story - or from a song in 6/8 time to singing in 4/4 over a 5/4 backbeat - in half an hour. The lyrics reflect the times we have been living through and I'm immensely proud of what we've achieved." Settlement is produced by Blue Weaver who played with Strawbs and Bee Gees in their 1970s heydays. The recording was coordinated from Blue's studio in Germany, where he now lives. Strawbs are David Cousins, Dave Lambert, Chas Cronk, Tony Fernandez and Dave Bainbridge. Special guests on the album are John Ford, another former member of Strawbs, who lives in New York, Cathryn Craig, with her lovely voice and unmistakable Southern lilt, who lives in Northern Ireland, and bass player Schalk Joubert, with whom David Cousins performed in South Africa at the beginning of the year. "There comes a time when every Settlement is due!"

Global Village Trucking Company/Smiling Revolution: Remastered Anthology ....import 2 CD Set $23.99
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of a new re-mastered 2 disc anthology by Global Village Trucking Company, "Smiling Revolution." Between March 1972 and their final performance at The Nottingham Boat Club in August 1975, the Global Village Trucking Company played 390 gigs. In that time, they gained many friends, fans and admirers. A Global Village gig was always a special occasion, full of unexpected moments and often passages of true inspiration. They were constantly pushing and stretching the boundaries, with a huge appetite for improvisation that often took them to giddy musical heights. It was for good reason that they were frequently referred to as Britain's answer to the Grateful Dead. And amongst this there was also a lot of damn fine playing, a repertoire of outstanding songs, a charismatic frontman, and an ability to take the audience with them to wherever they chose to go that night. They never lost sight of giving people a good time, and very few people left a show without a smile on their face. In that three and a half year period the key line up of the band was singer, chief songwriter and rhythm guitarist Jon Owen, James Lascelles on keyboards, drummer Simon Stewart, Michael Medora on lead guitar, and John McKenzie on bass. Aside from being stalwarts of the UK gig circuit and festival scene, Global Village Trucking Company recorded a series of sessions for the legendary DJ John Peel. Their communal life at Beehive Cottage in the Norfolk countryside attracted the interest of the BBC, who made a documentary on the band, By Way of a Change. The group made their first appearance on record in January 1974 on the album Greasy Truckers Live at Dingwall's Dance Hall, a live double album at an event staged by the alternative music and events promoters which also featured Henry Cow, Camel and Gong. Following this Global Village Trucking Company recorded their only album at Rockfield Studios intended for release on a new label to be established by Dave Robinson (later founder of Stiff Records). The proposed record company failed to materialize and by the summer of 1975 the band had called it a day and an arrangement was made with Virgin Records to release the album posthumously on Virgin's Caroline label. Forty years on, Smiling Revolution has been compiled by the band and gathers together the band's legendary album as originally intended, their tracks from the Greasy Truckers release, John Peel session tracks and other previously unreleased delights, all superbly remastered by acclaimed producer Robin Millar. It also features lavishly illustrated booklets and an absorbing essay detailing the story of this unique group. The band's star shone briefly, but it shone bright. They touched the lives of many. Those who enjoyed them back then will relish the opportunity to relive that now. And for those discovering the music for the first time - welcome to the world of the Global Village Trucking Company!
The Edgar Broughton Band/The Edgar Broughton Band ....import CD $15.99
The Edgar Broughton Band, founded in 1968 in Warwick, England, was one of those unique late '60s/early '70s bands having their own fanbase and a psychedelic blues-rock sound with occult tendencies. Their self-titled 1971 third album is an eclectic album that changes pace from song to song and is also known as 'The Meat Album' containing guest appearances by Roy Harper, David Bedford and Mike Oldfield. They were the people's band, working man's rock and roll, who let their politics show clearly in their lyrics. Their heavily blues-rock influenced sound was hard-driven and propelled by Edgar Broughton's gritty vocal style, similar to those of Captain Beefheart and Howlin' Wolf.

Neil Young/Young Shakespeare ....CD $18.99
Neil Young/Young Shakespeare [Deluxe Edition] ....LP + CD + DVD Box Set $69.99
Just two months after the release of his seminal album After the Gold Rush, Neil Young played a solo show at The Shakespeare Theater, Stratford, CT on January 22 1971. The show was filmed and recorded, and the concert shown on German TV later in 1971. In 2020, while Neil and his team were reviewing his Archive for future projects, Neil revisited the 16mm film and audio recording of this show that had been preserved in the Archive for almost 50 years. Piecing together the tapes and footage, Neil realized that he had the full concert - the film of which is the earliest live footage of Neil performing that is known to exist. Neil has written on NYA that this show is "superior to our beloved 'Massey Hall.' A more calm performance, without the celebratory atmosphere of Massey Hall, captured live on 16mm. 'Young Shakespeare' is a very special event. To my fans, I say this is the best ever." As an insight into Neil's prolific song writing at the time, the concert features two songs from the recently released After the Gold Rush but four songs from the classic Harvest album that was still over a year away from being released. The wonderful set list also includes acoustic renditions of favorites such as "Ohio," "Cowgirl in the Sand," "Helpless," "Down by the River" and "Sugar Mountain." The ancient analog tapes have been lovingly restored - resulting in (as Neil says on NYA) "one of the most pure sounding acoustic performances we have in the Archive." This beautiful concert is being released on LP and CD, plus a deluxe boxed edition that includes both LP and CD and, for the first time ever, a DVD of the concert. Young Shakespeare is being released almost exactly 50 years after the original performance.
Ten Years After/A Sting in the Tale [Deluxe Edition] ....CD $16.99
For fans of Alvin Lee, Ten Years After, and classic rock! Over fifty years since the release of their eponymous debut album in 1967, Ten Years After has returned with a new studio album containing twelve tracks titled "A Sting in the Tale." This "Deluxe Edition" also contains 4 live tracks from the bands recent tour including an amazing rendition of the smash hit "I'd Love to Change the World," which remains as relevant today as when first released in 1971. The beginning of their meteoric rise to fame can be pinpointed to their performance at The Woodstock Music and Arts Festival in August 1969. The audience were blown away by the intensity of the band's performance and their unique combination of jazz, blues and rock, and their enigmatic frontman Alvin Lee. This made them one of the biggest bands of the early '70s. As well as original members Ric Lee (Drums) and Chick Churchill (Keys), the band now features bass icon Colin Hodgkinson (Peter Green, Spencer Davis, Chris Rea) and multi-award winning guitarist/vocalist Marcus Bonfanti (Van Morrison, Ginger Baker, Ronnie Wood). The title "A Sting In The Tale" reflects the same sentiment Ric & Chick wished to convey in the 2015 live album "The Name Remains the Same." Although the band lineup has changed and the music continues to evolve and grow fifty years on, the sound of the band will always be heavily rooted in the way they paved the way during the late sixties and early seventies and will never forget its incredible heritage. This new record is the 'Sting' in the continuing Tale of Ten Years After.
Daniel Lanois/Heavy Sun ....CD $13.99
Heavy Sun, the soulful, debut from Lanois and his invigorating new all-star band. Recorded in Los Angeles and Toronto, the album fuses classic gospel and modern electronics, mixing gritty, human textures with crisp, digital accents and lush, swirling atmospherics to create a sound that's at once warmly familiar and boldly unexpected. The arrangements here are spacious and dreamy, anchored by rich, righteous organ topped with airy falsetto and mesmerizing four-part harmony, and the writing is buoyant and soulful to match, tapping into the shared uncertainty of the human condition to offer hope, comfort, and connection at a time when all three run in desperately short supply.

Billy Cobham/A Funky Thide of Sings ....import CD $15.99
"A Funky Thide of Sings" is all about the funk! Space rock drumming to be precise. The album opener "Panhandler" begins with an eerie type of ambience that reminds of hiding under a rock until this unexplainable ominous danger above clears. This song keeps a tight melody flowing and even when an extraordinary jazzy guitar solo comes in, the song remains high-octane and awesome. Keith Jarrett's "Sorcery" displays the Cobham funk sound at it's best. "Moody Modes" lives up to it's name! 'A Funky Thide Of Sings' is an album with Cobham's thunderous drumrolls and triple kick bass drums, with his signature sound. To hear them is to realize you'll always recognize, and appreciate what a great drummer sounds like.

Ken Hensley/My Book of Answers ....import CD $20.99
On 5th November 2020 it was with great sadness that Ken Hensley, former Uriah Heep keyboard player and songwriter passed away peacefully following a very short illness. Hensley was one of the most important musicians of the past half-a-century. His work with Uriah Heep in the 1970s helped to make the band hugely influential. He also collaborated with bands such as Blackfoot, W. A. S. P. and Cinderella, as well as building a very successful solo career. As a writer he was responsible for such classics as 'Lady in Black,' 'Easy Livin,' 'July Morning' and 'Look at Yourself.' Few artists can claim to have had a musical career and pedigree as long, varied and impressive. After forming The Gods in mid-1960s London with future Stones and Mayall guitarist Mick Taylor, Ken made brief appearances with Toe Fat and Head Machine before joining Uriah Heep in time for the band's debut album, "Very 'Eavy... Very 'Umble." His solo career kicked off in 1973 with "Proud Words on a Dusty Shelf," and Ken remained as busy and prolific as ever, with sales in excess of 45 million albums. "My Book of Answers" started with a chance encounter at Alicante airport on a flight bound for Moscow in 2018, when Russian businessman Vladimir Emelin (whose hobby is writing poetry) approached Ken. Vladimir didn't have a background in the music industry, and had never made a record but had been a big rock fan all his life, with a special appreciation of Ken. Ken Hensley said: "As someone who does not believe in coincidence, I would like to say that it all happened by "divine chance!" A chance meeting at Alicante Airport, scribbled notes exchanged on board the flight to Moscow, a few emails, a private concert and then a meeting at the Soho Bar in Alicante Harbour. "From translations of Vladimir's Russian words into English, Ken fashioned choruses and verses until he had the basis for nine original new songs. The main stumbling block to starting this record was finding the time to create it. And then the pandemic happened. Thankfully advances in modern technology meant that this album could be created and completed remotely. The album sees Ken also returning to play slide and lead guitars as well as his classic Hammond playing and of course lead vocals. "My Book of Answers" was finished and scheduled for release before his death. Cherry Red are extremely proud to represent this very special record. Ken had more collaborations planned, including a combined book of their poetry. We'll leave the last word to Ken: "Vladimir and I hope that you will get some real pleasure from something that really defined itself as we went along... "
Alan Parson Project/Eye in the Sky ....Mobile Fidelity SACD $39.99
Mastered from the original master tapes, this numbered hybrid SACD of Eye in the Sky features succulent warmth, magnificent balance, low-end heft, and see-through transparency that takes you into the studio with Parsons and creative partner Eric Woolfson at Abbey Road. Akin to Mobile Fidelity's meticulous restoration of Parsons and company's I Robot, this super-clean edition will test the full-range capabilities of the world's finest stereo systems. In sum, there's more information, more detail, more texture, more nuance - more of everything to be experienced. Boasting front-to-back depth, concert-hall-level separation, realistic presence, and bang-on accuracy, Mobile Fidelity's SACD of Eye in the Sky illustrates the lasting importance of perfectionist-minded engineering and recording techniques. Few works possess such a mesmerizing blend of reference-setting sonics and commercial acumen, facets that helped earn the set a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album - and, more than 35 years after it's release, a Grammy for Best Immersive Audio Album for it's surround format. Parsons' track record - he sat behind the boards for the Beatles' Abbey Road and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon - speaks for itself. As do the performances throughout Eye in the Sky, which contains not a single dull moment. Moving the overarching conceptual themes present on the group's other signature efforts to the background, Eye in the Sky uses a string of seamless melodies, hooks, and mood to draw and hold listeners' attention. It survives as Parsons' pop triumph, full of exquisite songwriting, dreamy emotions, and soft edges that parallel an underlying orchestral scope and prog-derived drama. For example, the string- and brass-laden 'Silence and I' alone qualifies as a rhapsodic symphony. Credit for the music's craft, cohesiveness, and accessibility also falls to Parsons and Woolfson's knack for recruiting session pros that translate their visions with unquestioned emotion - particularly, the assembly of star vocalists that include Elmer Gantry ('Psychobabble'), former Zombie frontman Colin Blunstone ('Old and Wise'), and soul singer Lenny Zakatek ('You're Gonna Get Your Fingers Burned' and 'Step by Step').

Tasavallan Presidentti/Tasavallan Presidentti
....import CD $25.99
Tasavallan Presidentti/Milky Way Moses ....import CD $25.99
Two classic albums from the Finnish band, Tasavallan Presidentti. Tasavallan Presidentti (in English 'President of the Republic') is a Finnish progressive rock band. It was founded in 1969 by guitarist Jukka Tolonen and drummer Vesa Aaltonen. Other founder members were Mans Groundstroem (bass) and Frank Robson (vocals), previously of Blues Section. Juhani Aaltonen (saxophone/flute) had earlier played in Soulset; he was replaced in 1970 by Pekka Poyry. Eero Raittinen replaced Robson as a vocalist in 1972. Milky Way Moses reached number 12 in Finland in 1974.
T2/It'll All Work Out in Boomland [Remastered & Expanded] ....import 3 CD Set $38.99
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a re-mastered and expanded 3 CD digipack edition of the cult 1970 album by progressive rock power trio T2. Formed in 1970 by Peter Dunton, a former drummer with Gun, and former members of Bulldog Breed, guitarist and backing vocalist Keith Cross and Bernard Jinks (bass, backing vocals), T2 officially released one classic studio album during their short career, It'll All Work Out in Boomland, issued by Decca Records in July 1970. Taking the template established by acts such as The Who, Cream and Jeff Beck Group, the maturity of the music belies the young age of the band. Featuring only four tracks, the album's highlights included No More White Horses, perhaps the piece-de-resistance of the album, an amazingly powerful song with a wonderful horn arrangement, building to a powerful feedback-laden climax and the twenty-minute long Morning. The album earned much praise upon it's release and the band's live performances hailed the teenager Keith Cross as "the new Eric Clapton," much against his wishes. Despite this, issues with their record company, combined with a general dissatisfaction led to Cross departing the band after the trio had recorded a series of excellent tracks for a potential second album that failed to materialise after the band were dropped by Decca. By 1971 Bernard Jinks had also departed and Peter Dunton formed a new line-up of the band featuring guitarist Andrew Bown and bassist John Weir. This new line-up performed on the UK concert circuit and also recorded a series of fine tracks in the search of a new recording contract. Alas, by the end of 1972 T2 disbanded. By the new millennium It'll All Work Out in Boomland had been re-appraised and had attracted a cult following among aficionados of progressive and underground rock of the early 1970s, even leading to several tracks being sampled by DJs on dance tracks. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly re-mastered from the original Decca master tapes and has been expanded by a further two CDs featuring their later recordings made in 1970 and 1971-1972. T2's sole Decca album is presented here as a recognized classic of the era. Open your ears to Boomland!
Bell Orchestre/House Music ....CD $15.99
Erased Tapes announce Bell Orchestre's 'House Music,' an immersive ecosystem of an album and the first full-length work released by the acclaimed Montreal-based outfit in over a decade. House Music unfolds as one long piece, a recorded-then-sculpted improvisation that vastly expands their work, coalescing classical and electronic instrumentation in the creation of genre-defying musical worlds.
K. Leimer/Found Objects ....CD $16.99
Found object is a loan translation from the French objet trouve, describing art created from undisguised, but often modified, objects or products that are not normally considered materials from which art is made, often because they already have a non-art function. Like the results from automatic writing and readymades, Found Objects offers an approximation of those techniques in sound by repurposing displaced phrases and timbres, pitches, restatements, and treatments as the root technique. K. Leimer describes it this way: "I worked toward a greater variety of outcomes between each of the pieces, with the goal of providing a more diverse listening experience. At the same time it became important to avoid any specific sense of adhering to a particular genre." After eleven months in the studio, Found Objects finally became music, but only as the result of almost continuous, arbitrarily redirected accidents.
Devin Townsend/Devolution Series #1 - Acoustically Inclined, Live in Leeds ....CD $15.99
Devin Townsend's Devolution Series aims to present fascinating collections of music that Devin would like people to hear, but that wouldn't be considered 'major releases.' The series will include all of Devin's recent quarantine songs and concerts, as well as various live shows from the past. The first release, Devolution Series #1 - Acoustically Inclined, Live in Leeds, is a remixed and remastered version of the Live in Leeds show that was originally included on the Empath Ultimate Edition as a video.
Anchoress/The Art of Losing ....import CD $18.99
The Art of Losing is the second album from Welsh multi-instrumentalist The Anchoress (aka Catherine Anne Davies), following up on her critically acclaimed debut album, 'Confessions of a Romance Novelist,' which was named amongst the Guardian critics' Albums of the Year, won HMV's Welsh Album of the Year, Best Newcomer at the PROG awards, and a nomination for the Welsh Music Prize. Written & produced by Davies, the new album features guest vocal performances from James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers) & drums from Sterling Campbell (David Bowie, Duran Duran) along with the mixing talents of Dave Eringa (Manics, Wilko Johnson) & grammy-award winner Mario McNulty (David Bowie, Prince, Laurie Anderson). 'The Art of Losing' ambitiously navigates the topic of loss in all it's forms and was written and recorded during an unfeasibly busy few years as Davies found solace and purpose in a range of projects whilst navigating her griefs. Most recently this came via the release of her collaborative album 'In Memory of My Feelings' with Bernard Butler (on Pete Paphides' label 'Needle Mythology'), duetting with the Manic Street Preachers on 'Resistance Is Futile,' and being personally invited by The Cure's Robert Smith to perform at his Meltdown Festival. She also brought a new generation of ears to legendary Scottish rock band Simple Minds, where she spent much of the last five years appearing on the 'Big Music' (2015) & 'Walk Between Worlds' (2018) albums. 14 track digipack CD edition with 24-page full colour booklet.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor/G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END! ....CD $14.99
The inimitable GYBE returns with another soundtrack for our times. As the heretical anarcho-punk spirit of the title implies, Godspeed harnesses some particularly raw power, spittle and grit across two riveting 20-minute side-length trajectories of noise-drenched widescreen post-rock: inexorable chug blossoms into blown-out twang, as some of the band's most soaring, searing melodies ricochet and converge amidst violin and bassline counterpoint. Field recordings and roiling semi-improvised passages frame these fervent epics, and two shorter self-contained 6-minute pieces find the band at it's most devastatingly beautiful, haunting and elegiac. Poignant atmospherics, noise-drenched orchestration, drone, hypnotic swingtime crescendos, inexorably-layered towers of distorted clarion sound: STATE'S END encapsulates every beloved facet of the band. Twenty-five years on, this new album is as vital, stirring, timely and implacable as any in Godspeed You! Black Emperor's storied discography. Recorded and mixed by Jace Lasek, the veteran award-winning indie producer (and co-founder of The Besnard Lakes) who works with Godspeed for the first time on this recording.
John Zorn/Teresa de Avila ....CD $18.99
Preceded by Nove Cantici per Francesco d'Assisi and Virtue (for Julian of Norwich), Teresa de Avila is the third and final CD in Zorn's trilogy inspired by towering figures of Christian mysticism. Written for the all-star acoustic guitar trio of Bill Frisell, Julian Lage and Gyan Riley whose performances are steeped in a feeling of love and mutual respect, the music is both beautifully simple and strangely complex, drawing equally on classical modernism, bluegrass, jazz, Jewish and renaissance music. Filled with compositional surprises, mysterious moods, beautiful harmonies and a stunning lyricism, Teresa de Avila is a must-have for all fans of acoustic guitar music. This is one of the most personal and varied books of music Zorn has yet written, a lovely tribute to the enduring legacy of one of the world's most beloved spiritual figures. Includes an extended appreciation by renown philosopher Arnold Davidson.
Magnet Animals/Fake Dudes ....CD $15.99
If ever a moment in history called for the caustic, corrosive rantings of guitarist-composer-poet Todd Clouser and the abstract grooves of his combustible beat-skronk band Magnet Animals, it's this one. With our collective headspaces dizzied by a nearly yearlong pandemic induced isolation and battered by an unceasing barrage of political insanities, the serrated wit and surrealist insights of Fake Dudes arrives with the kinetic force of a madcap sermon. Fake Dudes reconvenes the geographically scattered members of Magnet Animals - Minneapolis-born, Mexico City-based Clouser, Mexican drummer Jorge Servin, and Abraxas bandmates Eyal Maoz (guitar) and Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz (bass) - four years after their bracing debut, 2016's Butterfly Killer. The startling dreamscape imagery and throttling grooves will be familiar to fans of that initial outing, though Fake Dudes trades it's predecessor's occasional airiness for a far more ferocious and claustrophobic concoction.
Steve Gadd Band/At Blue Note Tokyo ....CD $12.99
The iconic drummer, Steve Gadd releases his band's 5th project: At Blue Note Tokyo. This album follows their 2018 Grammy win of Best Contempory / Instrumental Album for the eponymous album"Steve Gadd Band." Regular band members, Walt Fowler (Flugelhorn/Trumpet), Kevin Hays (Piano/Keys) and Jimmy Johnson (Bass) are joined by an old friend and renown guitarist, David Spinozza. The album highlights live versions of tunes from previous albums. It features a couple of new tunes penned by Spinozza and two tracks with soulful vocals by Hays. At Blue Note Tokyo captures the unique appeal of this venue and reflects the special relationship Steve Gadd has had with this club over the many years.
Brian Bennett/Voyage [Expanded Edition] ....import 2 CD Set $36.99
Ever since joining The Shadows in 1961, London-born drummer and percussionist Brian Bennett has been an institution on the UK's music scene. After leaving The Shads, he embarked on a fascinating solo career carving a unique role as a arranger, conductor and record producer, composer for film and TV. In 1978, inspired by the space age disco records emanating from the continent, Brian recorded what he described as "A Journey into Discoid Funk." Housed in a striking, colourful sleeve depicting - appropriately enough - a spaceship, Voyage was a departure for Bennett, serving up infectious, cosmic disco/jazz/funk with a nod towards his earlier, funky library work. This album was created by a trio with Bennett on drums, Alan Jones on bass and Francis Monkman of Curved Air and Sky on keyboards with some of his spaciest synthwork to date! Released with Brian's blessing and overseen by his musician/composer son Warren, this two CD edition of Voyage boasts the addition of previously unissued working mixes of the album, plus the rare 7" edits from the single 'Pendulum Force.'

Kaleidoscope/Sky Children: The Best Of Kaleidoscope & Fairfield Parlour ....import CD + DVD $19.99
First US compilation for this much beloved, yet often overlooked, UK group capturing highlights from their entire recorded legacy. Emerging from the British 1967 Psychedelic scene, Kaleidoscope released two fine albums (Tangerine Dream, Faintly Blowing) and several non-LP singles with Fontana before switching to Vertigo and evolving into the more folkier and progressive Fairfield Parlour in 1970. This newly remastered collection includes their hit "Bordeaux Rose" plus key album cuts like "The Sky Children," "Snapdragon" and the tour-de-phase "Music." Also included is an early demo from 1964 when these four men, Peter Daltrey, Eddie Pumer, Steve Clark and Danny Bridgman, were a driving beat combo known as the Sidekicks. Don Airey & Friends/Live in Hamburg ....2 CD Set $17.99
Don Airey is the keyboard player of Deep Purple. With the iconic British band, he succeeded in doing what would have been impossible for any other keyboard player, substituting the legendary founding member Jon Lord, accidentally one of his idols. Don's career has been incredible. His contribution has marked the history of hard rock. From his works with Ozzy Osbourne on the first albums, through Michael Schenker Group, three great album with Rainbow (together with Roger Glover and of course Ritchie Blackmore), until playing on many albums from Gary Moore, including the hit "Still Got the Blues" for which Airey wrote and arranged all the orchestral parts. This concert has been recorded in Hamburg, during the club tour of his solo album "One of a Kind," the first released on earMUSIC. The show is a selection of Don's favourite songs from his unique career. A "Hard Rock songbook," played live in a superb way by a band including Carl Sentance (the current singer from Nazareth) and the guitar rising star Simon McBride.
The Amorphous Androgynous & Peter Hammill/We Persuade Ourselves We Are Immortal ....import CD $19.99
The Amorphous Androgynous return with symphonic 40 minute progtronic space rock concept album We Persuade Ourselves We Are Immortal in 5 epic parts. Featuring Peter Hammill on vocals alongside a host of musicians including Paul Weller (piano and guitar), Ray Fenwick (lead guitar), Brian Hopper on sax, and many others including the 50 piece Chesterfield Philharmonic Choir and a 25 piece sumptuously recorded live orchestral string section. Opening with the 13 minute epic space prog rock of title track We Persuade Ourselves We Are Immortal (written with Peter Hammill and Paul Weller) the themes of mortality and immortality are then musically and conceptually catapulted to the far flung corners of the AA sonic multiverse over 40+ minutes utilizing choir, moog, a live orchestral string section, harp and vintage synth all fed against a backdrop of classic rock and psych samplerdelia of the Amorphous Androgynous. Space Odyssey like dystopian choirs and moog of Hymortality crash full force into the Led Zep Bonham-like drums of the Immortality Break while Synthony on a Theme of Mortality lives up to its name as an almost Vangelis Bladerunner-esque vintage synthony of some of the themes of the original track utilizing the classic '70s Yamaha CS80 synth before triumphantly soaring to lift off adrift a Pink Floyd-like female wailing aria against classic vintage guitar rock. Psych Recap is all backwards voices and guitars over pounding Tomorrow Never Knows-era Beatles bass and drums with dislocated Peter Hammill psychedelic vocals before the whole cosmic trip cascades finally into the harp daydream reverie and minimoog space landings, choir and french romantic strings of Physically I'm Here, Mentally Far, Far Away.

Richard Barbieri/Under a Spell ....CD $16.99
The man whose illustrious career began in the late '70s with synth-pop visionaries Japan and more recently as a member of influential art-rock band Porcupine Tree follows up 2017's Planets + Persona with new album Under a Spell. 2017's Planets + Persona was adventurous and bold, showcasing Barbieri's endlessly inventive song writing and mastery of electronic music. Under a Spell picks up where that left off, journeying further into the expansive terrain he had sonically mapped out. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, everything changed. "I wrote and recorded it in my studio at home, with all this strangeness going on outside," says Barbieri. "It became something completely different: this weird, self-contained dream-state album." On Under a Spell, Barbieri was intent on capturing the atmospheres and moods that his disconnected brain was conjuring rather than slaving over arrangements and melodies. Songs such as 'Flare,' 'Serpentine,' 'Sleep Will Find You' and its companion piece-of-sorts 'Darkness Will Find You' are sharply defined despite their dream-inspired genesis. The album's title perfectly encapsulates the haunting, evocative world Barbieri has created. Songs such as the skittering, billowing 'Clockwork' and 'Sketch 6's dub-inspired soundscape hang suspended in that strange half-world between sleep and waking - a subconscious reflection of the surreal state the planet has found itself in over recent months. There are voices but no vocals, collaborators include Marillion frontman Steve Hogarth and Swedish singer Lisen Rylander Love (who co-wrote 'A Star Light'). Barbieri's willingness to constantly redefine his own musical boundaries are never more evident than on the brilliant, hypnotic Under a Spell - the latest milestone on this utterly unique journey.

Be Bop Deluxe/Drastic Plastic [Deluxe Edition] ....import 4 CD + 2 DVD Box Set $85.99
Esoteric Recordings is proud to announce the release of a new re-mastered and expanded
2 CD edition and new re-mastered six-disc deluxe expanded boxed set limited edition
(comprising 4 CDs and two NTSTC - Region Free DVDs) of "Drastic Plastic" the
classic1978 album by Be Bop Deluxe. "Drastic Plastic" would be the final Be Bop
Deluxe album and was recorded in the summer of 1978 in the South of France at The Villa
Saint Georges, Juan-les-Pins, utilising the Rolling Stones mobile studio, with final
sessions taking place at The Manor Studio and Abbey Road Studios. The record saw Bill
Nelson (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Charles Tumahai (bass, vocals), Andy Clark
(keyboards) and Simon Fox (drums) venture into new musical styles, with the album being
ground-breaking in its move to more "art rock" and "new wave"
influences. In many ways it can be seen as the signpost to where Bill Nelson would head
with his Red Noise project with a desire to continue to progress as an artist by pushing
musical boundaries. Co-produced by Bill Nelson and John Leckie, "Drastic
Plastic" was another hit album in both the UK and the USA and featured such classic
material as 'Electrical Language,' 'Panic in the World,' 'New Mysteries,' 'Islands of the
Dead' and 'Surreal Estate.' The recording sessions produced many more tracks which would
appear as singles (such as 'Japan') and others that were originally planned for release as
an EP set ('Autosexual,' 'Lovers are Mortal,' 'Speed of the Wind,' 'Quest for the Harvest
of the Stars,' 'Face in the Rain'), all of which eventually appeared on the retrospective
compilation The Best of & the Rest Of... later in 1978. The expanded two CD reissue
has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and features an additional 25
tracks, drawn from stunning stereo mixes from the original multi-track tapes by award
winning engineer Stephen W. Tayler and non-album singles and additional tracks recorded
for an intended EP. This set also includes a lavishly illustrated booklet with many
previously unseen photographs and an essay of recollections by Bill Nelson.
The expanded deluxe reissue has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and features an additional 88 tracks, (43 of which are previously unreleased), drawn from stunning new 5. 1 surround sound & stereo mixes from the original multi-track tapes by award winning engineer Stephen W. Tayler, previously unreleased out-takes from the album sessions, a BBC Radio John Peel Show session from January 1978, along with a CD of Bill Nelson's previously unreleased demos for the album, "A Feeling of Playing." Also included is an additional DVD featuring Be Bop Deluxe in the South of France, (a collection of Bill Nelson's 8mm home movies shot whilst recording "Drastic Plastic") and the band's Sight & Sound In Concert performance for BBC TV from 1978. Another highlight of this limited-edition boxed set is the lavishly illustrated 68-page book with many previously unseen photographs and an essay of recollections by Bill Nelson. Additionally, the set includes postcards and a replica poster. The two CD re-mastered and expanded edition and special deluxe limited edition of "Drastic Plastic" are a fitting tributes to the creative vision of Bill Nelson and the musicianship of Be Bop Deluxe.

Black Sabbath/VOL 4 [Super Deluxe Edition] ....4 CD Box Set $57.99
Black Sabbath unleashed the group's fourth album in two years in 1972 with Vol 4. Stacked with classic tracks like "Supernaut," "Changes," and "Snowblind," the record harnessed the group's surging popularity to reach the Top 10 on the Albums Chart in the U.K. and the Top 20 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S., on its path to being certified platinum by the RIAA. The innovators of heavy metal revisit Vol 4 on a new collection that includes a newly remastered version of the original album along with a trove of 20 unreleased studio and live recordings and comes with extensive booklets featuring liner notes with quotes from the era from all four band members, rare photos, and a poster with previously unpublished early artwork of the album using the working title Snowblind. Bolstered by a fresh remastering, Vol 4's ambitious arrangements and complex grooves have never sounded more inspired and menacing. Originally released in September 1972, the album marked two major changes for the members of Sabbath: Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. While their previous albums - Black Sabbath, Paranoid, and Master of Reality - were produced by Rodger Bain and recorded in England, they instead chose to produce Vol 4 themselves and record it at the Record Plant in Los Angeles. The generous addition of bonus material on VOL 4: Super Deluxe Edition begins with six previously unreleased studio outtakes from the original sessions for the album. Each one has been newly mixed by Steven Wilson using the analog multi-tracks. Highlights include outtakes for "Supernaut" and "Changes," as well an instrumental version of "Under the Sun." The set also features 11 additional studio recordings (also newly mixed by Wilson from the analog multi-tracks) that spotlight alternative takes, false starts and snippets of studio dialogue. These tracks transport listeners into the studio with the band and offer some insight into the making of the album. Along with several alternative takes for "Wheels of Confusion," these recordings also include outtakes for "The Straightener" and "Snowblind." The collection concludes with a searing collection of live performances that re-create a typical setlist from Black Sabbath's tour for Vol 4. Recorded in March 1973 at various stops along the band's U.K. tour. The recordings were originally slated for a live album that was ultimately shelved. Although some of these performances have been previously available in various states, the release marks the first time that a full 1973 live Sabbath show has been recreated. The live audio has been newly mixed by Richard Digby Smith using the original 16-track analog tapes to achieve a level of fidelity not heard on any previous incarnations.
Blackmore's Night/Nature's Light ....CD $14.99
Blackmore's Night/Nature's Light [Deluxe Edition] ....2 CD Set $19.99
"Our music is an escape from the stress and pressure of modern times. Journey back through time with us, to a simpler, magical time where music enters your heart and soul," say Candice Night and Ritchie Blackmore. The ten new tracks make for a remarkable new record - one that could only have been written by Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night. Once again, the duo is able to mix the tradition of British Folk music and love for the Renaissance sound with their style, inspired by myths and legends of ancient times. Escapism reaching towards an ideal beauty found in different time, as understood perfectly by the audience that renews its love for Blackmore´s Night since its formation. While the album is rooted in a traditional approach, fans of Ritchie Blackmore's unique style will once again not be disappointed. Heartfelt ballads such as a brand-new version of 'Wish You Were Here' set the scene for magical tales on 'Four Winds' and 'The Twisted Oak.' For the two instrumental tracks - 'Darker Shade Of Black' and 'Der letzte Musketier' - Ritchie shows that his unmistakable Fender Stratocaster guitar sound is still magic as it always was! The Deluxe Edition is a 2 CD media book with a second CD of nine Blackmore's Night classics.
Edgar Broughton Band/Speak Down the Wires - The Recordings 1975-1982 ....import 4CD Box Set $45.99
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of Speak Down the Wires, a re-mastered four-disc clamshell box set of the four albums issued by the Edgar Broughton Band / The Broughtons between 1975 and 1982: "Bandages," "Live Hits Harder!," "Parlez Vous English" and "Superchip: The Final Silicon Solution." From the release of their debut album for EMI's Harvest label in 1969, "Wasa Wasa," the Edgar Broughton Band were trail blazers for the counterculture and rock music with a social conscience and could even be seen as godfathers and influencers of the later Punk movement. Hailing from Warwick and featuring Edgar Broughton (guitars, vocals), Steve Broughton (drums, vocals) and Arthur Grant (bass, vocals), their hard hitting approach over a series of albums for the Harvest label earned them many loyal fans and several hit singles (including their anthem 'Out Demons Out!'). In 1973 the band departed Harvest and would record a further four albums, all released on independent labels between 1975 and 1982. "Bandages" was the first of these records and was born of a time when the band was bedevilled with management problems. Recorded in the summer of 1975 in Oslo, the band was joined by new member John Thomas on guitar and was later mixed by the band and Mike Oldfield at his home studio, "Bandages" was a fine record and featured Mike guesting on the tracks 'Speak Down the Wires,' 'The Whale' and 'Fruhling Flowers.' Despite the acclaim for "Bandages," by 1976 the band had decided to take a break and embarked on a "farewell" European tour with the addition of another guitarist to the band, Terry Cottam. Several UK shows were recorded by the RAK Mobile studio and the highlights were eventually released in 1979 as the "Live Hits Harder!" album. By the time of this release the band had already entered the studio with a new line-up featuring Edgar and Steve Broughton, Arthur Grant joined by Pete Tolson (guitars), Richard de Bastion (keyboards, backing vocals) and Tom Norden (guitars, backing vocals) to record the excellent album "Parlez Vous English." This record was produced by the band assisted by John Leckie and Simon Heyworth and saw the band shorten their name to The Broughtons. "Parlez Vous English" took on new wave and art rock influences and, with highlights such as 'All I Want to Be' (also a single), 'Anthem,' 'Revelations One' and 'April in England,' was arguably the most polished of all the albums recorded by the band. Following a promotional tour in 1980, the Edgar Broughton Band took the step of forming their own label for their next release in 1982, the conceptual album "Superchip: The Final Silicon Solution." The record saw the band revert to a trio and adopt the use of keyboards more extensively and the album's dystopian message is perhaps more pertinent today than when it was first issued. Speak Down the Wires - The Recordings 1975 - 1982 is a fine collection of music and tells an often overlooked chapter of the later musical legacy of one of Britain's most genuine bands.

Peter Green/Whatcha Gonna Do? ....import CD $17.99
'Whatcha Gonna Do?' is Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green's fourth solo album, the third in his middle period of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Considering this period of Peter Green's solo career, this is one of the best albums. All the tracks on the album were written by Green's brother Mike. "Gotta See Her Tonight" is bitterness itself, to a rock-reggae beat. "Lost My Love" is a subtly dynamic slow blues, with two superb solos that refer to Albert King. And then there's "Last Train to San Antone" with an architectural guitar solo. Green's guitar leads had gotten very elliptical but still has a nice pace and attack. There's an excellent rhythm section, particularly Fairport Convention drummer Dave Mattacks and a nice production job by Peter Vernon-Kell.
Guru Guru/Live in Essen 1970 ....import CD $17.99
Stunning quality, rare live performance recordings of krautrock pioneers Guru Guru, from one of their earliest ever live concerts on Sunday October the 25th 1970. Three long slabs of prime classic psychedelic prog, two from the 'UFO' album and one off 'Hinten,' show the band at their apex, defining a sound that had never been heard before. Sourced from tapes recorded directly from the sound desk at the show, the recording quality is phenomenal for something of this vintage era. The original line-up of Mani Neumeier - drums & vocals, Ax Genrich - guitar and Uli Trepte - bass & vocals, are present and on full power. Guru Guru stood for space, psychedelic experience and electric magic. It stood for energy, imagination and freedom. Turn on, tune in, take off!

Steve Hackett/Under a Mediterranean Sky ....CD $16.99

Under a Mediterranean Sky is Steve Hackett's first acoustic solo album since Tribute in 2008 and takes inspiration from Steve's extensive travels around the Mediterranean with his wife Jo. Working closely with long-time musical partner Roger King, Hackett has used his time during 2020's lockdown to take us on an extraordinary musical journey around the Mediterranean, painting vivid images of stunning landscapes and celebrating the diverse cultures of the region. Famed for his rock roots with Genesis, and through his extensive solo catalogue, Hackett demonstrates the exquisite beauty of the nylon guitar at times venturing into the exotic ethnic and often supported by dazzling orchestral arrangements. "A lot of acoustic ideas had been forming over the years, and it felt like the perfect time to create this album," notes Hackett, "a time to contemplate the places we've visited around the Mediterranean with the kind of music which evolved from the world of imagination. Because we can't really travel substantially at the moment, I hope that the album will take people on that journey. Whether you sit down and listen to it or drift off to it with a glass of wine..."

Lee Kerslake/Eleventeen ....import CD $20.99
With a career that goes back to the 1960s, Lee Kerslake's first step into the rock limelight was with The Gods, recording "Genesis" in 1968 and "To Samuel a Son" in 1969. Joining Toe Fat for their self-titled debut in 1970, via 1970's "Orgasm" by Head Machine, so far Lee had shared his musical journey with multi-instrumentalist and song writer Ken Hensley. This musical connection and friendship would be further cemented in 1972 when Lee joined Ken in Uriah Heep for the classic "Demons & Wizards" LP, remaining behind Heep's drum kit for the best part of 30 plus years. Lee also found time to make cameos drumming for Ken Hensley and David Byron solo records along the way, and most notably as a founder member of Ozzy Osbourne's solo band, drumming on the multi-platinum "Blizzard of Ozz" in 1980 and "Diary of a Madman in 1981. He also appeared with super group Living Loud, a band featuring bassist Bob Daisley, guitarist Steve Morse, singer Jimmy Barnes and keyboard player Don Airey. Standing down from drumming full-time for Uriah Heep in 2007 due to ill-health, Lee commenced his debut solo album in 2015 with Jake Libretto, completing the album in 2019. According to Lee's notes from the album, "WOW, I have to say now the album is finished there is a great sense of achievement. It's been a little over three years to record and finish it, it took so long because I could only manage two days a week and sometimes nothing for a period of time as the chemotherapy without my permission kept me away. Never mind it's done and I am very proud of the songs. "Eleventeen" is a collection of eight songs, seven of them written or co-written by Lee, and starts with Celia Sienna. Lee offers notes and insights for each track, and Take Nothing for Granted "is based around my wife and then some," evidently with tongue firmly in cheek. Where Do We Go From Here, which according to Lee, "It's all to late to realize... where do we go from here? I've had too many argumentative girls in my life!!!" You May Be By Yourself (But You're Never Alone), "This song was written when Bob Daisley gave such a loving look to squish his daughter it moved me all those years ago. " Port and a Brandy, according to Mick Box's dedication on the album, "The song 'Port and a Brandy' made me smile as we have shared many of them together over the years. " Next up is a heartfelt rendition of Carole King's timeless You've Got a Friend, which Lee dedicates to, "all of my friends past and present who I have loved through music." "Eleventeen" concludes with the instrumental Mom, which Lee wrote for, "all the mums in the world who we should never take for granted." Lee sadly passed away in September 2020 at the age of 73. Leaving the last word to his friend and long-time Uriah Heep bandmate: "It fills me with great pride that he achieved this as his last final musical legacy."

The collection, which spans the band's entire history, revisits classics including "Matte Kudasai," "Heartbeat," "Moonchild," "Elephant Talk," "Peace," "Exiles," and "Sleepless." But it can also be haunting and melodic, with some of the most beautiful lyrics ever. We wanted to help uncover that sweetness and introduce the songs to a different type of audience with 'A Romantic's Guide to King Crimson.'"
Missing Persons/Spring Session M [2021 Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....CD $15.99
Formed in 1980 by the core trio of Dale and Terry Bozzio along with Warren Cuccurullo (all Frank Zappa alumni), Missing Persons perfectly fit into the New Wave movement. With her quirky singing style and colorful homemade attire, Dale Bozzio created a unique image that was both ear and eye candy. Husband Terry brought powerhouse drumming to their sound that added immediate credibility. Future Duran Duran guitarist Warren brought a rocking guitar sound that could either provide a melodic accompaniment or blistering solo, all with a distinctive sound that was very much his own. Released in late 1982, the full length debut album Spring Session M (an anagram for the band's name) became an instant hit, eventually achieving Gold status. Now including additional members Patrick O'Hearn (another Zappa alumnus) and Chuck Wild on bass and keyboards, the music videos for the hit singles Words and Destination Unknown were put into heavy rotation on MTV. Two additional chart singles, Windows and Walking in L.A., were also released. Rubellan Remasters is proud to reissue the full catalog of the original Missing Persons. Dynamically remastered from original master tapes from the Universal Music tape archive, Spring Session M not only includes the original 12 album tracks, but has been expanded to include the additional songs from the debut EP, including one of their signature tunes Mental Hopscotch.

Pinder Brothers/Melancholy Sea ....CD $15.99
The Pinder Brothers' new 'Melancholy Sea' makes waves with sing-a-long melodies and crafty alt-rock rrrangements. Sons of Moody Blues founding member Mike Pinder carry on the tradition, as their own SoCal followers continue to burgeon. The Pinder Brothers may not be the first pair of siblings to proffer an intrinsic fusion of vocal harmonies, but add to the mix crafty sing-a-long melodies and enough of a rock edge to engage the masses. That is the musical mantra of these brothers in arms' third full-length release "Melancholy Sea." Of course, the many current fans of Matthew and Michael Lee are already aware of one other essential factor. Let's call it pedigree. Their dad Mike Pinder was a founding member of the legendary Moody Blues, who not only fulfilled the enduring band's mellotron duties, but also contributed harmony vocals. The Pinder Brothers mesh the harmonies of Crosby, Stills and Nash alongside the songwriting style of Simon & Garfunkel, and ultimately add their own modern spin. Listeners will hear all of this and more in "Melancholy Sea," which the pair wrote, played and arranged. The project's masterfully penned lyrics create a sonic tapestry that dazzles the ear....much like the colors of a seashell inspire the eye. The brothers' voices harmonize beautifully, accompanied by arrangements that deftly ease from a bed of crunchy electric guitars into warm overdriven tones that layer as naturally as sheets and a blanket. It could be said that The Pinder Brothers have '60s Brit-rock heritage in their DNA, with a healthy dose of California style thrown in. Hailing from Northern California, Matt and Michael Pinder grew up playing music and performing together whenever possible. How could they not, with the sounds of the lost chord echoing softly in their ears. Thankfully, Mike Pinder's innate talent has been passed on to his sons - who are now creating their own legacy.

Ryuichi Sakamoto with Adrian Belew/Hidari Ude No Yume [Left
Handed Dream] ....import CD $22.99
Ryuichi Sakamoto with Adrian Belew/Hidari Ude No Yume [Left Handed Dream] ....import Vinyl LP $41.99
Wewantsounds present the reissue of Ryuichi Sakamoto's third solo album Hidari Ude No Yume (Left Handed Dream), originally released in 1981 on the Alfa label. Save for a small-scale Dutch vinyl release in 1981, it is the first time the album's original Japanese edition is released outside of Japan (the European release on Epic Records included significantly different tracks and mixes). Hidari Ude No Yume was recorded at the legendary Alfa Studio "A" in Tokyo during the Summer of 1981. it came after B-2 Unit in 1980 and his debut album Thousand Knives Of... in 1978, the very year Sakamoto was invited by Haruomi Hosono to join Yellow Magic Orchestra alongside Yukihiro Takahashi. In 1981, Sakamoto decided to record an album rooted in pop, following the more experimental B-2 Unit and his landmark electro debut. Sakamoto invited British producer Robin Scott to co-produce. They entered the Alfa studio in July 1981 with his fellow YMO musicians Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi, keyboard programmer extraordinaire Hideki Matsutake who'd been on Sakamoto's first two albums and became YMO's unofficial fourth member, violinist Kaoru Sato, saxophonist Satoshi Nakamura, and American guitarist Adrian Belew (David Bowie, The Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club and later King Crimson). Together, they created a fascinating mix of pop, ambient and electronic music with elements of avant-garde and traditional Japanese music, the whole firmly rooted in a solid groove. From the funk of "Relache" to the new wave feel of "Venezia" and the ambient minimalism of "Slat Dance," the album is remarkably consistent while displaying a wealth of global influences. The album was released in Japan in 1981 and Epic Records picked it up for Europe a year later but decided to release it in a significantly altered version. The sequencing was completely reshuffled and two tracks, "Saru No Ie" and "Living in the Dark" were completely dropped while three others, "Relache," "Tell 'em To Me," "Venezia" were heavily remodeled with English lyrics and different names. Last but not least, a new English-sung track, "The Arrangement," was added, making the album nine tracks instead of ten for the Japanese edition. Newly remastered from the original tapes by renowned engineer Bernie Grundman. Comes with original artwork featuring cover shot by famous photographer Masayoshi Sukita. Four-page insert with new introduction by journalist Anton Spice.

Transatlantic/The Absolute Universe: The Breath Of Life [AbridgedVersion] ....CD $13.99
Transatlantic/The Absolute Universe [Deluxe Edition] ....import 5 vinyl LPs + 3 CDs + Blu-Ray $99.99
Transatlantic - the Prog Supergroup of Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Roine Stolt & Pete Trewavas are pleased to announce their fifth studio album 'The Absolute Universe,' set for release in February. Representing the band's first new music since 2014's 'Kaleidoscope,' with 'The Absolute Universe' the band have done something unique and created two versions of the record: 'The Absolute Universe: The Breath of Life (Abridged Version)' & 'The Absolute Universe: Forevermore (Extended Version).' As Mike Portnoy explains: "We've got two versions of this album. There is a two CD presentation, which is 90 minutes long, and a single one - that's 60 minutes. However, the single CD is NOT merely an edited version of the double CD. They each contain alternate versions and even in some cases, new recordings. We wrote fresh lyrics and have different people singing on the single CD version tracks as compared to those on the double CD. Some of the song titles have also been changed, while others might remain the same, but compositionally what you'll hear has been altered. You must appreciate that what we have done is unique. We revamped the songs to make the two versions different." Pete Trewavas adds: "We did write some new music for the single CD, what's more, there are also differences in the instruments used on some of the tracks across the two records."
Anneke Van Giersbergen/The Darkest Skies Are the Brightest ....CD $14.99
The Darkest Skies Are the Brightest is Anneke van Giersbergen's 23rd career album. It was created in a time of personal crisis, with just an acoustic guitar and basic recording gear, in a small house near the woods just outside of Anneke's hometown, and it grew into something much bigger. Lyrically, and musically, the award-winning Dutch artist lays her soul bare with the most evocative record of her career - captivating song-stories told with acoustic guitars, strings, horns, percussion, and Anneke's hypnotic vocal harmonies, combined with surprising departures into swampier, foot-stomping grooves.

Various Artists/Kraut!: Die Innovativen Jahre Des Krautrock 1968-1979 Teil 4 ....import 2 CD Set $29.99
Progressive rock from Germany! Never before has there been a comparable compilation! Towards the end of the 1960s German bands began their first attempts to emancipate themselves stylistically from their US and British role models. Prog rock and pchychedelia from our country were initially smiled at internationally and disparagingly called 'Krautrock' by cult DeeJay John Peel, among others. Unorthodox formations could not be pigeonholed, and so a scene with a wide musical range was created. Various Artists/Oh! You Pretty Things: Glam Queens & Street Urchins 1970-1976 ....import 3 CD Set $39.99
In the teenage wastelands of grey early seventies Britain, where the musical landscape was dominated by introspective singer-songwriters and dour rock bands, the emergence of the outrageous, androgynous, peacock-plumaged Glam Rock scene provided a vital spark in the dark. Sadly the genre was quickly hijacked by the backroom hustlers of the British music industry and their mutton-dressed-as-glam pop idol marionettes. However, Oh! You Pretty Things ignores such lightweight fripperies to concentrate on the real deal. We focus on the twin central strands of Glam Rock: the cerebral and the visceral, with the artier, experimental element of the scene joined by the Ladbroke Grove street rockers and the Steve Marriott-channelling chirpy Cockney geezer street urchins, many of whom had been to drama school and knew how to strike a pose. We examine the trash-aesthetic fault line that joined the seedy, no-longer-swinging London of the early seventies with New York's sleazy demi-monde and the incorrigible hucksters of Hollywood. The latter were led by Kim Fowley, ably assisted by LA scenester Rodney Bingenheimer, who opened Rodney's English Disco (allegedly at Bowie's suggestion), where the underage groupies, teenage runaways and glitter queens of Sunset Strip hung out with visiting British rock royalty and the likes of Alice Cooper and a wasted Iggy Pop. Incorporating huge British bands (Roxy Music, Slade, Sweet etc) and the leading US acts on the scene (New York Dolls, Jobriath, Lou Reed, Iggy & The Stooges), our four-hour anthology of prettiest stars, prima ballerinas and real cool traders covers all bases. Some acts were defined purely by glam, others (ELO, Strawbs, Thin Lizzy) merely paid the neighbourhood a fleeting visit, while the likes of Despair and England's Glory would only find their niche after the more streetwise element of glam mutated into punk. Big hits, inexplicable misses, seminal glam texts, cult classics, key album tracks, alternative versions and even a clutch of previously unreleased but essential recordings: Oh! You Pretty Things - housed in a clamshell box that contains a 40-page booklet of amazing photos and incredible stories - assembles all these and more to act as the definitive primer of a relatively short-lived but glorious musical and pop-cultural phenomenon.

Snowy White & The White Flames/Something on Me ....CD $15.99
Snowy White is one of a handful of classic blues-orientated British electric guitar players - musicians whose sound, technique and style has echoed the originality of the blues with the excitement of contemporary rock. He has developed his own style of 'English' blues, a combination of clear, clean blues phrases and harder-edged riffs that are a recognisable feature of his very personal songs. In the Autumn of 1976 he was invited to tour America and Europe with Pink Floyd as their first augmenting musician, a gig which took up most of his time throughout 1977. In 1979, Peter Green decided to head for the studio once more and invited Snowy and his band along to jam. The result was the album entitled 'In the Skies,' now something of a collector's item. He was then asked by Pink Floyd to go to America to rehearse their new show entitled 'The Wall,' and, at the same time, the rock band Thin Lizzy invited him to become a full-time member. Snowy stayed with the band for nearly three years of touring, recording 'Chinatown' and 'Renegade' with them in 1982, before leaving to pursue his solo career. Snowy's first solo album was entitled 'White Flames.' This album included the timeless 'Bird of Paradise,' written by Snowy, which became a hit single around the world. Every year from 1999 to 2014 Snowy toured the world with Roger Waters, including the 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' and massive 'The Wall' tour. In between tours, he founded the Snowy White Blues Project, recording the albums 'In Our Time of Living' and 'In Our Time... Live.' Snowy's most recent album, 'The Situation' came out in 2018. His latest offering, 'Something on Me,' features Thomas White on drums, Rowan Bassett on bass and appearances by various The White Flames members.
