Sandy Denny/Sandy Denny Live & Solo: Ebbets Field, Denver 4.29.73 ....import CD $12.99

Sandy Denny was an English singer-songwriter who was lead singer of the British folk rock band Fairport Convention. Music publications Uncut and Mojo have described Denny as Britain's finest female singer-songwriter, and in January 2023 she was ranked #164 on Rolling Stone's list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. After briefly working with The Strawbs, Denny joined Fairport Convention in 1968, remaining with them until 1969. She formed the short-lived band Fotheringay in 1970, before focussing on a solo career. The songs featured on this mid-price release are taken from her first three solo albums: The North Star Grassman and the Ravens (1971), Sandy (1972), Like an Old Fashioned Waltz (1974). She released one further solo album Rendezvous in 1977. Denny died in 1978 at the age of 31 from head injuries sustained as a result of a fall down a flight of stairs.

Nektar/Recycled [Remastered & Expanded Edition] ....import 5 CD Set $45.99

Esoteric Records releases the new 5 CD remastered and expanded edition of this classic album, newly remastered from the original master tapes and featuring an additional 32 tracks including the first mix of the album by Geoff Emerick, along with three CDs of live concert recordings from Massey Hall, Toronto and Calderone Concert Hall, Long Island on the 1976 Recycled tour, and with illustrated booklet and new essay. First released in October 1975, the album was a conceptual work about the concerns of the impact of pollution and environmental damage to the Earth and was recorded at the Chateau d'Herouville in France and at AIR Studios in London with sessions engineered by Geoff Emerick. The album was also significant for the guest appearance of synthesizer player Larry Fast (aka Synergy, who was later to work with Peter Gabriel). 'Recycled' became another hit in Germany and the USA and spawned a long US and Canadian tour. The message of the album is arguably more pertinent now than it was at the time of its original release and remains one of Nektar's most highly regarded works. This new 5CD edition is a fine celebration of a progressive rock classic.

Re-release of the classic Klaus Schulze-album Moondawn, original released in 1976. The album is a dynamic and sometimes explosive expression of the synthesized sound so recognizable as Klaus Schulze. Klaus was working with a Big Moog for the very first time, which results in a special fat sound. On Moondawn Klaus Schulze was accompanied by Harald Grosskopf on drums. Klaus Schulze first attracted attention as a member of the German pioneers of electronic music, Tangerine Dream. Following the release of their debut LP, Electronic Meditation he departed for a solo career. Klaus' recorded work typically features extended pieces sometimes filling an entire album built around computer-generated synthesizers and other specially programmed electronic effects. 2023 was the year of the artrockers from RPWL. 'Crime Scene' entered various charts after its release. This was followed by a fantastic long European tour through eight countries with many sold-out venues. On 'Crime Scene,' the Bavarian artrock institution focused their attention on the morbid, the perverse, the evil in the good, the abysses of the human behavior spectrum in all its unpredictable diversity. Conceptually, 'Crime Scene' then logically played the central role in the live shows. The entire album was performed - including some extra songs from the band's history dating back to 1997 - accompanied by a harmonious light show with video clips. You could tell how much fun the band had with both the concept and the realization on stage. 'With RPWL the live versions are often different to those in the studio, many parts are much more extended and we often jam live,' explains guitarist Kalle Wallner. The outstanding performance in the Netherlands was filmed: 'The Poppodium Boerderij in Zoetermeer was the perfect location - great stage, great lighting, the Dutch temple of prog, so to speak. We've been playing there regularly for over twenty years and have a long and very friendly relationship with the venue and the crew,' says singer Yogi Lang. The band had undergone a rejuvenation in 2022. Bassist Markus Grutzner joined and, together with drummer Marc Turiaux, form a rhythm section of the highest caliber. Keyboardist Butsch Keys and the two singers Caroline von Brunken and Carmen Tannich completed the live line-up. The energy and homogeneity that the seven-piece band radiated live was overwhelming - a veritable firework display of emotionality and musical perfection! Even after so many years, there is no sign of RPWL being tired. On the contrary, fans can look forward to a recording full of enthusiasm and an excellent performance. It's safe to say, this is the best RPWL ever! 'True Live Crime' contains twelve songs and will be released on Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos surround sound, and double CD.

Chronicles I is the first part of a retrospective of Eloy's band history, but it is no ordinary best of album. All the tracks were re-recorded in 1993 and cover Eloy's creative phase from 1977 to 1982.Chronicles I is a brilliant album through and through. With barely any vocals at all, both, Frank Borneman on guitar and Michael Gerlach on synthesizer create atmosphere through sheer electronic mastery on each and every track. The reworking of the songs is symphonic rock with bite. The clarity and vibrancy of the sounds from the synthesizers take the listener by storm, while each track carries its own image. The aim of releasing this album was to bring out the tracks from the classic Eloy albums adapted to the sound possibilities of 1993 with a new dynamic.Representing their late-'70s and early-'80s era, with tracks from Ocean, Planets, Colours, Silent Cries and Mighty Echoes, and Time To Turn, this best-of spotlights the band in the most glorious portion of their career. While much of their music does contain lyrics, isolated here is their instrumental work, overloaded with clean, explosive energy.

Blaine L. Reininger/Ghost Festival ....import CD $19.99

Blaine L. Reininger needs no special introduction. He is an American post-punk, new-wave and alternative pop singer, songwriter, musician, multi-instrumentalist (particularly violin), writer and performer. He is known for being a member of the group Tuxedomoon since 1977 after co-founding it with Steven Brown and, latterly, for a notable music and theatre career, both as a soloist and contributor to other artists' recordings, including The Durutti Column, Snakefinger, Anna Domino, Savage Republic or Paul Haig. After learning the violin and guitar during childhood and studying music theory in San Francisco, Reininger formed with the band Tuxedomoon with composer, singer, musician and college-mate Steven Brown and appeared on early albums such as Half Mute, Desire and Suite En Sous-Sol before departing early in 1983 to pursue a solo career. He permanently rejoined Tuxedomoon in 1988 and has subsequently appeared on more recent recordings such as Vapour Trails, issued in 2007 by independent label Crammed Discs. Ghost Festival is Blaine's all-new album, following up last year's Ocean Planet on Italian label Dark Companion. Like its predecessor, it is a mix of classic Reininger songs and pieces of a more experimental nature.

Reflections in Repose captures the pure essence of Steve Roach's ever-deepening intimate embrace of silence, breath, rich harmonic inventiveness, and shifting liminal states; it's a sound and style completely unique to his electronic / ambient vision. Created over two evenings at the close of 2023, the music was recorded in the same sequenced flow as presented on the two discs' 116 minutes. The five long-form tracks were performed on a single instrument -- the Oberheim OB-X8 -- the modern equivalent of the iconic Oberheim OB-8 which Steve used 40 years ago in the making of his classic piece Structures from Silence. Steve reflects, "As I conceived these pieces, the intention and flow was to merge into the space where 'Structures' was born. Two Spooky Tooth albums dating from 1973 and released on Island Records and both making the US Top 100. 'You Broke My Heart... ' featured a new lineup with guitarist Mick Jones replacing Luther Grosvenor but still with Mike Harrison and Gary Wright. On 'Witness', Mike Patto replaced Harrison and original drummer Mike Kellie returned; however, the album's commercial failure led to Gary Wright leaving for a successful solo career and the band dissolving. Remastered 2 CD edition of the classic live album by Van Der Graaf. Mastered from the original master tapes. With fully restored artwork and new essay with band interviews. The album was the final release of the 1970s by Van der Graaf Generator, who by 1977 had abbreviated their name to Van der Graaf and featured a line-up of Peter Hammill (vocals, piano, guitars), Guy Evans (drums), Nic Potter (bass), and Graham Smith (violin) who added Charles Dickie (cello) to the band mid-way through the year. Following a long year of touring and recording the album 'The Quiet Zone / The Pleasure Dome,' the band greeted 1978 with two concerts at the Marquee Club in London on 15 and 16 January which were recorded. The concerts featured a guest appearance by former member David Jackson on saxophone and flute. 'Vital' was a brutal sonic assault and featured Van der Graaf at their most powerful and impassioned. The record proved to be their swansong of the 1970s, as by the time of the album's release in July 1978, the band had broken up due to financial difficulties.

6CD boxed set celebrating the work of Colosseum recorded between 1968 and 1971. A remastered set including the albums 'Those About to Die Salute You,' 'Valentyne Suite,' 'The Grass Is Greener,' 'Daughter of Time' and 'Colosseum Live' plus an additional 12 bonus tracks drawn from studio sessions and live recordings. Includes an illustrated book with essay. Colosseum came together in 1968, the brainchild of virtuoso drummer Jon Hiseman and saxophonist Dick Heckstall-Smith (who had played together in the Graham Bond Organisation and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers). Teaming with bass guitarist Tony Reeves and keyboard player Dave Greenslade, the line-up of the band was completed with the recruitment of guitarist and vocalist James Litherland. Their debut album, 'Those About to Die Salute You' was was one of the first successful attempts to fuse jazz, blues and rock reaching number 15 on the UK album chart. Their second album, 'Valentyne Suite', was the first release on the Progressive Vertigo imprint and spent nine weeks on the UK album chart, peaking at number 15. The album's focal point was the three part 'Valentyne Suite' which earned the band critical praise and is now regarded as a milestone in early progressive rock. In the USA and Canada the album appeared in different form in 1970 as 'The Grass is Greener' remixed and featuring new member Dave "Clem" Clempson (guitar, vocals), who replaced James Litherland in the group. The album also featured a series of songs unreleased in the UK. Released on the Vertigo in December 1970, 'Daughter of Time' heralded another line-up change within the group, featuring new recruits Mark Clarke (bass) and the distinctive lead vocalist Chris Farlowe. The album spent five weeks in UK Top 30. A series of UK concerts were recorded in 1971 and were issued in June of that year as the double LP 'Colosseum Live,' a UK Top 20 hit. Colosseum disbanded in October 1971, but were to reform in 1994. This Esoteric Recordings release also features studio bonus tracks and an additional CD of further live recordings from 1971.

One of Britain's finest guitarists, Chris Spedding has enjoyed a long career as a solo artist in his own right, a member of many bands and a highly respected session musician. He initially came to public attention via his work on the Jack Bruce album 'Songs for a Tailor' and as a member of The Battered Ornaments (featuring Bruce's writing partner Pete Brown) then the jazz-rock group Nucleus. In late 1969 he recorded the album 'Songs Without Words' for release on EMI's progressive rock label Harvest with a band featuring Roger "Butch" Potter (bass), John Marshall (drums), John Mitchell (keyboards) and Paul Rutherford (trombone). Although scheduled for a release in the UK, the album only appeared in Japan in April 1971, in part due to Spedding's unhappiness with the musical direction and feel of the album. Despite this, 'Songs Without Words' has now become regarded as fine jazz rock record of the era by aficionados of the genre. This new Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly remastered and features a booklet with new essay.

A new 4 CD box set featuring both of the concerts performed by Rick Wakeman, the English Rock Ensemble and the English Chamber Choir conducted by Guy Protheroe at the London Palladium in February 2023 where Wakeman performed two sell out concerts celebrating his most acclaimed work as a solo artist and as a member of Yes.
