Jethro Tull/The Zealot Gene [Limited Super Deluxe Edition] ....3 Vinyl LP + 2 CD + Blu-Ray Set $105.99
InsideOutMusic/Sony Music are extremely pleased to announce the signing of progressive rock legends Jethro Tull to the label. The band has already completed a new album titled 'The Zealot Gene,' which will be released 28th January 2022. A record that began to take shape as early as 2017, 'The Zealot Gene,' in many ways, seeks to defy convention during a time when the business of being a touring and recording artist has never faced more uncertainties. Tull bandleader Ian Anderson holds no reservations about the role for which the mythos and themes of Biblical storytelling played in the lyrical content of the new album, saying: "While I have a spot of genuine fondness for the pomp and fairytale story-telling of the Holy Book, I still feel the need to question and draw sometimes unholy parallels from the text. The good, the bad, and the downright ugly rear their heads throughout, but are punctuated with elements of love, respect, and tenderness." With more than 30 albums to their credit and sales totaling more than 50 million, Jethro Tull are one of the most successful rock bands of all-time with a catalog that contains classics that still resonate today. Led by Ian Anderson, Tull still continue to tour throughout the world, entertaining audiences of all ages. The group's current lineup includes Anderson, bassist David Goodier and keyboardist John O'Hara who have worked with Anderson since 2007, drummer Scott Hammond and guitarist Joe Parrish. Limited Deluxe 3LP+2CD+Blu-ray Artbook includes bonus demo material, including LP only available in this package, plus Blu-Ray featuring 5.1 surround sound mix, extensive liner notes including an interview by Tim Bowness, turntable slipmat & hand-numbered print. Also available as limited 2CD+Blu-ray Artbook & Special Edition CD Digipak.

David Bowie/Toy (Toy: Box) ....3 CD Set $38.99
David Bowie/Toy (Toy: Box) [Deluxe Vinyl Edition] ....6 10" Vinyl LPs $129.99
Toy was recorded following David's triumphant Glastonbury 2000 performance. Bowie entered the studio with his band, Mark Plati, SterlingCampbell, Gail Ann Dorsey, Earl Slick, Mike Garson, Holly Palmer and Emm Gryner, to record new interpretations of songs he'd first recorded from 1964-1971. David planned to record the album 'old school' with the band playing live, choose the best takes and then release it as soon as humanly possible in a remarkably prescient manner. Unfortunately, in 2001 the concept of the 'surprise drop' album release and the technology to support it were still quite a few years off, making it impossible to release Toy, as the album was now named, out to fans as instantly as David wanted. In the interim, David did what he did best; he moved on to something new, which began with a handful of new songs from the same sessions and ultimately became the album Heathen, released in 2002 and now acknowledged as one of his finest moments.

Copeland, King, Cosma & Belew/Gizmodrome Live ....2 CD Set $18.99
Two CD live release. With the release of their debut album Gizmodrome (2017), it was not a surprise that Stewart Copeland, Mark King, Vittorio Cosma, and Adrian Belew - each a diverse talent and musical background - created music that was vibrant, electric, and unpredictable. With a collective CV that includes The Police, Curved Air, Level 42, King Crimson, David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Talking Heads, and PFM just for starters, they combined the spirit of adventure and camaraderie that characterizes their music: a cosmopolitan blend of progressive rock and a pinch of punk with a heavy twist of avant-garde humor. Gizmodrome Live builds on the foundation laid by the band's debut album and allows for even more unpredictable outbursts of creative energy. Recorded in Florence, Rome, Tokyo, Osaka, Aschaffenburg, and London, it perfectly captures their commitment to this band and the pioneering collaboration. The fervent genius of Stewart Copeland on drums, guitars and vocals, the incredible bass and vocals of Mark King as well as the incisive guitar work and vocal parts by Adrian Belew, brilliantly rounded off by Vittorio Cosma on keys. It all comes together in a one-of-a-kind high voltage combination on Gizmodrome Live. Roedelius & Story/4 Hands ....CD $15.99
4 Hands, an intimate and surreal musical conversation on the piano from German sound pioneer Hans-Joachim Roedelius and American composer Tim Story, is an example of all the warm yet otherworldly beauty that can come from approaching a shared love for a singular instrument from overlapping directions. Recorded sequentially but on one and the same grand piano, Roedelius laid down a few impromptu piano etudes in May 2019 whilst visiting his transatlantic friend Story. Tim then learned all their intricate phrasings to add his own parts in the following months.
Porcupine Tree/Voyage 34 ....CD $14.99
Voyage 34 is a concept album, where the LSD trip of a young man called Brian is told with spoken words. Musically it is a fusion of progressive rock, psychedelic rock and trance music. Originally a 30-minute track intended to be the second disc of Up the Downstair, Wilson eventually decided to release "Voyage 34" independently of the rest of the album. It was released in two parts, as singles and as Phase I & Phase II in 1992. In 1993, Voyage 34: Remixes was released, containing two remixes of the originals. "Voyage 34 (Phase III)" was a remix by the British electronic music group Astralasia, while "Voyage 34 (Phase IV)" was a remix by Wilson himself, along with future band member Richard Barbieri. A voice sample of Dead Can Dance's song "As the Bell Rings the Maypole Spins" is repeated throughout all four tracks as well as a synth effect sampled from Van der Graaf Generator's song "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers." Steven Wilson said of Voyage 34: "The whole point about Voyage 34 was an exercise in genre. In that sense it stands apart from the rest of the catalogue...back in the early '90s, there was an explosion in ambient music, a fusion of electronic music and techno music with the philosophy of people like Brian Eno and Tangerine Dream. I thought there was an interesting opportunity to do something that would bring progressive rock and psychedelia into that mixture. I wouldn't say Voyage 34 was a technical exercise, that makes it sound like a science project, but it was a one-off experiment in a particular genre in which I knew I wouldn't be staying for very long."
Gavin Harrison/Sanity & Gravity ....CD $14.99
Gavin Harrison has established himself as one of the most revered drummers in the progressive rock scene in recent years. As a member of The Pineapple Thief, Porcupine Tree and King Crimson, as well as guesting on numerous acclaimed recordings, he has secured a reputation as one of the most thrilling drummers around. In 1997 Gavin released Sanity & Gravity, an impressively ego-free debut solo release featuring performances from a stellar line-up including Mick Karn, Richard Barbieri, Jakko Jakszyk (21st Century Schizoid Band) and Dave Stewart (Egg, National Health). Avoiding making a typical 'solo' drum album as a means of demonstrating his prodigious technique, Gavin created an expressive and emotional album that is strong on both groove and melody. Gavin recalls, "When I was originally faced with the prospect of making a 'solo' drum album I decided I would take a more experimental approach to playing my instrument, I felt there was a way to express emotion from the drums played from a more melodic point of view and compose in a way as if I were playing an instrument like a piano. I was extremely happy to collaborate with so many of my favourite musicians and that they would be open minded and sympathetic to the experimental approach. This record made so many of my rhythmic and melodic dreams come true." The original album has gone on to gain legendary status in the 25 years following its original conception with the CD fetching high sums on the resale market. 2022 will see Kscope re-present Sanity & Gravity, newly remastered with an exclusive bonus track and new cover artwork for the anniversary edition.
Paul Draper/Cult Leader Tactics ....CD $16.99
Paul Draper/Cult Leader Tactics [Deluxe Limited Edition] ....import 3 CD + DVD + Book Box Set $94.99
Kscope will release acclaimed songwriter and former Mansun frontman Paul Draper's Cult Leader Tactics, his first album since 2017's lauded Spooky Action. Cult Leader Tactics is a satire on the genre of self-help manuals. It details how to get to the top of your chosen profession or how to get on in life in general and in affairs of the heart by acting in a Machiavellian manner and employing dirty tricks or 'Cult Leader Tactics' to achieve your life goals. Lyrically the album is made up of extracts from a fictitious self-help manual 'Cult Leader Tactics,' a parody of the self-help manual genre. After experiencing these types of human behaviour and themes, the album arrives at the conclusion the only true answer in life is love. These and other themes are subtly referenced in each song and explored on a collection of Paul's best songwriting since Mansun's imperial phase. Nowhere is this exemplified more than on the instantly catchy and destined to be classic, 'You've Got No Life Skills, Baby!,' which is reminiscent of the best artrock-meets-pop moments of Mansun's Attack of the Grey Lantern. Paul plays the majority of the instruments, including guitars, drum machines and synthesisers. It also features guest appearances from revered musician and producer Steven Wilson, who co-wrote and plays on 'Omega Man' - a collaboration about his and Paul's feelings of isolation during lockdown - Gamaliel 'Gam' Rendle Traynor from the band Sweat, who played, arranged and engineered all strings (recorded at Sweat Studios, Peckham, London), as well as a 288-person C.L.T. Lockdown Choir who sing on 'Lyin' Bout Who U Sleep With.' The strictly limited 60-page, 4-disc set includes 24 chapters of exclusive extracts from the book 'Cult Leader Tactics' written by Paul Draper & only available exclusively as part of this deluxe set. The 4 discs include: Disc 1 - 'Cult Leader Tactics' album, Disc 2 - Outtakes, demos & bloopers from the 'Cult Leader Tactics' sessions. Disc 3 - DVD NTSC 0 of 'Cult Leader Tactics' in full 5.1 Surround sound & Hi-resolution audio. Disc 4 - Acoustic & stripped-down versions of 'Cult Leader Tactics' songs and exclusive live stripped down Paul Draper & Mansun songs from the live O Nest performance Tokyo, 2019, performed by Paul Draper & Ben Sink.

Freak Out! My Life with Frank Zappa: Laurel Canyon 1968 - 1971 ....Book $19.99
'Only the most ardent Zappaphile or various Mothers of Invention and hangers-on who made up the freak show surrounding Frank Zappa's Laurel Canyon log cabin would recognize the name of Pauline Butcher. Even so, Freak Out! gives the onetime English secretary and part-time modeling instructor the opportunity to tell her insider's view of the head Mother, one that's revelatory and keenly perceptive. In 1967, Zappa ordered a typist up to his London hotel room, and when Butcher arrived, they hit it off to such an extent that eventually he offered her a job as his personal secretary. She accepted, moved to Los Angeles, and was promptly thrown into madness that from the distance of time seems irresistible. With a backdrop of the chaotic late 1960s extending into 1972, Butcher battles Zappa's wife Gail, develops interesting friendships with musician Ian Underwood and album artist Cal Schenkel, wrangles the GTO's (an all-girl act produced by Zappa), and meets a variety of eccentrics and rock stars: Tiny Tim, Captain Beefheart, Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck and members of Pink Floyd. Offering deeply personal glimpses of Zappa, Butcher's coming-of-age story is so captivating and vividly told that many will be surprised to discover it's her first book.' - The Austin Chronicle
Faust/1971-1974 ....import 8 CD Box Set $115.99
Hamburg's excellent imprint Bureau B, one of whose investigative strands in recent years has been bringing forth unheard works from the Krautrock archives, is to mark the half-century of Faust, the seminal band who formed in the pastoral surrounds of Wumme, near Bremen, in 1971 and whose bargain-priced "The Faust Tapes" compiled for the UK market found its way into so many homes and introduced the sound of new Germany to the country. The new box set is entitled Faust 1971-1974. "There is no group more mythical than Faust," said Julian Cope in his sought-after guide to the genre, Krautrocksampler, and if influence and myth and folklore and stories are a guide then Faust are right up there with the Velvets about whom there's the old axiom, "everyone who bought one went out and started a band," as attributed to Brian Eno. The box set will form a virtually complete collection of Faust material from 1971 to 1974. In addition to the debut album it will include 1972's So Far, the legendary The Faust Tapes, Faust IV and, for the first time ever, the mythical so-called "Munich album" Punkt which Faust recorded at Giorgio Moroder's Musicland Studios in 1974 but which has never seen the light of day - until now. Bonus albums Momentaufnahme I and Momentaufnahme II also feature unreleased material from the band's Wumme studio era. Mastered from the original tapes, Faust 1971-1974 will be available as a limited edition run of 1,000 only on CD.
The Residents/Wormwood Box: Curious Stories from the Bible [pREServed Edition] ....9 CD Box Set $85.99
As the second Millennium AD drew to a close, The Residents began to take stock on a couple of thousand years of reasonably fruitful human endeavour. One text, they felt, had inescapably set the tone and dominated the narrative throughout the Western world for most of that period often clouding the view as they looked back. Sure enough The Bible, Testaments Old and New, seemed like fertile ground for a confused, anonymous band approaching their fourth decade. Throughout 1998 and 1999 The Residents set about writing, recording and extensively touring a set of songs based around some of the more curious, unsettling and downright messed up stories they found upon revisiting their old Sunday School Bibles and present here the results of those industrious years. Complete with demos and sketches, two full live recordings, a live-in-the-studio reworking and the usual assorted ephemera plus later live recordings, 'The Wormwood Box' showcases a project the band still think of very fondly, and have often revisited. Join us and marvel as the Eyeball Oddballs somehow cram murder, rape, incest, vengeance, slaughter and, erm, circumcision into a radio friendly pop format! Spread across an inescapably unwieldy 9CDs at the group's insistence, 'The Wormwood Box' is the final, definitive word on The Residents' Millennially-challenged adventures and explorations within The Good Book. Or so it says here. Remastered, expanded, and pREServed for future generations, this is the latest in a series of archival Residents' re-issues that will continue throughout 2022 as the band celebrate their 50th Anniversary. Look out for forthcoming deluxe vinyl re-issues of the classic 1970s albums, a brand new OST recording for a forthcoming film and further pREServed releases as the year unfolds. The Residents will also be touring extensively - why not go keep them company one evening.
Skeleton Crew/Free Dirt (Live) ....2 CD Set $23.99
Skeleton Crew was founded in the early 1980s by Fred Frith (of Henry Cow) and Tom Cora. The original idea was to create a new group out of the ashes of Massacre, but medical issues of several potential members saw Frith & Cora end up as a duo. They started experimenting with what they could achieve by themselves, recorded the fantastic debut album Learn to Talk and finally decided to take the new project out on the road. Dave Newhouse of The Muffins joined them for these live shows which proved very successful. Back in the studio, Frith and Cora recorded their second and last album, The Country of Blinds, and afterwards went on tour again. This time, they were joined by multi-instrumentalist Zeena Parkins who had already played on the recent album. Fred Frith remembers the days of touring as very low-key affairs with incredibly exciting results, saying the songs they played sounded very differrent every single night, such was the energy that was created by the band on stage. Everybody who has seen them perform will agree that Skeleton Crew on stage was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After several years of searching for recordings, mixing and mastering, and held up by the global pandemic, we are proud to finally offer you this double CD of live recordings, including songs that never ended up on any of their albums.
Bent Knee/Frosting ....CD $14.99
Bent Knee is a band without frontiers. It's borderless sound combines myriad influences from across the rock, pop, minimalist and avant-garde spectrums into a seamless, thrilling whole. Fiercely innovative, the group bridges the gap between the experimental and the familiar merging texture and style into music that's moving addictive and unapologetically original. On their new album "Frosting" they take years of work and push those borders out as far as the eye can see.
Eberhard Weber/Once Upon a Time - Live in Avignon ....CD $18.99
From ECM, Once Upon a Time Live in Avignon, recorded at Avignon's Theatre des Halles in August 1994, presents Eberhard Weber's unique approach to the solo recital. The album sees the bassist balancing compositions from his albums Orchestra and Pendulum with a vibrant rendition of "My Favorite Things" and his own "Trio for Bassoon and Bass," revealing fresh aspects of his distinctive musical diction.
Steve Vai/Inviolate ....CD $16.99
Over the course of a more than 40-year career, Steve Vai has routinely transformed what would appear to be outrageously impossible into something very, very possible... and still also pretty outrageous. From his days as Frank Zappa's "stunt guitar" player to his more recent expansive and exploratory solo work, Vai has continually challenged notions of traditional guitar playing and composition - and on more than one occasion even reimagined the very instrument itself - which, he'll admit, is not necessarily his intention. "I don't sit around and say, okay, what can I do now that pushes the boundaries?," Vai explains about his approach to the guitar. "What I do say to myself is, 'Okay, Vai - what are you going to do now that's going to interest you, that's going to fascinate you, and that's different than anything you've done before?'" The answer to that question comes in the form of Vai's newest and 10th solo album, Inviolate, a nine-song opus that does indeed push the boundaries of instrumental guitar music - this time out, Vai quite literally invented not just a new guitar, but also a new guitar-playing technique. "An inviolate inspiration is one that comes to you completely pure," Vai explains. "It appears almost in it's completeness, and there's a recognition of it as being right for you - perfectly right for you. There's no excuses in it. There's no fantasy in it. There's just a recognition of 'yes.' And then you capture that in a way that's authentic to your unique creativity. Hopefully, that's what I've done with this record."
Sparks/Annette ....2 CD Set $22.99
Great success of the 74th edition of the Cannes Festival, the film won best soundtrack and best director awards. Based on an original story and music by Ron and Russell Mael, the brothers behind the flamboyant band Sparks, Annette began life as an (unreleased) album but was transformed into a musical after they met Leos Carax. Having successfully maintained a five-decade-long career as one of the world's most innovative and creative bands, it comes as no surprise that their collaboration with the visionary French director has resulted in a unique piece of film-making. The original soundtrack to Annette, with lyrics co-written by Sparks and Leos Carax and music composed and performed by Sparks, features vocals from the stars of the film: Adam Driver (Henry), Marion Cotillard (Ann) and Simon Helberg (The Conductor). Produced by Sparks and entirely supervised by Leos Carax himself, the soundtrack unveils itself in its new Unlimited Edition: a version that includes all the music of the film in a magnificent double CD containing no less than 63 tracks (!) including 6 demos and unreleased tracks used during the conception of the film as exclusive bonus. A 28-pages booklet containing all the lyrics of the songs perfectly completes this collector version. Dive inside Annette's universe and (re)live all the emotion of Leos Carax's last masterpiece. About Annette: Present-day Los Angeles. Henry is an outspoken stand-up comedian, Ann a world-famous singer. They're a happy celebrity couple, living life in the glare of the spotlight, but their world is turned upside-down by the birth of their first child, Annette, a mysterious little girl with an exceptional destiny.
Big Big Train/Welcome to the Planet ....import CD $24.99
'Welcome to the Planet' is the next studio album by Big Big Train and comes six months after the release of the band's critically acclaimed top 40 album 'Common Ground.' As with 'Common Ground.' 'Welcome to the Planet' sees Big Big Train retain their progressive roots but also take influence from all spheres of music. The album's opener 'Made from Sunshine,' co-written by guitarist Dave Foster and singer David Longdon, has guitar lines redolent of Johnny Marr and vocal harmonies reminiscent of the Finn Brothers/Crowded House, with violinist Clare Lindley sharing lead vocals with Longdon. Elsewhere on the album, keyboard player Carly Bryant gets her first Big Big Train writing credit and lead vocal on the captivating title track. The two recent singles 'The Connection Plan' and 'Lanterna' are included along with a winter themed song 'Proper Jack Froster,' a bittersweet tale of childhood. The album is completed by the delicate acoustic 'Capitoline Venus,' the beautiful 'Oak and Stone' and a pair of dazzling instrumentals, 'A Room with No Ceiling' and 'Bats in the Belfry,' written by guitarist/keyboardist Rikard Sjoblom and drummer Nick D'Virgilio respectively.

Jonesy/Waltz for Yesterday: Recordings 1972-1974 ....import 3 CD Set $39.99
Jonesy are one of the great British progressive rock bands of the early 1970s who, despite recording some of the most impressive and intelligent music of the era, sadly failed to make a commercial impact. The band was formed in 1971 by guitarist John Evan-Jones, who emigrated to Australia with his brother Trevor in the 1950s. By the mid-1960s, the Jones brothers had formed the band Chaos and Co and had enjoyed success. Returning to the UK in 1969, John forged a career as a session guitarist but by 1971 had formed Jonesy with Jame Kaleth (mellotron, keyboards, vocals), David Paull (bass, vocals) and Jim Payne (drums, percussion). This line-up signed a contract with Pye's progressive imprint Dawn and recorded their first album in May 1972. 'No Alternative' featured the track 'Ricochet' which gained airplay and positive reviews in the European music press where the band were compared with acts such as King Crimson and Yes and praised for their originality. In 1973 the band line-up changed with John's brother, Trevor 'Gypsy' Jones, returning from Australia and joining on bass and vocals. They were joined by legendary musician Alan Bown on electric trumpet and flugelhorn and Richard 'Plug' Thomas on drums. The musical direction of the band became even more progressive and the album 'Keeping Up' earned very favourable reviews and resulted in the band touring Europe. Jonesy's the third album, 'Growing,' was produced by Rupert Hine and released to great acclaim in November 1973 receiving the Montreux Diamond Award as the top rock/pop album of the year in early 1974. Despite such a positive critical response, the band departed Dawn Records. John and Trevor formed a new line-up of Jonesy with Bernard Hagley (electric saxes and flute), David Potts (drums) and Ken Elliott (keyboards) and returned to the studio to record a final album, 'Sudden Prayers Make God Jump.' The album was one of the band's finest, but due to issues with management, it failed to gain a release. The recordings first appeared in 2003, sourced from a cassette tape, but in 2021 the original master recordings were located and have been remastered for this collection.
Mandy Morton & Spriguns/After the Storm: Complete Recordings ....import 5 CD + DVD Box Set $79.99
Spriguns of Tolgus (later shortened to just Spriguns) were a British folk rock group formed in 1972 who have long been admired by connoisseurs of that era. Having made two self-funded albums they attracted a major label deal with Decca for two further LPs which demonstrated their growing originality and caught the attention of some significant figures in that world. However, Spriguns were unable to attain mainstream success and they disbanded in 1978. Their lead singer and co-songwriter Mandy Morton continued a solo career establishing a foothold in Scandinavia for a time and making three albums thereafter. Compiled and co-ordinated by Mandy herself, 'After the Storm' is an ambitious 6CD and DVD box set which offers the entire recorded output of Spriguns and Mandy Morton in their various musical guises from their lo-fi cassette-only album 'Rowdy Dowdy Day' from 1972 to the final Mandy Morton Band LP 'Valley of Light' from 1983. Many of the above have been remastered for the first time directly from the original master tapes. And in addition Mandy discovered several previously unreleased tracks, which appear as bonuses. The whole package has been beautifully designed, with a plethora of illustrations and sleevenotes by Mandy herself. In every respect 'After the Storm' is the ultimate tribute to the music of Spriguns and Mandy Morton - long held in high esteem by folk rock collectors "in the know" but deserving of a deluxe box set to pay proper homage to their musical legacy.

John Mayall/The Sun Is Shining Down ....CD $17.99
On his latest album, The Sun is Shining Down, blues legend John Mayall teams up with a stellar cast to deliver a funky soulful affair punctuated by brass, violins, harmonica and electric ukulele. The album explores a range of styles and eclectic instruments. Scarlet Rivera's violin beautifully compliments two Mayall originals, the timely "Got to Find a Better Way" and a spirited reboot of the Mayall classic "Deep Blue Sea." Mike Campbell sounds like a natural born Bluesbreaker on the funky Bernard Allison cut "Chills and Thrills" and Marcus King sizzles throughout the soulful "Can't Take No More," another Mayall original. Buddy Miller's baritone tremolo guitar adds a unique and memorable flair to the Bobby Rush composition "I'm as Good as Gone," while Jake Shimabukuro's electric ukulele is nothing short of astonishing on "One Special Lady." Melvin Taylor proves why he's been wowing Chicago blues audiences for decades on "Hungry and Ready" and "Driving Wheel" and Carolyn Wonderland brilliantly concludes the record with a sensitive moving performance on the title track. As significant as each of these guest turns is, however, they can't overshadow Mayall's own spirited vocals, iconic harmonica and lyrical keyboard work on The Sun Is Shining Down.

Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of 'Rollin,' a new box set featuring all of the albums recorded by The Steve Gibbons Band released between 1976 and 1978. This legendary rock band was formed in the mid 1970s and comprised some of the finest musicians on the Birmingham rock scene. Steve Gibbons had been a figure on the Birmingham scene since the early 1960s and had been a frontman of the group The Uglys until they disbanded in late 1968. In 1969 Gibbons founded the group Balls with Trevor Burton and Denny Laine, but that group fell apart within 14 months before Gibbons was to join the last incarnation of The Idle Race in 1971. This line-up, which also featured Dave Carroll and Bob Wilson on guitars and Bob Lamb on drums eventually evolved into The Steve Gibbons Band with the arrival of Trevor Burton on bass and vocals. Burton had been a member of The Move until 1969 and was a member of the group Balls. With this line-up in place, the band perfected their hard driving blend of rhythm and blues and rock, touring the pub and club circuit in Britain. In 1975 they were spotted by Peter Meaden (The Who's first manager) and were soon signed to The Who's management stable. Their first album, 'Any Road Up,' featured a guest appearance from John Entwistle and was issued in 1976. The same year the band supported The Who on tour and also toured the USA supporting acts such as Little Feat, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Nils Lofgren. In 1977 the band supported Be Bop Deluxe on their UK tour and recorded the album 'Rollin' On,' which featured the hit single 'Tulane.' Later that year the live album 'Caught in the Act' was released and sold well in Europe. This was followed in 1978 with another studio album, 'Down in the Bunker,' produced by Tony Visconti.

Released in conjunction with the artist! Regarded as one of the 20th Century's greatest guitarists, Robben Ford's credentials as both sideman and solo artist read like a musicians' Who's Who. ' As a child he played the saxophone and by fourteen had taken up the guitar, playing with his brothers in the Charles Ford Blues Band. While still a teenager he was hired to play with bluesman Charlie Musselwhite, and also recorded with Jimmy Witherspoon. Having been a member of jazz fusion band L. A. Express and later the Yellowjackets, the Grammy Award nominee has collaborated with such musical heavyweights as Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell, George Harrison, Gregg Allman and Little Feat. Fast forward to the early '90s and Robben Ford and the Blue line (bassist Roscoe Beck, drummer Tom Brechtlein and pianist Bill Boublitz) had been touring internationally pretty much non-stop, playing mostly large venues, festivals and outdoor events. The band had always talked about how much they relished the intimacy of a small venue and the opportunity to stretch out musically and really open up. These recordings showcase their enjoyment. Recorded at Yoshi's, the celebrated Oakland restaurant and jazz venue, this album originates from the band's appearances there during the week of 15-19 April 1996. In the wake of his US Billboard No. 1 Blues album Pure, we can now experience Robben Ford and the Blue Line live on stage in the intimate surroundings of this renowned jazz venue.
