O.R.k./Soul of an Octopus ....CD $15.99

O.R.k./Soul of an Octopus ....CD $15.99

2017 release. Following on the heels of 2015's captivating Inflamed Rides, the members of the powerful collective O.R.k. - lead singer Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari, Porcupine Tree bassist Colin Edwin, Marta Sui Tubi guitarist Carmelo Pipitone and King Crimson drummer Pat Mastelotto - were primed to deliver an even more potent statement for their sophomore offering. Coming off of a triumphant tour of Europe and South America, they were charged to take things up a notch. And so it was with Soul of an Octopus, their second recording and RareNoise debut. This one finds the four kindred spirits dealing in even deeper waters. "After Inflamed Rides we did around 30 shows in Europe, Argentina, Chile and Mexico this year," says Fornasari. "That definitely helped us to reign in our sound and get to a more focused mutual vision. So all the pieces from the new album represent an honest and effective picture of who we are as O.R.k. right now."

Mumpbeak/Tooth ....CD $15.99

Mumpbeak/Tooth ....CD $15.99

On the follow up to their formidable self-titled debut on RareNoise Records in 2013, Mumpbeak again conjures up memories of vintage King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Gentle Giant and other prog-rock pioneers on Tooth. Led by the innovative keyboardist-composer and Oslo-based UK expatriate Roy Powell, whose other RareNoise output includes releases by Interstatic and Naked Truth, and featuring bassist and longtime collaborator Lorenzo Feliciati (Powell's band mate in Naked Truth who has also released the solo albums Frequent Flyer and KOI on RareNoise), this new edition of the prog-rock-jazz power trio showcases the remarkable Norwegian drummer Torstein Lofthus, who is also a member of the avant garde group Shining and the psychedelic prog-rock-jazz trio Elephant 9.

Led Bib/Umbrella Weather ....CD $15.99

Led Bib/Umbrella Weather ....CD $15.99

Easily the most adventurous and audacious outfit on today's UK jazz scene, Led Bib has built a reputation over the course of seven albums for expansive improvisations and treks into genre defying music of throbbing intensity. For their RareNoise Records debut, the five-piece group from London continues pushing the envelope on Umbrella Weather. Fueled by the muscular drumming of ringleader Mark Holub and the intense fuzz bass lines of Liran Donin, further tweaked by atmospheric washes and crunchy keyboard action from Toby McLaren and sparked by the pungent twin alto saxes of Peter Grogan and Chris Williams, Led Bib stakes out a unique spot in the musical terrain that falls somewhere between the realms of John Zorn, Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus and Eric Dolphy.

Gaudi/Magnetic ....CD $15.99

Gaudi/Magnetic ....CD $15.99

Magnetic is the exciting new album by London based music producer / musician Gaudi, which features a choice selection of sounds from the catalogue of internationally respected experimental label RareNoiseRecords, as well as direct contributions by several top caliber musicians from the worlds of rock, jazz and electronica. The making of Magmetoc truly was a creational challenge, even for a man who has been working to dissolve musical boundaries for over 35 years. The initial idea of the project was to compose an album of entirely new music using sounds from the RareNoise catalogue as his 'orchestra of musicians.'  Over the course of its development it grew though into a full spectrum artistic interaction with a further array of international music giants, some of which Gaudi has worked in past with.

Jamie Saft/Loneliness Road ....CD $15.99

Jamie Saft/Loneliness Road ....CD $15.99

2017 release. Over a career now spanning nearly thirty years, Jamie Saft has established himself as one of the visionaries of contemporary American music. As a composer, pianist and keyboard innovator, and collaborator of music icons such as Bad Brains, Beastie Boys, the B-52s, Donovan, John Adams and John Zorn, he has been fearless in his pursuit of spiritual elevation through music that both seeks to embrace the whole American canon, and also transcend it, by seamlessly assimilating genres, traditions, idioms and timelines. His collaboration with London based progressive label RareNoise, now dating back to 2012, reflects this polymathic approach, as can be gleaned from listening to the array of path-breaking, irreducible recordings he released with them: among these, one of the most successful was a piano trio collaboration with jazz giants Steve Swallow and Bobby Previte, The New Standard. In Loneliness Road, the follow-up album to that acclaimed 2014 release, the trio of Saft, Swallow and Previte are joined on three tracks ("Don't Lose Yourself," "Loneliness Road," "Everyday") by singer Iggy Pop.

Cuong Vu 4Tet/Ballet (the Music Of Michael Gibbs) ....CD $15.99

Cuong Vu 4Tet/Ballet (the Music Of Michael Gibbs) ....CD $15.99

2017 release. On the heels of his acclaimed 2016 recording, Cuong Vu Trio Meets Pat Metheny and his 2014 collaboration with electro-acoustic pianist-composer and Director of the School of Music at the University of Washington Richard Karpen on their Ellington-Strayhorn tribute That the Days Go By and Never Come Again, trumpeter-composer Cuong Vu joins forces with guest guitarist Bill Frisell on Ballet, a tribute to renowned composer-arranger Michael Gibbs. With regular Vu 4Tet bassist Luke Bergman and drummer Ted Poor, the four exchange ideas in the moment in a collective fashion on the expansive opening track, "Ballet," which gradually morphs into a kind of quirky, dissonant blues waltz featuring brilliant solos from Vu and Frisell. Regarding this exhilarating Vu 4Tet project, Vu says, "This was a very collective/equal opportunity effort, so we just played and dealt with the cards collectively as they were dealt. I think it just comes down to the collection of players and our individual aesthetics coming together and trying to find a common goal/language." They succeed in triumphant fashion on Ballet, the second collaboration between Cuong Vu and Bill Frisell (their first was Vu's 2005 ArtistShare album Mostly Residual).

Bill Brovold & Jamie Saft/Serenity Knolls ....CD $15.99

Bill Brovold & Jamie Saft/Serenity Knolls ....CD $15.99

2017 release. Jamie Saft has been a significant presence on RareNoiseRecords since the label's inception. Now, on Serenity Knolls, he stakes out some completely different territory. An intimate duo project with guitarist Bill Brovold, a former member of such New York no-wave bands as the Rhys Chatham Ensemble, the East Village Orchestra and the Zen Vikings, it features Saft alternating between playing dobro and lap steel on a set of 12 ambient type tunes with a distinctive heartland undercurrent to them. An accomplished keyboardist-composer who has been widely acknowledged for his work with various John Zorn projects, including The Dreamers, Electric Masada and Moonchild, the Queens native and current resident of Kingston in upstate New York has nonetheless has maintained a longstanding relationship with the guitar. As he explains, "I've played guitar since I was a youth as well as bass guitar, so this isn't something new for me at all. In fact, my guitar playing is featured on many of my albums such as Breadcrumb Sins (Tzadik), Sunshine Seas (RareNoise) and Black Shabbis (Tzadik) as well as being prominently featured in my original score for the Oscar nominated film Murderball."

Ju/Summa ....CD $15.99

Ju/Summa ....CD $15.99

Following the success of their acclaimed RareNoise debut, 2014's Ju Meets Moster (a killer collaboration with renowned Norwegian saxophonist Kjetil Moster) the experimental Budapest-based trio of guitarist Adám Meszaros, bassist Erno Hock and drummer Andras Halmos once again bridges hellacious free jazz, throbbing hardcore rock and spacious world and ambient music on their ecstatic, envelope-pushing opus, Summa. Alternately calm (the 12-minute "Jimma Blue") and crushing ("Mongrel Mangrove," "My Heart Is Somewhere Else" and the blistering title track), Summa stands as another powerful manifesto against complacency by the renegade trio. Moster does appear as special guest alongside celebrated Hungarian electroacoustic composer Balint Bolcso on the expansive 12-minute track "Partir," providing a bridge to the first album.

Reflections in Cosmo/Reflections in Cosmo ....CD $15.99

Reflections in Cosmo/Reflections in Cosmo ....CD $15.99

The fire and fury of '60s free jazz and the tumult of electronic rock tinged experimental music is on full display on this new powerhouse offering from four cutting edge Oslo based musicians collectively known as Reflection in Cosmo. With Kjetil Moster on saxes, Hans Magnus Ryan on guitar, Stale Storlokken on keyboards and Thomas Stronen on drums, these four kindred spirits strike a tumultuous accord on their self titled debut on RareNoise Records, which represents Moster's followup on RareNoise to his edgy avant jazz collaboration in 2014 with the Hungarian power trio Ju. At times recalling the ferocious intensity of the late '80s free jazz quartet Last Exit (Peter Brotzman, Sonny Sharrock, Bill Lawell, Ronald Shannon Jackson), this potent Norwegian outfit pushes the envelope with Moster's blowtorch intensity on baritone and tenor saxes, Ryan's wailing electric guitar work, Storlokken's crunchy, distortion laced keyboards and Stronen's thunderous drumming.

Bobby Previte/Mass ....CD $15.99

Bobby Previte/Mass ....CD $15.99

Obake/Draugr ....CD $15.99

Obake, a term which in Japanese identifies a ghost or the spirit of the deceived unwilling to leave, are back with their third release on RareNoise, Draugr. The hellish abstract metalcore quartet of Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari on vocals, Eraldo Bernocchi on baritone guitars, Colin Edwin on bass and Jacopo Pierazzuoli on drums are back with their most focused and terrifying album to date. They attack the lands of mathcore, prog, ambient and drone with relentless and fear-inducing mathematical brutality.
