It wasn't that long ago that Mike Pinder was on top of the world as part of one of pop music's supergroups, the Moody Blues. And suddenly in the late seventies he completely walked away from the world of music into an early retirement. The reason? In his mind it was time to raise a family and he felt that the rigors of recording and endless touring didn't make for a loving, nurturing family environment. His fans couldn't help but have great respect for such a decision. But they missed him terribly all the same.
I doubt Mike will ever regret that choice and will probably always consider his sons, Dan, Michael Lee and Matthew, as his greatest works. But the boys are older now and it should come as no wonder that Mike has been itching to get back into the studio. And so comes the birth of One Step Records.
Pinder Brothers/Melancholy Sea ....CD $15.99
The Pinder Brothers' new 'Melancholy Sea' makes waves with sing-a-long melodies and crafty alt-rock rrrangements. Sons of Moody Blues founding member Mike Pinder carry on the tradition, as their own SoCal followers continue to burgeon. The Pinder Brothers may not be the first pair of siblings to proffer an intrinsic fusion of vocal harmonies, but add to the mix crafty sing-a-long melodies and enough of a rock edge to engage the masses. That is the musical mantra of these brothers in arms' third full-length release "Melancholy Sea." Of course, the many current fans of Matthew and Michael Lee are already aware of one other essential factor. Lets call it pedigree. Their dad Mike Pinder was a founding member of the legendary Moody Blues, who not only fulfilled the enduring band's mellotron duties, but also contributed harmony vocals. The Pinder Brothers mesh the harmonies of Crosby, Stills and Nash alongside the songwriting style of Simon & Garfunkel, and ultimately add their own modern spin. Listeners will hear all of this and more in "Melancholy Sea," which the pair wrote, played and arranged. The project's masterfully penned lyrics create a sonic tapestry that dazzles the ear....much like the colors of a seashell inspire the eye. The brothers' voices harmonize beautifully, accompanied by arrangements that deftly ease from a bed of crunchy electric guitars into warm overdriven tones that layer as naturally as sheets and a blanket. It could be said that The Pinder Brothers have '60s Brit-rock heritage in their DNA, with a healthy dose of California style thrown in. Hailing from Northern California, Matt and Michael Pinder grew up playing music and performing together whenever possible. How could they not, with the sounds of the lost chord echoing softly in their ears. Thankfully, Mike Pinder's innate talent has been passed on to his sons - who are now creating their own legacy.

Mike Pinder/Among the Stars (remastered) ....CD $12.99
Mike released his 2nd solo CD in 1994. Today the message for the world is just as timely and beautiful. True freedom is spread around us, right here, right now, today. It seems only fitting that Mike has chosen to re-master that music and message in 2008! "When the time came for a new pressing (60's lingo) of ATS, I took the opportunity to make a few changes with the help of Ken Lee Mastering. Incidentally, Ken Lee mastered a couple of our Moodies Core 7 albums for the USA. The changes are subtle, a steam cleaning if you will. Clearer and warmer is the result. I sincerely hope you enjoy the re-mastered version. Don't forget to wind the handle." Mike Pinder

The Pinder Brothers/Ordinary Man ....CD $12.99

Once again father Mike provides some exquisite Mellotron work. This time around production chores are handled by someone very familiar to Moody Blues - Tony Clarke who produced the Moodies albums from 1966 to 1979 (not to mention his work with many other artists such as John Mayall, Rick Wakeman, Clannad and Justin Hayward and John Lodge both separately and together as the Blue Jays).
The Pinder Brothers/Jupiter Falls ....CD $13.99
The name Pinder will strike a chord with fans of the legendary Moody Blues. Mike Pinder started the Moodies back in 1965 and his great voice and mellotron gave the band a sound that still echoes down the hallways of rock's heritage. Now the name Pinder is back, this time with Mike's two sons, Matt and Mike, throwing their hats into the rock arena with The Pinder Brothers. Indeed Matt Pinder and Mike Lee Pinder, are out to make their own noise as The Pinder Brothers. Great playing and a batch of some great new songs give these guys a green light to carry the Pinder sound further. The title track of their 2006 CD, Jupiter Falls is a future pop classic by any standard. And father Mike Pinder, it seems, can't help joining in on the fun providing the occasional percussion, synth, Chamberlain and Mellotron!
