Musea is a 10-year old non-profit record label dedicated to the promotion of Progressive Rock. This style of music was made popular in the 70's by bands such as Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Van der Graaf Generator, Magma, Ange, and many others. However, the rough rules of the market and the lack of media support led Progressive music to lose favor by the late 70's.
Despite this public desertion throughout the 80's and 90's, artists from around the whole world perpetuate this aesthetic. Opposed to rigid formulae, Progressive music mixes Rock with elements from other horizons such as classical music (Yes, Genesis, ELP), jazz (Soft Machine, Caravan), electronic music (Heldon, Tangerine Dream), world music (Peter Gabriel) and many more.
During these last two decades, many artists have released masterpieces of great interest; but due to media disinterest, these gems have not yet reached the music lover's ears. The realization of this problem led to the founding of Musea. For many years, a crew of volunteers has participated in this adventure with no other aim than that of sharing the huge pleasure they feel while listening to these unknown treasures. With its production of hundreds of records (original releases and reissues) , Musea offers any open-minded listener bored with commercial music imposed by a media ruled by money, a collection of gems that lead to new and exciting musical horizons.
Magellan/Innocent God ....import CD $18.99

Historically speaking, MAGELLAN is one of the most important bands of the Progressive
rock revival at the beginning of the Nineties. Recognizable from the first notes, its
music unlike any other can be described as an unlikely meeting between monumental
keyboards parts, strong guitar riffs and rhythms changes as numerous as they are
audacious. You might imagine YES suddenly going crazy, under the guidance of a mad mad Jon
ANDERSON. Until then, nobody had listenened to such a thing, and today, the American
band continues to suprise and seduce at the same time. Released in 1993, the second opus
"Impending Ascension" created quite a sensation, impressing both the critics and
the audience. Through the years, the music of the brothers Trent & Wayne GARDNER
displayed less originality but gained more efficiency, even getting closer to a certain
Progressive heavy-metal school. As a testimony to a new evolution phase, the seventh opus
"Innocent God" lets apart the classic influences of its predecessor
"Symphony For A Misanthrope," in favour of compositions more concise and less
demonstrative. Could it be
the album of the maturity? Lets also note that after having hired many guest
musicians through time, MAGELLAN is now a real group, as Robert BERRY (GTR, THREE, Jack
FOSTER III...) now joins the duet as a multiinstrumentalist. And the best is yet to
come: probably trying to complete the trilogy of Progressive rock's best labels, after
having signed with Magna Carta and InsideOut, MAGELLAN now joins Musea!
Various Artists/Kalevala - A Finnish Progressive Rock Epic ....import triple CD $35.99

The Finnish magazine Colossus asked thirty (yes, thirty) progressive bands, from all over the world, to illustrate moments of "Kalevala." Kalevala is the Finnish national epic, made of old Finnish ballads and lyrical songs, a complex and diverse cycle of legends which inspired Tolkien as well as the composer Sibelius, among many others. The idea of the project was to use original, "vintage" instruments of the seventies, to get the "old" feeling needed by the story. And, by the way, no programmed drums. The result is astounding: nearly four hours of a gorgeous, splendid progressive rock, neo-classic, symphonic, experimental, heavy-prog, and whatever you like! No doubt that there was great emulation between the bands, as some of them deliver their best performance here! The bands : Haikara, Overhead, Simon Says, Sinkadus, Moongarden, Il Castello di Atalante, Magenta, Submarine Silence, Metaphor, Clearlight, Orchard, Greenwall, Revelation, Scarlet Thread, Mad Crayon, Museo Rosenbach, Leviathan, Malibran, Sofia Baccini, Elegant Simplicity, Qadesh, Cantina Sociale, Grand Stand, Germinale, Aardvark, Thonk, Groovector, Whobodied, Randone and Tempore, Cafeine.
Forgas/Cocktail ....import CD $18.99

Patrick FORGAS' band plays an innovative music in the same vein as SOFT MACHINE or Robert WYATT. The first album "Cocktail" (1977) displays superb compositions, full of invention and melodic research. Gerard PREVOST (ZAO, RAHMANN...) plays strong bass lines, to reinforce a rhythmical section hard as a rock. Clocking at 18 minutes, the superb suite "My Trip" concludes this masterpiece. Today reissued by the Musea label, "Cocktail" now includes no more than thirteen bonus-tracks!
Songs of the Exile/Reasons ....import CD $18.99

It's the fourth album by this dutch band, and "Time re-arranged" and "Time to End" had received critical acclaim. S.O.T.E. goes one step further with "Reasons," a concept album that deals with a lifetime Time seems to be the main theme for S.O.T.E.! Connected with mind's existential and philosophical preoccupations in each age of life. S.O.T.E. is basically a power trio (guitars/basses/drums), with some additional keyboards in the background. But the band's music has become fully personal and hard to categorise. The main initial influence for S.O.T.E. was RUSH, and their music was also compared to QUEENSRYCHE, DREAM THEATER's "Scenes from a Memory," or HOLDSWORTH. It gives a good idea of "Reasons'" atmospheres, still dark and tortured, but the music has become really personal, powerful, diverse and constantly inspired, creating an innovative blend of metal and progressive/symphonic genre.
Yesterdays/Holdfenykert ....import CD $18.99

YESTERDAYS is a present Progressive rock band composed of musicians belonging to the Hungarian minority of western Romania. This is why the vocalist Kinga JANOSI, on top of a few titles in English language, also chose to sing in Magyar. Musically speaking, the atmosphere is quite mellow: this is a refined and colourful opus, bursting with sunshine. Somewhere between atmospheric rock, Latin and jazzy sounds, Canterbury School style, with languorous Mellotron and enchanting flute melodies, "Holdfenykert - Moonlit Garden" presents a refreshing vision of Progressive rock. One may think of the remarkable work of Polish vocalist Anna Maria JOPEK with Pat METHENY ("Upojenie"), or the undervalued "Jumping From Springboards" from the Brazilian band ECLIPSE. Quite often, there's nothing to think about, but just indulge that kind of lull. Initially self-produced in 2006 and announced with a flattering reputation, this debut album is reissued today by the Musea label.
Marboss/Electrotherapies ....import CD $18.99

Nicknamed the "French solitary KRAFTWERK," MARBOSS defines himself as "The manorchestra of keyboards and electronic machines." In this second album named "Electrotherapies," the artist who wrote the official hymn for the arrival of the TGV (The fastest train in the world!) in the Lorraine region, presents his new electronic concept. One can notice here the use of synthetic layers, simple and catchy melodies, rhythms enriched by electro-acoustic sounds, and minimalistic vocals sung or rendered by a vocoder. During more than one hour, MARBOSS invits you to discover his various states of mind: dream, distress, journey, religion, sadness. This new album is a quiky mix of influences that should please the fans of KRAFTWERK, Jean-Michel JARRE, DEPECHE MODE or MOBY.
Greg Sherman/The Road Home ....import CD $18.99

Greg SHERMAN is no other than one of the two brothers who founded GLASS, one of the hidden treasures of American Progressive rock. Parallel to his busy schedule with his band, he offers today his second piano solo album, seven years after "Zutique." On the latter, there was a track named "The Road Home," and that's precisely the title of the present opus! Published in the year 2008 on the Dreaming label, the thirteen compositions can be linked with the works of Keith JARRETT or other great improvisational piano players, but much more melodic and accessible. Apart from a percussionist featured on some tracks, let's notice the guest-appearanbce of a certain Jeff SHERMAN (Acoustic guitar) on "Just To See You Shine." One can also say that every copy sold of this album will donate one Dollar to the National Coalition For The Homeless.
Hannah/A Life In Rock Minor ....import CD $18.99

Born in 2002, HANNAH is a Spanish five piece band, and "A Life In Rock Minor" is their first album. Their Progressive rock music sometimes recalls DREAM THEATER or ECHOLYN, especially for the heavy guitar sound. The musical dynamism is showcased by multiple breaks and rhythm changes. But the band also uses sounds, samples and electronics, to create a diverse and new music, although definitely sophisticated in its essence and structures, with accessible melodies. A good singer, versatile guitars and keyboards, sustained by a powerful rhythm section.
Soma Planet/Bholenath ....import CD $18.99

SOMA PLANET is a Progressive rock band born in the mid-Nineties, in Barcelona, Catalunya. At first very influenced by bands such as KING CRIMSON (Seventies and Eighties), GONG, CAN or EMBRYO, the musicians quickly achieved a personal style. All their efforts and time were dedicated in finding formulas to play music that permitted at the same time breaking with traditional harmonies and structures, following improvisational patterns built slowly in time, starting in understanding music as a game. The first eponymous album has been recorded during summer 2003. "Bholenath" is the second opus of the band, released in 2008 by the Musea label. There's everything you can imagine in it, as far as Seventies are concerned (Except for keyboards): versatile drumming, roaming bass, a mix of acoustic and electric sequences, vocal (A little) and instrumental (A lot) tracks, one minute interludes and 9-10 minutes complex pieces, nice melodies, frantic rhythms and peaceful moods, electronics, a pandemonium of heavy saxophones and whispering flutes. Their musical style, still influenced by GONG, is a complex mix of Progressive rock, experimental music, jazz and ethnic influences (Indian among others) and percussions.
Eddy Grandjean/Eddiologie - Part One ....import CD $18.99

Eddy GRANDJEAN is a young musician from the north-east of France, graduated from the prestigious Music Academy International located in Nancy. Published on the Musea Parallele label, his first album "Eddiologie - Part One" contains six original compositions, six instrumentals between rock, hard-rock and Progressive jazz-rock, mostly centered around the prowess of the seven-strings. But this was not satisfying enough for the artist, who also shines on drums, bass and keyboards, as well as behind the recording desk. But don't fear the so-called "solitary musician syndrome" (Drumbox, soulless programmings, artificial sounds...): let's discover a real teamwork, worth of the best specialists worldwide. Misters Joe SATRIANI et Steve VAI, start worrying a bit!
Qui/Qui ....import CD $18.99

QUI is the brainchild of Japanese guitarist Takashi HAYASHI, who assembled an instrumental jazz-rock fusion band with Progressive rock leanings. The trio included, guitar, bass, drums and some keyboards parts. After having released a first album, "Prelude," in the year 2006, the band completely changed. It's now a five-piece band, including flute, percussions and saxophone on one track. Released in common by the Musea and Poseidon labels, the self-titled album begins gently with quiet and atmospheric passages, not unlike Allan HOLDSWORTH's, and ends up in some kind of free-jazz spirit. But all in all, QUI shows a true personality, and that's difficult to link its music with someone else's.
Orenda/A Tale Of A Tortured Soul ....import CD $18.99

ORENDA was ten years old when their first album was released on the Musea label. That concept-album, "A Tale Of Tortured Soul," is made of nine songs chained like one long piece. That French band's main influence is undoubtely DREAM THEATER. But that's not all, as some moments may recall SYMPHONY X, PAIN OF SALVATION for the dark atmospheres, and SHADOW GALLERY for worked-out vocal harmonies. And above all, there's a strong melodic sense. You'll find here complex and fst soli with quirky interplay between guitar and synthesizers, powerful riffs, and also nice acoustic sequences, lead vocals reminding James LaBRIE. ORENDA has a lot of musical ideas, a real instrumental virtuosity, and its Progressive heavy-metal is full of promises and talent.
Didier Bardin/Le Pouvoir Des Pierres ....import CD $18.99

French keyboard player and composer Didier BARDIN is a Musicology graduate from Paris' famous Sorbonne University. The conception of his project "Le Pouvoir Des Pierres" originates from a question: is it possible to create a soothing and beneficial music, while varied and interesting? One first work concerned the discoveries of Professor Lee BARTEL, of Toronto University. His searches reveal the direct effect of certain frequencies on the production of alpha, beta and delta cerebral waves. They also show the action of certain rhythms on the respiratory and cardiac cycle. The symbolism of certain minerals, as well as their vibratory properties, appearead as an appropriate concept, while proposing a readability which is largely accessible to the listener. The five years of work that this project took enabled to overlap closely these different aspects, the creation of specific tonal sonic textures supposing a melodic and harmonic writing of the "tension/expansion" type. Nevertheless, the artist had to propose a pleasant and harmonious music, readily accessible, leaving the listener with the liberty to choose his own listening and attention level.
Versus X/Primordial Ocean ....import CD $18.99

VERSUS X could become one of the greatest modern Progressive rock bands and the one with the most personality. Those four German musicians (Guitar-vocals, keyboards, bass & drums) perform an elaborate and suggestive music that goes through a lot of effort to create different ambiences. The lyrics (Sung in perfect English by a top vocalist) show an ambition that is only matched by the complex and hyper-refined instrumentation. If it is always possible to relate this band to some Seventies references (Some atmosphere and the singers' voice could evoke ELOY), this mainly translates in their feelings, not so much of the formal aspect of their work. So, the result is some decisively original tracks with a quite unique sound. "Primordial Ocean" showcases four tracks in the 15-20 minutes area, plus one elegant piano interlude. ARNE SCHAEFER's lyrics still combine Science, Philosophy and metaphysical questions. The music stills reveals complex, intricated piano or (Often vintage) keyboards, as well as fine guitar interplays.
Motis/Live Crescendo ....import CD $18.99

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentist, Emmanuel TISSOT is at the origins of MOTIS, an interesting French band from the Franche-Comte region. Its musical influences are to be found in his own curriculum vitae: Progressive rock with OCEANE or MUSICAL BOX, independent rock with LES COPRINS, jazz with MADJAROCKA and LE RAVING'S CLUB BIG BAND, French chanson with LES WAGONS DE QUEUE. "Live Crescendo" is a sequel to MOTIS' performance at the Festival Crescendo, held at Saint-Palais-Sur-Mer, August 18 2007.
Quikion/Kaprico ....import CD $18.99

QUIKION is a current Japanese band worth discovering! Obviously as influenced by the folk-rock tones of PENTANGLE as by the French minimalist school represented by Pascal COMELADE or KLIMPEREI, these three musicians use accordeon, percussions or any other toy that would happen to come between their hands over and over again. It is an endless list. They have added an element of their own however: Japanese-sung vocals! The latter is carried out by the charming Yukiko TOTOKI.
Jose Luis Fernandez Ledesma Q./Hibridos ....import CD $18.99

NIRGAL VALLIS once was among the most outstanding bands in Mexican Progressive rock, even though it only released one official album ("Y Murio la Tarde") in 1994, reisssued on the Musea label. Apart from some unreleased songs lost somewhere, die-hard fans won't have the chance to discover tons of new stuff. Jose Luis Fernandez LEDESMA Q., leader of the band, has since begun a solo career. His career is a rather unusual one, since you can find some very symphonic works (Like the first album, "Motivos Para Perderse", released by Musea in 1996), as well as some very experimental stuff. "Designios" (2003) belongs to the first category. This album is a tribute to NIRGAL VALLIS: the track "Abismos" has been wonderfully revisited, while the long "Los Designios De Geminis" suite has finally been made alive for the first time, off the score it seemed to be laid on forever.
Jorge Campos/Machi ....import CD $18.99
Jorge Campos/La Ausencia De Lo Sagrado ....import CD $18.99

Chilean bass player Jorge CAMPOS has been considered as one of the best bass players in Latin America and built up a reputation for himself as a master in his instrument. He built his career in the resistance during the dictatorship, being a composer and musician for bands such as SANTIAGO DEL NUEVO EXTREMO, EL CONGRESO and FULANO. After a first solo album ("La Magia Necesaria", 1993), he recorded "Machi" in the year 2000. Today reissued by the labels Musea and Luna Negra, this bass solo album combines ethnic fusion and experimental rock, played on a great variety of basses. The manufacturer Warwick made one especially for Jorge CAMPOS, called the "Machi Bass", a tribute to the woman spiritual healers in the Mapuche tribe. Also reissued by the labels Musea and Luna Negra, "La Ausencia De Lo Sagrado" (2003) presents a combination of experimental fusion and songs. For those who are fond of Percy JONES (BRAND X) or Jaco PASTORIUS (WEATHER REPORT), there's a lot to enjoy here!
Cabezas de Cera/Hecho En Mexico ....import CD $18.99

CABEZAS DE CERA, a current Mexican trio, presents an exciting mixture of Progressive Rock. Mixing together influences from jazz-rock, Rock In Opposition and world music. The musicians themselves cite several varied sources including KING CRIMSON, Dave MATTHEWS BAND, Miles DAVIS, John COLTRANCE and Pat METHENY. The group proposes to give its audience a truly personal sound which cannot be confused with that of any other group.
IZZ/Live At NEARFest ....import CD $18.99

Now fans will have the opportunity to get a taste of what those who have seen them play live already know - that an IZZ performance is truly a memorable and emotional experience. "Our NEARfest performance really captured what IZZ is all about for me. Something magical happens when the seven of us perform on stage together and I am excited that now everyone will be able to get a sense of that magic," notes drummer Greg DiMiceli.
Christian Brendel & Zomb/Le Peuple Des Songes ....import CD $18.99

No doubt about it: there is anger in this music, a real rage to live and express straightforwardly strong and raw emotions! Stemming from LA ZOMBIE ET SES BISONS, here is the third effort of this outfit, in collaboration with the Musea label: ZOMB "Le Peuple Des Songes." This brilliant opus offers the initiatory journey that pure souls will undertake by choosing a good armchair. It will actually be appropriate to let oneself go, to get lost there, take the opportunity to feel the blow of time pass by and get immersed within the voyage exhilaration. This time, this blow is guided by a voice, that of comedian Christian BRENDEL who takes us away to the heart of his own burning and irradiating vision. This universe richness creates the fusion of colours, landscapes and climates. This is actual Progressive rock with roots in the inheritance of forerunner bands such as KING CRIMSON, GONG, MAGMA or Frank ZAPPA.
Discordia/Utopia Perfection ....import CD $18.99

The first album by Discordia titled "Utopia Perfection" was completed in 2007. It shows off the fresh and modern approach of the band while avoiding the usual cliches of modern progressive: extreme technicality and pompousness. Instead the album shows off beautiful, ambitious, bombastic and fresh music with rock thrown into the mix.
Mizukagami/Yugake ....import CD $18.99

MIZUKAGAMI is the name of a current band of Tokyo, created by former PEDIMENT musicians. They manage to combine PAGEANT's delicacy and the tension-filled energy of PROVIDENCE. Influenced by the great Seventies masters (KING CRIMSON, GENESIS, CAMEL...), they perform beautiful flute parts, enchant us with a refined feminine voice (Vocals in Japanese), show vintage keyboards sounds, guitar arpeggios... All of this, and even a lot more, is subservient to some deliciously melancholic, and even at times desperate ambiences. Alternating sweet moments and angry parts, the six tracks included on their eponymous album (2003) prove to be highly symphonic. Let's also notice the discreet local traditional music influences. At the end of the day, we can only acknowledge that this album is worth of the best Eighties Japanese Progressive rock works.
Ain Soph/Marine Menagerie ....import CD $18.99
Ain Soph/Five Evolved From Nine ....import CD $18.99

Famous for the quality of its musicians and the refinement of its music, the Progressive rock Japanese scene provided as prestigious representatives as GERARD (symphonic side), RUINS (Zeuhl side) or KENSO (jazz-rock fusion side). As far as the so-called Canterbury school is concerned, the local reference is AIN SOPH. This major instrumental quartet produced some of the best gems in the genre, which is however significantly dominated by Anglo-Saxon outfits. This unique combo plays a music that combines extreme delicacy with a great technical perfection, the whole thing being illuminated by an outstanding melodic and harmonic richness. Now a piece of history, the legendary first album " A Story of Mysterious Forest" was first released in 1980. "Marine Menagerie" (1992) is re-issued by the Musea and Poseidon labels as a co-venture, and it clearly evokes the best albums of CAMEL ("Mirage" or "Music Inspired By The Snow Goose" period). Some brilliant guitar solos are to be heard, as expected, solos whose level is comparable with those of Andy LATIMER. Released next, "Five or Nine - Five Evolved from Nine" (1993) diverges rather significantly from its major influence, while broadening the spectrum towards musics sounding like those of HATFIELD AND THE NORTH or KENSO. Here are two gems of instrumental jazz-rock fusion that you should not miss whatsoever!
Ain Soph/Studio Live Tracks '80s And '05 ....import CD $18.99

Famous for the quality of its musicians and the refinement of its music, the Japanese Progressive rock scene provided such prestigious representatives as GERARD (For the symphonic side), RUINS (For the Zeuhl side) or KENSO (For the jazz-rock fusion side). This album is a "Live in the studio" recording, with tracks recorded between 1985 and 1988, without mentioning 2005 for a brand new tune called "Triple Sequence". There are new versions of "Flight" and "Oddessa", studio versions of compositions appearing on "Hat And Field" and some of the best tracks ever written by this talented band.
Aisles/The Yearning ....import CD $18.99

AISLES is the name of a Chilean Progressive rock band, formed in 2001 in Santiago. Faithful to the precepts of the South-American school, the three brothers VERGARA and their two partners (both keyboards players!) develop an extremely symphonic, refined and lyrical music. The marking influences of GENESIS or YES are present, and more particularly that of CAMEL and MARILLION. Released jointly by the labels Musea and Mylodon Records, the first album "The Yearning" (2005) includes seven tracks, among which a suite lasting 16 minutes and composed of three parts. The atmospheres become quite melancolic, preferring with cleverness pure emotion rather than the technical performance. As for the singing, it is in perfect English and explores in depth the human soul. A true discovery, that for sure will be able to seduce most Progressive rock lovers.
Amarok/Retrospectiva ....import CD $18.99

"Retrospectiva" gathers the best tracks ever recorded by AMAROK on a CD, the summary of twelve years of recording career with sixteen songs and nearly 80 minutes of music. Let's also note some alternative versions, such as the live version of "Donde Estas Mi Amor - Conclusion," performed in 2005 at the Portuguese Gouveia Art Rock Festival.
Anekdoten/A Time Of Day ....import CD $18.99

Some four years after the previous album, here is finally ANEKDOTEN's fifth opus. It was worth waiting for! "A Time Of Day" seems to come back to the sound, energy and ambition of the beginnings, offering as an overture a double swig of Mellotron plus a few well inspired schizoid riffs. However, those who prefer up-to-date and mainstream sounds are not forgotten either. The presence of a flautist, guest on the second track "30 Pieces," bringing about a welcome wind of freshness, should also be noted.
Ange/? ....import CD $21.99

ANGE is, no doubt about it, the most popular of the French Progressive rock bands. Its music is based on Christian DECAMPS's unmistakable and melodramatic voice, his brother Francis's powerful organ sounds as well as on the development of energetic and intense medieval lines. The line-up invented its own style, both epic and delirious, and that blends madness, emotions and exacerbated feelings. '?' is a brand new album from this mighty French progressive rock group!

With frontman and composer Christian DECAMPS, ANGE has known an incredibly intense career, with a strong following cult among faithful fans. "Culinaire Lingus," released in 2001, mixes ANGE's tradition with more modern sounds and influences (ambient, electro, metal...). It has been described by many critics by the best recent album by the band, and it is true that there's a special feeling about it, an enthusiasm of the musicians in the writing and the playing process. Christian's vocals are just brilliant, theatrical, humorous and sensitive like in the good old days, and the young musicians around him are talented and inspired.

Ange/Zenith An II ....import double CD $24.99

The most famous French Progressive band of the 70's reformed in the late 80's with their historic leader Christian DECAMPS and some young musicians. If we had to remember only one date in the recent history of ANGE, it would definitely be October 13th 2002. During this beautiful autumn evening, Christian DECAMPS and his happy band took one of the most prestigious French concert halls by storm: the Zenith in Paris. This particular concert was meant to celebrate thirty years of a musical career that had started in 1972 with the album "Caricatures." And it was an utter success! "Zenith An II" bears witness to a unique event, where the original members of the different line-ups (Daniel HAAS, Guenole BIGER, Claude DEMET, Serge CUENOT...) played together with the 'rookies' such as Tristan DECAMPS, Thierry SIDHOUM, Herve ROUYER, Hassan HAJDI & Caroline CROZAT, as well as with some famous guests like Francis LALANNE, Norbert KRIEF (TRUST) and the percussionist of TRYO. On a double CD, 22 tracks and almost two and a half hours of show, the musicians go over most of their production and prove that Ange remains the essential French band of the last thirty years.
Apple Pie/Crossroad ....import CD $18.99

The missing link between SPOCK'S BEARD and DREAM THEATER? The first named discovered by the second? The common tour of the year 2000? Neal MORSE accompanied by Mike PORTNOY? Yes, but what if there's something more surprising? APPLE PIE tries to mix the qualities of two of the most important current American Progressive rock bands, in an album aptly titled "Crossroad." And as the gamble wasn't huge enough, this brand new group comes from... Russia!!! Did someone remember Cold War? Vartan MIKHITARIAN seems to be almost as gifted as the multi-talented Neal MORSE: a very good voice (Excellent English accent indeed !), incredible skills with almost all instruments (Guitars especially) that happen to be in his hands, a great stylistic range and an imaginative way of composing. And his colleagues are quite in the same level. Here we are, with an incredible first album, jointly published by the Musea and Mals labels, polished with a sound and production a good American band would have been proud of. And if some people think this is a mere clone, they just have to skip the first tracks, the more under influence, to discover the real personality of the slavic trio. APPLE PIE reveals itself as good as playing funk-soul music with reeds than performing sophisticated pop songs, Progressive rock of heavy-metal. Without forgetting a slight Emersonian touch given by the keyboards parts of bass player Aleksey BILDIN, also known as a saxophonist in LITTLE TRAGEDIES.
Ars Nova/Chrysalis - Force For The Fourth ....import CD $18.99

Well known since more than a decade among the prog listeners, this Japanese progressive band has released numerous albums, always driven by composer and keyboardist (virtuoso!) Keiko Kumagai. "Chrysalis" offers six pieces taken from their albums, recorded live in studiowithout audience- with a guitarist added to the rhythm section. These six pieces are, in a way, re-created here with much more power and dynamism: fierce guitar chords, lively and bombastic keyboards, a deep bass sound, and 'metal' drumming: brilliant!
Atlantide/Atlantide ....import CD $18.99

In the mid-Seventies, ATLANTIDE was the living proof that France too had was able to bear Progressive rock all-star bands! Around producer Jean-Pierre MASSIERA, the band was made of guitarist Bernard TORELLI (VISITORS), singer Patrick ATTALI (VISITORS), and drummer Jean-Marc MOUNTAIN (ORION). Their only album (1976) has also showed that, way beyond the all-star aspect, ATLANTIDE is very good in its kind, and even one of a kind! Their music deals with intricate studied themes, sometimes as in YES (Just listen to the first 10 minutes of the CD, and "Heart Of The Sunrise" will come to your mind), as well as KING CRIMSON and VANILLA FUDGE. The instrumentation is enriched by some uses of mellotron and of sitar. The guitar's acrobatic feats are worth Steve HOWE's best times, and Robert FRIPP's sharp electric solos. The rerelease by Musea includes four bonus tracks from the "Human Egg" album, recorded two years later with a similar line-up.
Atoll/L'Ocean ....import CD $18.99

"L'Ocean," the last ATOLL studio album, is now reissued by the Musea label, in a clearly revamped edition. The CD benefits from re-recorded or never-heard-before parts, and the bonus-tracks are made of two live songs, as well as the track "Try Not To Worry", composed in 1983 by a short-lived incarnation. The splendid cover-art is obviously inspired by the one illustrating the famous "Tales From Topographic Oceans," painted by Roger DEAN for YES. Musically speaking, this sequel shows how good the band adapted the complexity of its writing to the sound of the Eighties.
Eric Baron & D-Zakord/De Futura (Hiroshima) ....import CD $18.99

Erik Baron is a bass player and leader of the band from Bordeaux, DesAccordes. This third album, after "Cordeyades" and "InC," is revisiting Jannick TOPs Magnum Opus "De futura Hiroshima," initially released on Magma's album "Udu Wudu." Six bass players, six guitar players plus one drummer re-invent this classic from "Zeuhl" music, with an exceptional intensity, but also with a real precision in the dialogues between basses and guitars. Recorded by Minimum Vital's Thierry Payssan.A great album for all Zeuhl fans.
Alain Blesing/Songs from the Beginning ....import CD $18.99

Alain BLESING is a French guitar player, known for having been part of the Progressive rock band ESKATON, considered as one of the most gifted disciples of MAGMA. From the late Seventies, he extends his capacities in studiying musicology, then in discovering jazz music. With the Turkish female singer Senem DIYICI, he later got involved in the universe of world-music. Now firmly established on the French scene, Alain BLESING returns to his roots and publishes an album made of covers, recorded in the club Le Triton. Published on the Musea label, "Songs From The Beginning" presents legendary songs such as "Slightly All The Time" (SOFT MACHINE), "Beautiful As The Moon" (HENRY COW), "California" (LED ZEPPELIN), "Mumps" (HATFIELD AND THE NORTH), "1983" (Jimi HENDRIX), "Behind Blue Eyes" (THE WHO) and "Fracture" (KING CRIMSON). His notoriety helped attracting big names like John GREAVES or Hugh HOPPER, respectively taking the singing and bass duties here. At the end, you get an opus both masterfully performed and intimately personal, revisiting all of Alain BLESING's musical aspects.
Jean Pascal Boffo/La Boite a Musique ....import CD $18.99

It's the ninth solo album by this French guitarist, different from its predecessors as usual. His first album "Jeux de nains" was the first to be released by the Musea label in 1985. "JPB" is the guitarist from the band ALIFAIR, and also a renowned sound engineer. Every new album he composes and plays is a complete renewal, and he seems to have played every possible style from jazz to rock and symphonic music, in a personal way. "La boite a musique" is a collection of twelve instrumental pieces for acoustic guitar. It's delicate, refined, nostalgic, full of sensibility and emotion, highly suggestive: just beautiful.
Cage/1987-1994 ....import CD $18.99

CAGE is the name of an Italian Progressive rock band, led by keyboards player Alessandro BUGLIANI and created in the middle of the Eighties. And whereas "1987-1994", published in the year 2005 by the Musea label, is made up of historical recordings (As its name mentions it), it would be too bad to consider this CD just as an archive collection. This is a brand new album, both coherent and carefully produced. The six pieces alternate vocal and instrumental parts, and are most often structured around subtle piano notes. This is dynamic and lively Progressive rock that's inspired by the Masters of the Seventies, while remaining very personal and inventive. The five musicians have perfectly assimilated the lessons of ELP, GENESIS, IQ, GENTLE GIANT and so on, whilst opting for a very modern approach, as far as the sound and the composition work is concerned. The emotional range is quite wide, from THE FLOWER KINGS' luminous guitar soli to ambiences not unlike a certain VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR. Let's also notice the excellent twenty-minute suite "The Feebleminded Man", leading the listener through melodic sequences, great melodic inventivity and feverish electric cvalacades. CAGE might well be the best Italian band of their generation together with FINISTERRE. So this is a worthy discovery!
Cast/Mosaique ....import double CD $27.99

It seems so difficult to Alfonso VIDALES and his fellowmen to restrain their creativity today that they have started to produce double studio albums! The new opus "Mosaique" doesn't change that rule as it presents sixteen new or older tracks, all of which were previously unreleased. This symphonic and adventurous music has gone beyond the mere neo Progressive rock for a long time now, as it integrated new instruments such as saxophone, cello or flute. The warmth of Spanish language contributes in giving, if necessary, a unique touch to this enchanting music.
Cast/Com.Union ....import CD $18.99

This Mexican band led by Alfonso Vidales (keyboards) and Dino brassea (flute and vocals) seems to have no musical boundaries. "Com.union" is still in a progressive vein, sophisticated, often symphonic, not unlike GENESIS or ELP, but this time there is a sort of Canterbury and jazzy mood here and there, with a lot of wind instruments (sax, clarinet, trumpet...), and with a lot of brilliant acoustic moments. Played with a real technical skill, full of positive vibrations, lively and colourful, Cast's music has become eclectic and personal.
Cos/Pasiones ....import CD $18.99

COS was certainly one of the best Belgian rock bands of the seventies/early eighties. Musea re-released 'Poataeolian Train Robbery' (1974) and 'Viva Boma' (1976) in the past decade, and is proud to offer a re-release of the band's fourth album, 'Pasiones,' initially released in 1983. It's a mini-opera, based on the story of three soldiers during the Spanish civil war. The vocals are a mix of Spanish, French, English, German, and Dutch. The music is a fine fusion of jazz, classic, rock and folk music, with top notch instrumental work all around. The band use complex arrangements, lyric female vocals, subtle instrumental combinations, in a vein near ZAO, MAGMA,but with a great sense of humour and originality, and a personal style. This re-release includes more than 35 minutes of bonus music, including a concert in Toulouse (France) in 1984, a rehearsal from 1981, plus 'Hotel Atlantic' and 'Tres Joli,' from the maxi-LP released in 1984. A great album.
Enneade/Remembrance ....import CD $18.99

This young outfit from Lyon's first album is definitely in the quality Progressive heavy-metal vein, actually. "Remembrance"'s four long pieces range from 10 to 18 minutes. Rumbling bass, powerful drums, intense riffs: the fans of DREAM THEATER, who happened to discover ENNEADE during a memorable after-show, will be delighted! But the band shouldn't be reduced to this sole influence, mostly pregnant on the beautiful opening suite "King Of Silver": its musicians like acoustic, peaceful and melodious moments, as well as rises in tension that evolve gradually to an anxious climax that evokes the current KING CRIMSON. The entwined guitar parts frequently remind of those heard in the track "The ConstruKction Of Light", except the fact that the second axe is replaced by keyboards sounds. ENNEADE's very particular harmonies sometimes take it close to OPETH or ANATHEMA. Perfectly performed and produced, this is undoubtedly one of the best French albums of the year. Hats off to you, guys!
Eye to Eye/One In Every Crowd ....import CD $18.99

EYE TO EYE is the name of this French Progressive rock band, created in 2003 by former members of ADN, soon joined by other musicians. Published three years later on the Musea label, the first opus "One In Every Crowd" features an intense and contrasted symphonic music, influenced by MARILLION, PINK FLOYD, and many others. Let's mention a cover of AYREON's "Back On Planet Earth" for instance. It's often near the neo Progressive trend of the Eighties, with also heavy-metal hints. The brilliant guitar playing of Amirouche ALI BENALI is clearly reminiscent of the works of David GILMOUR and Steve ROTHERY, both intense and lyrical. With complex compositions, two of them are 16 minutes long.
For Absent Friends/Square One ....import CD $18.99

This experienced and talented dutch band has released several albums since 1990, offering a dynamic neo-progressive rock in the same vein as Rush, Marillion, with some hints of Genesis' eighties albums. "Square One" certainly is one of their best albums so far, with nine progressive songs, nice melodies enhanced by Hans Van Lint's expressive vocals. It's a powerful music, with strong guitar riffs, suggestive keyboards, worked out, well played and produced. Let's mention Christian Decamps' vocal contribution in the final song, "Billy", initially written and played by famous french band ANGE.
Jack Foster III/RaptorGnosis ....import CD $18.99

Jack Foster's debut album, 'Jazzraptor,' had received unanimous critical acclaim in 2004, revealing an exceptional and absolutely eclectic composer, who also was an excellent guitar player and singer. RapterGnosis, his second album, goes one step further in the same musical direction, with more mature and cohesive compositions: here is, doubtlessly, one of the albums of the year, if not the first one! Jack Foster is still helped by Robert BERRY and Magellan's leader, Trent GARDNER. If you missed 'Jazzraptor,' Jack Foster's style is a unique mix of jazz, progressive rock (not unlike ECHOLYN or MAGELLAN), rock, pop, flawlessly meld to enhance incredible melodies. Add Foster's cool and fresh vocals different from the usual prog' standard voice: 'Raptergnosis' is a masterpiece!
Eloy Fritsch/Past And Future Sounds (1996-2006) ....import CD $18.99

Eloy FRITSCH performs an elegant electronic music that evolves between VANGELIS' ambient & impressionist electronic, and the synthesised Progressive rock of masters such as Rick WAKEMAN or Patrick MORAZ. Thanks to his panoply of keyboards and computers, Eloy FRITSCH has been able to free his imagination. He leads us in a very relaxing trip, in the fantastic world of mythology. "Past And Future Sounds 1996-2006" is the first best-of of Eloy FRITSCH. One can find twelve of the greatest tracks from his discography, plus four new titles recorded especially for the occasion.
The Fusion Project/Code Name: Fusion Project ....import CD $18.99

There are names that say it all! THE FUSION PROJECT has been created by French keyboards player Stephane DERIAU-REINE (LIGHT OF THE WORLD, Ricky LAWSON...), with the help of famous drummer Mel GAYNOR (Tina TURNER, SIMPLE MINDS, Elton JOHN, Gary MOORE...) and bass player Jan-Olof STRANDBERG (Often regarded by the specialised press as Finland's premier bass player). Their first album "Code Name: Fusion Project" gathers fourteen pieces (mainly instrumental) mixing jazz-rock fusion and Progressive rock music with an incredible know-how and musical craftmanship. Sophisticated and melodious, this is a very diverse music, from melancholic ballads with harmonica to frantic semi-improvised musical rides, including funky or heavy sequences... These guys can play everything, but they never forget what a melody is! Several guests, guitarist Jean FONTANILLE among others, came to play on what has to be considered as the jazz-fusion album of the year. Just fantastic!
Glass/Live At Progman Cometh ....import CD $18.99

The CD is being released to coincide with the current Glass European Tour commencing October 15th, 2007, and is comprised of tracks recorded at the first and second Progman Cometh Concerts in 2002 and 2003. There is also an extra "bonus" track taken from their BajaProg 2002 concert appearance. The Progman Cometh concerts are famous for being the largest gatherings of musicians from the Canterbury "school" of progressive music to ever take place in the United States. Several of the Canterbury legends make guest appearances with Glass onstage. They include ex-Soft Machine member the late saxophonist Elton Dean on three tracks, ex-Soft Machine and Soft Machine Legacy bassist Hugh Hopper as well as ex-Caravan/ Hatfield and The North bassist/vocalist Richard Sinclair on one track each. The new CD contains over 65 minutes of music and six songs that have never appeared on previous Glass albums.

Yngve Guddal and Roger T.Matte are two norwegian keyboard virtuosos who create a musical event three years ago: they rearranged GENESIS classics for two grand pianos. Same formula for this 'vol.2,' with a recording from 2002-3 on two Steinway grand pianos. Paul Whitehead, who realized the most famous Genesis cover paintings through the years, created 'Escape from New-York' for this release. Its a fantastic way to re-discover masterpieces like 'Me and Sarah Jane,' 'The Battle of Epping Forest,' 'The Cinema Show,' 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway,' 'Blood on the Rooftops,' 'Seven Stones' and 'Eleventh Earl of Mar.' It's a real re-creation for two pianos, with real dialogues between both players, complex and worked out, perfectly composed and played: exceptional! Complex arrangements, an excellent production.
Hal & Ring/Alchemy ....import CD $18.99

HAL & RING were two Japanese bands born in the mid-seventies, and this project is a combination of musicians from both bands, who play and record their songs, thirty years after! Two members of HAL created later SHINGETSU, some played in Asturias, East Wind Pot. So they're all accomplished musicians, and Musea and Poseidon re-released 'The empire of necromancers,' Ring's album, some months ago. 'Alchemy' is a collection of seven instrumental tracks that offer an excellent mix of golden progressive music influenced by Yes, E.L.P., Camel, Pink Floyd, and of seventies jazz-rock. Nice melodies, beautiful guitar solis, two keyboard players: a sophisticated and intense music, and a real human 'alchemy' are to be found here.
Ice/The Saga ....import CD $18.99

Marillion, avec des moments plus proches de Pink Floyd ou Genesis ICE was founded some years ago by former members of the dutch band MARYSON, and it's their first album. This concept album tells a story of a group of people confronted with an ice period on their planet. This ten mid-long songs (4 to 8 minutes) reveal talented and experienced musicians; their music is a mix of neo-progressive and symphonic stuff, with influences from Genesis (the 'post Gabriel' era), Camel, Pink Floyd for the keyboards, but also Marillion or Pallas' "The Sentinel." Its an excellent, melodious work, powerful and refined in the same time, with strong keyboard and guitar work.
IX/Ora Pro Nobis ....import CD $18.99

This is the first album of a new band from Venezuela, led by Giuglio Cesare Della Noce, TEMPANO's talented keyboardist. Several musicians of TEMPANO play on this album, composed by Giuglio. 'Ora pro nobis' is absolutely surprising from the first to the last minute! It's a brilliant musical fusion that includes elements from electronic, symphonic, classical, contemporary music, with also some jazz and folk elements. These ten pieces are completely different and diverse, sometimes structured with hypnotic rhythms, sometimes including sound effects, sometimes melodious and simple. Trumpet, trombone, harmonica, snare, spanish guitar, male and female vocals, are present here, for a musical journey you'll never forget.

When one of the best present Progressive jazz-rock bands announces the release of their first live album, something exceptional can be expected. This is just not enough with KBB! Simply perfect, "Live 2004" is a small gem of accuracy, sophistication and energy. Captured live at the Silver Elephant club of Tokyo, this little masterpiece is released by the Musea and Poseidon labels as a joint venture. Two tracks were taken from the first album "Lost And Found" (among which the phenomenal "Hatenaki Shoudou"), four other ones are from "Four Corner's Sky" and there's an unreleased track entitled "Inner Flames". Moreover, the sound recording is excellent and all in all, this is a milestone album!
KBB/Proof Of Concept ....import CD $18.99

Since the early seventies this Japanese band has received critical and public acclaim, and its members became favourite "guests" on many progressive albums, especially violin virtuoso Akihisa Tsuboy and brilliant bass player Dani. Like the preceding albums, and maybe in a more accomplished way, KBB mixes KING CRIMSON and OUTER LIMITS' dark atmospheres and power with melodious and lyrical violin parts a la MAHAVISHNU, PONTY or UK - not forgetting Eastern Europe or classical influences like VIVALDI. Their progressive jazz-rock is constantly inspired, brilliant, well structured and precise. "Proof of Concept" proves they have become one of the best Japanese bands today.
Kvasar/A Giant's Lullaby ....import CD $18.99

KVASAR is a norwegian progressive Rock band consisting of the three members : Andre Jensen, Kim A.Lieberknecht and Ronny Borge (Johansen). The group was founded late in '97, and in 2000 they released their first self-titled album with Musea. This excellent trio (keyboards and drums) is helped by several musicians, on sax, flute, female vocals, bass, guitars. 'A Giant's Lullaby' is a very eclectic and personal progressive rock, with a lot of jazzy moods and rythms. It will remind you of Pink Floyd, the early King Crimson splendid mellotron parts, and more modern bands like Anglagard or Finisterre. Mixing symphonic greatness with jazzy sequences, KVASAR offers a beautiful and surprising album.
Lady Lake/SuperCleanDreamMachine ....import CD $18.99

LADY LAKE is a Dutch band formed at the beginning of the Seventies, and whose name was inspired by the title of an album by GNIDROLOG. Generally speaking, the whole Canterbury school seems to be the source of inspiration for the band, CAMEL and CARAVAN coming first. Its sole album "No Pictures" had already been re-issued in 1997 on the Musiphyle label. On this occasion, LADY LAKE had reformed in order to record the bonus tracks included on the CD. And some eight years later, the Musea label eventually releases the second album of the trio: "SuperCleanDreamMachine" (2005). With an excellent clear and deep sound, these eight new compositions invite us to a delightful moment of vintage Progressive rock. One may think of the glorious compatriots of FOCUS, but also CAMEL and GENTLE GIANT at times. LADY LAKE makes itself different from most of the bands of this genre as they manage to combine a surprising melodic sophistication and a certain power, owing to a skilful blend of acoustic and electric sequences. "SuperCleanDreamMachine" is full of energy, full of refined and evocative melodies, unveiling true poetical atmospheres. LADY LAKEs music is certainly the best that can be heard in this vein!
Lady Lake/Unearthed ....import CD $18.99

The first album of this seventies dutch band, "No Pictures," was re-released by Muséa some years ago, which led to a re-formation and a second excellent album, "Supercleandreammachine," last year. "Unearthed" is a collection of songs written between 1975 and 1998 (mostly the 1979-81 period), recorded in 'live' conditions, and for the essential part of it should have been the second album by the band. It's a real pleasure to find again Lady Lake's dynamic progressive rock, in a vein near CAMEL, FOCUS, CARAVAN. A really personal music, with lively guitars and worked out keyboards.
Little Tragedies/Chinese Songs - Part 1 ....import CD $18.99

Set on a tremendous pace, without losing its natural qualities, LITTLE TRAGEDIES now publishes its fourth album in only three years. "Chinese Songs - Part One (2007) offers seven tracks composed by the brillant Gennady ILLIN, illustrated by Chinese poems written during the Middle-Ages (Translated in Russian). What else to say, apart from Splendid?
Little Tragedies/Chinese Songs - Part Two ....import CD $18.99

Russian band with a variable number of musicians, LITTLE TRAGEDIES was born from the will of composer and musician Gennadi ILLIN to experiment new musical expression forms. More particularly, his art could be described as an hybrid mixture of Seventies-like Progressive rock, fusion jazz-rock and contemporary classical musics. The whole thing played through vintage keyboards reminding of the seventies, but especially with an obvious Slavonic personality. Apart from EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER and the classical composers, one could think of PINK FLOYD, GENESIS ou FOCUS, with the characteristic sound of the Russian bands.
Little Tragedies/The Sixth Sense ....import CD $18.99

The third album by this Russian band, "Return" was released by Musea in 2005. It offered a gorgeous neo-classic progressive rock ala ELP, with bombastic keyboards. "The Sixth Sense" reveals a great improvement, and an eclectic inspiration: the music recalls E.L.P, but also Genesis, Pink Floyd, Camel and Focus. It's a subtle mix of neo-classical music, rock, jazz, with some hints of metal on guitar solis. The composer and keyboardist G.Ilyin uses seventies keyboards, and offers nice and lively piano parts. Russian singing is to notice, but the music is mainly instrumental, played with a real technical skill and well produced. An excellent album.
Lost World/Awakening Of The Elements ....import CD $18.99

LOST WORLD is a musical trio, and its musicians come from RUSSIA. They created the band ten years ago, as they were students in the musical conservatory of Moscow, and already released an album in 2001. The three of them are virtuosos, Vassily Soloviev on flute and percussion, the composer A.Didorenko on guitars and violins, A.Akimov on keyboards, percussion and programming. These twelve instrumental pieces reveal a very high musical level, a very dynamic and lively music, with incredible violin parts, frantic but not heavy rythms, suggestive melodies. Due to these elements it may recall here or there UK or KANSAS, but this music is absolutely personal, influenced by classical composers and progressive music.
Mind Furniture/Hoop of Flame ....import CD $18.99

This American band, with its second album, "plays thoughtful rock with a furnished feel" --so they say. "Hoop of Flame" is made of two long musical suites (23 and 29 minutes). MIND FURNITURE's musical identity is personal, even if it recalls seventies bands like KANSAS, JETHRO TULL, RUSH, STYX and neo-progressive music, especially MARILLION for the lyrical guitar solis. It's well structured (five parts for each suite), very diverse in the inspiration, with elaborate arrangements that keep very well the balance between keyboards and guitars. It combines philosophical and metaphysical lyrics with a dynamic feeling and positive vibrations. Let's mention nice vocal parts, sometimes near IAN ANDERSON, and beautiful, intense solis. Ambitious, and successful.

The drummer percussionist from Strasbourg Pierre MOERLEN could, during an especially prolific career filled with prestigious collaborations, impose his very particular percussive style, and create a reference in the style of Progressive jazz-rock. And this is in this musical style that Pierre MOERLEN'S GONG take us: proudly assuming his part of the great inheritance left by Daevid ALLEN and company, his interpretation is less focused on the psychedelic or space-rock. "Full Circle - Live 1988" is nevertheless and excellent witness of a German tour: a truly indispensable album! As the Progressive rock world has been grieved to hear the loss of Pierre MOERLEN (GONG, Mike OLDFIELD, BRAND X...), the legendary French drummer comes back today with a new album! "Pentanine" was recorded in Moscow in 2002 and is eventually released three years later by the Musea label. On that occasion, the new embodiment of the mythical band Pierre MOERLEN'S GONG was composed of local skilful musicians on electric guitar, bass and keyboards. Thirteen instrumental pieces full of groove, power and sophistication are to be heard, some more hypnotic or peaceful moments being also present in a very melodic jazz-rock fusion style. The splendour of Pierre MOERLEN's playing whatever instrument between drums, percussions, xylophone and vibraphone is very sensible. A posthumous testimony of a definitely exceptional musician!

Yes fans will recognize the name of Tim Morse as the author of the book 'Yesstories' featuring in depth interviews with all members of the band past and present. His obvious love of Yes can be found in his debut CD as well. "Transformation" is a masterpiece of Progressive rock, combining the musical experimentations of the Seventies with modern production techniques and virtuoso performances. This album was written and recorded by keyboardist Tim MORSE and producer-multi-instrumentalist Mark DEAN over a period of two years without regard to budgets or deadlines. The only requirement for the two musicians was to paint the musical pictures they heard in their heads. The result features layers of keyboards textures, soaring guitar lines, intricate drum performances and passionate vocals. The musical styles jump from classical to hard-rock to jazz-rock fusion, yet these disparate elements are woven seamlessly together. This is an essential purchase if you love the music of bands such as GENESIS, YES, KANSAS, PINK FLOYD and RUSH. Not to be missed!

Obviously influenced by SOFT MACHINE and Frank ZAPPA, this original and very fine Progressive rock outfit displays complex melodies and polished arrangements. It offers very elaborated themes full of breaks in rhythms and following surprising paths. The music develops by the association, superposition, blendings of the themes (More than four-hundred and fifty on the second album !), original sound combinations (Organ or bass as solo instruments, trumpet, saxophone, flute, drums, vocals...) and complex, over-built themes reminding of the best Progressive rock. The eponymous album has been recorded in 1972, followed by the great "The World Of Genius Hans" twelve months later. Both Musea reissues come with an extensive booklet with biography, photo and bonus tracks from MOVING, the following project from 1980.
Naikaku/Shell ....import CD $18.99

NAIKAKU is a Japanese Progressive rock duet founded in 1998 around bass-player Satoshi KOBAYASHI and flautist Kazumi SUZUKI. In other words, the listener may expect much flute and bass! Not only this, since two men contribute quite fully to their music: one on drums & percussion and one on guitar. The instrumentation of the second opus "Shell" is completed with two other musicians, respectively a guitarist and a keyboards player. The result is to say the least breathtaking, and it can evoke the improbable encounter of an overvitaminated KING CRIMSON and a JETHRO TULL under acid, everything being sprinkled with jazz-rock fusion and a touch of heavy-metal. Jointly released by the Musea and Poseidon labels, this opus will certainly delight the quality instrumental Progressive rock lovers.
Narrow Pass/A Room Of Fairy Queens ....import CD $18.99

This Italian band is a project by Mauro Montobbio, a guitarist/keybpardist. Narrow Pass existed briefly in the eighties, had disappeared, and is back with a tremendous first album. Several musicians contribute to "A Room Of Fairy Queens," on drums and bass, but also on vocals (Valeria Caucino and Alessandro Corvaglia, the second one being the singer from LA MASCHERA DI CERA) and flute/sax/bagpipes (Edmondo Romano). Valeria and Edmondo were both part of the only album released by ERIS PLUVIA, a masterpiece from the nineties. And Narrow Pass sometimes recalls ERIS PLUVIA: an exquisite sensibility, pure and refined melodies, airy flute parts, a common CAMEL influence. But NARROW PASS also reveals some PINK FLOYD hints, and lyrical guitar solis not unlike MARILLION's first era. Don't miss this masterpiece, the second album is on its way!

Brand new album for this 30 years old American band! Musea had released the band's first albums, but more than ten years had passed since. It was worth wait! This new concept album is a unique combination of good old progressive music, with hints of ELP, and much more GENESIS influence ('The Lamb,' 'Wind and Wuthering') than before. North Star succeeded in capturing the great band's essence and identity, as far as rythms, keyboards and vocals are concerned Joe Newman's voice is a clone of Gabriel's! But they also reveal power and harmonies that bring them near IQ ('Subterranea' era), especially for the keyboards work.
Oaksenham/Conquest of the Pacific ....import CD $18.99

OAKSENHAM is a new band from Armenia, including the "classical" rock line-up, plus one violin and one flute players. Guest musicians appear on this album, on harp, cello, oboe, horns and clarinet! Oaksenham plays an instrumental "chamber rock" music, mixing classical influences (Bach, Vivaldi...) with progressive ones. The album includes covers of Gentle Giant songs and a musical theme of Jethro Tull. You may even think of Gryphon or Greenslade here and there. It's a refreshing, lively, dynamic and airy music, composed and played with a lot of subtlety. Excellent.
Omni/Solo Fue Un Sueno ....import CD $18.99

After a big line-up change, OMNI took five years to issue its third album, "Solo Fue Un Sueno" (2007). Here's a music to be sipped at ease, and above all, with great pleasure everytime!
Osiris/Visions From The Past ....import CD $18.99

OSIRIS is probably one of the only, if not the only Arabic Progressive rock band, from Bahrain, a small country of the Persian Gulf. The AL-SADEQI brothers and their friends issued two very good opuses during the Eighties, now reissued by Musea: an eponymous album in 1982 and "Myths And Legends" two years later. On both of them, they perform an elaborated and delicate Progressive rock based on melodies full of variations of instrumental blends and of ethereal developments. Those musicians like multiple combinations between numerous instruments (Guitar, two keyboards, flute, vibraphone & percussions). "Visions from the Past" is a brand new album, a concept about the story of an old man who refuses the 'modern' Bahrein and regrets the time when everyone had an innocent and simple way of living. Using traditional Gulf Arabic poetry (translated in English in the booklet), OSIRIS mixes Arabic rythms and traditional instruments, with a brilliant melodious progressive music in a vein near CAMEL and GENESIS.
Outer Limits/Stromatolite ....import CD $18.99

Here is the progressive musical event of the year : OUTER LIMITS is back! This Japanese band is the most famous and influential of the eighties Japanese progressive trend, as it succeded in developing an original and personal musical style, while many others were just imitating progressive masters. This style is based on fantastic violin parts, symphonic keyboards, contrasting with acid or heavy guitar solis and riffs. The band's line up is the original one, except for a new bass player. After more than fifteen years of silence, it's really moving to hear again this incredible violin player, Takashi Kawaguchi, able to play everything from softness to wildness, lyrical, unquiet, tortured or enthusiast. It's not a "usual" come back : Tsukamoto's pieces are among the best he ever did, inspired, precise and faithful to Outer Limits' style, somewhere between classical music (Bach, Vivaldi...) and progressive (E.L.P, Yes, King Crimson...), without any self indulgence. A fantastic album!

Here is something really special: a truly original progressive rock band. It's the second album by this Finnish combo, and its musicians are all about 25 years old: you'll hear about them! Metaepitome is composed by six complex pieces, two of them are real progressive suites (15/20 minutes long). You hear some remaining influences like Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Rush, Marillion, Dream Theater during this hour of pure progressive music, mixed with some strange psyche/electro sequences, and powerful metal moments. But you certainly hear seventies keyboard sounds, melodious, lively bass parts, nice flute solis, good vocals, and an excellent guitar player, initially influenced by Satriani/Vai, but who developed a personal playing, eclectic and surprising. Brilliant!

Jean-Luc PAYSSAN created with his twin brother Thierry the famous french band MINIMUM VITAL, twenty years ago. They found a new musical language, mixing jazz-rock, classical, progressive and Middle-Ages music. His first solo album is not a solitary effort: VITAL's keyboards and female vocals are present here with Sonia NEDELEC and Thierry PAYSSAN, together with B.Millon's violin. Jean-Luc plays classical and acoustic guitar, but also theorbo, mandola, cittern, mandolin. These 14 musical short pieces are based on magnificent melodies, it's a very pure music, timeless and personal. Unlike most of the guitarist albums, often self-indulgent and repetitive, it's brilliant and humble in the same time, all the pieces are different for atmospheres, arrangements, melodies, revealing eclectism and a huge musical culture: a wonderful music.
Platurno/Nucleos ....CD $18.99

PLATURNO is a young Chilean Progressive rock band, formed around the guitarist-vocalist Felipe RIVERA, the drummer Andres AGUAYO and the keyboards player Sebastian AGUAYO. In order to complete their instrumentation, our three fellows invited a violonist and a bassist to join during the recording sessions of "Nucleos." This first album, released in 2006 by the Musea and Mylodon labels, presents eleven compositions oscillating between Progressive rock and space-rock. The lyrics are in Spanish, but the vocal parts are few: music, both pleasant and captivating, is predominant. Some hypnotic sequences may even remind of a gentle KING CRIMSON.
Quidam/Alone Together ....import CD $18.99

"Alone Together" is a very coherent album packed with masterfully combined, excellent ideas. It's plain to hear that these guys simply enjoy playing together. Apart from the beautiful ballads, like the opening track called "different" with an enchanting melody played on xaphoon (also known as 'pocket sax' or 'bamboo flute') or "we are alone together", an ambient-like composition permeated with emotions, you can expect a hefty amount of rock riffs, breathtaking solos, remarkable work of the rhythm section and that ever so wonderfully sounding flute. There are also a few really incredible surprises... Since "Alone Together" is a concept album, it is worthwhile paying attention to the lyrics and the track titles, which ingeniously form one sentence that describes the content of the record. It talks about different kinds of loneliness and estrangement, about being "alone together" in various sorts of relationships - with a friend, a partner, and the family... Bartek, the vocalist, has certainly found his place in the band and gives a truly heartfelt rendition of the lyrics. His voice conveys a whole range of emotions - melancholy, longing, a lot of passion and even a dash of irony... The new release comes with great artwork - the cover featuring a picture by Michal Florczak superbly matches the content of the album. "Alone Together" is simply perfect and the band is obviously in great shape. They present on this album the best of what they have to offer and, at the same time, what their fans love them for - splendid melodies and lush arrangements. It is an invitation on a wondrous journey into the land of imagination.
Quidam/SuREvival ....import CD $18.99

At last a new album by this excellent progressive band from Poland! Their album's title is a reference to their own situation: their great female singer Emila Derkowska, their bassist and drummer left the band two years ago. But the three remaining members including the 'musical essence' of Quidam, the keyboardist Z.Florek and the guitarist M.Meller- found a new rhythm section and an excellent male vocalist, who sings in a flawless English. With still a full time flute player, Quidam changed a bit their style but remain a contemporary progressive rock band, with some more jazzy moods here and there, and atmospheres somewhere between Porcupine Tree, Sylvan, Spock's Beard, with great guitar solis, melodious pieces longer than before: excellent album!
Round House/3-D ....import CD $18.99

Round House has first existed from 1976 to 1979. They split after having released only a couple of studio albums. Twenty years later Round House has re-formed. They produced a live album in 2003, and they're back with a brand new studio album. Round House is a trio (guitars/bass/keyboards), and their instrumental music can be brought near Kenso, Brand X, Side Steps: a jazz-fusion with progressive flavours. The intense, nostalgic atmospheres of some songs, with their lyrical guitar parts and symphonic keyboards, are not far from CAMEL. It's a lively, very melodious music, played by three real virtuosos, dynamic and suggestive.
Yochk'o Seffer/My Old Roots ....import CD $18.99

This legendary musician has achieved a sucessful musical career since the Magma days, with ZAO, NEFFESH MUSIC, etc. His unique musical style is a sort of ethnic jazz, influenced by Hungarian music and American music (Coltrane), among others. "My old roots" is a collection of pieces from 1976 and 1980, created with Neffesh Music and for "Chromophonie." Some pieces were never released on CD, and one is an unreleased track, recorded in 2005 with violin player Lajos Horvath. It's an excellent introduction to Seffer's lively, inventive and colourful music. Just brilliant!
Shades of Dawn/From Dusk Till Dawn ....import CD $18.99

This German band from Dusseldorf released an album in 1998, "The Dawn Of Time," and "From Dusk Till Dawn" is made of unreleased 1994 demo tapes, carefully reworked and restored in 2003 with some overdubs and bonus tracks. The result is an excellent album of symphonic/neo progressive. SHADES OF DAWN was then influenced by ELOY, PINK FLOYD, CAMEL, GENESIS (among others), and also MARILLION for some keyboard solis. It's very melodious, nice lyrical guitar solis, well played, with a lot of dynamic and lively instrumental sequences and "airy atmospheres." Waiting for the next album, "Graffity's Rainbow," youll certainly enjoy this nice piece of symphonic prog!
Soft Machine/Legacy Live In Zaandam ....import CD $18.99

SOFT MACHINE is a legend of Rock music, a band who included Robert Wyatt, Kevin Ayers, Andy Summers (from POLICE), Hugh Hopper, David Allen, Elton Dean, among others, and even, briefly, Jimi Hendrix. Since its creation in 1966, this band created progressive Rock, led the Canterbury trend, influenced generations of musicians. It sometimes offers us tours and Live albums, like this one, recorded in May 2005 in Holland. The line-up is Elton Dean (sax, piano), John Etheridge (guitar), Hugh Hopper (bass), and John Marshall (drums), all of them having played with Soft Machine in the seventies. Six splendid instumental tracks, for an intense and sincere jazz fusion: an event!
Solar Project/Chromagnitude ....import CD $18.99

SOLAR PROJECT is, with fellow countrymen RPWL, one of the best PINK FLOYD-influenced bands of today. SOLAR PROJECT has released its seventh album "Chromagnitude." This conceptual piece-of-work interprets the psychological power of colors, creating a journey into yourself in search for inner peace. Complex art-rock, sometimes heavy, sometimes under floydian influence, this perfectly describes the musical spectrum of that current production. The internationally known artwork magicians of BlackFlame accounted again for the cover design for the CD. It includes a multimedia track (A short band presentation) for use with Macintosh and Windows computers.
Spin XXI/Contraponto ....import CD $18.99

SPIN XXI is a Brazilian Progressive rock band born in the Seventies. Its debut album is only released today in 2006. Released by both Musea and Rock Symphony labels, "Contraponto" presents five long tracks in the great tradition of the South-American symphonic school, reaching about 45 minutes of music. The musicians show a true mastery and a playing level that is quite impressive, as they surf from one complex passage to another with disarming facility. You may think of YES listening to their sound and the composing, even if the voluble singing of the dramatic Figueiredo KAKAO can't make you forget that you're listening to an original work. Some other borrowings are from GENESIS, jazz-rock or heavy-metal.
Tarkus/Ao Vivo Em Niteroi ....import CD $18.99

TARKUS is probably the most gifted and inspired symphonic rock band to happen in Brazil since SAGRADO no less! After two albums released in 2000 and 2006, here is a live album co-released by Rock Symphony and Musea. It was recorded in 2005 in Teatro municipal de Niteroi. With two keyboard players (including mini-moog), TARKUS' sound is clearly symphonic, and listening to their lively music you'll think of YES, GENESIS, CAMEL. Let's also mention lyrical and powerful female vocals (Portuguese singing), excellent guitar parts: TARKUS' music is actually magnified by live conditions.
Tarkus/A Gaze Between The Past And The Future ....import CD $18.99

This brazilian band was created in 2000, and this first album was recorded in 2002. "Tarkus" name may sound like a reference to E.L.P., but these six pieces reveal a personal music, although certainly keeping the seventies flame alive. The flute player offers us sequences near CAMEL or JETHRO TULL, and other influences are to be found in GENESIS (especially the guitar parts) or P.F.M and BANCO. But TARKUS musical compositions also offer heavy moments, together with a general symphonic inspiration. "A gaze between the past and the future" is made of six pieces, two of them including covers (of NEXUS and DEVIL DOLL). It's a brilliant symphonic rock, with strong melodies and enthusiasm!
Tempano:Cap:Taproban/The Seven Samourai ....import CD $18.99

Due to the great demand, Colossus (The Finnish Progressive Music Association) and Musea proudly present their new progressive rock epic, succeeding to Kalevala, The Spaghetti Epic, the Colossus Of Rhodes...: THE SEVEN SAMURAI! The intention is to publish a progressive rock concept album inspired by the famous film by Akira Kurosawa called "The 7 Samurais" (1954). The story has been divided in 3 chapters same as the number of bands participating, each band has chosen one chapter and has made a suite inspired by it. TEMPANO (Venezuela), CAP and TAPROBAN (Italy). The total length of each suite is around 25 minutes. The sound remains faithful to 70's progressive music: original 70's keyboards (Hammond, Moog, Mellotron, Fender Rhodes, Grand Piano etc.) are preferred, and the bands avoid loops, drum machines or other 80's - 90's digital sounds. Tempano, CAP and TAPROBAN have composed three magnificent progressive suites, reminding all the seventies masters, like Genesis and Jethro Tull for Tempano, Banco or King Crimson for CAP, ELP for Taproban, among many other influences. But each piece is also faithful to each bands style and personality.
Laurent Thibault/Mais On Ne Peut Pas Rever Tout Le Temps ....import CD $18.99

First MAGMA's bassist, famous producer and founder of the Theleme label, Laurent THIBAULT released one superb album, with the help of well-known musicians. Amongst them, one can find Francis MOZE (MAGMA), David ROSE, Amanda PARSONS, Lisa BOIS, etc. Originally recorded in 1979 and today reissued by the Musea label, "Mais On Ne Peut Pas Rever Tout Le Temps" displays and aerial, light and hyper melodious music. Successively serene, distressing, dreamy and nightmarish, this very original Progressive rock music is tailor-made for fans of beauty and sophisticated music.

THIRTEEN OF EVERYTHING is the name of a Texas quartet of progressive rock, created at the end of the nineties. After a first demo CD was welcomed particularly well by critics, "Welcome, Humans" finally sees the light of day on the Musea label. Let us say that it is undoubtedly one of the best achievements of the year 2005! The group can be classified in the category of the ECHOLYN or another IZZ, in addition to the influence of the masters of the seventies (GENESIS especially). The thirteen tracks are marked by a very American ease of melody, a modern and powerful sound, as well as epic lyricism and virtuosity. Note that seven of the tracks form an epic 26-minute continuation. Altogether, an hour and a quarter of top grade symphonic progressive rock with liberal use of Chapman Stick. Absolutely essential!
Univeria Zekt/The Unnamables ....import CD $18.99

During the "1001 Degrés Centigrades" period, MAGMA was stuggling to find a wider audience. This was mainly due to the fact that the French band played such an innovative music and used its own language known under the name Kobaian. So, drummer extraordinaire Christian VANDER and his teammates decided to hide behind a different name and write texts in English. Not too long in fact, as the second side of the only opus recorded have been designed to lead the listener to discover musical landscapes not so far away from Zeuhl. "Undia" even sees the comeback of Kobaian. Unfortunately, the UNIVERIA ZEKT exeperience didn't last long, and MAGMA went back to its own concept shortly after with much success. That's why "The Unnamables" (1971) is often regarded as a mythical album! As every Musea reissue, the CD version includes biography, rare photographs, etc.
Rick Van Der Linden/An Ekseptional Trace ....import DVD-NTSC (region 0) $27.99

In the late Sixties, EKSEPTION and Rick Van Der LINDEN were among the first musicians to create a blend of musical styles that went from classical music to pop and jazz. Extremely popular thanks to its instrumental covers of Ludwig Van BEETHOVEN ("The Fifth") and Aram KHATSATURJAN ("Sabre Dance"), the Dutch line-up was replaced by TRACE in the year 1974. This new band followed in the path taken by EKSEPTION, becoming thus a Progressive rock power-trio led by the keyboards of its virtuoso leader. A serious counterpart to EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER! "An Ekseptional Trace" includes a previously unreleased live recording of TRACE in 1977, with Ian MOSLEY, future co-founder of MARILLION on drums. EKSEPTION is also honored there with a stage performance of the band's revival in 2003. Two historical documents that are a tribute to the unique talent of Rick Van Der LINDEN, who recently passed away.

Musea and Colossus present one more epic concept album, after the success of KALEVALA and THE SPAGHETTI EPIC. It's based on one of the seven wonders of the world: The Colossus of Rhodes, and more precisely the 'peplum' movie by Sergio Leone about it. LEVIATHAN, GREENWALL, SINKADUS, MAD CRAYON, VELVET, DESPERADOS, REVELATION offer brilliant progressive epic pieces, enhanced by a splendid booklet and production. Once again Colossus asked the musicians to respect the seventies' spirit and sound (mellotron, analogic keyboards...). The result is a bunch of brilliant progressive timeless music! A concept album, seven bands, a seventies sound and spirit.

Homer, with the Odyssey, has written one of the most extraordinary stories ever invented. This triple concept album produced by Musea is composed of nine symphonic suites, each one around 25 minutes, by the most innovative and talented international bunch of musicians that you can imagine: NATHAN MAHL, NEXUS, GLASS HAMMER, XII ALFONSO, SIMON SAYS, C.A.P., TEMPANO, MINIMUM VITAL, and AETHER. They composed their piece, instrumental or sung, inspired by a part of the odyssey, and by the masters of progressive music. The ghosts of YES, KING CRIMSON, PINK FLOYD and GENESIS, among others, were invited to the feast, to offer a fantastic album, in which each band offered the best: nearly four hours of wonderful symphonic music!
Various Artists/Spaghetti Epic 2 - The Good The Bad And The Ugly ....import CD $18.99

Colossus and Musea are really proud to present one more collective concept album, inspired by Sergio Leone's famous western The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." Like the preceding Colossus/Musea collaborations since "Kalevala," these 75 minutes of fine symphonic rock are offered with a luxury booklet about the story, the movie, the lyrics, and the bands. RANDONE (for 'the good'), LA VOCE DELL VENTO ('the bad') and TILION ('the ugly'), composed and played three 25' symphonic suites, and they remained faithful to the seventies symphonic spirit, this time the Italian trend (Museo Rosenbach, PFM, Le Orme, Banco...). 70's keyboards are preferred (mini-moog, mellotron...), and, by the way, keyboards are dominant in these three pieces. All tracks are brilliant and diverse, with a special mention to the duo Guy Manning/Andy Tillison ("La voce dell vento", ex- PO90 degrees, Tillison being well known in the prog world for leading The Tangent), one more time astounding. This album is dedicated to recently deceased Vesa Lattunen, leader of the finnish band HAIKARA, who should have done the opening track.
Weidorje/Weidorje ....import CD $18.99

WEIDORJE is ex-MAGMA bassist Bernard PAGANOTTI's legendary band. The musician creates a strong and hypnotic music with a Zeuhl influence based on his rumbling bass, over which flies Michel ETTORI's impressive guitar. Patrick GAUTHIER's keyboards (HELDON, VOLKOR...), brothers Yvon & Alain GUILLARD's saxophone and Bernard's grunting vocals (!) give the music an oppressive touch, hardly softer than in MAGMA. Here's a band that managed to reach its master's level, in both technical quality and inspiration. The Musea reissue of the self-titled album (recorded back in 1978) includes two bonus tracks recorded live in Rombas (Eastern France) by Jean-Pascal BOFFO. WEIDORJE s certainly the best of all Zeuhl offsprings!
Yole/Lead Us Away ....import CD $18.99

This new french band uses the usual rock instruments, plus keyboards, sitar, flute, tablas, etc. YOLE has created a sort of world-progressive music, influenced, on one hand by the progressive masters of the seventies GENESIS, CAMEL, FOCUS, and on the other hand by Indian/world music. These eleven pieces (English sung) reveal beautiful, dreamlike atmospheres, not unlike the French band PULSAR, with sound effects, female and male backing vocals. It's a suggestive music, full of mystery and melancholy, that captures the seventies' musical spirit, especially through lively and melodious flute parts.
Zao/Akhenaton ....import CD $18.99

This album from ZAO is available again right now after having been out of stock during some years. Created in 1973 by two former MAGMA musicians, Yochk'o SEFFER (Saxophone) and François "FATON" CAHEN (Keyboards), ZAO displays a music both intriguing and complex. The band offers an original mixture between Progressive rock, jazz, traditional Magyar influences and modern classical composers (BARTOK, STRAVINSKI...). Sophisticated meters are punctuated by wind instruments and piano, putting the stress on strange-sounding themes.
Zao/In Tokyo ....import CD $18.99

ZAO in Tokyo is a collection of 8 tracks recorded live during the Japanese tour of the band two years ago. Let's recall ZAO is 35 years old, created by Faton Cahen and Yoch'ko Seffer after their departure from MAGMA. So here is the return of the great ZAO, with Faton Cahen and Yoch'ko Seffer together, with Gerard Prevost and Francois Causse on bass and drums, with Cynthia St-Ville on vocals, and the violin virtuoso Akihisa Tsuboy (KBB) as guest. "ZAO IN TOKYO" is, at last, the live album that the band deserved, with a unique mix of jazz, improvised sequences and contemporary music.
