Steve Hackett has earned the reputation of being one of Britain's finest composers and guitarists. Peter Gabriel invited him to join Genesis in 1970 and his involvement led to 8 albums. His complex and distinctive playing contributed heavily to their early success, developing an elegance and sophistication which have become his trademark and he has since achieved consistent solo success internationally. Over that time Steve has discovered an equal talent for composing for the classical guitar. This is an artist who has retained his integrity and yet has enjoyed sales in the millions worldwide through his various band and solo projects, who delivers not only as a brilliant rock guitarist and songwriter but as a sensitive composer in the classical vein. As a musician, it is his undertaking of the instrument as a whole, be it acoustic, electric or digital; as a craftsman, it is the attention to detail within his music that has inspired so many others; as an individual, it is music alone that is his motivation and always will be.
Steve has now entered the realm of the independent artist with the development of his own label, Camino Records. Initially he has released a number of his back catalog items (many reamstered with bonus tracks!), but the near future will see new albums coming out such as The Tokyo Tapes, live performances on both CD and video of Steve's recent tour of Japan with John Wetton, Ian McDonald, Chester Thompson and Julian Colbeck. Also Camino Records is making available the artwork of Kim Poor! Also check out our Genesis sheet music and software below.
Tony Banks/Seven: A Suite for Orchestra ....import CD $12.99
'Seven: A Suite for Orchestra' is Tony Banks' long-awaited classical album, recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Mike Dixon, released on the Naxos label. Famous for his role as keyboard player in the progressive rock band Genesis, Tony Banks has always been fascinated by the idea of writing orchestral music. Five of the seven pieces in this orchestral suite were written specifically for the Seven project; the remaining two were older pieces. Throughout the seven movements Banks creates intense orchestral sound pictures. The calm serenity which characterizes the main themes of the separate movements is often contrasted with uncomfortable stormy turbulence, the overall result being a scenic overview of orchestral colours and timbres.
Simon Collins/U-Catastrophe ....CD $11.99
On his 2008 international debut on Razor & Tie Records, U-CATASTROPHE, Simon Collins, the son of Genesis superstar Phil Collins, offers up a collection of confident and catchy tunes in the same emotive pop/rock vein as his renowned father. Like his dad, Collins is both a singer and drummer, and he reveals both his vocal and rhythmic chops on the accessible, techno-tinged tracks "Unconditional" and "Powerless." Last summer The Artist Shop was able to offer a free download of Simon Collins performing the Genesis song Keep It Dark. Hundreds of you took advantage of that. Now Simon is back with a brand new full album release U-Catastrophe. Anyone who enjoyed his performance of Keep It Dark will find MUCH to like about U-Catastrophe, especially Steve Hackett's guitar work on 'Fast Forward the Future' and the savage drum duel between Simon and father Phil Collins on The Big Bang!

It is Steve's acoustic trio, consisting of himself with his brother, John Hackett, on flute and Roger King on keyboards. This 104 minute show was recorded at Budapest's Petofi Hall on 26th January 2002 and was mixed in 5.1 surround format (DVD only) in Steve Hacketts own MAP studio! The setlist offers a variety of Steve's favourite acoustic material and even one or two new and unreleased pieces! Bonus footage - "A Weekend In Budapest", a documentary style feature which includes fascinating behind the scenes footage including interviews with all three musicians and rehearsal excerpts (DVD only).
Steve Hackett/Live Archive 83 ....import CD $20.99
Take a step back to 1983 when Hackett goes on the road without electronics for the first time and presents the original 'unplugged' concert. Featuring Steve on guitar and John Hackett on flute, this was the very first Steve Hackett acoustic tour, and the prototype setlist includes many tunes which were to become acoustic show favourites in following years. Live rarities include 'Concert For Munich' & 'A Cradle Of Swans.' Also performed is 'The Water Wheel' - a study for a piece which has not yet emerged. The CD largely consists of an incomplete bootleg recording of the show on 4th November 1983 at Edinburghs Queens Hall. The 'missing' pieces are reinstated in the form of recordings from the show later that month at Swansea University. Every care has been taken in transferring the audio, however the original tapes were of dubious origin and some allowance may have to be made for an occasional trace of distortion and hiss. The magic here is in the spirit of the performances. Track List: Calmaria, Hands Of The Priestess, Jacuzzi, The Barren Land, Tales Of The Riverbank, Second Chance, Oriental Improvisation, Petropolis, Kim, The Water Wheel, Concert For Munich, The Journey, Ace Of Wands, A Cradle Of Swans, Jazz On A Summer's Night, Horizons, Time Lapse At Milton Keynes, Bay Of Kings.

Sound Formats: include DTS Surround Sound, Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound and Dolby Digital Stereo.
Steve Hackett/Please Don't Touch (remastered) ....CD $13.99
This second solo album consolidates Hackett's unique musical signature. Guests include Randy Crawford, Richie Havens, Steve Walsh and Chester Thompson. "I wanted to get the most diverse and eclectic tracks that I could together on one album; a style mix between a European, structured approach to rock and a spartan Black American sound." Bonus tracks include an alternate version of Narnia with vocalist John Perry, recorded when Steve Walsh's label refused to allow him to appear on the single. An enlightened approach to artistic endeavours! A different cut of the original version with Mr. Walsh also appears. We also have a live recording of Land of a Thousand Autumns / Please Don't Touch from Steve's 1979 concert at London's Drury Lane Theatre.

Steve Hackett/Tribute ....import CD $24.99
NEW Steve Hackett Album! 'Tribute' is a continuing expression of Steve's fascination with the classical guitar and a homage to the composers and performers who have inspired him, in particular Andres Segovia. Of 'The Fountain Suite' Hackett comments... "What can be said about Andres Segovia that hasnt been said already? Lets just say on the nylon guitar his playing informs my every note! I wrote this as a tribute to his eternal influence".
Steve Hackett/Voyage of Acolyte (remastered) ....CD $13.99

Bonus tracks are a previously unreleased live version of Ace Of Wands recorded at the Drury Lane Theatre 1979 with Steve's original live band and the long lost full 17 minute version of Shadow of the Hierophant which showcases Phil Collins' astounding drumming. Steve Hackett/Wild Orchids ....CD $16.99
After 2003's acclaimed rock album, To Watch The Storms, and its classical successor, Metamorpheus, from 2005 Steve now presents Wild Orchids, an album that is in many ways a synthesis of its predecessors. Steve manages to surpass even the diversity of style and mood found on Storms and at the same time presents an even more homogenous album. "Each album is an adventure. A search for a place without boundaries where cultures collide in order to influence one another..." The album integrates a classical element on a much grander scale than ever before. But is it still rock? As Steve says, "Rock gets 'bigger' when you add an orchestra" and this is exactly what he did! In adition to Roger King, John Hackett, Rob Townsend, Gary O'Toole and others who previously contributed to Storms, Steve also utilized his Underworld Orchestra, with whom he recorded Metamorpheus. "The Orchid is famous as a cultivated flower, but when grown in the wild the perfume seems stronger and sweeter..." The standard edition is packaged in a jewelcase and has a 12 page colour booklet. The special edition features: 4 extra tracks (Transylvanian Express, Blue Child, Cedars of Lebanon and Until the Last Butterfly), 16 page colour booklet and the CD jewelcase is packaged in a card slipcase.
