Steve Hackett has earned the reputation of being one of Britain's finest composers and guitarists. Peter Gabriel invited him to join Genesis in 1970 and his involvement led to 8 albums. His complex and distinctive playing contributed heavily to their early success, developing an elegance and sophistication which have become his trademark and he has since achieved consistent solo success internationally. Over that time Steve has discovered an equal talent for composing for the classical guitar. This is an artist who has retained his integrity and yet has enjoyed sales in the millions worldwide through his various band and solo projects, who delivers not only as a brilliant rock guitarist and songwriter but as a sensitive composer in the classical vein. As a musician, it is his undertaking of the instrument as a whole, be it acoustic, electric or digital; as a craftsman, it is the attention to detail within his music that has inspired so many others; as an individual, it is music alone that is his motivation and always will be.
Steve has now entered the realm of the independent artist with the development of his own label, Camino Records. Initially he has released a number of his back catalog items (many reamstered with bonus tracks!), but the near future will see new albums coming out such as The Tokyo Tapes, live performances on both CD and video of Steve's recent tour of Japan with John Wetton, Ian McDonald, Chester Thompson and Julian Colbeck. Bonus tracks are the recording of 'Tales of the Riverbank' which originally appeared as the B-side to 'Hope I Don't Wake,' the original version of 'Second Chance,' commissioned for the TV series of the same name, and a live version of 'The Air-Conditioned Nightmare' recorded at 1981's Reading Festival with Steve's then touring band of Ian Mosley, John Hackett, Nick Magnus and Chas Cronk. Cured was a UK Top 20 album which saw Hackett taking a much more studio based pop approach and abandoning the group feel for a high tech sound, though still working with regular collaborator Nick Magnus. The album features the first recording of the (then) revolutionary Linndrum.

This instrumental album is a new collaboration between John Hackett on flute and guitar and Sheffield-based experimental musician Moodi Drury. Take a step back to 1983 when Hackett goes on the road without electronics for the first time and presents the original 'unplugged' concert. Featuring Steve on guitar and John Hackett on flute, this was the very first Steve Hackett acoustic tour, and the prototype setlist includes many tunes which were to become acoustic show favourites in following years. Live rarities include 'Concert For Munich' & 'A Cradle Of Swans.' Also performed is 'The Water Wheel' - a study for a piece which has not yet emerged. The CD largely consists of an incomplete bootleg recording of the show on 4th November 1983 at Edinburgh’s Queens Hall. The 'missing' pieces are reinstated in the form of recordings from the show later that month at Swansea University. Every care has been taken in transferring the audio, however the original tapes were of dubious origin and some allowance may have to be made for an occasional trace of distortion and hiss. The magic here is in the spirit of the performances. Now for something completely different from John Hackett. We're more familiar with John's flute recordings in classical mode but here's John Hackett the progressive rocker and this is one that will please many. Brother Steve adds some typically haunting guitar and harmonica, Nick Magnus contributes drums and keyboards and ReGenesis frontman Tony Patterson vocals a few tracks, giving them a real vintage Gabriel/Genesis feel. Not a bad team to call on. The haunting 'DNA' and the punchy 'Whispers' are tracks that will become favourites to those who purchase it. Highly recommended.
